Chill tracks you can't get enough of...

Recommended Posts

I've had a few on steady rotation in the last little while, thought I might share (and hope to hear your recommendations as well).

Kuba - The Road To Find Out

Cell - White Call

Goasia - Pray For Rain

Pitch Black - 1000 Mile Drift

Younger Brother - Elephant Machine

Eat Static - UFO Over Trenchtown

Morphem - Love Is An Ocean

Jaia - Desert Walk

Most of these are some form of psydub and many have some vocal elements... something about this combination (when it's done right) really gets to me... I am finding that I like downtempo that jumps out in some way--perhaps a reaction to all the common psychedelic chill on the market these days.

So what are yours? Any era, any time... but let's hear what you are actively listening to these days, not just "all-time classics" :)

Carbon Based Lifeforms - World Of Sleepers

Pushmipulyu - Wake You   (seriously, this is a beautiful track, great beat with an awesome atmosphere!)

X-Dream - Related Vortex

I keep replaying these 3 all the time, can't get enough of them lately.

Ok theyre not exactly chillout, more like ambient/psybient but they make me relaxed and excited at the same time :)

well I must confess I'm not really into the new ambient... or perhaps I've just listened the wrong stuff who knows :)

anyways, I'm sure these sure work for any ambient/chill fan:

global communication - delta phase

william orbit - water from a vine leaf

william orbit - spiral (has vocals but works...)

children of the bong - ionospheric state

Recently I have been listening to heaps of FAX records artists like PETE NAMLOOK, WOLFRAM SPYRA, DR. ATMO, DEEP SPACE NETWORK, HIGHER INTELLIGENCE AGENCY, ATOM HEART, MOVE D... It is really one of the best ambient labels ever, such sophisticated stuff, with lots of classical influences and psychedelia. Also RECYCLE OR DIE label with their artists : STEVIE B ZET, RALF HILDENBEUTEL, A.C. BOUSTEN, BAKED BEANS, SOLITAIRE...I have also been playing a lot of PLASTIKMAN ambient stuff. And of course, I still can't get enough of the pioneers of ambient like : BRIAN ENO, KLAUS SCHULZE, STEVE ROACH, ROBERT RICH, BRIAN LUSTMORD....There is really so much to ambient than just downtempo/psybient, so many great artists and labels.

Dreamfish - Hymn

Binah - Crescent Suns

Etnica- Baraka

Solar Fields- Time slide

Senzar & June Rashava- Beautiful you

Speedy J- Lanzarote

Western Rebel Alliance- Slewake

As far as albums are concerned, any given tracks off either From Within 1 or From Within 2. I am not really a Namlook expert here, but right after the first Dreamfish album come these two as his finest collabs ever. Nothing I've ever heard since quite matches the magic Richie Hawtin and Peter Kuhlmann pulled off on those two albums.

I don't know that much chillout or ambient (or even what the difference is) allthough i like the music so far what i have heard..

A track i really like is Ten madison-sonne und meer

It's like chillout with acoustic guitars in it, it's really beautiful IMO.

if you like acoustic elements in your chill (well done) then try Pan Electric - Conscious Pilot, I love this album :) It's Matt Coldrick from the Green Nuns Of The Revolution :D
