what a masterful track.... it takes some getting used to the beat since it's not the typical hallucinogen beat which we know and love, but what a sensation this track sets off. It just goes rrrrrRRRRIIIIGHT up in my spine and flashes in my brain!

I'm bubblin' and tweakin' already!

The last minute reminds me of the epilogue music from Half-life :)

i think it already happened ?? no??? and still they used psytrance for a movie like the matrix so...

I think you can't get to any higher level of commercialism...

still I really don't mind...

I've had my period of annoying me to the commercial evolution of goa...

why bother about something you can't do about ??? ;)

Umm, yes, you are right...it did reach very commerical state but look at it from this perspective. It is year 2005, 11 years after Goa Trance developed into style we know and adore. At that stage, all these artists were your age or older and they were producing something that was enitrely NEW and FRESH for that time. In the era of folded and arranged samples ( 89-93 ) this specific, artistic genre of making trance state appeared and everyone were gobsmacked, amazed. They heard new stuff that sounded.....PSYCHEDELIC, therefore psychedelic trance music entered electronic culture and in no time started to dominate just because of its beauty and elegance...

11 years after, those same producers aren't even producing that music or moved onto something else, and you can't blame them Buddha, they are here for ages and their progression seems logical to them, but not to you, cause you are still young and started doing this recently so, to you, no matter how you respect and vorship this genre you are still stuck in that time, which I was until 2 years ago...Then I realised that everything is moving very fast, and that global progressive regression happend. And that is to develop sounds and effects to the highest levels where the content was secondary. Now, that is horrible thing our dear artists did to us, but we cannot suffer from it and not enjoy in new, cute stuff that has been released, not that they aren't there...And you just have to dig and find something that can suit you...That is what I am doing these days, I was also furious of goa dying but what a heck, there is so many old releases that are still worth digging and I am fdoing my best in collecting as much oldies as possible.

All I am saying, get over it , try to tune your brain on some juicy psychedelia, there is heaps of quality, melodic psychedelia, trust me, just get over that little prejudice and enjoy more in music...That is all...

Peace Fillipe... :)

I'm new here, but kinda of wanted to chime in anyhow...

It is kind of a let down when genres of music and culture that were underground end up creeping into the mainstream, but with almost everything these days, it seems inevitable that it will happen at some point.

I was pretty surprised at the line up for thsi video game soundtrack, but at the same time, I know that guys like Simon Posford and Merv & Joie from Eat Static have a tough time making money these days. It is really hard to make a decent living while not being in the mainstream and having a music label that doesn't get seen or heard by many people. So on some level it is cool that they being allowed to make the music they like, which hopfully getting a few bucks for and quite possibly getting some new fans.

I think these guys have to walk a pretty thin line between staying true the underground that has supported them over the years, and also making enough money to keep on making the music we all love.

Trust me - I hate it just as much, if not more, when an artist I love "sells out" - but if they can pick the right people and companies to work with it, I can usually jive with it.

Also in the case of a video game soundtrack like this they are lucky to get such a gig. A video game company could just as easily gone with a bunch of no name hacks to crank out a few cheesy tunes for pennies and it wouldn't affect the sales of the game one bit. So for them to pull together so many good musicians and pey em for some good new tunes, is not only a testament to how far some of these guys have come, but the fact that someone at Sony has a good ear.

Wait, this is from the actual Playstation 2 Gran Turismo game soundtrack???!!! Is this confirmed and official, I mean why else would they call it that? I'm saying that because I think thats so cool that they have Hallucinogen on Gran Turismo 4, such a known, great racing franchise, so basically by buying this compilation we are buying the soundtrack to the game? Thats where I get a little confused, like I'm surprised that psytrance is in a game, but I think their was some psytrance in Extreme G 3 or one of those futuristic racers on the Playstation or N64 but I'm not sure. I just find it really cool because I used to play racing games and its so boring after a while when you just have the typical techno and trance. Really good psytrance seems to be exactly appropriate for fast, cool, (futuristic especially) racing games need.

From what I can tell, there are two seperate "soundtracks" for Gran Turismo 4 - one is the standard, and one is the "kicks" version. They are sold as seperate CD's from the game itself. I can only assume the music is also in the game, but I am not 100% sure - but it seems logical that this would be the case.

It does seem like a good meeting of music and game.

On my roomies Xbox, we uploaded our own soundtrack (mainly psytrance and breaks) to play with the race/crash game "Burnout 3". I do like that feature of the Xbox.

Yes..

X-Dream! ... Hallucinogen! (!) Koxbox!!

Wow! I mean, WOW! I wonder who finally realized that psytrance can really enhance certain games. This could be so damn smart and appropriate to put in other games, with psytrance depending on the themes, like DEVIL MAY CRY 3 for example, and they missed their chance with psytrance but I heard the soundtrack is much better than the overall shitty DMC2 at least. Great dark psytrance in DMC3 or DMC4 would just be nuts!

I have to admit however, the artists on this comp alone are better than the actuality; anticipation of their songs! but the songs are still cool nonetheless, just nothing excellent or amazing, but its probably lots of fun and great for a racing game. The songs overall don't seem great to me so far, but its one heck of a comp for what it is, and for a soundtrack I'm still surprised. Most racng soundtracks are fucking techno, dance, rock crap. Like the music in Burnout 3, a rather great racing game, had rock, pop, just more mellow music that just plain sucked. Too bad they didn't have a good soundtrack like the one here.

But seriously, is this a first to you guys? Psytrance in games? This is the coolest artist line-up I've EVER SEEN for a video game to date, even if not all the songs are great, several seem good; really cool. Most people who play GT don't even know what the hell psytrance is!

The Hallucinogen track sounds decent or pretty good, but nothing great or all THAT good to me. After all these years its kind of curious as to why Hallucinogen would appear on a video game soundtrack, ya know? Like what about a third main album??? The X-Dream track one is so-so, probably more fun to play a game to than actually pay much attention to, cause its more technoish than anything, or tech-trance. But their (X-Dreams) name alone grabs my attention because of the great work they have done years ago.

I wonder if this soundtrack is in the recently released US version of the game. Regardless, they (this soundtrack) should be available to listen to while you're racing for all versions. It should really enhance the music experience for gamers, especially on those detailed night tracks. Overall, this seems like its really good for a soundtrack during the actual racing game, but to me, if I wasn't looking at it for what its made for, I wouldn't be AS excited or interested, but I'd still be interested... :D.

And to AmithabaBuddha, Seraph, and the others who seem on the same page with certain things, I don't sound like I have a problem with psytrance in a game like GT4 because I'd rather see decent or perferably good psytrance made for quality game (s) than copies, shitty psytrance, minimal, more generic full on, a fucking Britney Spears Remix, etc... because that gives psytrance a bad name and introduces psytrance to people unaware at how amazing this foundation and history really is. I don't see this being effected enough to hurt it in a video game like GT4. So for me its interesting because I used to play games too and I thought, why not incorporate the best music in some of the best games? Same thing has gone for movies too, but when I say that I think of quality psytrance, not the crap thats takiing over the scene and replacing the truly and forever still ahead-of-its-time stuff. I agree 100% that if you're going to make money, at least don't change your style to something everyone else is doing. So when we see those old goatrance artists making Full On its just fucking stupid because we're aware at how great they USED to be, but thats another story for another time. The stuff for GT4 doesn't effect the scene like the crap thats being played in most clubs does, especially when its associated to psytrance or Goatrance. I think you see what I mean. :)

There are descent tracks in this comp! its a shame they spare the melody production.. it feels a bit lame compared to other stuffs they have done... probably they dont want people playing the game crashing into a wall or something because of spacing out to the great layers and melodies ;)

Hmm.. Don't worry too much. The average "trough the mouth-breading" GT-player won't know the difference between Hallucinogen and Scooter.

I kinda liked the track, but it was just OK, absolutely nothing spectacular.  <_<

yep. one of my classmates just said about the game, that he will "turn the sondtrack down and bump up some benny benassi, yeah."

Theres one good ol' track in Burnout 3 though. The Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated", it's even better than this new Hallucinogen treck Posted Image

Is this Hallucinogen track a new one or simply previously unreleased? (like anyone know when it was made)?

If it's a new one, it's nice to hear something that is throwback to the style of psy when I got into it (and before). It's a nice track. It seems to lack depth after the first couple spins, but then it's not the whole track, right? Can't get TOO judge-y about it.

I still can't wait for his new stuff. It OUGHT to be better than this track. Look at the Skinny Puppy track they gave us for that crap movie Underworld. First new Skinny Puppy since '96, and was it good? Not really. But the new album was amazing.

Like some of the other ones on the compilation too... They seem well-suited for a driving game. I want to get it! (loved the old GT's)

i didnt like heard it

...yet, but 134 BPM!!!

that is fabulous, like some of the tracks of The Great Unknown.

And if the bass is as moover as in that one, then hall would be giving us such a treat!!! I am so happy by just the idea of it, that i wont listen to the sample... yet

Out of topic, but I am getting latelyn the notion that waht amtters is not the BPM , is more the hits per minute, meaning if you have counterhythms(polyrhythms) inside then those counts as extra hits; like complex drum patterns (funky drummer here)sometimes make for extra dance activity...

Hence slower BPM (that gice space for groovy, interesting rhythms to fit in)and more bongos, drum, claves(wooden solid percussions, whow you say that in english?) etc make for extra dance cues.

Trance?, is defined by the state you search for, not by the 4/4 rhythm or the motorized-like-bass of lately, as some would like to define.

Got carried away...too long without posting.... hi to all, love you.

hallucinogen! Simon insopired and flourishing again...love springs...and spirals... and you.

I am emotional today, all truly felt anyway

Nice to share here

Here we go bumping an age-old topic... BUT!

What do you guys think about this track now? Personally I find it great... very groovy, and very good!

I didn't like it at all.. Booring, nothing special happening in the track, no climax or anything, way too settled..

The whole GT4 kicks compilation is for me one of the biggest disappointments ever. The album is full of "legendary" names of this scene and all that, but none of the tracks doesn't stand out from the other full-on compilations released every week. Funny how 2-minutes samples can sound so promising but when you finally hear the full thing it just sounds...shit.
