  1. Artist: Jacob Title: Enjoy The Ride Label: Spin Twist Records Date: 10/12/18 Tracklist:- 01 Where all Begins 02 Sound City (ft. 4i20) 03 Durs - Serendipity (Jacob remix) 04 Fake Idols (ft. Mandragora) 05 Binomial (ft. Harmonyc) 06 Energy Around You (ft. Juiced) 07 Wobbly Girl 08 Synergy (ft. Basscannon) 09 Music is 10 We Come in Piece (ft. Mandragora) 11 Fly Away (ft. Juiced) 12 Enjoy The Ride You really don't need to look much further than Spin twist Records if you're after fun clubby proggy tunes that will get a crowd jumping. Their last release I listened to was Therapy by Fabio which was perfect for a dark club with friends. Now Jacob has come out with a perfect album for a hot summer day, cider and friends. While not particularly psychedelic or trippy and pretty much non stop prog, Enjoy The Ride is a bunch of fun from start to finish. I listened to it while walking through Swedish forests in the sun today and I can say that it fit the mood perfectly. Punchy kick drums, rolling bass lines, lots of catchy vocals and melodies. In fact, if like me your only source of vocal music is a selection of tracks by Sade and Dido but at the same time you still enjoy your words then this album will hit the spot. Instead of following the typical 4 to the floor prog pattern Jacob keeps his music interesting by chopping his beats up while retaining all the rhythm. Most tracks start with cool dubby or breakbeat sections that spiral off into prog wonderland and most end in ecstasy. While some tracks feel like they are going to be typical pieces I can assure you that Jacob doesn't let anything get boring, typical or dry. Favourites: 4, 7, 9 and 12. Tracks 12 is a really really good downtempo piece. https://www.beatport.com/release/enjoy-the-ride/2396790

He started the project in the mid nineties with the release on Interstella Rec. He cut his teeth promoting a small psychedelic night called 'Aphid Moon' and djing and performing live in various London squats, clubs and outdoor parties. In 2001 he had a breakthrough track with ‘A lot of Radio’ on Flying Rhino Records and it would be safe to say things really took off from that point. Since then he's had releases on virtually all the British psy-trance labels (Tip World, Twisted, Dragonfly, Alchemy, Atomic, Organic and Nano Records) as well a variety of foreign labels. His first album 'High Diver' was released on Dragonfly Records in 2003 a deep nighttime sound with a distinctly British psychedelic twist. His unique style has developing ever since playing DJ & live sets in Japan, Israel, S.A., Brazil, South and Central America, U.S.A., Europe and the U.K at Festivals, Clubs and Parties. He's a regular on Universo Parallelo, Vuuv and Glade Festival lineups. 2005 saw the birth of his new full-on incarnation with the release 'Global Culture' album on Anglo/South African label Nano Records. In 2007 he collaborated with producer Dick Trevor to produce the AMD's Album 'Big Fish' on Nano Records which has become a trance classic. He launched his own UK based label Aphid Records in 2008 with the debut digital ep AphidEp001. Over the past few years label has been steadily gathering pace with two more collaborative Ep's 'Star Brith' and 'Synthetic Life', 'Trancelantic' and a Digi Single 'Complex Retracement' as well as his third Album 'Super Collider'. 3. Artist: K.O.B. Title: Identity Mash Label: Suntrip Records Date: May, 2017 1. Check In 2. Folie a Deux 3. Klecks 4. Grandiose Thoughts (Original Version) 5. Inculcating Ideas (Filteria Mix) 6. Identity Mash 7. Cousin It (2017 Mix) 8. Check Out feat. BOTB "I'm two people in one!" It's important to know who you are. It's the very foundation on which you build your character and what you go on to accomplish in life. K.O.B. is Jannis Tzikas and the alternate personality if you will of his more widely known project Filteria. While the latter is defined by melodies and is pure goa music through and through the former is a mash of styles relying heavily on the psychedelic aspect. This album is more concerned with driving rhythms and allowing the music to evolve. Sometimes building, sometimes deconstructing. It's robotic (not meant in a negative way), futuristic, and oftentimes the sound choices can sound metallic and harsh. But there is no mistaking who is behind this project as his goa soul shines through quite clearly. And sometimes angrily (which I like). The title and artwork accurately describe what is located within, a combination of forest and goa all tucked neatly under an umbrella of psychedelic psytrance. While not my favorite release from the vaunted Suntrip Records it continues to prove that they are not all sunshine and rainbows and haven't forgotten that psytrance indeed needs to remain psychedelic. 5. Artist: Aion Title: Scepter Of The Machine Construct Label: None yet I don't think, Maybe Kali Earth soon? Release: September 3, 2018 Tracklist: - 1. Scepter of Ra 2. The Construct 3. Insane Cyborg Aion is Norwegian trance producer who has gifted us with a 3 track ep with a range of different influences and styles. No matter what style is being used, you will hear notes of melody, with full body, low acidity, low tannins, rich buttery synths, with a spicy finish. Scepter of Ra - A proper slow intro has you unsure what this track is gonna be. But the beat kicks in eventually and the track really does develop beyond your expectations. Where'd you hear those eastern melodies in Norway Aion? Oh sure the internet. This track is a complete banger that I more than like. Without a doubt my favourite. The Construct - I guess we know what we are in for now so the dramatic intros can disappear. We have now entered blissful psychedelic territory and I don't want to leave. Insane Cyborg - You know from the second this track starts that it's gonna be some heavy full-on. It's fun to be right. I don't normally find much to say about full-on but after getting to like Aion's style in the last couple of tracks I am more than well lubed for this banger. The beat tempo changes, melody, synths pretty much the whole shebang is pleasant. Not once does the track get corny or predictable. I don't know what they feed you there in Norway. Wait yes I do, it's the Surströmming isn't it? If tinned fish that needs to be opened outdoors is what it takes to make great music then I'm ok with that. Unlike your fermented salted Herring I can take this ep with me on an international flight. Apparently Kali Earth Records is gonna pick this release up but it's available for NYP as the moment in Aions band camp page. https://aion.bandcamp.com/releases
  6. Artist: Psychowave Title: Chronicles ep Label: Spacedock Records Date: July 27, 2018 1. Elephants In Pocitos 2. Fight Like A Woman 3. Life Waves Psychowave has produced two tracks which have found their way into my favourite list. His ear for melody and production technique is a treat and sends me into euphoria every time I listen. The new ep comes complete with some pretty artwork done by Natan himself and 3 tracks containing plenty of funk. Elephants In Pocitos - Not as many elephant sounds as I was expecting but still a well produced song thats got a fat baseline and trip atmospheres abound. Fight Like A Woman - Yea declare a never ending battle that you can escape from at any moment but subject your enemy to at any moment at your discretion. Yea that’ll do it. Great trippy song with good development and huge drums pounding away. Life Waves - A quick lesson on waves and a great collection of melodies intertwined with one another. My favourite of the three but just by a hair. This aint no Sunshine Reborn, but a less melodic more psychedelic trippier blast into happy land. Well done to SpaceDock for their continued support of a great artist, who has managed to avoid the norm of the Brazilian psytrance scene and produce Goa blasters. The title of the album suggests more eps to come in the same vein, I'm looking forward to those insta-buys. https://spacedockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sddg014-psychowave-chronicles-ep

    ZEE - Id.Entity

Artist: Zebbler Encanti Experience Title: Id.Entity Label: Gravitas Reecordings Release: June 5th, 2018 1. Id.Entity 2. ZEE & Woulg - Flesh Out 3. ZEE & Of The Trees - Let Me In 4. Trance Humanism 5. ZEE & Prismatic - Caverns 6. Journey To The Centre Of The Artichoke 7. ZEE & Hlafred - Immanent Flow 8. Id.Entity (Mr. Bill Remix) 9. Exit Stance From their website: Zebbler Encanti Experience (aka “ZEE”) is an audio/visual collaboration between video artist Zebbler and electronic music producer Encanti, based out of Boston, USA and Valencia, Spain. Remember the first time you got lost listening to Psytrance? Finding yourself in a state of complete bewilderment, unable to predict what was going to happen next, looking around for someone to share your confusion with, desperately trying to figure out if it would be ok to pick your laundry up a few days late? Or do they give it away after 2 days? No it couldn't be two days. They can't hold onto it forever though can they? whats the time limit then? And will they tell me off when I arrive or is it normal? whats normal though? Wait a minute is this the same DJ? Well thats pretty much what you get with duo ZEE. It’s a beautiful thing to find an album as completely messed up, crazy and unique as what ZEE produces. Whether you like the style or not their ability to dance between 4 different genres in one song so seamlessly is a worthy of a mention. From the entire Gravitas crew ZEE gets me moving in the most directions at once. The album cover accurately portrays their style, one look and you know you're in for some psychedelic madness. Psychedelic madness that will help you push 104 when you’re in a 100 zone, any track from a ZEE album will get you there. While the last albums I listened to from them Inner G and Freakquency were all about the drop with elements of trap and trance throughout most songs, here we get an even amount of glitch, bass, trance and trap, all heavily psychedelic of course. If your not a fan of the style I wouldn’t recommend listening the entire way through. But I’m sure the style or craziness of a few songs here might make you say ‘huh, what the heck just happened? Lets do that again'. Zebbler Encanti Experience has a way of making sure that you have no idea what's going to happen next and almost always pulls it off. Favourite tracks 4, 6, 9. https://music.gravitasrecordings.com/album/id-entity

  13. Artist: Moonbird Title: The Indescribable Label: Self-Released Date: August, 2013 01 - Gates Of Haraom (75 BPM) 02 - (An)other Dimension (145 BPM) 03 - Punishment System (148 BPM) 04 - Jazz With Wartuba (145 BPM) 05 - The Small Sorcerer (136 BPM) 06 - How To Style The Drive (138 BPM) 07 - Sound Gamma Radiation (154 BPM) 08 - Violet Noise For 7 Days (140 BPM) 09 - Circle Of Stones (152 BPM) 10 - We Are Light (Full Mix) (148 BPM) I sincerely hope that the psychedelic community is visiting Ektoplazm on a regular basis. It has been an invaluable resource for great music that would otherwise have been relegated to the unheard bits and bytes of the internet. They truly have something for everyone regardless of taste. Vytautas Paukstelis is from Lithuania and at this time this is his only release. Is it darkpsy? Forest? Psy or progressive? A little bit of all actually. The details (effects that amplify the atmosphere and where I think his strength lay) stand out on the downtempo intro and dark tracks like (An)other Dimension thrusting the listener right into the ancient forest. Jazz With Wartuba is creepy with liquid hallucinations and the dark vibe is palpable. I love the break in How To Style the Drive...involving. Sound Gamma Radiation is part darkpsy, part...Suomi? I dunno, but I enjoyed it. If I had a criticism it would be that some of the details and atmosphere get lost in the overwhelming beat and bass. It's accessible for the casual listener (even if it's a bit all over the place) and while far from my favorite album I was glad I gave it a listen. Some good ideas in here. Free at Ektoplazm

  15. Artist: Hypnoxock Title: Moving In Trance (The Collection) Label: Astronautic Records Date: December, 2012 01 - Logic Evolution (138 BPM) 02 - Reflex (138 BPM) 03 - Viped 1 (138 BPM) 04 - Next World (140 BPM) 05 - Camouflage (130 BPM) 06 - Dimensio Desconeguda (138 BPM) 07 - Electroxock (145 BPM) 08 - Progresion Ecliptica (144 BPM) 09 - Ecstassy (145 BPM) 10 - Vibrations (Cosmic Remix) (147 BPM) 11 - Emotions (140 BPM) 12 - Rare Planet (147 BPM) What was once the best kept secret in psytrance is now one of the projects that restores faith in a genre that has seen its ups and downs. Hailing from Spain we are freshly basking in the afterglow of his latest album Eurythmia where he continues to develop his hybrid of goa, psy, and progressive trance. What makes this project so special is the attention to detail without sacrificing power or atmosphere. Total package. This release (which I guess is a collection of b-sides or unreleaseds?) is six years old as of this writing and like the rest of the catalog it is extremely solid. 12 digital tracks where they (at the time I think they were a duo) go up and down the genre with super results. Reflex and Viped 1 straddle that psychedelic progressive line while Camouflage will keep your toe tapping in a euphoric style with a progressive bpm. Even the tracks that aren't superlatives (full-on) still reek of quality and detail. If you like their lush and powerful style this one won't disappoint. Free at Ektoplazm
  16. Artist: Praktika Title: Playing the Presets Label: Trance Bum Records Date: November, 2016 01 - Kierron Rajoilla (139 BPM) 02 - Hairahdus (140 BPM) 03 - Rahat Pois! (128 BPM) 04 - Donkey Kong (100 BPM) 05 - RooTest (146 BPM) 06 - Tuskien Taival (142 BPM) 07 - Fail Safe (139 BPM) 08 - Sea Of Mud (Mutameri Reggae) (100 BPM) "Here's to better living through chemistry!" Sometimes I go on a tear and just listen to music I've downloaded from Ektoplazm. There's a lot of what the f*ck moments to be found if we're being honest. It's how I feel about Suomi music in general, but the creativity is off the charts. This album was apparently lost and was originally supposed to be released in 1999 by Exogenic Records. I would describe this as psytrance mixed with Suomi and dusted with goa trance influences. It certainly sounds like it came from 99 when hardware ruled. The funky beat and piano riffs in Donkey Kong are enjoyable and I really liked the "late goa after the glory years" Tuskien Taival, along with the real drum sounds of Sea of Mud. Unfortunately the rest of the album didn't hold my attention with it's kooky sounds and sometimes uninteresting sounds. This type of sound has a very loyal following so even if I didn't care for most of it I can certainly respect it. Free at Ektoplazm

  18. Artist: Various Artists Title: Phonophilia compiled by Gayle Adams Label: Phonix Records Cat no.: PHODIGI022 Format: Digital download Artwork by Paulo Etnarama Phonophilia is defined as the love of sounds. For Phonix Records and our extended family, 8 years into our journey, this love for sounds stays true. It is the north star that helps us stay the course. With that in mind, our very own Gayle Adams, partner and co-manager at Phonix Records, started her own journey to compile this release - a testament to the sounds we love. Over a year a later and Phonophilia was born - a journey built to stand the test of time. The release starts off with Infektion's 'Rage' (Bruno Lopes/Portugal). Deep and deliberate, it is an ode to the classic twilight sound only the way Infektion knows how to - intense and engaging without compromise. Glitch (Dash Hawkins/ South Africa) steps in to dispel any 'Misconceptions'. More energy, more groove and a robot communicating through melodies a single message - something wicked, this way comes. We then go into the depths of the inner self. Through the practice of deep meditation, and fundamental vibrations, L.E.O.F and Ionkhe (Mario Funes and Ivan Lugo/Mexico) show listeners how each one of us can be a 'Nuclear Army' unto ourselves. Reborn with a new sense of understanding - we encounter a message from the other side. FinalFlash (Robert Dalton/South Africa) share the otherworldly tail of 'Dhampyre'. A beautiful story with bone chilling atmospheres - a story as ancient as time itself. coRupt (Andre Rossouw/ South Africa) furthers this new found sense of focus through 'Strange Fiction'. He helps transition the release to the next level with an effortlessly woven story of epic proportions. The next chapter gets the adrenal glands working in overtime - Domination (Ricardo Barreto/Mexico) remixes Locked Locker's 'Alpha' (Marcelo Espindola/Brazil and Josue Guzman/Mexico). Carefully honed to a razor's edge - this is truly a diamond in the rough. Killer Buds (Marcelo Espindola and Tarcisio Mainardi/ Brazil) and Dirty Devils (Felipe Vidigal and Emilio Renault / Brazil) take this energy one step further with their outrageously over-powered tale of 'The Lumberjack'. Among all the chaos and mayhem, 'The Descent' into a melodic dimension starts with Earworm (Max Meshiv/Israel). The master does it again - with this slick psychedelic BOMB. Not to be outdone are Contrast and ReFractor's 'Hyper Drive' (Conor James Steed and Luan Boes/South Africa) - a deeper exploration further into the melodic dimension. With the final leg of this release, Epitaph (Andres Romero and Jose Novelo/Mexico) featuring Orc'N'Roll (Alejandro Olvera/Mexico) take listeners into a burst of energy, guitar riffs and shadowy melodies. Singularity (Andre Muller/South Africa) further explores this realm with his epic remix of Iron Lotus's 'Lotus of Sorrow' (Daniel Honor/South Africa). A well-executed story that effortlessly balances both power and beauty. Not to be outdone, Phonix scientist Omega Flight (Derren Nuttall/UK) teams with Twisted Reality (Ben Edge/UK) to present a deranged re-telling of Deliriant's 'Truth be Told' (Shane Renew/South Africa). A wormhole of an experience, their remix transforms this classic into something truly unique. Beware, the acid is indeed in the music. The final chapter of our journey is 'Anechoic Chamber' by FrontRunner (Marc Le Roux/South Africa) featuring Rubix Qube (Kieron Grieves/South Africa). It is a fitting end to our exploration of Phonophilia. Beware - the 'Anechoic Chamber' will completely absorb any residual waves and whatever is left of listeners with its measured manic chaos.
