  1. can anyone tell me the name & artist of this song?
  2. get something like a novation xio-synth. there really cheap & do a lot. great for beginners.
  3. something i like to do is jam with really long riffs. i mainly do this on my nord lead 2 because i dont have to worrie about assignin nobs on the midi control to the vst. but it can be done just a little time consuming. start with a few of the basic controls such as. frequency, resonance, amp attack & amp release. hit record so ur riff is playing & start tweaking those nobs. crank the release up for 2 two beats then cut it back out. etc. & just keep recording. its a lot of fun & this way the lead sounds are constantly changing & exciting the listener. then after u have checked out the recording & choosen the ones u like add effects such as 'effectrix', dual filters, reverb etc. dont forget u can also automate all the controls on the effects. also layer a few different vst sounds together & drop out a few notes here n there so that there not all playing the same notes all the time. the thing that i really like about psytrance is how they get sounds to 'move', a noise may sound like it is coming out of the speaker towards u then goes left & back into the speaker, then seem to go up in the air. i really dont know how to achieve this but i have accidentally come across it in some preset.
  4. just want to know of some good reverb vst for mac. i having trouble getting some vocals sounding good just using the the reverb in cubase studio 4. can anyone recommend me some vst's thanks

Personaly i like there first CD a lot more. bring back GLOOPY GUM GUM!!!

  14. i found this for cubase 4. it does the trick. u just have to update cubase
  15. just wondering if u worked this out. im using studio 4 on a mac & i want to assign controls on my xiosynth to the position knob on the dual filter. i dont understand the midi device manager part at all. i found 2 programs that act like the "learn midi" function but they are for PC.
  16. i always start with a melody or loop that i usally make up on the guitar. then i add a kick, snare, hats (this is all very simple still just to see what it sounds like with different drum patterens). then i add some bass. get a nice little loop going adding sounds & things to the loop (usually a 16th loop). once i have that ill start to build the track from the start. adding all those little psy sounds & effects as i go. all building up to the main loop or loops i created.
  17. Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love (Total Confusion Rmx)
  18. i have a song that ive been tweaking around with to get the levels right & im at the stage were im happy with all the levels. the master is set a 0db but i have noticed that on the master out peaks at about -1.4 im going to put a limiter on later to boost & even out the overall volume. my question is should i increase every channel to get the master out as close to 0db, increase the master channel to +1db to get it as close to 0db, or should i leave it as it is & use a limiter to get that extra 1db??? im guessing boosting all the channels would be the best & try & leave the master at 0db. but this is a pain in the arse so does it really matter when mixing using your software?? i read somewere when using a hardware mixer you should try never to increase the master out over 0db but is software different??
  19. i found this help full at http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm Buzzwords. By boosting or cutting the bands on your equalizers, you can make your sound more or less "airy" (16khz), "bright" (3-10kHz) "harsh" (which is excessive brightness) "edgy" and "brittle" (2-6k) "sweet" (a slight but wide cut at 2-8k), "warm" (slight upper bass boost and slight 4k cut). You can make your mix sound "thin" by reducing an wide band of frequencies from around 200-400 hz and make it "thick" by increasing those. If you increase it too much you'll have a "muddy" mix. Your bass can go from "missing" to "buried" to "solid", "fat", "boomy" depending on how you set the low frequency controls. as all ready mentioned give every sound its own space & EQ
  20. the question was more to do with how to achieve that sound. not how do u use the glide function. personal i find some soft synth are more fiddle to use the glide function on. the subtractor in reason is really easy but i find sylenth1 is a lot harder to achive the same effect. also after mucking around with this for a while ive found that auto-mating the filter cut-off has achieved a more satisfying effect for me.
  21. attack, decay, sustain, release understanding that & how it works
  22. i remember the first time i opened cubase i had no idea what to do. i was used to using reason & everything was totally different. ill list a few things i had trouble with they may be a bit more mid-level but just to give u some more ideas. - getting my midi controller to work!! (took me so long to figure out that my midi-controller was set to channel 16) - rewire reason (needed to update both cubase & reason) - installing new VST's & getting them to work (did my head in for a very long time because id never used them before. installed AU's & wondered why it didn't wrk, didn't put them in the right plugin folders, didn't update my plugin information in cubase) that was the main things before id even tryed to write anything in cubase. when i started to write some stuff id come up with a loop but the could never go anywere with it. - i struggled to make a start to my songs - didn't know how to make good build ups (like opening the release, turning up the frequency, using a duel filter) - never used to layer sounds to make a track sound more 'fuller' or use pads - never used an arpeggiator (coming from reason) & once i learnt what the hell it was WOW things seemed so easy!! (for a beginner) these are just some things off the top of my head that i can remember struggling with. hopefully give u some more idea's
