  1. Holy cow, that E-Mantra track Liquid Frequencies! O.O
  2. I know exactly what you mean, well almost... I'm not familiar with this track specifically, but Astral's ambient side is absolutely amazing. For the longest time, when I lived in hot and sunny Israel in my teens I used to come home everyday after school and listen to Ambient Galaxy and Liquid sun (and I think a couple more of their ambient tracks... well, they don't have many, but I just remember those), and I used to put on the UV-light, the air condition, and incense and smoke a Nargila (middle eastern style fruit tobacco water pipe) with my friend and just zone out and eventually fall asleep, in eachour own bed in this big diplomatic luxurious apartment room - like every day for months and months. There was something just so magical about this very specific ritual, I can't explain it. After-school + Israel + air condition + UV + incense + nargila + friend and ambient AP... it was just an amazing combination. Like nostalgia extreme mixed with a magical drug... that's how that still feels in my mind. Ambient AP can freeze a moment in time you will never forget. AP are masters, absolute masters. When I read your comment I just happened to listen to a bypassing ambient goa track by random, it's pretty good and has somwhat the same feel of AP. It's by Coagoa and it's called 'Algae Forest (Haunted Fores Psytrance Mix)'. Worth a check.
  3. Yeah, that might very well be... I didn't get the impression he was necessarily focusing on pure Goa... but everything derived from Goa... I guess, seeing as how he praised how it keeps evolving he was in fact talking about Psy and High-Tech and all that stuff. Which brings us back to square one on the whole point, lol. Oh well...
  4. I actually think it's possible to create a hell of a lot more innovation within the same (sub/)genre... At least, when I hear a lot of tracks I often think of all the things I would do to the track to make it more wicked, and I can imagine it vividly, and the way it sounds in my mind still allows for it to be in the same sub... Anyway, there are artists out there who effectively manage to innovate. Just look at what Posford is and always has been doing to Psy and Goa... he always took it a step deeper, and seemingly with ease. He just has the mind and touch for it... and instrumentation... he puts passion and time into it. Well, this has been my impression as far and long as I've been following his music. Also Prometheus seems to me to be of the same caliber. I don't know, you may be way past that and over used to it, for sure. But the potential is always there - within the same genre. You can tell when an artist is just having fun, being lazy, just wants to make sweet sounds... and when an artist truly wants to push the envelope - the latter is a lot more rare for sure. I'm sure you've checked out Psykovsky... that's not really my typical cup of tea... but I would easily lay on the carpet on a trip and swim into that wonderworld of audio craziness for that kind of occasion. It's pure art. It's completely something else, barely even music... it's just a pure artistic psychedelic experience. I generally listen to music while walking, skating, biking or working... so any of these modern Goa artists (Filteria, Lektro Spektral Daze, Crossing Mind, Khetzal) do it for me... I don't need it to be pushing the envelope per say... just tasty psychedelicness tickling the mind you know, Psykovsky would just be way too distracting for me... though I do always look out for the unexpected new experience within the Goa funk I surf upon... it's not always there, but it's ok... it still sounds good as hell... even when the sounds dont take me out of my mind, they still feel like mdma on my mind... every time a goa synth sound bends, oooohhh... it's just sexy... PS: Goa Gil by the way... old ass man who's been through all kinds of music... he said in an interview that Goa is the only genre that still stimulates him and which still evolves. Just kinda interesting to note that this old man feels that way... You would understand it if he were sick of it or were taking big breaks, but nope... he is lathered in it... But it's people who get tired of something that often end up being the innovators... so maybe you should get the instruments and make it happen...
  5. Cool... that's a beastly track, they both are... ^^
  6. Lol... I knew this would be controversial. I get it, I feel you. I get the underlying cheese of his music, but I have a conflicted affinity for his music. Midnight Sun struck a chord with me though when I was young, like I said... that CD became a travel companion. I feel like he went in a different direction with his newer albums. But yeah... I just had to ask the community here... pretty much expecting this reaction... lol.
  7. I have a weird affinity for Alien Project. Back in the days when you only listened to the hard copies of what you actually had to physically buy and before internet orders were as easy as they are today - Alien Project - Midnight Sun was one of my deepest and trippiest audio landscape adventures I could partake on. When internet streaming opened up I started to listen to all his next albums, and though I don't think any of them really touch what Midnight Sun was... (they lack atmosphere, etc.) I for some reason always go back to them, as well as Midnight Sun. What do you guys think of his work and which album do you like the best?
  8. Deimos - Blood Magic (Jack-O-Lantern Psychedelic Acid Mix) No really mind blowing peaks per say... just a very amazing journey...
  9. Wow... The genre was my favourite thing growing up and I just fell out of it for a few years and coming back I think it's refreshing and awesome, and there's so much of it to dig into. I guess you should never grind the same old gears of any genre too long, and allow your curiosity to take you elsehwere. Lately I mix it up with dub mostly... : P Checking out other related genre's that were mentioned here I stumbled across this track which starts on 37:57... it's amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yluxX0o6Pag I would include it in my Psy-Trance mix. It delivers the same effect, just a different groove. I think the whole genre should be open to implementing different grooves more often without concern of sticking to the original genre or whatever.
  10. Dimension 5 are amazing...! Right now I'm listening through The Mystery of the Thirteen Crystal Skulls and The Secret of the Thirteen Crystal Skulls.
  11. Well, yeah... sorry about my rant and thanks for you answer. I just had to vent on the topic I suppose. I got the answer I was looking for, more or less. Just all an effort at understanding. By the way. You guys really think progressive has become so mainstream and boring? I never noticed either of these things. Not prog at parties/festivals and neither it being mainstream. I love me some Liquid Soul... that stuff is amazing... I guess it could be boring if too much of it were played though... I dunno : P
  12. In terms of psychedelic - the old authentic stuff trips me out more (very often and with greater assurance) than the new stuff despite the trippier sounds we have these days... and that seems to be simply due to the fact that almost all the old stuff just was layered in a very complex and smart way. Maybe all these modern trippier sounds are too often simply being used as short-cuts instead of true ingenuity.
  13. I'm glad this topic has been brought up. My last festivals were Boom and Ozora in the late 2000's. This has been largely due to a turbulent economy/life, but I remember how shocked I was at seeing what negative, mindless, unintelligent, unenlightening drone of sound was going on through the speakers. I grew up with the uplifting complex melodic and hypnotic sounds of 96 - 99, which was and still is the core of what I love in the genre... and coming from that expectation to what met me at the main stages was devastating. On one hand I placed spiritual value and life-outlook in what I felt through early goa, on the other hand I see that reality has truly completely lost the game. Devestating. I tried to get into it, I tried to feel what these new dark machine gun base and stupid random fart sounds had to offer, but I only felt like I was cheating my self in doing so. And what about the people? It used to be pure happy spiritually deep people. Now all I saw were zombiefied hooligans on speed and crappy research chemicals. I truly truly truly want to know WHY?! Just why?! And what the f happened? I remember I ended up in a negative downwards cycling trip at one point drinking Jack Daniels from the bottle and losing hope. Oh what blessing it was to bathe in the golden warm mental sunset of Jack Daniels. That was truly a savior. Anyway, ok the festival had it's fun moments, the music had it's glimpses in the early mornings... but come on... these festivals should be about more than small glimpses! But let's not forget the question again... why?! Why did this happen to such a beautiful genre and scene with such bright potential?! Who are these DJ's and producers anyway? Which sewers did these weirdo's suddenly come from and what are they aiming for? What happened to Hallucinogen and Astral Projection? And the likes? On a brighter note I want to add that Prometheus... is a genius. I learned that at one of these festivals. Dark and mechanic, but oh so brilliant. This is a guy who can make that dark industrial stuff into something TRULY worth while. You want to go on a psychedelic mental trance adventure? Check out Prometheus live... oh holy mother of god! But he does it with soul and integrity... which the scene is rather lacking. There was another act that struck me as amazing, but still within this kind of dark gobblish Psy, they absolutely blew my mind, "Double R.E.L.", they play with you and your expectations on the dance floor, they play around with the peaks and tensions up-builds on a whole new level and mess with your mind, they have fun with it and they are awesome. Live though... I can't say too much about their studio album. But that genre CAN in some small glimpses be amazing, apparently, but the 99% of it is utter crap and the negative hard drug and dark research chemical attitude around it all is an absolute turn off). ...What has happened to the scene?
  14. You might like music by Ananda Shake...
  15. I just settled into a new apartment and have an office room, a living room (and a kitchen actually) that I'd like to put new sound systems into... so I'm looking for inspiration for new sound systems to get. And I'd like to see what you Psy-heads have. So boast, post pics, show and tell!
  16. In one way or another I can agree with everything being said here, I love the rough sounds, I love the modern dynamic sounds, hypnotic, melodic... I'm usually the type to say I prefer the old school stuff, early Astral Projection, eastern sounds, complex clever layers and harmonies... but I'm discovering more of the modern stuff lately and I rarely find any Goa I don't like. I just checked out Crossing Mind after reading this thread yesterday and that stuff is heaven-sendt! Wow! The "100 Halloween Hits Goa Trance Psy Acid Tech House DJ Mix 2014 - Goa Party Dance Hits" (lol at the title) compilation on Spotify I recently discovered blows my mind away and shows me the genre is still holding it's own. I'm glad, I'm relieved, I'm pleased and content... I can continue digging
  17. The Scientist, Mad Professor, King Tubby... those are good places to start. The original fire starters... old school roots dub... I'm actually looking for Psy Dub... only hear it in passing once in a while... if anybody would care to mention some good Psy Dub artists I would love to check more of that out...
  18. In Sweden?! Are you fucking out of your mind?! I'm from Norway and all we ever hear here is how the Psy scene is off the hinges in Sweden. I have a friend from Norway who moved to Sweden and dj's there and everything... we get constant invitations to this and that Psy party. Take a look around in your country man....! Ah... since I'm first posting here I could contribute by saying that thankfully I don't have any dancephobia, maybe if I go some place alone, but once you get into the rythym anyway nothing else matters. I never really check out how other people dance anyway... I don't think thats something people do, especially not at Psy parties... The best advice has allready been given here though...
  19. I got my ex into Goa and Psy through psychedelic drugs which she was keen on trying. So to begin with she was interested in inner/outer-self exploration which psy and goa music is about too, so that was an easy one. But the only track that did it for her like a lot was Chi-AD - BioCandy. A track I love myself. At one pint in our relationship she said to me, "tell me about it when you find a track that has a climax and amazing melody like BioCandy". Hehe. Which I never found. She never really expressed much about psy and goa, except for that one track, but she always liked it at some hidden level. I can give you two tips though, for starts never play a genre too much for a girl. If she first dislikes it and you continue to play it a lot you will only re-enforce her hatred towards it. And as for my second advice... after she's had that little pause from Goa... play her Chi-AD - BioCandy... its an explosive party track and has that chick-touch to it... melodically sophisticated like someone here said. And if you're gonna smoke her out... get high with her... play some soft goa... or some Ace Ventura, maybe a soft mix that goes from Progressive softly over to goa. Go easy :drama:
  20. Yeah, for sure its a subjective thing... Maybe artistic effort is the thing in question. For me it sounds like alot of for instance Dark Psy just consists of that same old rolling baseline and a synth spitting out some psychedelic noises... on the other have you have what I call truely psychedelic tracks and albums which you can feel and experience how much effort there has been put into giving you a mental soundscape journey. The reason why this question has entered my mid however is that the thought of Dark Psy is alluring, the thought of entering some soundscape of psychedelic darkness is just what I feel like sometimes, though I've found very few dark songs that do that trick for me. Actually the only dark album I can mention related to this is Chris Organic - Dont Panic Chris Organic who has a refreshing twist to Dark psy. I will definately check out whats been mentioned here though... Oh and what would you reccomend of new Goa?
  21. Hi guys... ...There is this little thing that has been bugging me... Heh. Those times I wanna trip out musically and enter some musical soundscape I find Psy Trance very often doesn't do the trick... compared to Chill Out, classic Goa (probably the new Goa too, I'm not really sure what the new Goa is though...) and Progressive Trance. And somehow the more psychedelic trance tries to be, for instance Dark Psy... the less psychedelic I percieve it emotionally. Sure it has weird psychedelic sounds, but where's the weaving in and out of all the layers, the depth and acid sounds? I'm just thinking out loud and curious as to what others think... PS. Maybe I could clarify my point better by mentioning what I percieve as truely psychedelic... Shpongle, Chris Organic, Astral Projection, some Ace Ventura tracks, the good old Midnight Sun album by Alien Project (what a depth and soundscape!) just to name a few...
