  1. Dude, you are dredging up a lot of really old threads! Haha is it a joke? I find it pretty funny anyway.
  2. Oh man, I'm looking at getting either the NW-ZX300A (Chinese version of ZX300, only difference being internal storage) or NW-A45. Does the balanced out on your 300 sound much different than single end out? That's really my only concern, as I don't plan on buying a bunch of balanced cables and I read that Sony put more engineering effort into the balanced ports. I got the Campfire Audio Cascade recently. Very highly recommended for electronic music. Good for other genres too.
  3. WOW that's so generous of you! PM me and I'll give you my PayPal address. I own all of the Mind Rewind compilations and am anxiously awaiting 4.
  4. That's $22 total with shipping for me. I can buy two albums for that price, so no thanks. I'd like to have the Ubar Tmar album, but there's too much good music out there to justify that price. An $8 or $10 digital album added to my bandcamp collection (not a link to a one time wav download) makes it an easy decision.
  5. Why no digital download option on bandcamp? For the folks who don't do CD anymore, this is disappointing.
  6. I use iFi DSD Micro Black Label fed by a Fiio X3 into Audeze LCD-2 headphones... hardly mediocre, and the only time I can tell the difference between lossless and 320 mp3 is with very well recorded acoustic music. Even then, I have to really concentrate hard on every detail to be able to distinguish between the two. It makes no real difference with electronic music.
  7. I'd love to see the results of a double blind listening test between wav, FLAC, and 320kbps mp3 around here, especially trying to distinguish the difference using electronic music. Fantastically produced acoustic music, you might be able to notice a 3.287% difference. Electronic music, or anything else that's compressed similarly, I bet nobody here could tell the difference.
  8. It's "EDM club" music wrapped in psytrance effects. Not that you aren't allowed to listen to it, but I surely wouldn't call it psychedelic.
  9. You've all given me hours of music to investigate, thanks. Battle of the Future Buddhas and Schlabbaduerst Recs are the bomb. I knew of them already, and no new discoveries have beat them.
  10. Nice reply, thanks for the recommendations!
  11. I mainly listen to goa when it comes to psychedelic trance, but the squirmy squelches of forest appeal to me quite a bit too. My problem is I've never delved into the genre, there are too many releases, and I spend my energies exploring music I already know (techno, goa, dub techno). After some cursory listens it seems that Forestdelic Records puts it out high quality tunes. Can anyone point me to the best releases? It would be much appreciated! Long story short, I'm lazy and want good forest psy. Please help PS If there are better forest labels I should be looking at, please mention those too!
  12. No Mind Rewind 4 release in 2017 unfortunately... good thing I've developed a DEEP appreciation for Identity Mash! The more I listen, the more I like it. Here's to a better 2018 in goa trance. Triquetra is a very good start.
  13. Pretty mediocre to be honest. Asia 2001 Live reissue is pretty awesome. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to Mind Rewind 4, most likely going to be my favorite goa album of the year. Much bigger year in techno for me, but that belongs in another forum.
  14. Sad state of affairs that this is where the genre is headed in large part.
  15. One more link... for the Bandcamp heads out there. https://tranceformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/anima-mundi
  16. I'd mentioned in another thread here that I've been into electronic music including goa trance since '99, but hadn't really dug in deep into the genre until the last couple years. Death metal on the other hand has been a musical obsession of mine since '94, and I know the genre and sub genres well. It's surprising how parallel death metal and goa trance are in their histories: both saw their heyday in the early to mid '90s, both saw a strong resurgence in interest in the latter part of the first decade of the 20th century. Both have fans and artists that want to see music created in the old style to perfection, and fans and artists who want to see things progress. Nothing is intrinsically wrong with any of this. Where death metal and goa trance diverge though is that there are new death metal bands who either keep pace with the old masters, or in rare instances outperform the old masters. Almost without exception, they do it via creative songwriting. It's old but new, and amazing. Maybe when old goa heads are complaining about the new goa coming out, it's because there isn't much being released that's "old but new and amazing". It's mostly either old but new and not so amazing, or new and not so amazing, or new and amazing. This is just me speculating on something I don't know too much about and haven't put a whole lot of thought into though heh heh
  17. This is one big factor contributing to the lack of depth and space in the new school sound. I'd love to hear some of these new albums with a much higher dynamic range... they'd open up, details would be more distinct and discernable, the music would have more impact. There's been a huge debate in metal over the last five years or so regarding dynamic range, and it's nice to see more and more albums sounding better and better. I doubt the industry standard of crushing sound with compression will change in goa circles though. Anyway, more to the point, I have to agree with the folks who observed that there was plenty of bad goa produced in the '90s, but the good ones are remembered. To an extent I'd have to agree that there isn't as much innovation in songwriting today vs in the '90s, but I find plenty of albums that I'd rate good to great.
  18. It sounds like a nightmare. I don't have the means, time, or knowledge to be able to do something like this any time soon (as in before I retire from the military in the next five or ten years), but your response helps me to appreciate the reissues available more fully. Transdimensional and Psykadelia are two of my favorites,so thanks for all the hard work. I guess the next question is how do specific albums get chosen as 'the one' to be reissued?
  19. I've been listening to goa and psytrance since '99, but until recently I hadn't really plumbed the depths. The recent trend of reissues by labels like DAT Records, Suntrip, Zion 604,etc are MUCH appreciated and very welcome additions to many people's collections, but of course there are still lots of hard to find (for a reasonable price) fantastic albums out there. My question is, how difficult is it to reissue these old gems? Stuff like Koxbox, MFG, Planet Ben, etc. I mean, I can't even find this stuff as downloads!
