  1. LOL!!! Funny how so many people like GMS. I don't dislike them because it's cool too, it just always seemed like the least inspired fullon out there?! Hell, it doesn't even have the same vibe as most Israeli fullon as far as I'm concerned. Just a lot of high pitched squelches with no groove and not enough oomph or bass. One of those groups whose wavelength just never reached me except for the odd song or remix. But more power to you! If you like it, then I'm happy for you that it will be out. I'll hold still so you can all swing clubs and knives at me *ducks at last minute*

    Jaïa - Fiction

Yeah man, beautiful music. It's almost sad when you compare this to the average comp. they are releasing these days.

    Jaïa - Fiction

Great album. Listening to it right now as a matter of fact. At first I liked it but thought it had lost some of that early Jaia goa edge. But no, it's just different. And it's very very good. Smooth, with great groove and even oldschool sounds and arrangements that are so nicely combined that it doesn't sound oldschool if that makes sense. This is possibly the best follow-up album by a revered oldschool artist(s) that I've heard. This guy waited forever to release this and he released it on DS. If he wanted to just rake in cash, he would have released some poo with the baseline a long time ago. He waited in spite of expectations and created this masterpiece. A true flowing and beautiful journey. Money well spent without question. I can imagine hearing this outdoors and just going off. Great dance music. It may have slight influences from other styles, but it is not house or any other style. It has a distinctive psy touch. Worth the wait.
  4. Actually, about Atmos, what strikes me most about it is that it took me a while to appreciate. Once I did, it opened doors for me. At the same time, I find this album quickly grabs the attention of people I know who I wouldn't expect to like anything I listen to. I thought about that once and realized that it was probably a commentary on me and my taste rather than the taste of those people I've played it for who like it also.
  5. Hmmm... how about psychedelic minimal? Lol! It's good. How about we agree to agree?
  6. Atmos - Headcleaner has been around long enough that it's classic. Minimal prog I'd say. And now for some recent stuff that is, in my opinion, pure GOLD: Lish - Free Fall Antix - Twin Coast Discovery Jaia - Fiction (prog with other influences) Freq - Strange Attractors Easily the four best CDs I've got in I don't know how long... Respect to those artists!!! And honorable mention goes to: Vibrasphere - Lime Structure Human Blue - Electric Roundabout

Well, I'm curious to hear the new one. His first was great. The second... eeeh. Blah. But the third? Samples?
  8. I can't believe nobody mentioned: Protoculture - Refractions Silicon Sound - Pure Analog --> also excellent. Wonder if he will ever release another album as good as that? Early Astrix, Jirah, and Triptych are also good.
  9. I bet you he knows that, but he is writing this for school remember. The fact that he would even write such a thing indicates that he has a passion for the music and understands that there is more to it than just logical deconstruction and analysis. That doesn't make his paper any less interesting. Just a different way to look at it.
  10. Uh... yeah. And there it is --> the truth. I would also agree that Blue Room was a bigger loss. Really, the loss in both cases was the loss of availability of older great music, because both label had withered to obscurity by the time they went belly up. Psy continues nonetheless.
  11. You can see that Eskimo has talent, but most of his stuff is utter rubbish. However, I'm not surprised that you were hooked by the Nano sound. This has been my fav. label for a long time. You simply can't go wrong with their releases. Quality is the word. Sadly, their last compilation doesn't grab me as much... I'm hoping it's just a blip on the radar screen. As was recommended above, there's lots to explore, both oldshcool and otherwise. Welcome.
  12. So many great artists. I could have voted for many. But if I have to pick one... the choice was easy: Astral Projection.
  13. I've heard of him and seen/heard him play many times, but then I live in Vancouver... He loves to play quirky/twisted full-on as well as melodic stormers and is very energetic while he DJs. Probably my favorite local DJ.
  14. Oh, there is some new compilation on a "Planet BEN" label. Thought that was a solo album.
  15. Planet BEN has a new album coming out... ???
  16. What good are reviews? Something I can scan quickly to decide whether it's even worth 10 mintues of my time to listen to some samples. How do you use them? What is the purpose of them? See above. Will you track down a compilation from a label you've never heard of if the reviews coming in are solid? It depends. A good review quickly lets you now what style an album is. I pay attention to certain reviewers whose taste I expect to match mine. Then I see what they say. If that's sounds interesting, then I check the overall theme of the reviews. If I'm still interested, I will spend time listening to samples. The more positive the reviews, the more of a chance I'll give it. A true evaluation requires multiple reviews, something sadly lacking from this once great site. [isratrance offers lots of meaningless reviews by 13 year old kids that love everything ever released, so I don't even bother reading reviews on that site -- only the promotional section is worth looking at to get a heads up on what's coming out.] Or are you more cautious, using reviews to screen new releases that you already figure you would like? Somewhat yes. See comment above. That being said, how many go out and gather mp3 previews of the albums first, to make up your own mind? Can't even be bothered with mp3's. I listen to samples on webshops. I've been growing wary of the sheer abundance of positive reviews coming out. You're not the only one. The reviewers with the greatest volume of output are the ones receiving promos, I think. Indeed. Opinion seems to be devalued in favour of description. Yes. Easier to describe than to say what is true... this is just some average piece of shit that I got for free but I can't say that or they'll stop sending Cd's to me. What does that mean for the people reading the reviews? What does it all mean for reviews in general? Has it all mostly been co-opted into being another arm of the promotional efforts of the labels? Are reviews a rather useless relic from the time, so many years ago, when sites like TRiP provided a valuable service to trance fans worldwide. I couldn't have said it better myself. This is why I was so opposed to the Isratrance like "cleanup" of this site. I predicted it would end the usefullness of the reviews and said as much. The review Nazi's took over though and things have never been the same. I can say that the early reviews helped me a great deal while I was getting to know Goa trance! The scene is vastly different now in 2005 however, so what is the place of reviews nowadays? I just don't know. I still read them though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The guy that started the topic usually posts reasonable reviews and i usually pay attention to his thoughts. Ha! The guy that starts it is often the guy who got the promo. I skip the first and read after that for the opinion of people who actually paid for it (unless the first guy is a guy I trust and/or believe actually paid for it). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The track-by-track reviews are useless, too long and meaningless. I want to know about the overall vibe and flow not read crappy descriptions of tracks, samples provide more information than 2-3 bad lines of "description". I'll just skip to the conclusion. As far as grades are conserned, some people can't handle 10 grades. An average release gets 7/10 when it should have 5/10 and a good release gets 9/10 when it should have 6/10 or 7/10. Then there's the strong compilations that get 10/10 even though they provide nothing new. So fucking true. Yes, yes, and yes. You must dance to this one folks. Totally killaaaaarrrr. Buddy boy released his debut album last year on our shit label and quickly went on a world tour that included every current trance hot spot, and now he's releasing his new fresh totally inspired second album... complete with GMS remix and collaboration with some mediocre Israeli 'artist.' Wow. Super killer. Buy now. You won't be dissappointed until it arrives.
  17. Hallucinogen listeners are so dedicated. I'm rather neutral on the whole matter. I'll offer my objective point of view: it's been clear for a while, given his lack of production and various interviews etc., that Simon himself feels somewhat burned out and is lacking the kind of inspiration needed to produce a wicked Hallucinogen album that could even come close to pleasing his dedicated worshipers. I highly doubt he will ever again release a pure Simon only H album. Even if he did, I can imagine the cries of dissappointment. The expectations are so high. I think the best you can hope for is a full collaboration album...
  18. If you like the X-wave track, check out early X-dream. Otherwise, Cali Sunshine never been my fav.
  19. Translucent - pure shit Moon Unit - amusing but bad Fallen Angel - yawn Entheogenic - lose the chick and now we're talkin'
  20. Melicia --> "brilliant debut" ... I think not. One playable song with the baseline, and nothing else. Pure Poonokol crap. Sandman is responsible for the Green House Effect album, thus proving he can please two totally opposite groups of listeners. The guy has talent. Pure and simple. No one hit wonder. His future is in doubt however...
  21. Good call on the The Thing. Great intro. Great song. And LSD is pure classic magic. I don't even like the song that much but the intro is ... legendary.
  22. I'll agree with overrated.
