  1. Ivan, check your email.
  2. What a great atmosphere... Damn, that was not Goa, that was some kind of Trance, but close. Oh I would have liked to be there.
  3. One of the very best tracks ever!!!
  4. Right, my sentence ended with "for example". I could take another example: I clearly remember Elysium was one of the projects that were very, very praised (at least in my country). Maybe less present in compilations than AP, but surely very present in DJs sets. Whereas stuff like Bodh Gaya that has a quite similar style wasn't much played, neither praised. I mean, people DID listen and compare hard too then. Anyway, I agree the investment needed at the time (not only money) was kind of a first filter of the music then produced. I agree -- although it could be twisted the other way around, saying people from eastern countries or south america couldn't afford the gear whereas they certainly had good musicians and lots of idea. Ah well, opening the "market" with software has its good and its bad facets. Overall, like many others here I guess, I'd say there's anything wrong with (Neo)Goa now, if you don't assume every release is top and if you take the time to make your own selection.
  5. Close your eyes and enjoy the music! That's all I'm saying.
  6. That is so true! When Astral Projection or Etnica were a craze, Space Tribe albums were considered as just average for example...
  7. AFAIK, I never liked the "neogoa" term. We release Goatrance. I agree there's some stereotyping due imo to the use of always the same software and quick-win recipes. But nothing prevents you as a label manager to filter what you consider to be overheard. Overheard is relative: Back in 2003, when you had 1 or 2 Goa albums a year, Goa addicts were starving so much that none complained. Now there are 5/6 Goa labels and around 20 releases a year, sure some have the feeling to hear 10 times more Goa than before, and sure there's some similar ideas. But we're still lightyears away from what's happening in the hiphop scene. I don't now about the others, but we started Suntrip because we wanted to revive Goa. Yet if we wanted the same as before, we would just have kept listening to our old records. Now, do you realize how hard this is to find some music that's labelled Goa, and yet sounds original? I can't but laugh a those people pointing at labels. Do the labels produce the music themselves? No. They select some based on what the artists have to offer. And I'm afraid to say there's not a Khetzal, RA or Koxbox album ready every year. If you keep digging that idea you might end up releasing nothing at all. At Suntrip we've never received so many promos and we've never focussed so much on quality (non-stereotyped sound, original ideas). You cannot imagine how much very decent music I turn down just because of that. But sometimes there's somethign that's nearly perfect, and even though it's made with known sounds, you KNOW people will raise their hands in the air when they listen to it. So why not give it a chance, who are we to deprive people from it? All is a matter of balance. And that's also a matter of personal tastes, sometimes even religion. I work in the IT sector and often people start complaining because they've heard about some technology too much. It's not a bad technology but they've identified its flaws and find an opportunity to claim that another technology will solve all the problem...it's a neverending story, it's human nature and I can understand it. To finish, my opinion is very basic about all this: I LOVE GOATRANCE. I will keep listening to it till I don't love it anymore. I will buy or download other Goa labels' releases. I'll simply enjoy the music there is. But I will NOT wait 10 more years for an improbable Hallucinogen or Etnica album!
  8. Hallucinogen - Twisted Simply the best to travel physically or mentally.
  9. At the time the word dark was never used. they were said to be "minimal" (like the minimal wave that was just between the goa wave and the full on wave).
  10. With artists? With the same drugs? Are you sure?
  11. Xenomorph is supermelodic if you compare it to...Cosmo for example IMO Parasense were the first ones 10 years ago. Few melodies, syncopated rhythmic, bizarre production (they didn't know how to work with hi-hats actually)... More generally Darkpsy is an excuse for lame music creation and drug abuse (usually both). A few exceptions do exist: Ocelot or Electrypnose for example know how to make music.
  12. Yes. And in the meantime I <cough>downloaded</cough> the torent. It's the MCM show (MCM logo in the corner) that was probably frst recorded on VHS (distortions, bleeding colors, etc) znd then someone made a DVD out of it. So eventually I assme there's no commercial DVD of it but padprod should be able to help to get a clean DVD dump of their old betacam (or whatever) cassette.
  13. Hmmm I see there are torrends for it (directly VOBs). But I don't know whether this is the dump of a real DVD or if it's the dump of a DVD made out of the documentaty on MCM. I will check <cough>. In any case this documentary vaguely rings a bell, I must have seen a part back in the days. But I've never heard of a DVD. I doubt there's a real commercial DVD out there because if this had been released, it would have been in VHS in the first place, and I don't think anyone would have taken the risk to reissue it a few years after on DVD whereas techno-related stuff usually doesn't sell in masses, especially in France (techno-drug link). What happens though is that such documentaries are produced by independant companies (like this one) and are first proposed to TV channels, then sold to the individuals or organizations who will make a demand. So even if it was only "made available" in the past through the MCM channel, there must be rights owners who could sell it to you. So I googled a bit and I see there a guy caled Malek Touzani who did VJing, set and report cameraman. You also learn the documentary was produced by Padprod and MCM. Interesting. So I went to Padprod website and I couldn't find the documentary there. But obviously, if you ask, they must have it on a shelf.
  14. Never liked the "new school" phrase. "Goa Trance" sounds cool.
  15. Yeah busy big time. And yes until now. It's still on my backlog, so I guess that's not relevant to make it anymore on the bestof application you've known???
  16. So everyone has a serious problem here. But IMO it would be much more valuable to dupesell (just invented a new term) artists like Justin Bieber or even Mozart. But Psytrance ??? Come on ahah. OK these guys know niche markets aren't full of lawyers either.
  17. Kinda right, BUT they ask digital distributors to justify a lot from the labels they distribute, which gives a kind of guarantee. Example, our digital distrib Record Union published this for those willing to get their releases on Beatport.
  18. Weird, Beatport is pretty cautious about these things. Anyway they don't get and distribute these releases on their own, they pass via some digital distributor first. So that (one/two) other party(ies) is(are) rotten and are selling music they don't own. First thing is to ask Beatport to stop selling the releases (you'll have to prove you own them), and ask where they come from, so you can chase the offenders behind.
  19. The new E-Mantra album "Visions from the Past" is what you're looking for these days: http://www.altar-records.com/emantra.html
  20. I'm definitely waiting for Artifact303 album
  21. Those and a lot of others http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sAHDasHLmA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8I7neMUsRI
  22. Lack of inspiration over time. Plus substances. Plus faster money if they're well known.
  23. Well, just write him and ask for more to khetzal at avigmatic dot com
  24. OK sorry but I have to say there won't be a 2010 best of. At some point I had it all prepared, I was just waiting for the list of Ektoplazm reeases, which I didn't get, then days passed as I had absolutely no free time, and now it's too late. Sorry for that.
