  4. Title: Rock Out With Your Cock Out Mixed by: DJ pr0fane (Denmark) Label: Iboga Records Style: Techno Total playing time: 63:31 minutes Date: May 5th, 2008 Format: MP3 (VBR) Size: 93 MB Equipment used: Pioneer CDJ200 & Numark Axis 2 + Pioneer DJM400 Download URL: http://www.aero-groove.com/Sets-Pr0fane.htm About “Rock Out With Your Cock Out”: Unless if you've been living under a rock for the past year, you should know by now, that techno and tech house is where it's rocking at the moment. My newest set for Aero-Groove.com contains 10 of my tech favorites from the past few months, ranging from banging dancefloor material to deeper tracks. The set starts out pretty laidback, and then gets increasingly more intense, until it finishes with some sweet, almost trancy melodies. Throw away your inhibitions, and get ready to rock out. Tracklist: 01. Soliquid - Paper Boxes // Blaubeat 02. FPS - Bad Habits // Dataworx Digital 03. Gui Boratto - Haute Couture // Kompakt 04. Mauro Picotto - Flashing // Alchemy 05. Lützenkirchen - Paperboy (D-Nox & Beckers Remix) // Great Stuff 06. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Dousk Remix) // eVapour8 07. Fergie - Break-Out // Excentrik 08. Hatfield & Beckers - Keep On (Velkro & Ido Ophir Remix) // Sprout 09. Par Grindvik - Do Us Park (Len Faki Remix) // Drumcode 10. Sennh - I Am With You // Traum About DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records): I have been a DJ since 2002, and an Iboga Records label DJ since last winter, but electronic music already caught my interest back in the 80's, and I fell in love with psychedelic trance in 1997. I am a very dedicated and passionate at what I do, and I consider DJ'ing both an art form and a serious technical craft. That is why I try to constantly test my boundaries and always try to explore new sounds, without of course losing the feel for the nostalgic and emotional - good music never gets out of style. As a representative for Iboga my musical repertoire of course includes the latest and freshest progressive psychedelic trance, but I also have a love for more house-influenced sounds: from emotional and trance-influenced melodic progressive to phat electro house or deep, hypnotic minimal, tech house or techno. At the right time and setting, I also like to play full on morning sounds, and I also very much enjoy chillout and downbeat-sets, as I see them as both very challenging and independent of the boundaries of the dancefloor. I take an honor in never limiting myself to just one particular sub-sub-sub-genre of music: to me, a good set should not only be about playing 20 similar-sounding dancefloor "killers" in a row - it should be a journey: evolving, influencing the listener and moving through different emotions and soundscapes, dependant on the setting, time and crowd. That is my main motivation to keep on playing - to create and be a part of those magic moments on the dancefloor where you just surrender to the music, and let it lead the way. Over the years I have played at some of the best clubs and venues all over Denmark, plus in countries like England, Turkey and Germany. This for instance includes these festivals: • Scandinavian Electronic Music Festival 2004, Denmark • Middle Earth Festival 2005 & 2007, Denmark • Soulclipse Total Solar Eclipse Festival 2006, Turkey • :in:deep:an:dance: Festival 2006, Germany • Naked Festival 2006, Germany This upcoming summer I am also already booked for two German festivals, namely Liquid Time (and another one to be announced), as well as the Danish Copenhagen Electronic Carnival '08 and Fragmental Festival. 5. Psykovsky is some of the only dark psy I like. Yes, it's intense but also deep, melodic and many times also melancholic - not just a random series of cats in a blender noises like most dark psy.
  6. The Zen Mechanics and Headroom albums. Some of the best full on I've heard in a long while.

  10. I prefer "Xpander" over "Baja", and "Bloodlock", "Magnetic North", "Cloud Cuckoo" and "Wavy Gravy" are my favourites from "Airdrawndagger". Possibly one of my favourite electronic albums ever by the way. Some of his new stuff is great as well. Especially "Coma", "Park It In The Shade" and "Who Killed Sparky?"
  11. Artist: Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir Title: Shnorkel Label: eVapour8 Format: 12"/Digital Released: April 2008 Review: The full on scene has recently spawned a lot of new techno/tech house talents. One of the first to make the change was Freakulizer who is now also known as Khainz and other artists who have made the change include Wrecked Machines, now a part of Velkro and Hujaboy, now known as Jab. Former Domestic member Miki Litvak was one of the first to make the change though with his involvement in Elegant Universe, and on "Shnorkel" he is back with his old partner in crime Ido Ophir, who is now the single member of Domestic. "Shnorkel" is the first release from eVapour8 - the new tech house/techno sidelabel for Vapour Records, run by one of Australia's finest DJ's, Kasey Taylor. 01. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel [127 BPM] The original mix is written by the two original members of Domestic, Miki Litvak and Ido Ophir from Israel, and it's one badass dancefloor tune. It's very energetic and raw with some truly amazing breakdowns and a bass that is mean as hell. Major major dancefloor potential in this tune, and one we'll all hear a lot this summer. 02. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Dousk Remix) [127 BPM] Greeces best export, Dousk. has been a favourite of mine for some years, with memorable releases on labels like Vapour, Klik, Bedrock, Baroque, Audio Therapy and Lost Language, and his interpretation of the already stunning original is even better. It's not quite as raw as the original, and even though it's a bit more clean and optimistic with some extra added pads, it's still very energetic and dancefloor minded. Another possible summer-hit. 03. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Fiord Remix) [127 BPM] Antix' sideproject Fiord is up next with their remix, and it almost lives up to the high quality of the first two mixes. I especially like the progression in this version, where it flawlessly moves from trendy, laidback tech house to more banging big-room techno towards the end. One of the best tracks coming from the Strom brothers' studio in quite a while. 04. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Jamie Stevens Tech Dub) [127 BPM] Jamie Stevens is left with almost impossible task to live up to the first three mixes, and he does a fairly good job. The Aussie producer of Infusion fame keeps some of the dirty, techy edge from the original, but in a much more stripped-down, club-friendly kind of way. The least impressive of the three mixes, but a good tune in its own right. Bottom line: Well, I can hardly imagine a better release for Kasey Taylor to start out his new label eVapour8 - the original is a big, big tune certainly not for the faint-hearted, and all three mixes have high quality as well, with Dousk and Fiords versions standing out. If you're into the techno/tech house sound, this release is one of the must-haves of the season. Favourites: 1 (!!), 2 (!!), 3. Verdict: 9/10 Links: http://www.myspace.com/mikilitvak http://www.myspace.com/idoophir http://www.myspace.com/kaseytaylorvapour http://www.myspace.com/dousk http://www.myspace.com/fiordnz http://www.myspace.com/infusion
  12. Artist: Zen Mechanics Title: Holy Cities Label: Neurobiotic Format: CD Released: April 2008 Review: If you've been a guest at one of the major psychedelic trance festivals in the last couple of years, chances are pretty good that you've encountered a liveset from Zen Mechanics. Zen Mechanics is the solo project of Wouter Thomassen, the most well known Dutch psytrance artist at the moment, and a name in high demand world wide. His first release was back in 2004, and since then he has been made quite an impact on the scene, with releases ranging from blissful chillout on Aleph Zero, progressive psytrance on Iboga and Flow to high tech full on on some of the major players like Neurobiotic, Nano and Alchemy. Now, over 4 years after his first release, and after having performed on some of the world's hot spot dancefloors like Boom, Universo Paralello, Glade, Sonica, Solstice and Rainbow Serpent, he is ready with the debut album "Holy Cities", released on Edoardos label Neurobiotic Records. 01. Zen Mechanics - Modified [140 BPM] The album starts out with the 10 minute long "Modified". As expected there is a rather long and very nice intro, before a female voice-sample says "Hello" and the bassline kicks in. A bit harder and more serious track than I had imagined to start out the album, but nevertheless a really good one - will undoubtedly be one of the most played tracks of the album. 02. Zen Mechanics & Allaby - Immerse [140 BPM] Up next is a collaboration with one of my absolute favourite full on producers in later years, Matt Allaby. "Immerse" is a nice mixture between Allabys subtle, underplayed melodic universe and Zen Mechanics more crowd-pleasing full on style, and the result is among the best on the entire album. Despite the pounding bassline it never feels in your face obnoxious, and the overall atmosphere is very dreamy in an almost melancholic way. This in some way reminds of misty outdoor parties, when the sun is just about to break through for the first time. Lovely and elegant tune. 03. Zen Mechanics - Mecha [140 BPM] The intensity is kicked back up a notch on "Mecha". It's a typical high tech Zen Mechanics tune, with clever break-arrangements and a beautiful almost oldschool psytrance-style melodic breakdown that'll do wonders when played at the first rays of sunlight on an outdoor dancefloor. 04. Zen Mechanics - Off The Grid [142 BPM] I believe the original title for the album was "Off The Grid", and this aptly titled tune could have been a good title-track. The atmosphere is sort of metallic or industrial, with some excellent floating pads thrown in for good measure. The best part in the track though is the main breakdown, where Wouter shows some proper breakbeat-talent. 05. Zen Mechanics - Industry Of Love [144 BPM] The most distinct feature about "Industry Of Love" is the voice-sample (heard before in Talamascas "Speaking Robot" if I'm not mistaken) towards the end. The melodies aren't quite as deep and subtle as some of the previous tracks, and the track generally has more groove, take-offs and stomping dancefloor appeal. Not the strongest track on the album, but still good. 06. Zen Mechanics & Headroom - CBR [144 BPM] South African producer Adam Metcalfe aka Headroom joins Zen Mechanics on "CBR", and for most part it is a massive combo. The groove in this one goes straight to your feet and the voice-samples are very well-chosen, but unfortunately the melodies become a bit too stressful along the way for my taste. Could have been among my favourites - it loses me a couple of times, but I can imagine it'll be one of the DJ-favourites this summer. 07. Zen Mechanics - Vale De Lua As an interlude before the last few dancefloor tracks, the feet are given a rest with the chillout track "Vale De Lua". This is neither his first or last encounter with downbeat, as he has previously released on Aleph Zero, and he has a new purely downbeat project called Transmissions in Bloom. Judging by this track and the release on Aleph Zero we can expect some great things - lovely sort-of-ethnic-sort-of-modern chillout with a nice rainforest atmosphere and some great breakbeat grooves. 08. Zen Mechanics - Ground Control V.2 [136 BPM] Back in 2005 Zen Mechanics released his first progressive track - the track was called "Ground Control", it was released on Iboga, and it turned out to become a small hit and afterwards also licensed to labels like Yellow Sunshine Explosion and Waldfrieden Events. Now here's a new, updated version. The main features are still the same, with the characteristic voice-sample playing a big role once again, but overall the production is much more up to todays standards, and the semi-full on bassline and drive has been given a bit more punch. Great track. 09. Zen Mechanics - Holy Cities [136 BPM] Finishing the album is the title-track "Holy Cities". I had it some time prior to the release, and have used it for great effect at a couple of occasions - the style is again semi full on, semi progressive trance - the fact that the speed is lowered to 136 BPM makes it more suitable for the midday, and I consider it something of a nice, uplifting outdoor anthem. Great closer for the album. Bottom line: In today's over flooded market of full on music, its rare to see artists waiting four years after their debut to release their first album. Maybe more should follow Wouter's example - compared to most new albums on the morning full on market, "Holy Cities" is a very mature album, with very high quality crisp production, a well-composed flow and enough variety to even appeal to some of the most picky progressive psytrance heads. Make no mistake though - this is dancefloor music, and this album isn't going to change the world, but it certainly has more potential than the average full on album, which contains a couple of good or decent tracks, while the rest are fillers. The quality is consistent here, and this is much more than just DJ material. Well done. Recommended release. Favourites: 1, 2(!!), 3, 4, 8(!!), 9 Verdict: 8/10 Link: http://www.neurobiotic.com http://www.myspace.com/zenmechanics http://www.myspace.com/neurobiotic
