  2. Artist: Various Title: Synthetic Chronicles - compiled by Silicon Sound Label: Neurobiotic Format: CD/MP3 Released: November Review: While we're still waiting for his long-awaited 2nd album, French producer Johannes Regnier aka Silicon Sound has put together a new compilation for the Italian label Neurobiotic Records. Managed by DJ Edoardo, Neurobiotic Records has existed since 2001 and has for years been considered one of the top full on labels, and Silicon Sounds "Synthetic Chronicles" is the labels' 24th CD-release, focusing almost solely on French artists. 01. Antix - Little Honey (Silicon Sound Remix) [130 BPM] The first track is from Silicon Sound himself. Despite being known as a full on producer, he has also made some interesting experiments with progressive/electro house in the last couple of years, and this remix for Antix's classic "Little Honey" from their "Twin Coast Discovery" album is in the same vein. The characteristic voices and melodies from the original are still very present, and added is a more pumping bassline and some Silicon Sound trademark sounds to give it a more trancy feel. Good opener. 02. Even 11 & Blue Planet Corporation - City Slickers [130 BPM] Next up is a very interesting collaboration between some of Frances most legendary trance-producers; Silicon Sound and Jaïa as Even 11 and Blue Planet Corporation. "City Slickers" keeps the steady proggy/electro pace as the opening track, and using a simple but very effective offbeat electro-bassline the track keeps on pumping until we're treated with some really classy, larger-than-life pads, melodies and guitar-like effects. Big tune. 03. Silicon Sound feat. Jaïa - Passengers (Voyager Remix) [142 BPM] The tempo is raised by Voyager, the new solo-project by Thomas Dubreuill from Altöm, and his contribution to the compilation is a remix for "Passengers" by Silicon Sound and Jaïa, originally released on "Digital Performers" from Exposure Productions back in 2005. Apart from a new melody-line towards the end and a more pumping and clean production, this remix is very close to the already amazing original version - surely a good track on its own, but not a very original interpretation. 04. Silicon Sound feat. DJ Psychotrop - Hyperion [142 BPM] On "Hyperion" Silicon Sound collaborates with the French Neurobiotic label-DJ Psychotrop. They also collaborated on the "Sonica" compilation a few years ago with the splendid track "Preparing For Departure", and once again the result of their studio-work is of very high quality. After an atmospheric intro the track chugs along in a sort of progressive full on way for a few minutes, until the listener is shot into hyperspace with one of the best full on breakdowns I've heard in a very long while. With some truly stunning Vangelis-like pads Silicon Sound again proves that he's among the very best morning full on producers around. Epic track. 05. Polaris - Tribal Quest [144 BPM] Arnauld Stengel aka Polaris takes over with the fastest track on the compilation, "Tribal Quest". He recently released his 2nd album "Deep The Drum" (also on Neurobiotic), and "Tribal Quest" is somewhat in the same vein, although I think it is better than most of the stuff from that album. Clean production and bright, euphoric yet never obnoxious sounds is what Polaris is well-known for, and even though I could have preferred this track with some elements to make it really stand out. I still find it quite good. 06. Tristan - Dream Machine [142 BPM] The English trance-pioneer Tristan is the only non-French artist appearing on the compilation, and his contribution is an odd one. "Dream Machine" is from his last album "Chemisphere", and although I find it a great, outdoor-minded festival-friendly and positive track, I can't help to feel that the space on this CD could have been used better on a new track, than on a track that was already released 1½ year ago. 07. Liquid Soul - Unannounced Portal (Side-A Remix) [133 BPM] It's been a while since we heard something new from Side-A, but here he is with a good remix for "Unannounced Portal" from Liquid Souls first album. After 4 full on tracks the tempo is once again more laidback, with a mix of progressive trance and progressive/electro house. His version of "Unannounced Portal" is quite different from the original and the mix of big trance-like melodies and house-styled groove is really appealing to me. Good tune for both the clubs and outdoor afternoon sets. 08. Jaïa - Fragile [130 BPM] "Fragile" was a tune I was really looking forward to beforehand as Jaïa holds a special place in my heart as I've been a fan since his releases in the 90's, but frankly I was a bit disappointed. The sound is like always top-notch, but despite this and some excellent voice-sample-work the track seems to go nowhere. 09. Blue Planet Corporation - Tekno Sun [130 BPM] To finish of the compilation is the track "Tekno Sun" by French legend Blue Planet Corporation. After the first couple of listens I found it a bit odd, but after repeated listens I must say it's a really good closing track - laidback, very atmospheric in a retrospective way and with some hints of oldschool trance here and there. Very charming tune. Bottom line: Despite that "Synthetic Chronicles" doesn't reach the same high quality as "Neo::Caine", it has some really outstanding highlights, and generally the mix of morning full on and progressive trance/house works really well. The compilation proves both that progressive/electro house can have epic trance-like qualities, and that morning full on can be both energetic and melodic without being totally over the top cheesy or obnoxious. In a year where they also released the great Zen Mechanics debut-album, Neurobiotic Records has once again put a very noteworthy release on the market. Now bring on the Silicon Sound album! 7. Artist: Quantize Title: Time Label: Iboga Records Cat number: IbogaCD61 Format: CD Release date: November 2008 Distribution: Psyshop Release information: Iboga Records presents the debut album from the Israeli duo Quantize. Reshef Harari and Adi Ashkenazi is behind the ambitious project aiming to conquer the global stage with their crunchy pumping progressive trance music. The boys have created a style and an expression, which is rarely found in such a high quality as this album represents. Quantize has previously released music with Domo records for whom they in 2007 compiled the CD “Stepping forward”. Blue Tunes Records had the pleasure to release the lovely Womanizer remix from early 2008. Also in 2008 a digital download EP was released on Iboga with the track skywalker along a remix by Virb and Padd (ex Frogacult). A track which also was featured on the iboga compilation Set:8 Electronic ballroom. Quantize has also written a marvellous remix of the Ace Ventura / Intelabeam effort “The john”, due out on Iboga at the autumn of 2008. On the album the boys have on three tracks collaborated with some fellow countrymen, namely BLT (who just released his new album with his main project Perfect Stranger) and Ace ventura as well as O-Grinker. Get ready for some serious and super well produced progressive Psy-trance from Quantize and Iboga Records! Tracklist: 01. Tricks Of Light 02. 2012 03. High Frequency (with Ace Ventura) 04. 8. Great to see. One of the best morning trance producers in my opinion.
  9. Taste. I've met some really stupid and narrowminded people, who are big psytrance lovers.

  14. Artist: Ace Ventura Title: Re:Boot Label: Iboga Records Cat number: IbogaCD60 Format: Double CD Release date: October 2008 - digital download one month later Distribution: Psyshop Release information: It's been some amazing years for Yoni Oshrat. When we released his debut tune as Ace Ventura, "Cardiac Arrest" back in 2005 it was indisputable that the Psysex-member had big potential, but no one could have imagined that he could have made it so far, resulting in bookings virtually all over the world: from Mexico, USA and Brazil to Japan, Australia, Germany and the UK, including all the major festivals like Boom, Universo Paralello, Tribe, Solstice Music Festival, Glade, Sonica, Full Moon, Tshitraka and Antaris. Now, one year after the release of his now-classic debut-album "Rebirth", we're very proud to announce one of the biggest progressive releases of the year - the double-disc follow-up remix album "Re:Boot". The first CD starts out with a brand new Ace Ventura remix for "Morning Blues" from Perfect Strangers first album, and from then on the CD have a solid selection of hand-picked progressive trance remixes - from the crisp sounds of Iboga Records regulars like Gaudium and Liquid Soul, to massive dancefloor tunes by the likes of Sensient and Zen Mechanics and outdoor grooves by Quantize, Aerospace and XV Kilist & Rocco. The second CD follows some of the current trends and gives us a taste of the future of progressive trance. Some of the progressive/techno scenes biggest maestros have reworked some of the classical Ace Ventura material into some seriously lethal lower-BPM goodies - from phat dancefloor material by Khainz, Shadow FX vs Interpulse and Duca to progressive house by Rocky and AstroNivo as well as classy psychedelic techno by Perfect Stranger and Fiord - all finished with an elegant tecnoid downbeat remix by Bluetech. Tracklist CD1: 01. Perfect Stranger - Morning Blues (Ace Ventura Remix) 02. Ace Ventura - M.A.R.S (Gaudium Remix) 03. Ace Ventura - Presence (Motion Drive Remix) 04. Ace Ventura & Liquid Soul - Psychic Experience (Aerospace Remix) 05. Ace Ventura - Sao Paulo (Sensient Remix) 06. Ace Ventura & Intelabeam - The John (Quantize remix) 07. 15. Artist: Perfect Stranger Title: Free Cloud Label: Iboga Records Cat number: IbogaCD59 Format: CD Release date: October 2008 Distribution: Psyshop Release information: In today's electronic music scene, you don't come out with a sixth album unless your stature as an artist is outstanding. Unless you have something different to say, in an original voice that nonetheless speaks to an ever-growing audience. Such is the music of Perfect Stranger. From his early years - and Yuli Fershtat is indeed a pioneer - he's been committed to his love for Trance, which is as dance as music gets. But a generic label would not do justice to the depth of his heartfelt music, which transposes feelings from across the wide range of human emotions. In this new album you'll find tracks inspired by the bliss of sunbeams, by an ironic yet candid take on the simple pleasures of life, or by the darker side of the self. His demanding standards regarding what our man qualifies as the "art" of sound have led him to appropriate today's trend, undoubtedly Techno, which he also DJs with a rare understanding and acute intelligence. This new album presents the latest development of his music that has never failed to embody zeitgeist, while uncompromisingly expressing his personal sensibility with contained lyricism and a sense of the epic. Savour Free Cloud, this album is set to become a classic! Tracklist: 01. Clear Vision 07 02. Stardust 03. Simple Cells 04. Sweet Water Dolphin 05. Easy 06. Free Cloud 07. No.1 08. 16. Artist: Interpulse Title: Transcender EP Label: Open Records Format: Digital Released: September 2008 Review: The young Australian label Open Records have already made a positive impression in the minds of many progressive heads with their two compilations "Slow-Release" and "Festivus" as well as some good MP3-releases with artists like Fiord and D-Sens. The latest release is from a new Australian project called Interpulse - behind the project is Richie Katsu, one half of the now former Australian psychedelic trance duo Mantrix which have a long series of albums and appearances on labels like Sub Records, Fabula Records, Psy-Harmonics and Green Ant Productions behind them. 01. Interpulse - Transcender [126 BPM] First up is the title-track "Transcender", and from the first listen this just oozes high quality. Despite the relatively low BPM the big bassline here just pounds away like a proggy express-train, oldschool-progressive trance sweeps giving the right psyproggy vibe and nicely placed and never too over the top techno-influences. In a progressive psytrance scene flooded with mediocre boring same-old offbeat-bass tracks, it's refreshing with a dancefloor-minded track under the 130 BPM mark that blends proper oldschool progressive psytrance and techno. Outstanding. 02. Interpulse - On A Peg [126 BPM] "On A Peg" is a bit more on the mellow side compared "Transcender" - the groove is still full on-prog, but with a less distinct bass and I think this can best be described as a slightly uplifting morning/afternoon tune. Not quite as memorable as "Transcender", but with some nice and elegant melodic touches. 03. Interpulse - Open Channel [126 BPM] Last track on the release is "Open Channel", and here we're treated with a wonderful and very loveable morning/sunset tune. The start is more laidback than in the first two tracks, but the melodies and atmosphere more than make up for that. At first it reminds me of Antix in their "Twin Coast Discovery" days, but with a very classy melodic finale it goes even more full on again, with melodies that give associations to some older scando-trance. Splendid. Bottom line: I've listened to "Transcender" a lot over the last few weeks, and I can safely say that this release is one of the best progressive trance EP's I've heard this year. The style is fusion of tribal, outdoor-minded progressive trance and some techno elements and the variety is really good, with "Transcender" as the monstrous festival-tune, "Open Channel" as the deep and melancholic part of the release and "On A Peg" somewhere in between. Highly recommended. Favourites: 1 (!!), 3 (!) Verdict: 9/10 Links: Open Records website: http://www.open-records.net Open Records Myspce: http://www.myspace.com/openrecordsaustralia Interpulse Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/interpulse
  17. Artist: D-Nox & Beckers Title: Beefcake Label: Sprout Format: Digital Released: September 2008 Review: Christian Wedekind and Frank Beckers. Mention these names, and every progressive/tech house lover will probably know that you're referring to the dynamic production-duo D-Nox & Beckers. With an extremely busy booking-schedule and a discography including releases on progressive trance labels like Iboga Records and Flow to major house players like Baroque, Great Stuff, Vapour and Electribe as well as licensing tracks and remixes to mainstream labels like Global Underground and Ministry of Sound, there's no doubt that these guys appeal to the mass-market, yet still staying true to their roots. "Beefcake" is their newest release on D-Nox's own label Sprout, which has had some success since the launch over 5 years ago, and on the remix-duty are King Roc and Lemon Popsicle. 01. D-Nox & Beckers - Beefcake [127 BPM] The original track "Beefcake" is yet another solid D-Nox & Bekers high-roller. Like so many other times before from D-Nox & Beckers, this is an optimistic mix of funk and big dancefloor grooves. Some twisted horns give the track a nice wobbly effect, and the trendy tech-breakdown works very very well. This tune just oozes with outdoor beach-party vibe. 02. D-Nox & Beckers - Beefcake (King Roc Remix) [125 BPM] The first remix is by the UK act King Roc, consisting of Martin Dawson, who has had some success with his diverse repertoire of music, ranging from techno to trip hop - releasing tunes on labels like Dessous, Four:Twenty, Anjunabeats, Buzzin' Fly and his own label Mutual Society. His remix of "Beefcake" is more housey in the traditional sense, isn't quite as energetic as the original but has an even more uplifting vibe and with a nice touch of carnival-atmosphere. 03. D-Nox & Beckers - Beefcake (Lemon Popsicle Remix) [127 BPM] Lemon Popsicle is a new and unknown artist to me, and an artist who only have a few releases out so far, with one of them being on the Italian label Rebirth. His remix starts out as the most stripped-down and dirty of the three versions, but slowly get more and more jackin' after the main breakdown. Nice, slightly techier rework. Bottom line: As expected, "Beefcake" is yet another good release from one of my favourite labels around at the moment. All three versions are recommendable, but some might also say slightly too similar. Don't expect banging tech or minimal peak-time party material, but if you're into some good, wholesome sunny outdoor grooves this release is a sure winner - with the D-Nox & Beckers original standing out. A shame that the European summer is over... Favourites: 1 Verdict: 7/10 Links: http://www.sproutmusic.de http://www.myspace.com/frankbeckers http://www.myspace.com/djdnox
  18. There's MUCH more than 5-6 psytrance-parties a year - even more than 5-6 parties a month. Check out the partylists at sites like electrobeat.dk and trancetunnel.dk, and you will see that there are indeed many parties. The quality is quite low though in my opinion.
  19. Artist: Liquid Soul Title: Global Illumination Label: Iboga Digital Format: Digital Catalog: IbogaDigital28 Release date: Out now Buy here: https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content...uid_soul_single Release information: Nicola Capobianco is one of the best when it comes to enchanting a dancefloor with progressive psytrance vibes. Since his first release as Liquid Soul back in 2003 he has been in high demand at festivals around the globe, such as Boom, Universo Paralello, VooV and Tshitraka, and his debut album on Iboga Records "Synthetic Vibes" back in 2005 was a huge success. Since then a lot has happened, for instance he is also received great feedback with his two newer projects Earsugar (together with DJ Martin) and Sleek. In a few weeks time we at Iboga Records are proud to release the second Liquid Soul album "Love In Stereo", but for the impatient we have this very interesting digital-only EP. On the EP you can find the track "Global Illumination", which is a teaser for the new album, alongside a remix for "The Source" from the first album, by the Swedish act Gaudium. 22. Artist: Perfect Stranger Title: Clear Vision 07 EP Label: Iboga Digital Format: Digital Catalog: IbogaDigital37 Release date: Early September 2008 Release information: Calling Yuli Fershtat a pioneer in the Israeli electronic music scene would certainly not be an overstatement. He has been producing music for over a decade, and with his first project BLT he was regarded one of the top psychedelic trance producers, with releases on labels like HOM-Mega, Balloonia, Krembo, Hadshot and Transient under his belt. All things evolve though, and so does Yuli - in 2005 we had the honor of releasing his first track as Perfect Stranger, and since then he has been a huge influence on the progressive scene, and a pioneer for the new wave of progressive artists coming from Israel. With his unique blend of tribal, progressive house and psychedelic trance elements he has built a solid reputation as one of the most highly respected progressive producers and his latest development is towards a more minimal techno sound - without ever losing the touch for the psychedelic and atmospheric. On this 3-track EP you can find his newest creation, Clear Vision 07 - a taster for his upcoming album, coming out on Iboga Records. Also featured is an amazing, deep remix by the Strom brothers Fiord (also known as Antix), as well as "Whats The Lineup" - a classic Perfect Stranger tune. Tracklist: 01. Clear Vision 07 02. 23. Haven't heard of most of those artists, but the original tracks were really good. Actually Protonica is one of my favourite trance-acts at the moment, and both in 2007 and 2008 their liveset was one of the highlight-sets at Full Moon. Pure uplifting progressive psytrance, just as back in the day with artists like Human Blue, S>Range and Matenda.
  24. It's a part of a series of CD's released on Phonokol - all with equally cheesy covers. I'm guessing he didn't have much to do with the making of the cover. Some absolutely amazing tracks on that CD by the way.
