  3. Artist: Ephedra Title: What The Future Brings Label: Goa Madness Records Release: May 18, 2018 Tracklist: - 1. In Search Of Flying Saucers 2. Flying Into The Night 3. Twisted Keys 4. Machiavellin? 5. Savannah Monk Trail (Ephedra & Imba) 6. Cosmic Collaboration (Proxeeus & Ephedra) 7. Return To the N Life 8. Deep inside Feelings 9. Floating Souls Ok whats going with you bunch? Triquetra, Morphic Resonance, Sab Kuch, Lectro Spectral, Geomagnetic/Timewarp comps and the rest of the 2018 release gang (you're all great) and now Ephedra. You graduate from middle school? Finally got yourselves real jobs? Get yourselves married? Have a couple of kids? Cause 2018 has been a year of mature music. A year of well thought out, technical bangers that have got me hitting puberty. Now Ephedra comes in to bring to add a little extra flavour. To show that the big boys know when to hold back till just the right point, when to build but not explode, when to reserve their tracks to create anticipation, when to just make nice sounds and not stress about all the hooha. 2018 got us all grown up. In search of Flying Saucers - UFO's. mystery. space. aliens. New Mexico the home of the Roadrunner. The kick Is hot the leads are perfectly reserved coming in and out but never to insane. This is the patience Im talking about. A really really good track. Flying Into The Night - a little break beat introduces us into spacier and faster feeling track. The leads twirl and slice away in the back, being brought forward at perfect moments as the rest of the track balances out. The melody is infectious as its shot at you over and over again. The track is pure hyperspace listening material, put it on and before you know it you’ve reached galaxy NGC 7320 All Aboard Twisted Keys - we don’t slow down here, a short moody intro keeps the journey rolling. Little tribal drum taps in the background are beat out with the lightest of fingers before leads takes centre stage & zip us away. Once again Ephedra balances the elements and layers out with exquisite grace. Nothing in this song is monotoned & just as you think the frenzy has ended Ephedra takes it up a notch and finishes with some great knob fiddles. Machiavellian - Ah señor Niccolò, the espouser of the old greek and roman value systems as well as the man that had the personality trait of deceit, self interest and manipulation named after him. The only manipulation in this song is that of Ephedra’s tools over your brain. Ephedra darkens things up a bit while keeping a coherent flow throughout the song. A perfect track for workplace craftiness, backstabbing a trusted confidant and dancing in any dark location of your picking. Epehdra & Imba - Savannah Monk Trail - Love the choral vocals and the drums in the intro. Another cool baseline and kick combo then takes us off to a happier place where elastic leads extend in and out. More squelches, an elephant and tribal chants set this track apart from the others. Imba and Ephedra’s mojo works in fine balance with each other, proven as the track increases in intensity from start to finish. A fav Ephedra and Proxeeus, Cosmic Collaboration - I gotta say I was excited when I saw these two together on a track, even more so the the title suggested that these two came up with some sweet sweet hallucinogenic Himalayan Cliff Bee Mad honey for us all to sip on. They did, much more melodic than I expected while still completely psychedelic and of course totally banging, another welcome and successful combination of talent. Return to the N Life - A title that would also work well for an Ice Cube album, Return to the N life takes us back into the land of classic ephedra. Another mature track that despite not really standing out I would still play at any party, yea even my nephews 6th birthday party. Once again Ephedra shows a lot of skill with his instruments and thought in production. Deep Inside Feelings - Ephedra gets all sentimental and opens up his electrifying feelings to us. I love when he strips the baseline away, a metaphor for his struggle to balance an minimalist life with the pressure to succeed (I don’t know, sounds cool though). The song is hot hot hot but nothing prepares you for whats next. Floating souls - The closing track. What's it gonna be? Which way will he take this? Many questions and only one answer. Ecstasy. Ephedra takes us away from all earthly feelings and into a land of the beyond. I don’t know exactly what it is….Yes I do, the intensity, leads, melody, dreamy floatiness and all the other things that make Goa trance just so incredible. This goes up there with Experiments into some of my favourite Goa trance tracks of all time. That’s that, what I will call a perfectly balanced album. This is by far my favourite Ephedra album, the patience in the track development all the way to the actual track development really stand out here. It’s a skill that comes with experience and with 3 albums under his belt it seems like Ephedra is getting plenty of that. Like all good middle school graduations, Ephedra has matured his sound into something completely delightful for the ears. Big shout out to Goa Madness for their support of great artists and 3 big blasting Ephedra albums. https://goamadnessrecords.bandcamp.com
  4. Artist: VA Title: Dimensional Gateway 5 Label: Neogoa Records Date: December 2017 Tracklist:- 01 - Sun Sith - Arrival 02 - BlackStarrFinale - The Scattering 03 - Lectro Spektral Daze - I Ate Seven Of Them 04 - Xamanist - Star Forming Galaxy 05 - Maan - Field Quanta 06 - Third Eye Channel - Katarza 07 - Proxeeus - Nyarlathotep [Short Mix] 08 - Dragon Twins - Shattered Sense 09 - Negan - Wäwära Well wowie, If ever a compilation could fit into the theme of 2017 (Quality over quantity) this is it. Neogoa Records have released their 5th in a series of Dimensional Gateways. Unlike the dark portals of this world, defined by stability and assurance, dimensional gateways are like tunnels bored with unstable magic that can lead to bliss, new worlds or eternal imprisonment. One thing is for sure, the gateways will always be a journey. As a newbie to the genre it would be foolish of me to say something like ‘This has been quite the year for Goa’ But i’m young and foolish so. This has been quite the year for Goa. We’ve seen some pretty remarkable releases that have been top notch in terms of either production, originality, or nostalgia. While the review section for 2017 has been pretty empty most of what is here is gold. Sun Sith: … Holy shit. Sun Sith are Lunar Dawns Kristijan Ilisinovic and Sasa Precanica. Two lifelong friends who have dedicated themselves to absolutely blowing our minds with music. This has gotta be the darkest work of theirs. And i’m going to peg it as the track of the year. Blackstarfinale: Oh no, how is this melody going to work? Am i about to listen to pure aged chedder? Nope, you better not believe it. The scattering is a mix of uplifting twisted chopped and screwed bliss. Pretty freaking awesome how they work this track. Lectrop Spektral Daze: Yea you did LSD, you ate more than seven didn’t you? You ate a whole bag! Whats that? Only seven per bag? Oh well yea, you ate seven then congratulations! Some of us are too busy studying to just go and eat shrooms in Mexico. Great track, if you like drug references in your songs you’ll like this. Also if you like good songs, well this is one for you my friend. Beautiful beautiful track. Xamanist - Star Forming Galaxy: Every now and then i come across a track on a comp that makes me wonder why i passed that artists album up when i came across it. Progressive trance must have been the flavour of the month when i came across 7, but I tell ya, i’m going back to right my wrongs right after this review. A banging track and another one of my favourites. Aaaaah i love rolling basslines. Maan - Field Quanta: A nice driving bit of trance that starts with subtle bits of acid getting tossed around, easy to dance to though not the most unique track floating around with not much to differentiate it from other producers. The builds are all pretty fun though. Instead of leading to explosions of hysteria they end in slightly disappointing returns to the bassline. Katarza - Third Eye Channel: A less exciting track that gets points for being trippy, though without endless amounts of energy pulsing through it. More of a floating track then an arm flail enducing stomper. Instead of keeping your attention with hard melodies Katara mixes the beat up by skipping kicks and messing around with the basslines. Dragon Twins - Shattered Sense: Some spooky throat noises (Singing? chanting?) starts our journey into what is a remarkable track. The melody is insane, but then it disappears? I could have easily had another 6 minutes of that penetrating my cranium. Man i’m bitter about that, the lead was incredible. I guess that’s how some stories go. Proxeeus - Nyarlathotep (Short mix): We are lucky it’s easier to dance to Proxeeus’ tracks than pronounce them. Everytime i try I end up with a deep and very bad Estonian accent... The track is what you would expect from this wizard, awesomeness. Edit: Holy heck Proxeeus! That final 1.5 minutes. Negan - Warawa: Whats that? Fun basslines? Negan (Did Negans lose part of himself) has got us covered. The track is madness from start to finish, the acid lines are all over the place in the best of ways. Hare Krishna would have indeed been a bad boy. And we made it out the other side. Dimensional Gateways aren't so bad are they, 5 down and we are still kicking. I'm starting to think these things are more stable than i've been told. Wizards and their bullshit friends, just like politicians. https://neogoarecords.bandcamp.com/album/dimensional-gateway-5

    VA - Lusadelic

Artist: Various artists Title: Lusadelic Label: Woorpz Records Date: 2017, June 9 01. Tryambaka Tryambaka - Underverse 02. Alienn - Gotcha 03. Zinx - Personal Chaos 04. D_Maniac - Unbroken Tradition Unbroken Tradition 05. Lost In Space - Haunted By The Phantasm 06. Demosys - I Can See Sound 07. Juggling - Out Of The Box 08. Myrah - Pink Happiness 09. Psilocybe Project - Mass Media HappyHorse said it best when he said 'Good full-on exists' On that note Woorpz records presents Lusadelic. This compilation is designed for dance floors and those of us that like hard pounding beats, crazy leads and strong acid (synths that is). I'm just going to call this psytrance since it is not... and let me be clear... it is not, like other full-on that i've heard. On that note I have a little Portuguese something something for us all. D-maniac has compiled a list of all Portuguese artists and thrown it onto this compilation which is pretty hot...for your information. The compilation contains a bunch of banger's worth checking out, my favourite of which being - Personal Chaos, Underverse and Pink Happiness. Although not being easy to listen through from start to finish (Lacks variety) I don't think it was designed for such. The first half is probably the most exciting purely because You don't grow bored until about track 6. Luckily Myrah has a unique enough style to offer a fresh breath of air. I would not recommend listening to this one through and through. Take your time, play a few tracks here and there. Relax. Dance. Be free. All in all some good tracks here. Not my usual sub-genre but still A LOT of lead focused tracks going on and plenty of change ups within the songs. Each song has something individually, it's only the compilation as a whole that I would critique. 10/10 would recommend to fans of full-on. 7/10 for the rest of us who want a little something different in our ears. **Edit** I originally reviewed each song, but it didn't feel genuine, Full-on is hard to review individually so I changed it to the album as a whole as it was easier to vibe. https://woorpzrecords.bandcamp.com/album/lusadelic-compiled-by-d-maniac
  6. Artist: Various Title: Spirit of Goa Trance Vol. 2 Label: Fresh Frequencies Date: June, 2017 01. California Sunshine - Flying Eye Land (Remastered) (8:00) 02. Necton - Sliderglider (5:53) 03. Nova Fractal - Common Cold (Screwloose Remix) (8:06) 04. Omnivox - Silent Sweeper (9:35) 05. Trinodia - A11 (2013 Remix) (9:17) 06. Shakta - Lepton Head (Rigel Remix) (8:46) 07. Frost Raven - The Time Traveler (8:53) 08. Lectro Spektral Daze - Between Two and Twelve (9:21) 09. Nostromosis - Space Tribe Of Siberia (8:01) 10. 2Minds - Hindu (9:05) 11. PersiaVibe - Into The Space (7:16) 12. Radical Distortion - Radioastronomy (7:13) 13. Lucid Rainbow - Ebola (7:27) 14. OXI - Quasi Star (7:10) 15. Siam - Run to the Sun (7:23) 16. Judaika - First Encounter (9:22) 17. Psy-H Project - Precession of the Universe (Sonic Elysium Remix) (8:32) 18. Simply Wave - Insight (7:31) CAUTION: Spoilers ahead. Well let’s jump right in. This compilation is simply amazing. I’m still new to the scene and like lots of what i hear. However, the variety within this album is varied enough to keep you listening all week. None of the songs have particularly broody atmospheres (Not meaning they aren’t atmospheric) and they all have strong hard kicks (Still not sure how i feel about those floppy drawn out kicks. Fresh Frequencies are known for their progressive Goa compilations, the only one of which i've heard is their vol.3 2016 mix. The only other Goa they have released is of course vol.1 of this compilation set which I haven't heard but can only imagine is good. 01. California Sunshine - Flying Eye Land (Remastered) (8:00) - Cali Suns songs have a nice steady feel to them that seem to be hit and miss with me. This one was a miss. That being said it was a nice intro track into an album that gets better and better. 02. Necton - Sliderglider - A fun little track that is more than a little bit danceable. Plenty of bass, plenty of high hat builds and some lovely progression throughout the track. Considering what Fresh Frequencies normally deal with you can see why this made it on the comp. A nice addition at that. 03. Nova Fractal - Common Cold (Screwloose Remix) - I've never really given Nova a chance to blow my mind with his work nor have I heard the original track. Should I be reviewing a remix of a song I haven't heard before? (probably not) on it's own merit though This track is great, it's the right amount of crazy with plenty going on obviously done by someone with some serious skills. 04. Omnivox - Silent Sweeper - Omnivox jumps right into it. He takes you through a bunch of twists and turns expertly keeping you focused on the track which doesn't take long to take off. I wasn't a huge fan at first, maybe because it sounded familiar but his style has grown on me. No messing around, just that nice pounding Goa we all love. 05. Trinodia - A11 (2013 Remix) - One of my favourite track on the comp that has grown on me every time i listen to it. I haven't heard Trinodia before but damn this is a nice track. Slowly building up and up until it blows away your ego into the 21st dimension...Or something like that. 06. Shakta - Lepton Head (Rigel Remix) - A great bouncy track with a bouncy bassline that one could call repetitive if it wasn't so good. Another amazing track that doesn't give to much away to early. Every time you think he is going to drop a crazy melody he brings that sexy bassline back in until he finally lets you have it. 07. Frost Raven - The Time Traveler - Every compilation needs a squelchy zippy laser blaster of a song and this is it. I find some of the zips that come through a little repetitive and annoying, you have to try and not focus on them to much when they come through but hey! Who said travelling through time was going to sound pretty. Keep listening and the patience pays off and it all starts to make a bit more sense. 08. Lectro Spektral Daze - Between Two and Twelve - Look, not the best track on the album but also I can't find it within myself to dislike any Goa. It's all so good (I know right, I'm not really the right guy for a fair review). The track is nice enough and the world is still a better place for it. 09. Nostromosis - Space Tribe Of Siberia - Well well, Nostromosis doesn't waste any time giving you a taste of the melody that's about to be thrown at your face. What starts as a lush dreamy soundscape turns into a wild ride of sounds battling each other for dominance in this track. Then he does it. He gets a fist full of melody and aims right for you. It's a hit! and I love it. 10. 2Minds - Hindu - Oh baby! First of all I love a longer intro. Secondly I love a good bassline. Thirdly I find a lot of Goa producers opt out from any strong vocals, not 2minds. Fourthly...... Fuck it this whole track is great i like just about everything and while I wont mislead you into thinking this a vocal filled track (It's not) when they chanting does come in its good. Then that Scottish melody. For me it's a truly original track I haven't heard the likes of before. 11. PersiaVibe - Into The Space - PersiaVibe layers this track nicely with melodies coming up from underneath melodies almost perfectly. Another dreamy track that makes you feel like your doing floaty dances under the stars at 3 AM. 12. Radical Distortion - Radioastronomy - Mr Radical Distortion, my favourite producer from the Suncokreti comp, Radioastronomy reminds me why. Not the best track on the list but some good old relentless trance that makes you want to move. 13. Lucid Rainbow - Ebola - WHY! Why does the track have to end? I know it's all part of the master plan in making what is the second best track on the comp but i’d happily take a 20 minute version of Ebola. it's bouncy, it's jumpy, it's catchy. You've all been around a while, remember when you used to have melodies stuck in your head for days? weeks? years? This is that for me. 14. OXI - Quasi Star - Some strong pounding trance right into you is what you get with Quasi Star. I can see this being some people favourite track and I can see some people finding that they've heard it before. I dunno I reckon it's a great track worthy of any dancefloor. 15. Siam - Run to the Sun - Siam is Athenian John Pitsakis who hasn't been producing for as long as some of the names on the release. I might just say you can sooooort of tell. Not a bad track by any length but just feels like Siam is playing it safe. 16. Judaika - First Encounter - A nice acid filled symphony of sounds that bounces along beautifully. You get a reprieve from the acid here and there but not for long. 17. Psy-H Project - Precession of the Universe (Sonic Elysium Remix) - A track we might already be familiar with from Sonics Faster Stronger Higher album. My absolute favourite track on the release and an awesome remix of an already awesome song. Sonic E gives the track a bouncier feel (Dare I say more danceable than the original, which is saying a lot). The track doesn't lose steam one as it continues to progress into one non stop eargasm. 18. Simply Wave - Insight - As soon as Insight starts you know you in for a wild ride to finish this album out. No disappointment to be found here. A bit of an Artha sound if I do say so, but i'll take what I can get. The track is a banger and doesn't let up. Not. For. One. Moment. One of my favourites and another reason to get this compilation right this second. In summary, Stop wasting your time and get this compilations right now because if you do not get this right now then you are missing out on a big opportunity of beautiful fast pounding melodic goa that I know everyone on this website is going to find some good good within. You can't really compare this to the Mystery Worlds comp with the deep broody atmospheres, darker ambience and crazier twists and turns. I'd say more of a Legacy style Goa, a little lighter and way more dance oriented. 10/10 worth a listen Edit: - Links now added, sorry! https://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/frf/frf2cd025.html https://freshfrequencies.bandcamp.com/album/spirit-of-goa-trance-v2-frshcd025-fresh-frequencies

    Sirian - Havona

Artist: Sirian Title: Havona Label: Merkaba Music Released: March 20, 2017 Tracks: 1. Angelic Embrace 2. Alchemedium 3. Íonú 4. Keepers of the Garden 5. The Fabric of Stars 6. Aontacht Cosmal 7. Golden Love 8. Somnambulist 9. Stranger of the Forest Alrighty, so I found Sirian through Merkaba's music page, as usual it's hard to find any great info about so we will just jump right into the review. 1. Angelic Embrace starts of with a nice little intro some talk about dimensions and time all that jazz. some pretty instrumentals come through and we get our first feel for a baseline coming in. 2.41 minutes in we get the kick and a very groovy bassline. A nice little melody comes through as we are taken on a journey through musical dimensions. The track is pretty hot, not a straight banger but a good intro into whats to come with some original melodies. 5/8 2. Alchamedium starts with another groovy intro. We are getting some great ambient Goa influences throughout this track, a lil voilin, a lil fiddle. I can;t tell but it's a nice change. 6/8 3. Íonú brings us another nice instrumental intro, some flute and string come in leading us to a little vocal about visions. Dancing to this track is a sinch, got a very early morning feel to it. The kick does start to feel repetitive which I know is a weird critique for a Goa track. I think the use of real world sounds probably makes it more apparent. 2.20 - Wait a minute! We get a very nice melody come at us. Aaaand i'm proven wrong straight away there is actually nothing repetitive about this track. I could just delete that comment but i'm writing as I go so I'll leave the journey here for everyone to read. A very floaty track from Sirian with clear highs and lows. The end vocals are lovely. A track you can dance or sleep to i believe. 6/8 4. Keepers of the Garden follows what seems to be an album theme of floaty intro's and then hits us with the sexiest bassline of the album so far. It's hot guys and gals, real hot. We get some lasers and soft vocals before some instruments come in to take us away. The track transitions nicely from beginning to middle nothing super exciting to throw us off the direction it's gonna take but that's just a personal thing that i appreciate. A taste of electric guitar does however leave me hoping for more. The final ambient break leads into a burst of vocals and strings, the under tone of electronic sounds (I don't know my sounds well enough to tell you if it's acid lines or what not) but it's electronic subtetly is nice addition however, it does leave me thinking the album could do with a little more elctro influences. 7/8 5. The Fabric of Stars gets to business a little faster than the rest of the tracks so far. The flute over the kick is nice but lacking a little psychedelia. For those who love that ambi-unce i'm sure you'll like this track. Very fine-tuned and a little busier than the other tracks so far which is most certainly a big ++PLUS++. Oh and that Didgeridoo, I am yet to hear some didg in trance that i don't dig. The track doesn't take you on any great journeys but still managers to come out with some stomping melodies. They don't all last as long as I would like but the track progressions makes up for it, it all fits together so well. 6/8 6. Aontacht Cosmal a lovely vocal distortion pulls us right into this track with another hot bassline to follow. the vocals roll over and under the kick very nicely. Sirian is clearly very particular about his production. If you find yourself appreciating fine-tuned tracks then you'll definitely be appreciating this one. A little more psychedelic than the other tracks which is a nice break from the intricacies of the instrumentals we have heard so far. the final break once again makes me eat my words with a nice little trumpet or maybe saxophone? solo. It fits in nicely and brings us to the conclusion. A much ravier track than the others, something i would love to hear in a club. 7/8 7. Lets see what Golden Love has in store for us. Coming at us hard and fast we get rewarded with some hard hitting kicks and a funky fiddle (??) solo bouncing over the track. Oh damn i like the way this is progressing, a little something different after the mid break and then back into the banger that it started out as. Another beautiful example of trance working with native instruments to create a beautiful symphony 6/8 8. Somnabulist wasn't written to give us a break. going hard right from the start we have more vocals floating up under the kick. Finally a track that you can;t help but get lost in, always a good thing I say. Easily the most psychedelic track thus far, probably something to do with the lack of native instruments. A straight banger that would go down a treat at any open air fest. 7/8 and the best track on the album ( I guess in all relativity its a solid 8/8) 9. Stranger of the Forest Our Journey is almost over and i'm not sure whether to expect a downtempo or final hard hitting track to drive me home, in a sense this albums is what happens when calm meets crazy. Aaaaand it aint downtempo . This track has it all, it's got 6 different people on vocals, it's got harp, it's got guitar, it's got cymbal washes. The most fitting end to the album I can imagine. a change of pace comes at us around a third of the way in and then takes us back to instrumental magic. Ah and then some groovy basslines hit us right before we get a taste of that sax. Another banger for the album bringing our banger count up to 3 which isn't bad and most certainly not the sole intent of the album. 8/8 Havona is a nice little addition to the library, any one who loves those jazzy vibes will herald this album. My main complaint is the lack of psychedelia, while the album doesn't lack a strong kick in any songs it does at times miss the opportunity to get me out of my chair dancing in my living room by myself. Although that did happen at various points throughout I feel this would be absolutely killer with a live band. Anyone that has spent a night in Rainbow Serpent's Playground tent will feel me on that. The ratings got better as I went along so it didn't stop me from enjoying them when they came around. A must listen for anyone who wants something unexpected and original. 6/8 and plenty of tracks to help DJ's keep a crowds interest. Well done Sirian keep it coming https://sirianmusic.bandcamp.com/album/havona https://merkabamusic1.bandcamp.com/album/havona
  8. Artist: Various Title: Remember the slime Label: Treetrolla records Date: Semptember 27, 2013 Damn, that artwork.... It's apparently made by a polish (I think) artist named Leszek Kostuj, who also did the cover for the Aegolius-album released on Medulla Oblongata a few years ago. For me it's a perfect aesthetic to the forest sound, I personally get quite affected by the artwork when listening to an album. This is another compilation by Treetrolla Records, a label which never has disappointed me. Compared to their earlier releases this one seems to lean more towards the old school forest vibe, with artists such as Ka-sol and BOTFB and sounds inspired by them. 1) Ka-Sol - Dialouge 2) Nirmanakayas - Spherestic 3) Derango - We're All Mad Here (original version) 4) Zoon - Toothbender (bended live edit) 5) Goch - Keg 6) Schoiroideairis - Dance On The Rain 7) Ka-Sol - Discover 8) Battle Of The Future Buddhas - Forever Before 1) Ka-Sol - Dialouge: I love Ka-Sol. I love their morning stuff, night-time stuff and everything in between. This one starts off with a crisp kick which seem to echo in the highs, or something. After less than a minute we are introduced to some weird panning percs and a first glimpse of the melody which will guide us through this mad journey. Deep reverberating saws, filtered synthezizer-madness and some distant voices keeps appearing and disappearing back in the darkness.... This is a great starting track, it seems to keep teasing the listener through the first half, adding and taking away elements. The name "Dialouge" is great, the noises sounds like they're communicating with each other.... After the fourth minute it slowly starts to gain energy! Hats, gated synths and classic styled undecipherable noises which remind me why I love this band. Solid track, could've gotten a bit wilder but works very good as an opener. 2) Nirmanakayas - Spherestics: Nirmanakayas is an artist I just have gotten into (though I can't understand why it didn't happen earlier). From Macedonia, Hana Cheljo Petreski - the brain behind the project - keeps pumping out massive goa/forest tracks which sounds more related to the scandinavian sound than the macedonian forest artists I've listened to. Anyhow, this tracks starts with a atonal weird lead and a strong kick+bass, soon leading us into a nice acid-line, haunting strings and some great melodies. A few minutes in more melodies are introduced and towards the end we finally get that ripping 303-sound. The ending consists of some masterly melody work but in my opinion it could have gone on for 2 minutes extra! This is quality forest music in my ears! 3) Derango - We're All Mad Here (original version): Oh mama! This is the original version of the classic remix on Tumult. True to the Derango vibe, this track is more complex than the previous two, less goa-inspired and has more variation. First minutes consists of some introductionary weirdness which morphs into a classic Derango jam - which means constantly throwing different crazy sounds at us. The first longer break is a sample from The Shining: ".....it was as though I'd been here before. I mean, we all have moments of déjà vu, but this was ridiculous..." Great Once the beat starts again stuff is getting pretty damn funky, dripping echoing melodies and bubbling noises dance around the quite subtle bass-drum. The following part is a mad party filled with stuff I can't describe, but Derango delivers as usual. I wonder if - since the remix was released 05' - this has been unreleased for almost 10 years?? 4) Zoon - Toothbender - Bended Live Edit: Zoon has appeared on numerous compilation with some really good tracks and released a full length in 2013, but I've never sat down and listened very carefully to his music. Toothbender brings us a biig kick drum and an interesting "wouhhwouhing" bass to start with, building different effects and sounds on top of this. The first two minutes move quite slowly but after the first break we're getting deeeeep into the forest Tribal vibes, twisted frequencies and some splashes of light between the trees. This is stomping music for sure. The melody that comes in at 03:30 is very interesting, it has some pretty light tones in the background but brings a dark feeling when put in the middle of all this madness. After a while there's a break and we encounter a weird plucky melody and hard hitting percussive sounds. I promise you I'm hearing the click of a computer mouse..... The track quickly gains layers, breaks down, builds up and so on. 7 minutes in and Zoon is far from running out of weirdness. By this time one can only enjoy: there's syncopated hats, bright, crashing noises and metallic "leads". The track is over eleven minutes long and ends by transitioning to a few moody melodies, I am impressed. 5) Goch - Keg: Goch needs no introduction.. This macedonian producer has been doing fast, intense forest music for many years now - with a very unique sound. It's hard to describe but listening to Goch high is like sitting under a 40feet waterfall only the water is acid and it's punching your head with energy and it's the darkest hour of the night and your in the middle of a deep forest and.... you get my drift.... This stays true to this vibe and doesn't take much time to get going. New sounds quickly joins the strong bass+kick in a great flurry. There's some great vocal-sounding samples jumping around, incredible lead just a minute in and lovely percussions.... Oh yeah! But Goch isn't done yet! More layers and more layers upon those, I have no idea how all this stuff fits into one track... Constant arrays of new leads and details drop in and out of this massive atmosphere, keeping the energy and feeling pretty stable but never repetitious. The melodies in the middle of the track is superb, we are hearing a master at work. Goch seems to do something delay-related with his hats to achieve a certain sound, like a very fast trill-effect (is that the word? or maybe tremolo otherwise). Wild saws join the party during the last minutes and the track kind of settles, taking away some energy before ending. Nice! 6) Schoiroideairis - Dance On The Rain: The track I've listened the least to. As I've understood it Schoiroideairis is part of the group "Hada" which appears later on this comp. This starts out energetic with lots of sweeping sounds and noises, but oh shit! At the 2 minute mark we meet a saw-arp which would make any Schlabbaduerst-freak wild with excitement, great! The song keeps moving trough gated sounds and creaking synths, there's a lead that sounds like a sad troll and awesome plucky tones here and there. Again at minute 5, the schlabbaduerster inside me screams of joy! Amazing synths modulating up and down, strings filling in the top shelves of freqs and I'm starting losing myself in the music by now. ...I should probably try to review something that isn't as close to my personal taste next time, because by now it feels like I'm mostly screaming "GOOD! CRAZY! YES! MORE! SAWS!" but ohwell, this is one great VA so far! 7) Ka-Sol - Discover: Time for the second Ka-Sol track! This one starts with a pretty similar kick and some interesting synths. I hear acid burps in the air and acid melodies climbing up trees. This track has a bit of a morning vibe with a few bright synths, but it generally keeps it on the darker side. There's something special with Ka-Sol's way of writing trance, they're tracks are often more monotonous than much forest trance (not that they don't know how to turn a track upside down:.. ) but they're packed with ear candy. This one keeps progressing through acid lines and flickering noises, sweeping effects and super cool saws. Not much more to say about it, but listen to it and you will ...discover... some interesting things. Ka-Sol will always be one of the best forest-projects in existence for me 8) Hada - Der Teufel: This is one of the very few Hada track I've heard, but it makes me wanna search for more Some research tells me Hada consists of Nirmanakayas and Schoiroideairis, the plot thickens...... These guys capture something that I really love with the early scando-sound, but they don't limit themselves to "old school" restrictions or genres (geographic or general) so to say Great work with the energy in this one, it probably sounds great on a dancefloor.... But do does it at home in my monitors, so let's get on with the review! Hada delivers interesting atmospheres with staggering gate-arps, squeamish melodies and a schlabby bassline. YES. Last part is so good! Swirling synths and creepy melodies, spacey percussions drifting from ear to ear and a strong backbone of bass and atmosphere. This was one trip for sure. 9) Battle Of The Future Buddhas - Forever Before: You can't really compare Botfb to anything in the psy-world, this is truly a one of a kind producer. Father of the forest-sound and ever defying the rules of production, this punk has created more weirdness than most labels releases under they're lifetime. Dave starts this one with a thumping bass and detuned leads, mystical! This track progresses slowly, using subtle changes to keep us listening - very meditative in a way. The track builds up with more weird leads and a female vocal sample which feels out of place and yet perfectly fitting into the song. This is one of the great things with the buddhas, unconventional use of samples and sounds! The track reaches an awesome crescendo during the last minutes, bombarding us with massive saws and atmospheres. Great track, perfect way to end this VA I'm happy I took the time to once again hear this compilation from start to finish, this is a collection of tracks that will bring great joy if you're into forest trance. It has a different direction than other Treetrolla releases, focusing more on the early forest sound as said in the introduction. My favorite tracks are 1, 2 and 8 But every track is top quality, strong release!
  9. I have been thinking lately why the reviewers are just a few. Can we do something about that? Because producers and labels really want feedback and I think it would come faster if more ppl would take the challenge to write a review. But it requires a "climate change", maybe, to bring more encouraging attitude towards the new reviewers in order for them to have the courage to try. To make a review of course needs knowledge and objectivity and it is not for everybody, but I still think there are good writers here more than just those few. One important thing about a review is to start a discussion of the release and I think not every single detail has to be covered in the original review. At this point I also want to thank our all-time reviewers of using their valuable time and effort to benefit the community. In my opinion Label news and announcements & review section are the most important areas in this forum.

Vertigo Records presents: Terrafractyl - Electronic Evolution Previews online here: http://www.vertigo-r...ronic-evolution Discogs Link Vertigo Store Link Information: Artist: Terrafractyl Title: Electronic Evolution Label:Vertigo records Cat. №: VERTIGOCD026 Release Date: March 2012 Style: Morning/Melodic Psytrance Cover Design: Lewis Smart Mastering: Felix Greenlees @ Fractal Studio Track list: 1.Precognition 2.vs. Positive Thought - The Power of Your Mind 3.No Matter 4.Electronic Evolution 5.Free Standing Pickles - The Dreamfields 6.A new level of Reality 7.Cab Calloway – The man from Harlem ( Terrafractyl RMX) 8.Our Eyes can Deceive Us 9.The Cluttered path 10.Clarity 11.Inner Peace 12.Everything is Perfect Always How does one follow up and improve upon perfection? That was the question I had asked myself about Terrafractyls 2nd album for the past few years, wondering just how the psychedelic maestro would warp my mind yet again. No easy task as 2009's "Chrysalis" was a groundbreaking melodic morning album that captured the true spirit and essence of psychedelia in one tidy package. Was there really room for a positive evolution whilst still keeping that same signature Terrafractyl style? It seems there most definitely was, as Electronic Evolution takes the original sound, refines it and spits it out in a bubbling, burbling, psychedelic masterpiece of a journey from start to finish. Track 1 - Precognition An understated introduction with hints of Chrysalis in its own intro, it takes on a rather precluding tone, hinting at things to come whilst remaining quiet throughout, gradually building as though preparing the mind for the journey at hand..Beautifully placed strings rise in character as a playful piano meanders its way through the mind.. You could call this the settling in track perhaps, or perhaps just the Precognition to something wonderful.. Track 2 - The Power Of Your Mind This track, a collaboration vs Positive Thought kicks off in what I would call typical Terrafractyl style. An unmistakably funky bassline drives the track along as rhythmic percussive elements fly left and right, at 2:20 or so the piano work starts and things really take off. Absolutely golden melodies floating on top of sweeping psychedelic pads with an analogue tinge that squeezes out latent psychedelic juices. If you aren't grinning or dancing like an idiot by the end of this you aren't alive. Track 3 - No Matter Funked Out. That is one of the best ways to describe this track. Perfectly placed samples swirl as incredible atmospheres and melodies are layered on top of a dancefloor destroying bassline. Brain stretching squelches top things off and the great use of samples make this a superb track. Track 04 - Electronic Evolution The title track of the album and one of my favourites. Full of life and analogue sounds amidst a rocking baseline. The main melody and squelches at 2:50 or so have me grinning ear to ear the first time I heard it and every time since.. It has everything I love about a Terrafractyl track and even includes a masterfully used Terence McKenna sample. Only makes me love it all the more. An absolutely incredible track. Track 05 - The Dreamfield Wow. This track blew my mind when I first heard part of it long ago, but hearing the whole 7 minutes is absolutely incredible. It has an extremely psychedelic almost "Talpa'ish"vibe to it and the drop at 3:25 will surely send the dancefloor into a frenzy…Just..Wow. Track 06 - A New Level of Reality Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any better, it does. This track epitomises everything I could want in an "Electronic Evolution". Absolutely stellar melodies with some of the most mind bendingly psychedelic leads you will ever hear. This is probably the track I have listened to the most and I still can't get enough of it. Track 07 - The Man From Harlem (Terrafractyl Rmx) A rather nice short little interlude remix to break up the journey. Wonderful production and suits the mood perfectly, a great little addition that is funky indeed. Track 08 - Our Eyes Can Deceive Us Launched back into a bouncy bassline Our Eyes can Deceive us is a solid track that flows along quite nicely until some epic string sections come in around 3:20. Not the most psychedelic or squelchy track on the album but nice all the same. Track 09 - The Cluttered Path An absolutely stellar track that spews forth psychedelic bubbles from every orifice. Acidic sounds and analogue styled leads blend with mesmerising orchestral pads to create an absolutely incredible atmosphere and one of the best tracks on the album. Track 10 - Clarity A brief musical interlude, perhaps to give you a breather before the last two and possibly best tracks. Talk about saving the best for last. Better catch your breathe fast! Track 11 - Inner Peace "What should I do, should I meditate? Should I get rid of all my possessions?" "Are you kiddin!? If anything you should get more possessions! You don't even have a compuuuuuuuuter…" Starting with one of the best and most fitting samples Inner Peace reminds me slightly of an older track called Altered Planet in its various melodies and the way the track drives forward. A sudden key change at 3:32 sees a new direction and carries the track towards home while melody on top of melody builds into a wonderful psychedelic cacophony. Phenomenal. Track 12 - Everything is Perfect Always This… This track… This is how you do squelchy, funky, jazzy, atmospheric & melodic psytrance in 2012. The absolute best samples I have heard in a track for the longest time, combined with a pristine bassline and melodies that make me want to put it on for people who don't even like psytrance, but just good music in general. This whole album is like that, sure there are some typical psytrance moments, but for anyone that likes good, inspired, creative and incredibly melodic music this album is a must. This is as far removed from generic non inspired "full on" as you can get, and for that I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. A true masterpiece in every sense of the word..
  16. Romeodark – Shadeflower Album: Shadeflower Artist: Romeodark Genre: Darkpsy, Forest, Psycore Size: 165MB License: CC Price: Free and Donations Track List: 01 - My Travel Into The Deep Sadness 02 - Snow Walkers 03 - Terra Of Cold 04 - Aural Hologram 05 - Crystal Save U 06 - Good Bye Night 07 - Hospitality 08 - Hysteria 09 - Intro 10 - Psynesthesia After listening to a lot of Psytrance, the typical intro with an expected forthcoming beat gets old after a while. I am always searching for that extra bit of spice to be added, craving a different mixture of heart throbbing ambience to start the mood. First impressions are sometimes very important, especially for an album meant to introduce doors of opportunity, opportunities that can lead listeners into a very rewarding journey. Romeodark – Shadeflower will delight any psychedelic enthusiast, building a series of wonderful tones and a mixture of light and dark to bring you a slowly building forest sound set. The beat keeps coming and going, accompanied by constantly changing, yet harmonic paces. It is easy to get lost in the music, and it will make you smile with a nice touch of euphoria. True forest is learned from experience rather than definition, as described by Ektoplazm. It has taken me a while to truly understand what that means, but this album has helped me understand that its more than the BPM and music theory. It has to do with the journey. Its about how you can close your eyes and climb through every dark and light corner of your mind as the vibrations in your ears twist and turn your reality into a deep, subconscious self-realization. It can take a while for this to happen, but this album is a definite must for anyone searching for this. I can feel myself growing to understand more and feel more. It opens minds. The composition is extremely unique. There is more than just dark beat patterns. There are melodies passing through every minute, offering a multitude of emotions and expressions. From the artist, in my perspective, I can feel his travels through depression. Walking through snow, staring into seemingly nothingness while trying to search for hope, only to find confusion and chaos. It is almost as if he is begging for others to listen and feel what he is. What words can not describe, his music can embrace. It is certainly up to the listener to interrupt what all of it means, but the great thing is it can mean anything. All in all, it simply causes you to feel… well, anything. The artist plants a seed into our minds, and then it explodes into a pretty awesome creation. Diversity at its finest is sewn into every stitch, neatly putting together a colorful and complex organism. This singularity, this album, is one of those “top of the charts” but “underrated masterpieces” that you have got to slow down and experience. Every piece is vastly different from one another, ranging from 150BPM to 200BPM. when Jellyfish Recordings say his style is like no other, they really do mean it. Download this right now and get a mouth watering taste of true psychedelic juiciness. 10/10 Download here on Ektoplazm (MP3, FLAC, WAV) - Review by FatKidWitaJetPak (Nick Sumbles) - Special Thank to Ektoplazm for the download bandwidth.
