  1. Artist: Moonbird Title: The Indescribable Label: Self-Released Date: August, 2013 01 - Gates Of Haraom (75 BPM) 02 - (An)other Dimension (145 BPM) 03 - Punishment System (148 BPM) 04 - Jazz With Wartuba (145 BPM) 05 - The Small Sorcerer (136 BPM) 06 - How To Style The Drive (138 BPM) 07 - Sound Gamma Radiation (154 BPM) 08 - Violet Noise For 7 Days (140 BPM) 09 - Circle Of Stones (152 BPM) 10 - We Are Light (Full Mix) (148 BPM) I sincerely hope that the psychedelic community is visiting Ektoplazm on a regular basis. It has been an invaluable resource for great music that would otherwise have been relegated to the unheard bits and bytes of the internet. They truly have something for everyone regardless of taste. Vytautas Paukstelis is from Lithuania and at this time this is his only release. Is it darkpsy? Forest? Psy or progressive? A little bit of all actually. The details (effects that amplify the atmosphere and where I think his strength lay) stand out on the downtempo intro and dark tracks like (An)other Dimension thrusting the listener right into the ancient forest. Jazz With Wartuba is creepy with liquid hallucinations and the dark vibe is palpable. I love the break in How To Style the Drive...involving. Sound Gamma Radiation is part darkpsy, part...Suomi? I dunno, but I enjoyed it. If I had a criticism it would be that some of the details and atmosphere get lost in the overwhelming beat and bass. It's accessible for the casual listener (even if it's a bit all over the place) and while far from my favorite album I was glad I gave it a listen. Some good ideas in here. Free at Ektoplazm

  8. Artist: Todra Title: Dust From The Past Label: Unreleased Goa Records Date: July, 2020 1. Liquid Sun 2. Sacred Whisper 3. Halloween 4. Heavy Ride 2 5. Dead End 6. Viber 7. Escaping Spirit 8. Dreamatic 9. Spanish Fly Releasing music from the past has been around well, since there was a past. Sometimes it's done to capitalize on a moment, drop in for a quick cash grab, and then there is that awesome unearthing of something great. DAT Records has been instrumental in bringing back the past with numerous high profile releases that are damn near legendary now. Thanks to the pandemic a lot of labels are focusing on their digital side of operations. Todra was an Israeli duo who flew under my radar certainly. I knew of their debut album Figure of Sound however it didn't blow me away and I didn't give it much thought. But this is pure gold. This was to be their second album (unreleased) that was literally left in a drawer gathering dust. Thankfully it is now free to be heard. I find this to be a wonderful mixture of late 90's psytrance while still hanging on to the goa flavor of the mid 90's. It's electric with a futuristic feel with a full, rich sound. It's thumps along with driving rhythms, assorted squelches and screeches that appear to come from every direction, and well timed breaks that allow the music to breathe. It's extremely psychedelic music that then surprises with nimble goa melodies sacrificing nothing. The attention to detail is great and even though I knew it was something special when I first heard it, repeated listens only confirmed it. Like 1998 Krembo style psytrance? They got you. A fan of futuristic GMS weirdness? They got you. Guitars that don't sound like a hunk of annoying cheese? They got you. This release is part Eon Project, part Four Carry Nuts, part GMS, and part Tim Schuldt. Highly recommended! Unreleased Goa Records Bandcamp

  18. Artist: Xenofish Title: Encoder Label: Self Released Date: May, 2013 01 - Xenofish - Sigma (146 BPM) 02 - Xenofish - Leviathan (145 BPM) 03 - Xenofish - Discharge (176 BPM) 04 - Xenofish - Ziggurat (146 BPM) 05 - Xenofish - Mashiro's Dream (155 BPM) 06 - Xenofish - Logfile (97 BPM) 07 - Cybernetika - Pulsar (feat. Xenofish) (141 BPM) 08 - Xenofish - Blurred Matrix (83 BPM) This is the debut album from Christian Becker and it is an offering of different styles while running with a sci-fi/technology theme. It sounds very clear and I will tell you it is fairly intense. He eases us into things with the benign Sigma, a track with a nice breakbeat, but pretty forgettable. Leviathan is a somewhat harder full-on track with a very nice break that becomes more lush the longer it goes on. Discharge brings us our first taste of drum n bass and it is massive. Walls of electronic sound puncture the atmosphere with the high tempo calling card of this style. Again, Christian's break work is a highlight of the track with the dynamic give and take of all the elements. The track is constantly evolving, even slowing down to a mid tempo swagger briefly before erupting. Easily my favorite. Ziggurat is a lush, cosmic journey feeling warm and cold at the same time. The electronics vibrate as if alive and it instantly draws me in. Same with the beginning of Mashiro's Dream as he has fun with the cut-off knob. Decent, but not as cool as the previous two. Logfile is interesting because it's glitchy, noisy, nonsense sound is how I believe a computer would create music without instruction. Even though it is itself amusical, it fits right in with the theme. The team-up with Cybernetika is a treat and his influence is readily visible with a more melodic flair. Perhaps the machines last gasp, their final attempt to subvert the humans. The final track is an atmospheric ambient aftermath as docile as the previous tracks were unyielding. The battle is over and all that remains is to rebuild. It's a wonderful debut album. Full of varied styles with electronic fire and storytelling breaks. Very futuristic with excellent production. Highly recommended! Free at Ektoplazm
  19. Artist: SubConsciousMind Title: Symphonies of Life Label: Self-Released Date: March, 2018 1. Patience 2. Truth 3. Consciousness 4. Destruction 5. Love 6. Creation 7. Beauty 8. Humility 9. Trust Raphael Huber's latest release is a remarkably produced piece of work. The dynamics here are superb forcing the listener to concentrate on the subtleties all the way through the tracks. Very psychedelic at times with my favorite track being the blistering Creation. The 303s were going crazy! Also big honorable mentions go the final bits of Destruction. Very intense. Some of the tracks however don't evolve as well as others and maybe take too long to get where they're going. Still, that's a minor gripe and while not as explosive as Intermezzo Extended, it is a solid album. Free at Ektoplazm

  22. Artist: Various Title: Spirit Voices Label: Sangoma Records Date: March 13, 2013 Tracklist:- 1. Ianuaria - The Theory of Elements 2. Yudhisthira - Bhumandala 3. Primordial Ooze- Impact Theory 4. Gaspard- Get with the program 5. Southwild - Twiddle My Dot 6. Synthetic Chaos - Nothing is fucked 7. Via Axis - Light Portals 8. Yudhisthira - The Room (Braincell rmx) 9. Soladria – Ussr Signal 10. Etnica - Surpressive Fire Hmmph, Beautiful cover art, some sexy names on the track list and some fun to be had.... Some. 1. Solid overall theme but the rest of the track lacks anything coherent for me to grasp onto. I suppose that's the point of the psychedelic music that is The Theory Of The Elements, and yea it does get better in the last 3 minutes, but it begins with me thinking that the little singsong is going to play a role in the song and then it's gone. 2. Similar thoughts on the first 4 minutes of Bhumandala at first. After a few more listens I can start to hear the build up to the strong second half of this track. Throwing in the thicker longer synths makes a world of difference and even knocks the psychedlia up a bunch. but for a lackluster first 4 minutes I may not find myself banging this to often. 3. Dark and spooky with a melody that comes right out of a haunted wind up ballerina jewellery box. More my style with some thick yet oozed layers dripping from the rooftops to the floors. This track covers you turning Impact Theory into Impact Fact. 4. Cool intro and then it gets dark and dirty, with leads made of pure forest squelch-squark. Like all the tracks so far Get With The Program starts to form a more coherent shape as it snakes it way from start to finish...Wait a minute, serpent on the front cover....Serpentine tracks. hmmmmm 5. Twiddle My Dot does not Twiddle my dingle and right now i wouldn't mind a brain fiddle. In Hollywood that's a good thing, right now, I probably find myself skipping this track. That's not to say that it isn't the most psychedelic track here, it most certainly is, very dark and twilighty and i'm sure it would spin you the fuck out on a dancefloor Buuuuut yea nah. 6. Nothing Is Fucked, well we sure showed Synthetic Chaos didn't we? Well done planet Earth. Another very Sangoma sounding track, like track 3 the twinkle dinkle melody is covered in evil intentions. There are some pretty cool trippy moments but once again not quite interesting enough to keep my attention. 7. Via Axis brings us closer to Goa territory, the track is a little calmer than some of the previous ones and the low end has a bit more warmth to it. I like the crystal-delic highs that sparkle over the top of the track, overall it lacks a little oomph. 8. Well all my niggles stop here my friends. Braincell and Yudisthira grow The Room (Braincell Remix) into an absolute masterpiece of a track. Awesome theme and beautiful track growth. This track begins like a little graveyard sprite and turns into a goddamned 13 foot spectre. A solid track and 1 of 3 reasons I bought this album. 9. Soladriwho? Yea Soladria, This track has got me digging into all this guys works. Matti is Finnish and he makes Psytrance, well damn does he know how to finish a track off with gusto. All of USSR Signal is good but the final half Ah baby! If it wasn't for this track being randomly selected I may have not payed attention to this album at all. The final melody and everything else is just so good. Transporting you to a hypersonic Russian Nuclear Submarine is just one of the things this track does right. So So bad ass. 10. Etnica - Well well well. You know you get a lil excited when you this name pop up, that's why they get a dash. And this very well could be an extra terrestial track becasue it rips a hole in the solar system the size of your third finger from the right of your left pinky. In Universal terms that's a big hole in the space time continuuuu whatever. Banging track and reason number 3 this album had to be mine. ~ Well that's about all folks. Really the 3 final tracks are what got me getting this release, the cover art is also worthy of a shout out, super nice to look at. For the price of a European Brattwurst I think it's well worth it for the final 3 tracks and i'm sure some aliens out there are going to like tracks 1-7 too. https://sangomarecs.bandcamp.com/album/spirit-voices-compiled-by-gata-freak-daksinamurti
