    FSOL - ISDN

this, to me, sounds like some twisted alien cousin of trip-hop or acid jazz. More beat-oriented than Lifeforms or Dead Cities, but umm, still good.
  3. yeah, it's really amazing how the tracks blend together hear. you can't listen a track at a time and get the full effect. it all blends into some kinda ambient symphony, plus if you listen all the way through you can hear samples and melody fragments repeated throughout the album.

    FSOL - Dead Cities

In my opinion, FSOL is far trippier than all but a very few "psy-ambient" releases. So yeah, it definitely fits. Awesomely great CD. Personally I like Lifeforms a little more (more organic and less post-apocalyptic) but they're all masterpieces, indeed.
  5. If you really want beija flor, psyshop has the vinyl in stock. I don't mourn it's loss from the album, i'm sure si and raja have everything Under Control.
  6. Is this made to be exactly the same length as the movie so you can play the two sync'ed together? If so, very cool. I've only seen the Georgio Moroder 80's remixed version of Metropolis, it's a bit ridiculous at times and this would probably fit a lot better.
  7. ale, try phi - phinalizer. it's got the typical fullon bass bounce.
  8. this is only a brief intro to terence's philosophies, if ya wanna delve deeper listen to his lectures: http://mckenna.psychedelic-library.org
  9. holy SHIT. new school goa trance, not fullon at all. this is great, i need to get this. up there with all the melodic masters of trance. argh, so many good releases, so little time and money.
  10. i love juno's style, so i knew i'd like this before i even picked it up. only question was, how would it compare to their previous albums. i will say this, it is not as varied as Shango, which was absolutely all over the place (in a good way!). here, almost all the tracks employ the same main elements of tribal drumming, trance beats, ethnic vocals, and guitar. the two chill-ish tracks are gonna take some time to grow on me, and having only listened to this all the way through once, i can't make a proper judgment yet. i did not like Giant so much, as it uses a nagging growly synth sound that typifies darkstep drum & bass, which seemed cliche and unnecessary. that, and the drumming is very quiet compared to other elements; on a few tracks they seemed almost drowned out against the heavy metal guitar. but these are minor nitpicks! tracks like conquistador p2, zwara, and navras are a culmination and evolution of everything juno reactor's ever done. in my mind, easily one of the best trance releases of 2004.

    ETNOSCOPE!

ok, i think i have a better idea of the style you are looking for. you might try Star Sounds Orchestra - Music For QiGong Dancing. I've only listened to saiko's samples of this, but they've got a proggy/goa/techhy trance thing going, and there are definitely drums melded into the tracks.
  12. very nicey-nice. The mix drifted in the middle but the last two tracks really pulled it together for me. definitely a keeper.

    ETNOSCOPE!

Juno Reactor and Medicine Drum are good and tribal-ish as well.
  14. OK I got it. Check out John Digweed's Northern Exposure 2: West Coast mix cd. very pure trance music; drifting, uplifiting, and progressive, and definitely not cheesy. (NE 3 has good trance too, but it's a bit clubbier, and I don't think that's what you're looking for.)
  15. Hallucinogen - Horrorgram (ppl have mentioned several tracks off Lone Deranger, but this one really stands out for me)
  16. Battle of the Future Buddhas Ozric Tentactles Shpongle (really fun to say...) Brothomstates Sound Tribe Sector Nine Padmasana Texas Faggot Eat Static Lemon Jelly Ishq Jairamji
  17. Young American Primitive - Angel's Hand Eat Static - Implant, Forgotten Rites Spooky - Little Bullet So much stuff from that era was so creative and WAY ahead of its time.
  18. hmm.... it's violent the way a 1000 mic acid trip would be violent, not in the way that males like to beat things up. First track really grabbed my attention when I first heard a sound sample. I wouldn't mind a whole album of tunes like that. This is somewhere between Classical Mushroom and the Lone Deranger, just like everybody's been saying. It may not be quite on the level of those two classics, but it's damn good, and quite original compared to most releases I hear these days.
  19. Crystal clear production, dreamy sounds, and gorgeous album packaging. This one is going to need some time to sink in (Like Carbon Based Lifeforms, at first I thought it was boring but now it's one of my fav ambient trance cd's). So far I like the slightly faster trancier tracks like Cities Update the most. Shall we say... 8/10? Provisionally at least.
  20. you must mean acid for nothing - 1200 mics. it did get old eventually, but it was really sweet until then.

    Uni - La'Movin

    saiko says expected nov 5th.
  22. well i haven't listened to a lot of the trance that's been released in the 2nd half of '04, so i won't judge on that yet. but... best psy-jam-rock album: gotta be Ozric Tentacles' Spirals in Hyperspace.
  23. oh hell yes, i absolutely love the world class percussionists that juno reactor records for their albums. i can barely wait.
  24. Hell yes. I think Ephemeral is my favorite of their 3 albums, but damn, it's all quite unique stuff. Delerium - cheese + trippiness = Synaesthesia
  25. Opinions are subjective. While I do agree that Cydonia was unfocused and far from their best, I've been finding that Bikes and Trikes compares favorably with some of the classic Orb albums of yesteryear. True, there are no more superlong ambient journeys, but it really just means the Orb sound is evolving. Like the second track on the US release - it's hiphop, wtf!? But honestly, the beats are phat and the mc'ing is tight, so who cares? In fact almost all the tracks are more beat and groove-oriented, but they still have that "orb touch" to me.
