I agree he has a lot of stronger material than Flux and Contemplation but I think a lot of people just don't get the references in that work. It is a musical representation of the COVID virus. I think the loopy music box like tune is supposed to be like a sinister analog of an ice cream truck, traveling around on its rounds all over the country, spreading the virus instead of tasty iced treats. Then all the spoken numbers obviously represent the exponential growth of the infections. That sort of abstract talky stuff was popular on some 70s psychedelic records as well.

On my DAW I can deactivate tracks but I can't automatically activate them partway through playback. I can work around it and it doesn't hinder the final recording, but it does mean if I have too many tracks I cannot audition everything in realtime because there would be too many plugins running.

At nearly 2 and half hours, I must confess I have not yet made it the end of this mammoth offering. Eternal is right. In short, I really like this music a lot. The first thing that strikes me as I listen to the first few tracks is they have excelled at conjuring up exciting textures. It feels deliciously gooey, soft and a little bit scratchy. In their earlier music I was impressed by the spatial effects and the same is very true here. Some of the melodies drift around as you listen and seem to take on a kind of almost 3D depth. This is very hard music, as even though the Dawn half of it is slower and mixed more softly, I feel a relentless drive in the looping patterns and continuous beats and there is a nice darkness even to the Dawn CD. The Dusk one is even harder, faster and louder. It has some great voice samples as well. No spoilers here. The only other thing is I don't totally get that cover art. Guess I need to stare at it for a while. Some kind of fairytale theme. 8.5 / 10

It has a darker mood and to me has a slight vibe of 90s nighttime acid techno as well. I'm having second thoughts somewhat about the piano and the ultra long intro, but it wakes up around the 3 minute mark I promise!

Darshannon is a fantastic Irish jig. I take your point but I love it and for me it does fit the style of the rest of the album if not the tempo.

Yeah definitely not a proper follow up and how can you call it Hicksville without the Hicksville track? On the other hand, I am glad we've got those remixes. I wonder what the odds are of them making one more Celtic Cross release in the future? Nah I must be nuts!

After the gloominess of that last track, this must be my most upbeat and energetic Goa trance track so far. It even briefly plays notes from a major chord (😮 I know!). It culminates with a storming melody that sounds a bit like a mesmerizing piece of ancient folk music. Enjoy!

Yep, if the quality of those clips translates to the experience of listening to the whole album then I would say, provisionally, this could be an amazing achievement. To equal or even surpass classics like Another World, taking enough of their old style yet evolving it, this could be quite something. Let's hope it is!

This is one of the best albums ever in any genre. A youtuber's comment got it right, asking what is wrong with the world that this is not famous? To me this is also better than Shpongle as well. Well, probably (but for some reason I have listened to Shpongle more often). Shame they didn't reconvene for any more albums.

Honestly, I didn't get all the way through it that day but I will give it another go. It was a really interesting old school sound, pretty different to almost all the stuff I listen to usually. No really strong emotions about it other than interest so far.

This started out as a little experiment with four 303s playing in the round. Then all of a sudden I made a screamy lead I liked and improvised a melody by sliding around a Phrygian scale with my laptop trackpad! A little bit of inspiration was thanks to the amazing music of Greg Hunter (Dubsahara), not to mention great Berlin school artists like Klaus Schulze. There is a lot more I could do with this track but this is it for now at least.

Yeah the thing about chores is no matter how many hours and days you spend on them, there will always be a load more waiting for you. The music is about the only saving grace that can get you through them.

Some of the comments on the start of this thread are hilarious, people finding out about this for the first time and their jaw dropping. To be fair though, I only found out about it today by looking on discogs.com after seeing tracks by S.F.X. on Trust In Trance, and it wouldn't even be on discogs if it wasn't for the kind folks on this thread!

How on Earth or in space did I miss this one for so long? I am listening for the first time right now and it is E X C E L L E N T. It is the best Goa I have heard in a long time. I wasn't having such a great evening and this has cut through and helped me a lot. I am not going to dissect it too much. Just excellent, excellent arrangements and melodies, absolutely classic old school Goa trance, but it is the way it is mixed and mastered that just really brings it to life! Maybe 9/10, maybe 9.5/10.

Listening to Astral Projection Trust in Trance 3 for the first time ever and it is sooooo good! Gonna give S.F.X. – Rainbirds a listen as well soon. Proto– Astral Projection album that I have not heard either.
