TBH Sonic Species 2012 LP had great production but I always found it somehow bland musically, but some of his later EPs and singles were great

I listened to a couple of tracks from youtube and my opinion is that psytrance and Iron Maiden-like guitar solos don't go well together. Assuming that Talamaska still has something to do with psytrance.

Well, i guess it just depends on the overall context. In more melodic tracks the bassline key changes support the melody, that's not a trick but something that should normally happen. In more noisy/atonal tracks this probably may indeed sound out of place. But generally everything may sound awkward or may sound great, depending on the artists' skill and taste.

Well, it's simple. It all comes down to one thing - does the track move me or not? I can listen to a track and somehow enjoy it but I always ask myself - would I want to listen to this exact track (not just a random track in similar style with similar elements) again? More often than not the answer is "no". There is so much music already released to date in the genres that potentially interest me, life is to short to spend your time on "nice but nothing special" stuff The track you posted is just that imo, ncie but nothing special. Good atmosphere but it lacks some memorable melodies or sounds, or some other things that would make it stand out. I also agree with this. Well, actually producing a professionally sounding track having all the genre-defining elements is not easy at all. But, the complexity of the production, the efforts needed to make your music fitting the current trends, which again mostly comes down to the production aspects, can easily kill all the creativity, i think this is why there is so much of prefectly produced but totally unmemorable music.

Nice tracks btw, remind me of early Space Buddha and the like, with lots of energy, acid and deliberately chaotic weird melodies. They may be downloaded from his page by the above link.

I think that's indeed an FM sound. Try FMing two saws, or a saw and a triangle, separated by two octaves. You should get a ripping noisy sound, then sweep a bandpass filter with high resonance over it. Suggested synths are: Discovery, Serum, Viper, Bazille. I'm not familiar with Toxic but if it's an FM synth and has a bandpass filter I guess it should do the trick. Just for fun you may download Viper synth demo and find a preset FX Abduction in the factory bank 3, it's not the same sound but kinda similar, based on some sounds used by Cosmosis. This is a perfect description of my musical niche - both my listening habits and my own attempts. My music doesn't try to reflect any psychedelic experience as I have almost no such experience myself. I love the futuristic aesthetics of certain subspecies of full-on and progressive, the robotic beats, various metallic/sci-fi/alien sounds and textures, spacey melodies and this is what I'm trying to recreate in my own music. I don't actually pretend to make psychedelic music but since the artists/subgenres that inspire me are covered by the umbrella term "psytrance" I use this word to tag my own music as well. The "psychedelic" melodies are something really problematic. I've heard a lot of attempts at making a psychedelic melody, people often use unconventional scales/harmonies or chromatic intervals to create some psychedelic effect. This often just sounds musically wrong to me to the point that I just can't stand it at all, maybe because my ears are tuned to traditional European scales way too much. I'd rather listen to something completely unmelodic, some tracks consisting of trippy noises without any obvious melody may still be very captivating. Anyway, another great sci-fi trance track. Agree. This one is simply beautiful for instance, and the singing is actually very good. I even used this track as a ringtone for my wife calls for a while But most uptempo tracks where she tried to sing were completely ruined by these attempts, regardless whether one finds female vocals in psytrance acceptable or not she just sings wrong notes. This track may be the only exception, maybe because she is speaking rather than singing here. Youtube suggested another track called Kitchy Woman but I won't even post it here because the singing is just horrible like she is drunk or something. Hard to believe it's the same person who sings Blink.

For me it doesn't, I typically don't like any singing in psytrance but this track is great. The singing is weird and beautiful at the same time (this is what I'm actually looking for in psytrance - weird and beautiful).

Thanks, well, i don't think there are common recipes for making transitions, I typically just try various things untill it sounds right.

Really nice track, deep and mysterious. I'd call it progressive rather than full-on though.

Nice tracks, very clean and tight production. Generational Happines has some really lovely melodies but I think the transitions between various parts of the track could be more smooth.

Well, it seems that I just misunderstand this word. There is a word with similar meaning in my language (means music or other art with many easily digestible elements, supposedly more appealing to casual people). It may be derogatory but is often used in ironic or neutral context, basically it depends on how much the speakers care whether their own musical tastes look advanced enough. Here at Psynews, whenever people talk about my favoruite psy acts, such as U-recken, Digicult, Chromosome, Protoculture (older stuff), even Astral Projection, there always is at least one prerson calling them cheesy, as I understand, because of the "normal" melodies often reminiscent of regular trance or other "inferior" genres. Eventually I started using this definition myself when talkng about the kinds of psytrance I actually like the most. I highly respect Tristan's technical skills and I can enjoy a track or two by him, but without proper melodies it quickly becomes boring to me. I really love all these metallic noices and trippy/squelchy/bubbling grooves but I prefer them to be contrasted by something more melodious. I guess I'm not a real psychedelia lover but frankly I couldn't care less. Yet another fine track, imo it has good balance between harsh sounds and euphoric melodies Btw, all these tracks posted by Blubber are absolutely amazing. But as I understand most of them are made in the early to mid 00's. Shame that I didn't knew much about psytrance at that time, I think if I had been listening to it then I woud have enjoyed much bigger part of the scene than I do now.

I think this is enough for most people here to call a track cheesy Actually I'm using this word just to describe certain kinds of music ("cheesy full-on" - full-on with "normal" melodies), without any derogatory meaning. Btw. Padmapani, didn't you once ask for an Atmonizer version without the porn samples but keeping the main melody? The track Chromosome-Missing Link above is exactly this, just a bit faster (Chromosome and Anromeda are the same guy). There are some other weird voice samples in the beginning but they are not so noticeable
