If I correctly understand what you're proposing, I guess such a topic might be worthy of being pinned in the Music Making and Production/Industry subforum. I voted dark, not because I intrinsically prefer night music to morning music, just because my experience is that people are making a lot more of the former that I enjoy (IOW, it's a statement about the music that's available rather than the music that's conceivable - it could easily have been the other way round it the genre had developed differently).

Not necessarily. Personally I don't agree with the political, religious or aesthetic views that would lead someone to put a picture of the devil on the cover of their CDs, but I can't deny that some of the music they make (e.g. Horror Place, Devil's Mind Records) is pretty good. It's just that IMO it's good despite the devil/horror stuff, not because of it.

Sorry for drifting off-topic, but I have a sincere question for the people who don't think there was anything groundbreaking about IM's early work: have you heard either of these two albums? If you have, consider listening to them in a hypothetical world in which IM never existed; would you think there was anything groundbreaking about them? The reason I ask is because I honestly can't see how someone could listen to one of them and think "this is very heavily indebted to Sandman/MFG/AP" before they think "this is very heavily indebted to IM".

Yes, you are right - I absolutely do acknowledge that I was largely to blame for the drama (after all, I did start the thread). I have strong feelings on the subject and still stand by most of what I wrote, but I realise I come across as overly aggressive in these kinds of debates, and will try to work on that.

So you think that "You're just sour grapes because someone doesn't speak highly of darkpsy" (times three) was not personal, but instead was regarding darkpsy as a music genre? Those stock images of babies, those were about darkpsy as a music genre, were they? The "along with your arrogant attitude" comment, you don't think there was anything personal about that? How about telling me I should quit as a mod? Is that what you think of as a comment regarding darkpsy as a music genre, rather than a personal attack?
