  1. WHAT ABOUT THE FORESTS?
  2. Minor point of order: I don't think Afgin makes Goa trance any more, does he? Either way, I agree with you that 15 albums a year sounds like an underestimate.
  3. I've read that Aphex twin made sounds by "record scratching" with sandpaper instead of vinyl. If that's true then the resulting sound has at least as much claim to being random as any sound made with a deterministic PRNG. I'm not agreeing with Time_Trap that Aphex is more random than darkpsy (many of whose artists presumably do use PRNGs to make some of their timbres), just pointing out that glitch plug ins aren't the only way to make something random.
  4. Really? I had no idea. You should mention this in more of your posts. Although the terminology is not universally agreed upon, here on Psynews people generally use the term "Goa trance" and "psytrance" to mean different things - specifically, "Goa trance" refers to the subgenre of psytrance which distinguishes acts like Pleiadians and Filteria from those belonging to the other subgenres. As to whether this kind of music deserves to be associated with Goa, maybe it doesn't. But the fact is that it's useful to be able to refer to stuff that sounds more like Pleiadians than 1200 Mics or Parasense or Ace Ventura or Texas Faggott using a term that's shorter than "stuff that sounds more like Pleiadians than 1200 Mics or Parasense or Ace Ventura or Texas Faggott", and if you use the term "Goa trance" for that purpose then everyone on Psynews will know what you mean. Really? I had no [etc.]
  5. I also find that most neogoa (or whatever you want to call it) sounds very samey to me compared to stuff from the 90's, but finding all music from a given genre samey is traditionally a sign that one doesn't understand it; lots of people who don't like psytrance think that all psytrance sounds the same, for example, but as a fan of the genre I know that it doesn't. Procyon, isn't the fact that many people seem to agree about characteristics that may not be apparent to you (such as the fact that Cronomi records sound significantly different to Suntrip records, or that Artha's albums and Ra's albums are better than most of the others) evidence that your and my perception that all neogoa sounds the same is probably more about us than about the music? e: Sorry, let me rephrase that: Better?
  6. I don't see that there's anything to prevent you from posting DJ sets in the "Other Electronica" subforum. If enough people start doing so then it will make sense to open a dedicated section, though I personally don't expect there will be much demand for it.

I should probably admit that I worked from an image I found with Google (link). For bonus pretension points, the modifications I made to Pinky were loosely inspired by Dalí's Soft Construction with Boiled Beans.
  10. Which was, and still is, a complete non-response to his post. In fact, he didn't ask you "to describe how [you] felt". He asked you to correct him if he was wrong. Was he? Presumably not or you could explain why, instead of telling him that his post reminded you of something that had essentially nothing in common with it. Why did Exotic's post remind you of that line anyway? Was it the way that a different post by a different poster also used the word "fucks"?
  11. Which didn't answer his question. So what was the point, exactly?
  12. Visine, do you understand that one example doesn't actually prove anything about an entire genre? And that if it did then the examples I posted earlier would have demonstrated that old-school Goa is as much about horror as darkpsy is?
  13. I'm sorry if you think that Ormion's, Exotic's and my arguments are stupid. In retrospect I can see that only a psychotic such as I would have attempted to refute your statement that "the vast majority [of darkpsy] is related to diseases, mental conditions, bad health, death, crimes, confusion, sadness" by posting the first 10 darkpsy albums I could find and pointing out how many of them were actually related to those things. And only an idiot like Ormion would have responded to the claim that randomness is a subjective judgement by actually bothering to post a dictionary definition of "random" to support his case. From now on I will attempt to instead use the reasonable, intelligent debating style that the darkpsy haters have shown in this thread - perhaps I'll respond to any further questions you may have with some stock images of babies crying, for example. Would that be better?
  14. Take your own advice.

  19. Thanks! Probably some more pictures of babies. That'll show me. To be fair, he never actually called us Satan worshippers.
  20. Putting aside the fact that whether music is random (as opposed to whether it sounds random to a given listener) is not subjective, the reason I originally responded to Visine is because I'm sick of seeing people continually bash darkpsy for no reason, on a forum where half the regulars like darkpsy. Look, as it happens I don't much care for the majority of progressive psytrance. I have more sense than to pretend I have anything more than a superficial knowledge and superficial understanding of the genre, but what little I've heard I mostly find boring. I expect that there are a number of other psynewsers who feel the same way. But you never see me, or anyone else AFAICR, randomly insult progressive psytrance in a thread that has nothing to do with progressive psytrance, or interrupt a thread in which people who like progressive psytrance are trying to have an intelligent discussion about it, solely for the purpose of calling it boring and pointing out that the people who like it worship Satan. The reason that I and others don't do this is because we have some respect for the many people here who like progressive psytrance, and because that would be a totally dick move. Why, then, don't darkpsy haters show people who like darkpsy the same courtesy?
  21. Guilty as charged. Sorry.
  22. Don't forget Satan. Hail Beelzebub!
  23. No, you didn't. You never once acknowledged that your inability to tell the difference between darkpsy and something random is not the same thing as darkpsy being random. No, that is not almost exactly the same as anything I've said. Look: 1) To me a lot of darkpsy sounds like random noise. 2) Darkpsy is in my opinion [...] random noise Do you understand the difference between those two statements? I'll give you a clue: they have different verbs. So did I. Apparently I was mistaken. Jeez Louise. No, you still don't get it. The question of whether darkpsy is random, or whether darkpsy is Satanic, does not come down to taste and perception. If you still believe either of those things then you're quite simply wrong.
  24. It's also a completely different statement to "darkpsy is random". Anyway, as long as you're now talking about your subjective opinion rather than objective facts then I'm happy to let it drop if you are.
  25. Check out the 10 randomly-selected examples I posted above. It's probably true that the majority of Satanic/horror-themed psytrance is darkpsy, but it's absolutely false that the majority of darkpsy is Satanic/horror-themed.
