This happens to me always. Whenever I listen to a new type of music I get recommendations and usually think they suck, then come to understand them better after some time just forcing myself to listen and see why others think they are good. That said it doesn't always work out that way, and I still think a lot of types of music is better or worse than others.

Omg exactly! My family says it is just boom-boom-boom...... Even when I play beatless ambient music they will imagine booming or say it's too boring (which is often true, mind you). I think you need to give it a chance and listen for awhile before you start to understand it. It's a lot different than popular music.

Lol I knew someone would say this I've heard it it's extremely boring and overrated but thanks.

Recommend me some pls... BTW, I'm not thinking of scary music, but dark music... I guess there is a fine line there, but screaming and stuff I usually just find annoying.

And yes, I think most of these people just listened to goa/psy trance 99% until somewhere in the early 2000s they started listening to "ambient" music from psy artists.. and missing out on the thousands of ambient releases in the 90s and worshipping their psy scene artists, they think this stuff is the shit, when really lots of it is just shit. :drama:

So how do you judge this "artistic merit" stuff? Keep in mind music is usually designed for people to like listening to it. And what special merit do you think Ishq has... has he done something special that I'm just oblivious to? (Because I don't think the sounds or arrangements are anything special, so maybe there's something else.)

The problem with your argument here is I always listen to ambient music when peaceful and relaxed, either just lounging around or going to sleep or whatever. I try to give every CD the benefit of the doubt, because I always hope it will be good or at least have a couple good tracks, but Ishq just doesn't live up to the hype it is given. BTW the biggest crap would be enjoyed by a very few and disliked by the majority... does that it make it supreme art?

Why can you only understand how great it is when you're completely relaxed and focused? Sounds like BS to me.

So I've listened to most of his albums a few times now, and I must say there's a couple good tracks on Orchid and Magik Square of the Sun, but other than that 95% of it is just completely uninspired and pointless. Pretty much anyone could write better music because it's like... not even music... just a bunch of boring sounds with boring minimalistic arrangement. It's probably some of the worst ambient music I've ever listened to.

I love The Void but the rest is not that great imo.

Unfortunately most of the tracks here are just some random bleeping and scraping noises with mediocre arrangement and very simplistic music otherwise. There's a few brilliant moments in the latter half the album though. I give it 4/10. Oh, and there's not really anything uplifting about this... it's dark psytrance just like the Ghost Story and would probably fit better with the Schlab label.
