  1. Rene Guenon - Perspectives on Initiation (few pages left) Julius Evola, Mircea Eliade, Frithjof Schuon and the rest are on the way.
  2. I'm going to take back almost everything I said above about "no concept" thing. How on earth would there be no concept? The problem (in fact not a problem at all, but to make it clear) is lack of catchiness of music like this, which makes it impossible to judge from first couple of listens (the mistake I did). Very intelligent music to be catched from the first try. Updated rating from me: 4.5/5 (previously: 3.8/5). Highlights: 1) Heights 2) Alignments 3) Signs 4) Blossom
  3. I can see where you come from on these ones. Furious released monstrous "Uncanny Beats" in 2007 (which is one of my ten all-time favourite albums ever) and then "Supremacy" in the late 2008 with unexpected (which comes from previous album) tempos. However I think it's still a nice album, even though without doubt far behind UB. Same with Penta who brought up immense "Horn Please" and several months after that album (which maybe is not so bad in general, but comparison does its job here as well). And finally Ephemeris... I believe if there would have been no Distances before it, it would be considered as one of the best psychill albums ever made, but since we have Distances, the picture slightly changes its pallete.
  4. Astral Projection - all (with an exception for Mahadeva) never been a fan. this album is often (at least, more often than any other album) cited as his most successful output to date.
  5. I seriously had very hard time trying to figure what was full-onic in "Rise Up to The Sun" (and even more so, what's so inferior about this track according to some replies on the first page). Anyway, this is one of the most amazing goa albums released in the past years. 100% storming twisted goa album in 2009! Who could imagine? Thank you Merr0w, thanks Suntrippers for making this possible.
  6. Twisted D*U*O & Veracohr, I'm going to repeat it once again: «Trance» and «Ambient» are two different genres. The fact these genres may have intersections doesn't scratch general stylistic difference between the two. Times of techno as a "forefather of all electronic music genres" passed long time ago; it was the epoch of musical syncretism which has been passed ever since. As for the likes of H.U.V.A. Network and others mentioned above; they do have certain common bit with what's called trance today, however the vein of this music remains notwithstanding way too far from the vein of trance music. Those who find formal definitions useless, are free to call trance (or any other word) everything from 90 to 180 beats per minute. For the rest, however, there's certain albeit more or less subjective scale exists, which allows one to "conditionally" differentiate different music by different categories, which, when you know the subject good enough, gives you lots of benefits (such as having commercial euro trance tracks and twisted psychedelic ones in different rooms, to give an elementary example). You are free to not accept this formal scales, however this is where it ends. The poll is quite obvious and it's not quite clear why it's so disturbing for some of you to deal with it.
  7. You are confusing genre "trance" and "trance" as a state of mind, feeling, etc. Ambient and Trance are two different genres.
  8. Same here. The thing is... authentic psychedelic trance is in many aspects a flawless genre regardless of the branch you pick for consideration (however I don't actually consider the modern full-on vein to actually be belonging to psytrance movement). Psytech, psychill, darkpsy and psyprog all have great highlights that find their place then and now. Still, voted for psytech. P.S. I would also bring in a "nightpsy/classic psytrance" option in the opposition to darkpsy, since far from all darkish psytrance artists can actually be categorized as that. Examples are: Paul Taylor - High Life, artists like Penta, Hux Flux, Cybernetika, that produce more or less moderate psytrance without specific inclination towards either darkpsy or full-on and hence cannot be explicitly referred to any.
  9. Truly impressive, a master work! Ambient, idm with sci-fi breakcore/hard trancey touch. Everything is there. Favourites for me: Ropeburn, Shard, Heat. Basically every track is one amazing story, with no exception. Incredible work, Magnus!
  10. WOW! Do you all guys use FL?? +ArmagedDance to the same list
  11. I beg to disagree with previous poster. Top-notch relaxation this album is. And a good note above about the genre, the genre is dub techno/ambient.
  12. Exactly. "Bland but not bad" (modest way to say "boring"? ). I believe it won't be fully fair to actually call it bad in any known sense of this word. However, it leaves a strong feeling of something utterly undelivered.
  13. I believe some should say this anyway sooner or later. Leylines provide no concept. While several tracks provide some deep atmospheres, there's no flow (each track starts off on its own, with no transmission). That's a decent drawback (for a long awaited album like this). Second drawback is volume level: while there obviously has been some special intent in making it sound the way it sounds, it's badly missing a couple of dB's of proper volume. Finally, not so many tracks that really stand out on the album. I haven't had a chance to hear anything similar to the deeps of Dew, Haze, Onset Data, Chrysalis, Opalin, etc. The most conceptual track (made mostly in the manner of old Aes Dana) seems Heights, which is (imo) the best track on the album. Not that the rest is completely pale, because certain concept is still there. I'll refrain from throwing any more negative criticism as I figure what's said is enough. Apart from those things, Leylines is fairly good piece of deep ambient with psychedelic touch. 3.8 out of 5 for Leylines. I wish I had a writer's talent to make comprehensive review of this piece, which with no doubt needs a better elaboration.
  14. But why calling them all "psytrance" when you can facilitate your library (and thus, its searchability) by bringing in more accurate classification?
  15. • [music] -- [ambient&psychill] ---- [artists] ---- [compilations] -- [chillout&lounge] -- [dark ambient] ---- [artists] ---- [compilations] -- [new age] -- [trance] ---- [acid] ---- [euro] ---- [oldschool] ---- [progressive] ---- [psychedelic] ------- [darkpsy] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ------- [full-on] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ------- [goa] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ------- [hardpsy] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ------- [psyprog] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ------- [psytech] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ------- [psytrance] --------- [artists] --------- [compilations] ---- [traditional] • [misc] ---- [acid] ---- [breaks] ---- [dnb] ---- [idm] ---- [noise] ---- [pop] There's also year categirization within some categories ([2009], [2008], [2007], ...). That's the way I have it, the way I like it.
  16. Darshan - Tranceformations talking about dark goa
  17. I am deeply surprised by the replies. This album is amazing. Dark, powerful, intense and trippy goa/psytrance album. Best goa album/compilation to come from 2008 (along with Ra's output of the same year).
  18. Asura - Simply Blue Asura - XP Continuum Asura - Phoenix Asura - Like A Summer Day Asura - Code Eternity Asura - Land & Freedom Asura - Golgotha Asura - Back to Light Asura - The Prophecy Can't wait for your album, Charles.

    MFG - Project Genesis

Agree with the above posters. One of the best dark goa album ever produced (after Darshan's Awakening). Highlights for me: Sunshine, Why?, Voices, On Mars
  20. 01. Asura - Code Eternity (2000) 02. Elve - Infinite Garden (2006) 03. H.U.V.A. Network - Distances (2004) 04. Asura - Life Squared (2007) 05. Aes Dana - Memory Shell (2004) 06. Aes Dana - Season 5 (2003) 07. Optica - All The Colours Of The Rainbow (1995) 08. Solar Fields - Leaving Home (2005) 09. H.U.V.A. Network - Ephemeris (2009) 10. Carbon Based Lifeforms - World Of Sleepers (2006) Nice to see someone mentioning stuff from good old Kinetix label. Also, check out Optic Eye (= Optica).
  21. Absolutely loving this album. From hundreds of albums I've listened through years, if I had a chance to pick five unmatched all-time favourites (on the level of Pleiadians - IFO), Elve - Infinite Garden would be among them. Flawless ethereal ambient work. Beyond 10/10.
  22. Artifact303 artist album wanted urgently!
  23. Well-produced this long-awaited album from Vincent. Although still, probably the most inferior Aes Dana album. Signs is my favourite track from the lot. Good album, but not excellent.
  24. Amanians are pretty much newschool Pleiadains (meaning the goa days of the latter). Acidelic atmospheres they pull off are sheer amazingness. One of, if not the, leading upfront goa acts of the new age.
  25. This is one of the better darkpsy releases of the year. It's very smooth, mellow and almost an "easy-listening" album in terms of darkpsy genre. Usually even those who are not into it find this album enjoyable.
