  4. Artist: Mumukshu Title: Time Passes At Various Speeds EP Label: Released on Ektoplazm Date: January, 2014 01 - Transformative Adventures (100 BPM) 02 - Parallel Planes (105 BPM) 03 - Time Passes At Various Speeds (105 BPM) 04 - Folding (108 BPM) Sounding more like something you'd order from a sushi restaurant Mumukshu is American Jacob Penn who has made something I can nod my head to. Bouncy breakbeats and plenty of bass sounds with melodies that give it a sense of grandeur. There are glitchy tendencies of course, but it's not just noise. Computer sounds are melded creatively with melody and the whole thing is rather juicy. Sometimes I think it can lose it's way, but definitely worth a listen. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  5. Artist: Hypnoxock Title: Rewritten By Shiva Label: Goa-Trance.com Date: February, 2014 1. On The Eve of the Revolt 2. No Time To Cry 3. Double Zero *stares intently. Sits back in chair and exhales deeply. Tilts head in concentration* Hypno... Hypnosh... Hypnozo... *shoves books off table angrily* F*ck! I can't do it. All I see is cock! F*cking cock! It's like some flamboyant Rorschach test! This duo from Spain is well accomplished. Their album Synthetic Resurrection was terrific and they're not shy about releasing free stuff over at Ektoplazm. With a short three track ep they open our ears to their goa sound. On the Eve of the Revolt is a delicious short intro that ripples with mystery. My only complaint was that it was too short. Homies bringing the downtempo like Ra. Not Time To Cry is your typically good goa track which goes into overdrive with the help of a well placed Leonidas sample. Double Zero is the same, but the break is absolutely fantastic. Some rich storytelling right here. Feel it. Still impressed with these guys. Their productions are always warm and vibrant. They breathe life into their music even if I can't pronounce their name. Welcome to the fray my friends. Beatport Mdk

  9. Artist: Bogtrotter Title: Sonic Visions EP Label: None Date: December, 25 2013 01 - Bogtrotter - Mystery Beneath (72 BPM ; 7/4) 02 - Bogtrotter - Sonic Visions (68 BPM) 03 - Grouch - Perfukt (Bogtrotter Remix) (70 BPM ; 6/4) 04 - Bogtrotter - Unknown (80 BPM) 05 - Bogtrotter - The Escape (70 BPM) 06 - Bogtrotter - Dismal Direction (74 BPM) This is some slow twisted sh*t. Know how I know? For starters, there are 6 tracks and the size is 66.6MB. "I am evil Homer! I am evil Homer!" Whattya need a f*cking roadmap? That's some evil sh*t. You know that's what he was going for it's not a f*cking accident. Do you know how hard it is to make a file size come out to that exact amount? Second, look at the bpms. Barely average a c*nt hair above 70. Waiting for the last bit of ketchup to tumble out of the bottle clocks in at 80. The producer is from the Midwest and it's a known fact that the portal to hell is around there some where. And then there's Charlie Sheen. Yeah he's on here. And he's "winning." There are quicksand slow beats with underworld bubbling. Dubby basses and satanically manipulated samples. Even the track titles are dark. It's not for me, but I can appreciate the effort and attention to detail. This isn't just some cut and paste sh*t. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk

  12. Artist: Cell Title: Phonic Peace Label: Indica Music Date: May, 2005 1. Sensitive garden 2. Mister Ayatih 3. Zaz 4. Magic karma 5. Soon 6. Lord of silk 7. White call 8. Phonic peace for Tibet 9. Orange I'm absolutely stunned that this has never received a proper review on this forum. After all this was our introduction to Alex Sheffer and his mixture of downtempo and old world goa spirituality. Well, he made some great compilation tracks, but this was his long awaited debut. Long pads and foreign language chants that scream blazing sunshine and mystery. Ethnic instruments like tablas and the hammered dulcimer transport you to dangerous lands and ancient cultures and trying foods you have never heard of. Like Walter Mitty said, it's why the airfare to Kabul is only 64 bucks. The Indian vibe is ever present as the trail leads across the mammoth mountains of Nepal and Kashmir. If you enjoy that type of downtempo sound then this is for you. This is one of those albums that is very relaxing and left me with an inner peace. Unfortunately it's no longer in print. You could always go the Discogs route, but voluntarily submitting to a endoscopy with a rusty knife probably wouldn't leave you with a good feeling. Mdk
  13. Artist: Rainbow Serpent Title: Cutted Scenes Label: Invisible Shadows Date: 1999 1. Believe 2. Imagination Fire 3. Silent Running 4. Exploring the Mars 5. From Darkroom To Digital 6. Exploring the Mars (Part 2) 7. Ce;tic Dance My camel jacknifed a ways back. Total loss, it was horrible. Frothy spit everywhere. I crawl 5 miles on my hands and knees under the searing sun and you hand me a pack of saltines? If I had the energy I'd punch you square in the tomatoes. This German duo makes ambient style music that has motion in the same exact formula. The pads can be lofty cloud slicers, but it's the same sh*t over and over. Part of the song will be floating, and another part driving. Then floating and driving until you wake up. It's extending a phrase over the entire length of the track adding and subtracting as you go. There is zero psychedelia and they close with the outstandingly cheesy and diabetic coma inducing Celtic Dance. It's a whisker from Yanni without the cool porn stache. Mdk
  14. Artist: Ovnimoon Title: Camanchaca Label: Synergetic Records Date: March, 2006 1. Arcoirs 2. Viaje l sur 3. La India 4. Shamanic Dance on Ayahuaska 5. El arbol arauacano 6. Todos (ovnimoon vs Trancemission vs Mandulk) 7. I love you 8. High nrg (Divinidad rmx) 9. Camanchaca (Reike Pacha mama rmx) Hector's debut album is about as far as you could get from where he is now. His latest Trancemutation of the Mind is melodic and ever changing, but this effort is average at best in my opinion. It's a mixture of downtempo and minimalistic progressive that isn't very memorable. He maintains an air of mystery as well as a tribal feel, but with the exception of the last track it sounds as though he's trying to find a direction for his music. Mdk
  15. Artist: Elysium Title: Various Works 1994 - 2005 Label: Self Released Date: March, 2011 Discogs I'm too lazy to list them...there's over twenty. F*cking hell, is everyone named Andersen in Denmark? Denmark's own Kristian Thinning Andersen is a polarizing figure that was the subject of several lively threads here on the forum. Like him or not he's responsible for a big part of our scene's music and was quite prolific. This was released by the artist a few years ago on Ektoplazm, but has since been removed. It's a collection of his work over 10 or so years with music that is tough to box in. Is it goa? Tribal? Downtempo? Yes, all of the above. A digital only release there is a 21 track edition from 2011 and a remastered (what the hell?) 15 track version that came out a year later. One was in wav form and the other in mp3, but most were found on his previous albums. Personally I've never been a huge fan of his style as I think it goes on far too long without sufficient evolution. There are great parts on most of his tracks that unfortunately don't fulfill their potential. But that's just me. If you're a fan than you probably already have a lot of this. If you don't then this is certainly a treat. Even though I didn't like all of it he didn't have to give sh*t away so I would just thank him and stop being an ungrateful b*tch. By the way, I'm super keen on hearing his newest album that is on the way. Mdk
  16. Artist: Suduaya Album: Unity Label: Altar Records Genre: Downtempo, Psychill, Progressive Psychill 1.Suduaya & Irina Mikhailova – Sweetness 89BPM 2.By the Rain & Suduaya – Silent Awereness 88BPM 3.Zero Cult – Heartwork (Suduaya remix) 100 BPM 4.Unity 105 BPM 5.Green Beats – 80's Technology (Suduaya remix) 124 BPM 6.All is full of Light 93 BPM 7.Cabeiri – Voyager (Suduaya remix) 80 BPM 8.Empty your Mind (Feat. Amin) 81 BPM Unity is the new downtempo project from Suduaya. Since 2010, he already made two others albums, some EP and collaborations and one compilation. More over, he has been touring the world with his guitar to play live in the biggest and most famous festivals. The perfect words to describe Unity are light and intense. It is a morning downtempo album, but with deep presence of bass texture. This union between ethereal trancy texture with inviting deep seated vibrations is delicious. With or without a 4/4 beat structure, each track offers a cohesive, heart-moving feeling while at the same time keeping the intense frequencies grounded; it floats, really high, and simultaneously our legs feel gravity and stay on the ground. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::ॐ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: I said the first words that comes in my mind were light and intense. ''Unity'' presents a bunch of luminous different tracks, all unique from each other. ''Sweetness'', in collaboration with Irina Mikhailova, introduce this shining intention right at the outset of the album really well. Floating guitar and crystalline/mushy sounds intertwined in a deep, smooth bass line, all lead by the mystic voice of Irina. Same thing with ''Silent Awareness'', but in proposing more intensity throughout the bass line. It's an original track that has diverse chapters and they flow well from segment to segment with good development and progression, smoothly introducing gentle sounds of guitars and keyboards sprinkled here and there. The track develops more intensity while keeping it's shining structure. Enigmatic chant and guitar lead the way until the middle when aggressive slow kick and vibrations appear. Aggressive kick and bass line—we have to remember that Suduaya is also steeped in the progressive trance tradition. Track like ''80's Technology'', a remix from Green Beats, present this face. It is a hypnotic progressive tune running at 125 bpm and offers a psychedelic structure intertwined with piano and guitar sounds. On their side, ''Heartwork'' and Unity, while proposing this progressive trance structure, remain in the downtempo ambiance. ''Unity'' ... such an awesome track! Starting aggressively with a deep kick accompanied with loud bass frequencies. The more the track progresses the more you feel an intense feeling of light subsumes the universe. Light, light, light and then comes the masterpiece: ''All is Full of Light''—a constant evolution up to the heavens! At each step you think that the climax is reached, that you cannot go further in the movement. But the next part brings another layer, and then again and again. ''The light is all around you''—these simple lyrics lead the way until the end. The album finishes with two deeper tracks: ''Voyager'', a remix from Cabeiri, and ''Empty your Mind'', a collaboration with Amin. The remix of ''Voyager'' is not really different from the original one; same structure, same ambiance but Suduaya brings his guitar touch, which allows the track to travel higher in the space. Finally, ''Empty your Mind'' can recall the universe of ''Silent Awareness''. Same airy downtempo vibrations, original evolution and crystalline sounds. But if ''Silent Awareness'' is more yin, ''Empty your Mind'' is more yang, deeply rooted in a deep shamanik ambiance lead by a male chant. Awesome album ending! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::ॐ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Unity builds an original way to present a downtempo album. It is a beautiful combination of mysticism and grounded construction, not to mention awesome home made guitar lines signed by Suduaya. The light is everywhere in this album … Airy feeling, soul-moving atmosphere … A big smile to the universe! A must have in your discography. 18. Artist: Various Title: Graham Label: Equinox Date: March, 1997 1. The Infinity Project - Intro 2. Mystery of the Yeti - Part 4 3. Woodski - Woodski 4. Excess Head - Hopscotch 5. The Infinity Project - Noises From The Darkness (Dub) 6. Excess Head - Strange Thing 7. The Infinity Project - Mystical Experiences 8. Excess Head - Subcurrents 9. The Flippidy Dippidy Project - The Outro "You're going to be able to meet these people, talk to them." Graham Wood (half of The Infinity Project) brought his TIP buddies together to make a very odd album. It's downtempo and ambient with a goa flair. Graham is featured on every track under various aliases. My favorite was Part 4 by Mystery of the Yeti as it was the most musically interesting and complex. Some weird sh*t going on here though. How high did you have to be to make Woodski? Hopscotch? Noises From the Darkness? When those three tracks ended did the stock price of Doritos tumble? The whole middle of this album is lost in a green haze of cannabis smoke. Very trippy. Strange Thing still sounds like I'm caught in a hippies disjointed dream, but at least I can follow it. Mystical Experiences is a great slice of ambient found on the Infinity Project album of the same name. Full of sounds that continue with the floating. Sub Currents churns with juicy bass for almost its entire length. Even the outro aims to conjure and shape your hallucinations. If you're searching for that album that you can zone out to look no further. Set hallucinogens to maximum wood. Mdk

  20. Artist: Phobium Title: Oort Cloud Label: Omnitropic Date: September, 2013 1 - The Cloud At A Distance 2 - Drifting Past Comets (105 BPM) 3 - Crossing The Heliopause (145 BPM) 4 - Into The Interstellar Medium (99 BPM) 5 - Towards Proxima Centauri (101 BPM) 6 - Distant Sol Gimme a minute, I'll get there. I'm not smart enough to get into the details of what an Oort cloud is, but think space, chunks of icy matter, and comets. Got that? Then you are now floating untethered through the cold blackness of deep space. Slow drifting ambient somewhat reminiscent of Kitaro if he joined NASA. Phobium is Henning Ottesen from Norway and he presents the story of the first manned mission to travel through this massive cloud surrounding our solar system. The ambient sounds like what you would expect the soundtrack to the far reaches of space would sound like. Take an arpeggio, surround with pads, repeat. At 17 minutes it felt like it took forever to cross the Heliopause. My mind wandered. What am I going to make for dinner? Is John Travolta really gay? How come cows don't tip over when they're on a steep hill? Can I just microwave 3 day old coffee or should I stop being a lazy f*ck and just brew another pot? I poke fun, but he's got talent no question. Into the Interstellar medium is a vivid cross section of a slow motion tumble amongst the stars where you should be freaking out, but it's so calm and serene relaxation is the only response. Towards Proxima Centauri speeds things up as he rediscovers his software has a beat function. This is deep trance where time is rendered meaningless as I try to take it all in. This could be what the outcome would sound like if you locked Tangerine Dream and Vangelis and they spent all their time comparing dick sizes. Distant Sol is an isolating drone that will help you appreciate just how vast space is. So vivid and simple it moves unbelievably slowly like an old lady in the left lane. So yeah slow as f*ck but deliciously ominous. The crew of the Event Horizon has been slaughtered and the freighter is left to drift into deep space for eternity. Alone, so alone. Three tracks over 13 minutes of a very repetitive style is a lot to take. F*ck you Phobium for making me think about gay John Travolta drinking 3 day old coffee. But thank you Phobium for presenting that scary as hell last track. Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  21. Artist: Reasonandu Album: Imminent Satori Label: Altar Records Genre: Downtempo, Ambiant, Psybient, Psychill, ''Imminent Satori'' is the first solo album from Reasonandu. He was already known for his psy-trance project Eulysin, made in collaboration with E-Mantra, and his work with Adrian Enescu, a former member of the worldwide acclaimed and award-winning act Enigma. With ''Imminent Satori'', Reasonandu gives birth to a heart-warming album of airy mystic chants, luminous melodies, organic instruments and downtempo building. Recalling influences of ''enigmatic music'' from the early 90's New-Age movement, inspired by E-Mantra's melodies and track structure, this album offers an original meeting between soul moving intention and the psychedelic universe; a unique, inspiring and mature spiritual trance album! ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The adventure begins with a delicate track in collaboration with the singer Cosmin Culea. ''Seven Lives'' is an intimate tune presented throughout a simple trip-hop structure lead by the deep and floating voice of Cosmin Culea. For it's part, the second track ''Above'' brings the listener to experience a gloomy construction of sounds intertwined within different layers of psychedelic texture; a chant is still present, but it's an enigmatic one that leaves a strange feeling of confusion. This confusion disapears fast with the entrance of ''Peacefull heart'': a heart-moving track awesomely made in a collaboration with Adrian Enescu. Beautiful smiley chants, organic mood and gentle beats offered within a melodic shinning ambiance and crystalines sounds. If there is a Satori to have in this album, it is within this tune. In the same vein, ''Return of the Prodigal Son'' maintains a positive and sunny mood while proposing a more smooth and relaxed structure. It's a comfy lullaby to whistle slowly before going to sleep. I was speaking about an original mix between spiritual intention and the psychedelic universe. ''Gliese'' is a good example of what I mean. Deep and spacy layers of psychedelic composition embedded with enigmaticals and floating voices. We quickly realise the influence of E-Mantra with this track. The sixth track ''Imminent Satori'', has chapters of variety and flows well from segment to segment with good development and progression. A little highlight in the middle with a sudden surge of an unexpected chant and after it disappears like nothing happened – a surprising and original tune. With ''Nocturna'', Reasonandu reconfirms the album's cohesive intention to offer a spiritual trance selection of music. A tender tune lead by a gentle tribal drum and a subtle male hymn evolving througout a warm progression until the end. All in simplicity and pure beauty! For it's own part, the next track ''Mimas'' is really less original than all the others tracks and leaves an after taste of repetition and simplisitic development. Luckily, the following tune, the beautiful ''Solaris'' shows up and helps the listener to find the path again. Recalling the composition of ''Peacefull Heart'' and ''Nocturna'', ''Solaris'' develops a relaxed intensity which travels in a gentle positive melody inviting the listener to close their eyes and smile to the universe. Again, an awesome chant that sticks in the head forever. The next track carries the listener into a surprising evolution: ''Sibly's Vision'' builds slowly in intensity throughout the whole sequence. The first third of the tune prepares the table; simple beats, floating melodies and the voice appears calmly but now accompanied by shamanics percussions and a repetitive voice in loop. A deep and mystical experience awesomely made. The last two tracks present an important psychedelic side, at least more than the others. ''Moonwalker'' is a remix from E-Mantra. Reasonandu keeps the cosmic and spacey layer of enveloping deep sounds, juggling between repetition and slow progression, all reference to E-Mantra. But he puts more light and more beat into it than the original mix. For it's part, ''Rana'' is a 4-4 kick composition and slowly progresses in a simple flow of introspectives psychedelics harmonies and vibrations.
