  1. I LOVE a lot of Nitzhonot. I think I'm probably the UK's only Nitzho/Uplifting fan!! =o. But this album is beyond Nitzho... it's closer to goa and has more complex arrangement than a lot of nitzhonot. I also think this album is an amazing, beautiful, powerful piece of work from beginning to end. Thank you Elias. More, more!! =P =D :clapping:
  2. Just my 2p and as someone who has only skimmed over this topic, oldschool goa has a different aesthetic and a different force behind the music than new psy or progressive... You can like both, but Goa (meaning the old school sound) is something different... Hypnotic... simple? Maybe, but very different and connects with something inside people very well... I always think music should be created to interface with people in mind... like... the ears are our USB. And rhythm and melody are the 2 forms a human brain can understand in music. These are used to create emotion? a natural human desire to dance... To try to exceed these, super complex music cannot be processed by human brains as effectively, so the music is pointless perhaps. What I wanted to say, with that thought in mind, is to me old goa trance, at times, is the most melodically advanced music a human mind can process effectively... and the hypnotic rhythm creates an effect not replicated by new psy... most modern goa trance even. Sorry if I sound like a stupid drunk hippy, but that is my opinion. Also, to answer Anoebis, Ray Castle talked to me of Goa trance coming from the sonic structure of Indian music... 12 sitars... tablas... eventually becoming hypnotic... the drone of the sitar... I think the hypnotic element is the key. This is why the term "trance" is used. I think as long as this stays as a foundation of the music, any other kind of melodic or rhythmic structures could be used... Just like in Jazz etc. This is coloured by my opinion also, but I do not mind forwarding his emails...
  3. Still only happens in Belgium... UK has always been rubbish. People tend to forget the Belgians got techno first too...
  4. How old are you? About 15? You seem to have a huge chip on your shoulder. I wasn't insulting so I'm wondering what has elicited this vitriolic response? I only gave my opinion in response to your sweeping and unfounded one. And of course everyone has an opinion... I wasn't trying to teach you anything. Besides, a fool set in his ways isn't ready to learn anything in any case. Programmed or not, intelligent composition requires skill and knowledge (which Rizzo had). This is fact. There are no opinions required. I'm sure Mozart would've dreamed of making music like this. If only they had sequencers in his time... Anyway, have a couple of these back: :wank: :wank:
  5. This annoyed me so I had to post lol... The point of a lot of older trance was to be hypnotic and this was done by repeating melodies over and over and building on them bit by bit. A lot of this music was produced like that at the time and I enjoy that sound. An old head once told me that Posford isn't real psy and I thought this comment was sacriledge until I actually understood what psy trance was really about... The hypnotic element isn't as important anymore and certainly isn't as strong in a lot of modern psy or in Posfords music ever. Also, you can't really say Pleiadians lack proper melodic structure. Everyone made music using these "short notes" at the time. Melodically and structurally, the Pleiadians sound was perfect and highly complex. Andrea Rizzo was classically trained. All of the members of the original Etnica/Pleiadians had loads of industry and musical experience in fact. You have to realise the equipment these guys were working with and the kind of music their contemporaries were making. It really does stand out and it still is one of the best psy albums ever. Oh, and in my opinion Family of Light has more in common with pop trance than true psy.
  6. Myself and many many many other people on this forum and the other psy/goa forums listen to oldschool a lot. I, personally, pretty much listen to oldschool exclusively... occasionally listening to a bit of new progressive. There's not that much to talk about though... and I don't want to identify all my favourite unknown early 90s Goa tracks. It took me years to find out their names myself. Actually, just last week, a friend who went to India and Thailand in the 1990-1993 made me some CDs of mixtapes from the parties she went to. Proper oldschool Don't feel alone though. There are many of us, we just don't shout about it =)
  7. Ye, it is the Dreamtec tune from the vinyl sampler. I've not heard the CD though.
  8. Wowow... thanks so much!!! You've made my day =D Now I just have to buy it lol.
  9. No later than 1997... from one of those cybertrance radio mixes on psysurfeur =) Any help would be appreciated!! trance unknown
  10. Thx... someone on psy-forum id'd it too lol. I really want to hear this guy's album... seems kinda rare. cya around
  11. The remix of Totemism sounds almost exactly the same as vimana pt 2 on 7even sister7 =/
  12. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance =) progressive goa unknown

  14. Ye, it seems a whole lot better in the rest of Europe. Maybe I'll take a trip over there soon!!! =) . Thanks for the reply!!!
  15. hehe, ye. I have the vinyl. It gets confusing. So many artists change their names around and stuff LOL. =) I'll check out sonic mandala! Thanks!!
  16. Ok, so I'm in London between the 10th + 18th of August and I was wondering if anyone had info about events with any oldschool goa in the area? Feel free to PM me... Thanks =D qualia =)
  17. Taiyo - Taiyo (Chakra rmx). What an incredible track... Is there anything other old school stuff out there as hard and driving as this? :clapping: :posford:
  18. wow, thanks to both of you for the suggestions =) . Really liked the medicine drum!! Cool, qualia =D
  19. I wonder if anyone can make any suggestions regarding old goa stuff (pre 2000) with a very ethnic feel including chanting, singing, indian instruments etc... and effective use of exotic musical scales. Thx in advance, Qualia =) :clapping:
  20. Genetic - Transmission is fantastic... As is North Central Positronics - The Great Bear. I couldn't choose a favourite. Goa/psy is very diverse and I have different favourites depending on my mood and the time of day haha. Also, sometimes a really weak track for home listening can send a crowd wild at a party (and vice versa).
  21. Renoise is excellent! It is very easy to use if you've used trackers before. Took me a while to work out rhythmic gating. The secret is the use of the volume slicer effect (04 in the effects column). This only works on samples though. Alternatively, use a plugin =) .
  22. I have been using Renoise for a few years. If you're from a more oldschool production background (my last sequencer was Cakewalk for DOS and I was using a hardware sequencer before that lol), then it will come naturally. It also has everything on one screen unlike FL or Reason which I found much more difficult to learn... Just another option that might be worth a try...
  23. I sold my digipak version on ebay for about 15 GBP some months ago. I didn't realise at the time, but the digipak is worth more than the CD (I'm not sure why. Seems people like nice packaging. It adds value to the product!). BTW, this smiley is the cutest thing ever: :clapping: k thx
  24. These questions are asked over and over... and no proper responses are ever given... Just links to the same old articles and ppl talking about the European influence and EBM etc etc... I wonder if there is anyone here who can actually answer my questions though. I would like to know: 1) to know what was played @ trance dance parties before 1993 (as far back as possible)... 2) the names of the first regular trance dance type events in Europe. 3) to know where I can hear mixes from Fred Disko, Steve Psyko, Ray Castle, Goa Gil, DJ Lauren et al from 1993 and earlier (surely something must've been recorded?!) Does anyone know anything =( =(
