i go to parties when i can and make a special effort to get extra-wasted in those times... is going to change the world one day, i can feel it... besides that... http://sonic-energy.net my cup is full riht now

wow... if you're taking the time to do the sample things yourself, much respect i ussually just take them from saiko... there was one instance where i wanted to place some samples but i couln't find any so i just ask the label (Dada Stream) and they were very straightforward and uncomplicated about it. I'm guessing 1 - 2 min samples are harmless anyway... people in this scene i've found, are on the majority very relaxed about things... so ask, or not... it's up to you i guess - your reviews are a nice breezy read and to be honest i don't know many of them, so i suppose samples would be interesting

Compilation: Mind Games Web: www.doofrecords.com Label: Doof Records Year: 2005 Format: CD Country: Israel Songs: 1. Entropy - Robosize [142 BPM] 2. Double R.E.L - Back Dad City [146] 3. ccL - ccL [142] 4. Terranoise - Vitamin T [147] 5. Abomination and Loren - White Devil [145] 6. Encephalopaticys - Moments of Pain [148] 7. Electrotrypnose - Cypher [145] 8. Kashyyyk - Charly and Ervin [145] 9. Cactus - Psych Reaction [146] Another slammer from Doof arrives with an order of summer grooves. Now let's not forget who is releasing this, so don't expect fluff. This is charged with a good roster of artists and the emblematic heavy drumming you have heard in the past. In my view, it's a DJ resource packed with a number of tools and a few fillers, but worthy enough to get the plastic. 1- Entropy – Robosize Pitt & Omer open the compilation with their characteristic sound: a doze industrial jarring noises whilst the lower ranges are bombarded at around 145 BMPs. Sampling of ‘Beautiful things, taking you away' reappear in the periphery as it was heard previously in Golikem – Atmadelica (“The Virgin Ritual”). I do miss a big break and peak in the song, it just seems like it would add little more dance-floor-explosion potential. 2- Double R.E.L – Back Dad City There's a witch hunting this track and her name is Brunella. If the voice is any indication of anything, this is not the woman you want sleeping next to you after a stormy night… well, maybe you are that kind of guy. As for the song -the double duo brings electri-rrific bass structures, keeping it fresh and vibrant throughout the song. Some squelching comes in quasi-riff form in between stuttering sample snippets, echoing a jagged musical edge. 3- ccL – CcL The formerly known Zebra-N project just got a name-lift and this is their result. The track starts off with vocodic blips and children speak as the reverbed kicks rumble at slightly lower speeds. It's nothing mind bending, but trippy enough. It fits the compilation sound… I feel like at some point they all traded FX-design tips because sometimes, I have trouble differentiating one sound from the other. 4- Terranoise – Vitamin T This particular vitamin you will not find in your daily Centrum… in all probability not even in the 'mega-man' supplements either… It's the kind of substance that goes right through the ear temples quickly traveling to the brain, in the form binaural effects at high frequency modulations. What does this mean? Well, is good head-bobbing music for starters. The effects I can only describe as sonic splashes, spluttering the speakers. 5- Abomination & Loren – White Devil Chanting like you would expect to find in the closing minutes of the lord of the rings movie, comes delayed alongside a voice that sounds a lot like the character of Chef from South Park. The man preaches something about hating the white devil as spectral pads of a church-organ simmer in the higher ranges. The melody here keeps things interesting enough. A tasty dish in deed. 6- Encephalopaticys – Moments of pain This project is strategically aimed at dance-floor confusion. If you enjoy watching the poor dancers stop for a minute in their nightly work out, to faintly look at each other wondering ‘what just happened' then you might get a kick out of this one. The spatial effects remind a bit of Jellyheadz as the focus of the song, is clearly aimed at those trancing at higher states of consciousness. 7- Electrynopse – Cyper Vince Le Barde always brings a smile to my face... as usual the level of sonic interaction and complexity unfolds with marching-time pulsations. As far as I'm concerned this guy seldom disappoints. The output is a heavy sample extravaganza that somehow exudes very danceable harmonic dashes in the form quasi-trumpets, sticking to a very psychedelic treatment of manic inclinations. 8- Kashyyyk – Charly & Ervin I'm pretty sure I haven't heard about this project before. As for the song? Well this is the story of Charly & Ervin and apparently they just got raffle tickets. Or so the cartoonish voice informs. The drums here are steep, warm and furious. The Bass line twists with a very tasty octet variation by the tail. Enjoying the higher ranges flooding the speakers like ocean waves, breaking amidst the shores of alien landscapes. Synthesizers spit out some rotor-like noises gravitating and unfolding at varying revolutions… More dance-floor disorientation. Juicy! 9- Cactus – Psych reaction Cactus sounds like a stampede of elephants on the lower ranges. And how could they miss this act on the compilation? I'm going to guess the song was dedicated to an ex girlfriend, warmly refer to as ‘psychotic bitch'. There is no easy way to describe how this goes about, without sounding like a broken record. Rest assured is the same treatment of sample madness and relentless banging you have heard in the past. If you are into that new school of sound that favors bleaps, squeaks, chirps and the likes over a recurring melody, then this will not disappoint. All and all : Doof has clearly found a niche with a characteristic sound. It is a underground collection of mid-night artists, looking to retain a very subtle musical edge, not meant to appeal to grandma or Aunt Wilma... If you have been enjoying previous compilations this year like V/A - Forest or V/A - Booo this one shouldn't be left unheard. Favourites: 1, 2, 5, 7, 8 more reviews, where to get > http://sonic-energy.net

yeah it's nothing extraordinary... but average bad full on?... i've heard lot's worse... not mention that if you actually get original... the mastering and the crystal clear production is outstanding... but you are right to each their own... i found nystagamus square-inches away from average some people love it... go figure
-
damn guess i need to hunt this down...
-
glad you came around man, i honestly a little insulted with that 4/10... but, it does take a few listens to get into the sound, cause in some respects it is something different. The quality of the production alone speaks for itself though

here's the official http://sonic-enery.net review Compilation: Intelligent Manipulation Label: Zenon Records Year: 2005 Format: CD Web: http://www.zenonrecords.webhop.net/ Country: Australia Songs 01. Minimal Criminal Vs. Krumelur - Reefer and Barbecue (140 BPM’s on C m) 02. Cujorius One - 95,5 Radio Joint (138 BPM’s on F#m) 03. Sensient – Morehdel (138 on BPM’s on G m) 04. Praecox - Psycho Deloza (143 BPM’s on A m) 05. Krumelur - Destroy All Monsters (144 BPM’s on F m) 06. Moses – Moonpie (140 BPM’s on D m) 07. Sun Control Species - Nameless Blameless (139 BPM’s on G m) 08. Shadow Fx - Dr Elephant (139 BPM’s on D#m) 09. Tetrameth - The Quickening (136 BPM’s on D#m) * Refer & Barbecue My favourite part about this track is the fusion between intricate and intelligent sounds that blend so nicely with the overall laid-back structure of the song. Add this to your list of set starters, in my opinion, as it creates just enough hypnotic energy to suck you in the trance but yet stays away from anything too chaotic. * Radio Joint This track sets the pace for the rest of the album, in a strictly minimal sense. A complex percussion is accompanied with some really eerie sounds and melodies that create a very dark and confusing atmosphere for the listener while layers of lower tone sounds carefully penetrate the subconscious. * Morehdel Sensient does a nice little break beat intro that abruptly transforms into some heavy doofing. The song starts of heavy but slow to prepare us for what is about to come next. Slowly it moves into a darker and darker realm but he does a great job of picking up the pace simultaneously. A true progressive genius! * Psycho Deloza If you know Praecox, you know what to expect. I would not call this one of their best work. The whole track maintains a more or less consistent intensity. What I like is minimal use of instruments and effects to create a somewhat interesting melody. * Destroy all monsters One could call this the happy, funny, and bizarre track of the compilation. A random selection of samples and sounds create an extremely cartoon like atmosphere. There are some creative melodies that may remind you of a drunken experimental trumpet player auditioning for a Godzilla play. * Moonpie The cool and composed atmosphere in this track makes it a nice selection for something around the 5 am range, you know when people just want to feel the trance but are trying to store some energy for the sunrise. The melodies are much more lighter and refreshing and the percussion is simple and clean but still very creative and interesting. * Nameless Blameless Ahhhhh, and then there was light. This track moves into the morning with extremely soothing and silky melodies that are accompanied by breezy effects a nice use of vocal samples that create a very groovy form and structure. * Dr. Elephant Tribal beats, hypnotic melodies, echoes, and a careful selection of percussions consist of the overall foundation in this piece. The song moves slowly and consistently into more and more intensity. * The quickening The quickening has a more punchy and groovy feel to it from the rest of the tracks. It quickly builds its structure in the beginning and then adds more and more melodic flare as the track progresses. There is a harmonious balance of clean classical sounds and psychedelic effects that allow the track to maintain a very solid center. Overall the track is so rightfully mellow that it definitely makes you want some more of it. Summary: Great for the car, great for home, and great for a party. - Review by Sulibaba

heheh... the funny thing is at this point on this thread 4 people think it is a god idea to have polls while 3 people think it isn't... yet the comments don't really agree on the idea... this is a fine example of why polls don't work much
-
i have tried adding polls to some of the reviews but people seldom vote... i think the point was left moot because is much more interesting to hear WHY people feel this way, about the music as they ussually assign a 'grade' anyway
