  1. Culture plays just a big a role. Just compare Sweden and Italy as an example. You'll find tons of melodic acts coming from both countries, but the Swedes tend to base their melodies on minor keys while the italians do the opposite. This is why I often tend to find southern european music super cheesy. Procyon's opinion on the scene in Brazil doesn't surprise me at all. Most brazilians are of African descent, and thus have no tradition for elaborate melodies. They should be capable of programming some killer drums though...
  2. I've been looking for good in-depth AP interviews for a while, but haven't been able find any. Anyone one who can point me in the right direction?
  3. It used to be like that, but the internet is slowly erasing the cultural borders.
  4. My guess is that they've been changing creative direction several times during the last few years. Made sense for them to take their music in a clubby direction around 2002, but that might not be the case anymore. Plus they're in the privileged situation that they don't have to record anything to live off their music.
  5. I'd sort of lump all of the early Techno/Trance stuff into one big category. Take a mix like Carl Cox's FACT 1, and you'll hear how it once wasn't all "this or that". House, Techno, Trance... It was all a 909 and a bunch of synths. It's thus more an era of electronic music that I enjoy, as opposed to specific genres.
  6. Now here's a question for the Astral Projection nerds. What was AP's "main label" back in the 90's? I realize all of their albums got licensed from Phonokol, but the artwork/prints of the Transient pressings tend to be of a higher quality. That leads me to think that Transient might've been taking care of putting the releases together with artwork and so on...
  7. Mine was probably hearing Atmos playing "Klein Aber Doctor" for the first time at an old Copenhagen club called The Tube. I was surrounded by a bunch of MDMA zombies all sweating profusely. Was heavy as fuck.
  8. Can't we just have one Astral Projection thread for requests like these?
  9. Simon provided an interesting perspective on the topic with his book "Retromania". Nonetheless, the debate remains far from resolved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QSJxha1E7A
  10. What I'd like to question is the idea of revivals in general. Isn't Goa something that, just like so many other things, HAS happened?
  11. This was a post that really made me think. I can't comment on Filteria and "Neogoa", but where do you draw the line between ripping off and expanding upon your influences?
  12. One can only hope that this topic will be deleted along with others like it.
  13. I think I get what you mean Reger. I would describe them as "The Prodigy of Psy". All hooks, no subtlety. Not necessarily a bad thing, but...
  14. Dear admin, Can't Radi get his own personal board for posts like these?
  15. That's pretty much what my list looks like as well. There's just something about Another World... Both in the melodies and the overall mix. It's a very balanced album.
  16. I knew I had missed something... Could we consider this an added poll?
  17. I'm sure there's been a poll like this many times and more, but times change and so does tastes. I'm personally among the few that believe Astral peaked rather late with Another World. It all just seemed to come together on that fourth opus. Opinions?
  18. Those fugly black pants with huge neon patches on them...
  19. Time is not always gentle on the heroes of yesterday. I remember being totally infatuated with The Gathering back when it came out, only to find it a bit too cartoonish today. It's almost like they've become the Prodigy of Trance or something. Any thoughts?
  20. If only the track was half as entertaining as this thread
