  2. also use a gate when compressing analog gear, unless youre a fan of hiss
  3. hey Mikadho, nice to see you here, downloading we`ll speak soon.
  4. i can only agree with some of the points that colin made.............. a friend of mine once asked me: can you make a living FROM your musik?...my reply: no but i can live FOR it.... yeah, there have been times when ive eaten nothing but toast....... how very true...
  5. very professional sounding track, the production is clean and up front, lots of ideas happening which is especially apparent in the various breaks. hope to see other tracks like this on red cells releases... keep it up, greetings to france.. i may just keeep this one....
  6. of course you can change the pitch of a track permanently, use soundforge or another wave editor. most wave editors have a pitch funktion.

  8. here are some free patches for Vanguard, z3ta, Fm7 etc.. i havent tried them though. http://www.patcharena.com/
  9. yesterday i was going to answer to this thread (was too smashed), and the first artist i would have mentiond in connection with this style would have been stalker. some of his stuff really fits in this category..... very dark in the beginning, wouldnt call it funky, it is groovy though... very listenable minimal mash up stufff...blown away!!! mabey also something for GSH....being german....dont know though...
  10. data remembers everyone..
  11. angelic is the adjective of angel. angeically is the adverb of angel.
  12. i dont disagree with fact that the mix itself is more important than the mastering, that is why i gave some tips about mixing first... have a read here: http://www.tweakheadz.com/mastering_your_audio.htm its written by a musician not a mastering engineer.
  13. more music did NOT select the tracks on these cds. it was "beauty and the beat" aka "sally doolally" and "goetzlich". just because a cd is published by a major label, doesnt make the content commercial. it simply gives the artists the oppotunity to be heard by a wider audience. artists like sbk, philo, son kite, d-nox and beckers etc. play at psy-parties and festivals even if they have housey elements in their music. i guess its all about personal taste. the fine line between progressive-house and progressive-trance has yet to be defined. so go out and buy another copy
  14. thanks for pointing this out colin: i should have pointed out the dangers of doing this. using a compressor/ maximizer just for the sake of it can lead to unwanted results. so yes DONT OVER DO IT... and ill claim that to uncomress an entire mix is virtually impossible, even with a good expander. so again caution! maybe you could give some tips to avoid making a mess of things, dont want to ruin your buisness though ...... compressing the masterbus is not necessarily mastering. there are different forms of mastering i.e. vinyl mastering is completley different to cd mastering. if i recieved two tracks by two artists of equal quality one sounding upfont and clean with a lot of punch, and the other sounding muffled. i know which i would choose. i would not hire a mastering engineer just to try the track on the dance floor. if the track were to apear on a compilation, then all tracks on it would be masterd to get one homogenic sound. i will paste a large caution sign in my original post.....
  15. o.k. a few things before i talk about mastering: i agree with mike, before you even think of mastering, your mix will have to be good. concentrate on getting a good mix. group mixing is a good way to get your mixes clean and upfront. so group your percussion tracks and bass tracks, compress, eq and maximize them. do the same thing with spheres and synths. on your master bus also have a compressor, maximizer etc... it is very important to have a lot of presence in the mids and lower mids, this will insure that your production sounds good on a large sound system as well as on a cheap radio. back on topic: sound forge and othe programmes can be used for mastering, i.e. with the plug in chainer, i personaly prefere cubase. in cubase i can load a track that i think sounds good and also load my track, then i compare them in terms of frequencies. the good thing is that i can constantly switch between my track and the one that i think sounds good. to your questions: rms = route mean square (peak/square route of 2) i.e. peak signal devided by 1.4 often refered to as avarege. multiband compression is a a very tricky thing, if you have used a compressor then you will know that there are four parameters that are very important: threshold, ratio, attack and release. threshold: this is the sound level where the compressor kiks in. ratio: the ratio of compression. attack/release: envelope of the compressor. having understood the above, we can now concentrate on "frequency" the added parameter in multi band compressors: the compressor is split up into 2 often 4 frequencies. the same parameters apply but the compressor is now split in to 2 or 4 devices with independant frequency ranges being compressed simultaniously..... hope that helps you... EDIT:
  16. dubplates are definitely not metal, they are heavy and break easily. not sure what material it is exactley but its a bit like shellac.....
  17. thanks for the tip amygdala....those of you that dont own a mac may have to add ".aiff" to the file name in order to play the samples. love der dritte raum, saw them at the fusion festival last year....
  18. in my experience these one off vinyls lack quality and they only have about 50 plays till they get really noisy and scrachy.. might just be better to burn a cd....unless you are a vinyl junky of course....
  19. i agree that certain people recieve way more attention (mostly not serious). so being a producer myself ill give you a few short comments on the track. i listend to the track already when you posted it in the freeware thread, and as i know that this track wasnt done in your home studio and only with freeware i wont be too critical.....joke.... ofcourse ill be critical .. well it does sound a bit mono especially in the beginning and somehow it doesnt sound as polished as "Kt". (a step back from "Kt") try maybe also to use less reverb or make it less obvious that u are using reverb, a dry sound has more punch. i like the delayed percussion, that works really well. i see where you are going with this track...polish it up somewhat.....maybe when you get home ....
  20. just got two 17" two days ago after having worked for a year with only one monitor .... i have nvida as well (single head) and an old pci card, works fine. right click on your desktop, last option in the drop down menu something like propertys (i have a german operating sys). then in propertys choose the last menu from left. there you can select which card is primary and which secondary. for the secondary card chose "extend desktop"....
  21. thanks for all your replies guys, ....most usefull i think is the user ratings page on kvr, that was the sort of thing i was after ! thanks...
  22. im looking for more freeware synths, not just any but some that are not hungry for resources....so not those blown up vstis with amazing guis rather simple but effective ones. i personaly have found the stuff by mda quite reliable. im asking this because im fedup of having to export audio tracks, only to find that im not satisfied with the sound, chords or line and having to do the whole thing again.... one thing that really suffers while working in this way is the arrangement...as audio tracks arent that flexible... plaese only post stuff you have experience with, and know to be reliable.. thanks in advance..
  23. its all a bit vague! youll have to be more specific.
  24. can you be a bit more specific, do you mean adding effects to a sound i.e. delay etc.. or do you mean creating a specific sound or sample? if its the first option then i dont know because i dont know f.l. but there are f.l. experts on this board..
