  1. Wow! Classical music and electronic instruments is a great combination in theory but very unorthodox. I can imagine it's a bit hard to get samples from an orchestra... These are nice!
  2. If you want to find out which of these "mostly positive" reviews that are actually correct, check out how many times a review has been commented. I don't come here very often but it works for me. Check reviews, 2012. Take a quick scan, finds Crossing Mind - Inner Shift (SUNCD25) Pleiadians - Starseed EP Then combine that with some knowledge of genre. I know pleiadians, and SUNCD is Suntrip which is goa. There's a lot of newschool goa out there but most is boring. Here however i think i found two albums that are worth to check out. Btw both these are totally awesome, clearly worth to buy.
  3. Great review. Thanks for posting it on facebook, that's how i saw it I actually bought this album yesterday. I too think it sounded a bit different than the energy-waves-stuff. Which is good. I think i will return with more thoughts once i have the CD.
  4. I clearly liked the old YB albums better. I think it lacks variety and many songs sound the same. Still good though, just not as good.

    Mind Rewind

Great review! I too bought this album and i agree it's really awesome. It varies much between songs and it's sometimes has quite complex layers, meaning you don't get tired of it in the first time. It disturbs you and makes you stay alert but it's not noisy. Great stuff. One huge downside with it though is that i can't play it in my computer. I contacted the record company about it because i thought they had used DRM without saying so (i was rather upset). They said they hadn't done that but a few others had also reported problems with reading the discs. I believe them. I went to a friend and ripped the album instead. Not perfect but i got it legally and i love it edit: I came to think about Juno Reactor - Razorback from the album Beyond the infinite (1996). It comes close, but this song is better according to me. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYOdcq3kB44
  6. I like this album a lot because it's good in its own way but also different from everything else. Quite minimal compared to most other neo-goa. Refreshing! Soul Sucker is my favourite track. Don't know why, i just think it's epic. Love the drawn out intro.
  7. found it for ya (and for myself, awesome track) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9ZvNGIJMvM it is played in the end of this Symphonix DJ set available on Soundcloud around 50min mark found on these: http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/spn/spn1cd037.html http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/yse/yse2cd248.html non-remixed version on this one http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/spn/spn1cd032.html
  8. This was my first review ever, hope you like it even though it was long. Hard to describe this work of art. I'm a long term fan of Aes Dana, this felt really good to write! Some trivia: i believe Vince Villuis, the guy behind Aes Dana has some affection to Sweden. The title of the second track, Snoeflinga (Snöflinga in swedish) means snowflake. It's not the first time he used swedish words, Natti Natti (good night in swedish, sort of) from the album Season 5. The reason behind this i don't know. Also one of his other projects, H.U.V.A. NETWORK, is a collaboration with a swedish artist. If you find any spelling or grammatical errors please correct me, english isn't my native language. Anyway, cheers from Sweden!
  9. Aes Dana - Perimeters Artist: Aes Dana Title: Perimeters Label: Ultimae Records Released: Feb. 2011 Genre: Chillout, Downtempo, Ambient, Progressive Time: 01:14:08 Tracklist: 01. Anthrazit (featuring Field Rotation) (6:34) 02. Snoeflinga (6:23) 03. Perimeters (10:09) 04. In Between (7:55) 05. Xylem (2:14) 06. Resin (Overspring edit) (10:12) 07. Heaven Report (7:10) 08. Antimatter (Ante) (3:25) 09. Antimatter (Post) (6:15) 10. The missing words (7:58) 11. Currents (5:54) First lets have a look at the cover. You notice that Ultimae changed its standards for covers with this one. Previous albums used to have black bars at the top and bottom of the main image. This album uses a full-size picture. I can't tell the importance of that other than it's looks nice. Perhaps it's good to differentiate albums from eachother. It could be easy to think all Ultimae albums sound the same if they all look the same. With Aes Dana music, much can be understood by taking a good look at the cover. Not that you'll see any hidden details but you get the sense of where things are going. Cover and music compliment eachother good both in this one and in previous albums. Aes Dana has been around for some time now and this is the 5:th album. Last album was Leylines which arrived in 2009. If you are interested you should also read that review. All albums seems to follow a similar pattern, Perimeters is no exception. If you listen you will recognize it. It's not that they sound the same, they just have the same way of telling a story. The stories differ though, and so does the sound of each album. In a certain way i think Aes Danas music is similar to classical music in a way. It speaks a language that everyone can understand but you have to get familiar with it or it'll just sound weird. It is not the ordinary "dance to this groove" or "take this chillpill"-stuff that controls emotions. It's more like "listen to what i have to say and think about it". This music is complex. I guess you can say that it grows on you. If you try to understand it, it will always get better the more you listen to it. Each listening session you discover new sounds and get new thoughts about it. Sooner or later you will finish the puzzle but when you do that you'll notice that it was the journey there that was the good stuff. Trying to understand everything you'll notice it's also about your own preferences and not just reading the message. It's safe to say this music isn't easily put into categories. It's chillout but at the same time it's not. If you are looking for the average chillout fix perhaps you'll be dissapointed. Anyway, three paragraphs and i havn't gotten to this album yet. I feel that listening to this album gives you somewhat the same feeling as listening to the previous four albums. As i said it follows the same pattern. It's chillout music mixed with more progressive basslines. The melodies are the usual, open, lots of air, space, soft, not very driving but still they have a goal. They interact with deep bass, both as samples and basslines. The aim, i guess, is to make music for both body and mind. If you manage to separate the basslines from the melodies you can get the feeling that the basslines speak to your body and the soft spacey melodies talk to the mind. This leaves you in a state where your body is awake but your mind is floating away. If you fail that, i think you'll find the basslines annoying. There are differences between this album and previous ones though. Aes Dana has always had a progressive touch, but early albums like Season 5 and Aftermath had mostly different basslines. They were cleaner and wasn't used as often. Perhaps they were more in the direction of goa (not entirely but anyway). There used to be a bit more psychedelic melodies that used to speak more directly to you. Leylines and this album have a little bit less psychedelic stuff, the ambient spacey melodies are a little bit toned down and basslines are more progressive. Instead new types of samples are used. I assume it's just following the flow of time. All artists take inspiration from eachother and whats popular at the time. Talking about the message each album want's to deliver is spoiling your experience so i wont do that. It's also not that important as i believe part of it is up to the listener to make. No track stands out more than the others. Some tracks are more laid back while others push you forward. The album wouldn't be good if all tracks were either way. This also means you have to give this album time. If i had to pick a track it would be the title track Perimeters. It sums the album up in a sense of way. Conclusion and TLDR: This can be extremely good if you understand it, but also annoying if you don't (as with all music but more extreme i think). That is because it's complex. You should listen to it with an open mind, no assumptions of what it's gonna be. While part or me feels it could've been more different from previous albums, it also feels good to have more of the same since not much other music sounds like it. The slight change in direction towards being more progressive lies well with the time but isn't a personal favourite of mine. That being said, i still love it and give this two thumbs up, hopeing it'll last as long as earlier albums. samples and more info: http://www.ultimae.com/en/releases/504/index.html http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/inr/inr1cd045.html Perimeters track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEFKJ0tgGk4
  10. If it's any comfort i liked the 'Amithaba Buddha - Myself in the mirror' CD a lot. Suits my taste more Dunno why i felt the need to write this, i just hope you keep some distance to negative reviews and opinions like mine. But at the same time, it could be boring with just worshippers around?
  11. Haha thank you! With that list of formats you may change my slight minus into a regular plus! I edited previous post. Guess i'm just tired of all the "download here" that leads to "download here" buttons, skipped it fast. Sorry!
  12. Nice. I generally like acid so i downloaded and tried it. You're right about it being more techno than trance. The first two tracks are really acid techno. If you like this style i can understand your high rating because there doesn't seem to be much of this around. I thought it was just enervating. It doesn't get me anywhere. Either the tracks doesn't evolve or i don't get it. Guess i'm more of a trance guy but i wanted to try it anyway because i really like stuff like the Aphex Twin - Classics album and so on. This was nothing like it. Third track is also what you said it was gonna be. Nothing special. But i didn't think it was worse than the first two. In my opinion it's just like the first two. Last track was not what you said it was gonna be. While i can understand there is more trance in it than the first two tracks, it's still acid techno. This is not goa-trance or anything like it. Yes there are 303s and much acid, but the baseline and melody (or lack thereof) are neither goa nor trance. Now i'm not here to discuss genre borders so if anyone have a different opinion i can understand that. But i wouldn't call it trance. I couldn't find a red line or "story" to follow like i usually can with trance or goa-trance. Still i like this track the most, but the baseline is enervating. Also a slight minus for the tracks not being available as FLAC. Yes they are free so i shouldn't complain at all (and really i'm not here to complain, but to give constructive advice), but converting to FLAC is no different than converting to MP3 and i see no reason for MP3 other than to reduce file size (which is good for mobile phones). The different audio formats available is a plus for all those out there that has big digital audio libraries (see next post for reason of editing). Audio quality could on the other hand be a bit better. It feels like the artist could step up a bit in musical depth aswell if you get what i mean. Again, i don't want to complain. Take my criticism as constructive advice or not at all. Maybe i could've used better wording and tone but english is not my native language. I apologize for any toes stepped on Conclusion: I wont rate this because it would be a highly subjective rating. Final verdict is that this is probably good if you like the more techno-side of things. Production quality could be better, but i guess MP3 is an ok choice audio formats available are very good but the audio quality wasn't 100%. I guess this doesn't qualify for commercial success but as a free download and good enough quality it could be great at underground parties and such.
  13. wow This album is truly awesome! A bit like Shpongle but less south-american and indian samples and more europe/north-american ones. Very trippy. Favourite tracks are "Sunday St Kilda Setdown" and "EMC Squared". If you like the song Sunday St Kilda i can recommend this album: http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/twi/twi1cd003.html a twisted records compilation called Eclipse. I think it's still available from Twisted records own shop at http://www.twistedmusic.com/ Also very trippy and slow. Magic. I'm aware that this album was made earlier than what i compared it to but i discovered it just now after reading this thread. Had to download it though :-(
  14. +1 That one is awesome. I just can't stop listen to it
  15. http://www.phototropicrecords.com/ http://www.suntriprecords.com/news/ http://cronomi.com/ Good labels to watch.
  16. Well YB isn't for everyone, but i think it's really good for listening to at home. I also like this pledge thing. It allows close fans to get something more out of it, and it allows Twisted to get more income (i know they have had financial issues). I pledged a signed CD myself. Would've wanted album cover as a poster too, but can't find any. I like posters. edit: yay, first post! Hi all! Been reading a lot on here though, i especially like the album reviews.
