My choice would be Tsunami Benefit - 3 CD's with a lot of high quality trance and ambient of the price of 1. Yes, there's a lot of full on, but a lot of it is actually quite good. Plus the profit goes for a good cause. I never really got the hype surrounding Apsara. If you want old school goa trance, for christ sake, buy a REAL old school goa trance compilation and not some new imitation.

I know you said price isn't important, but I would really advice you to ignore the advices to spend insane amouts of money on absolute high end mixers. I myself own a Behringer DX 626 mixer which you can buy for a bargain price of 650 DKr at Aage.dk. It has all the features you will need, and for practicing at home it would be total overkill to buy a mixer for 10-15 times that price - the sound quality on Behringer of course isn't high end, and it probably won't last for 5-10 years, but for practicing it has everything you need. There's GREAT value for the money. Concerning CD-players I must say that I consider the CDJ100 terribly overrated, but sadly it has become the standard on our scene. CDJ800 and CDJ1000 are great players, but ironically they are almost too good for practicing at home - you will get used to the many features and high pitch-precision, and that could cause you some problems when you get out to play at gigs with worse equipment.

People, this really deserves a good listen. Being a friend of him, I might be biased, but I'm very honest when I say he's one of the best psytrance/progressive DJ's in Denmark. He's been a huge inspiration in the beginning of my "career", and this mix with deep, atmospheric, dreamy tunes just underlines his huge talent in mixing, track selection and general feeling of flow in a set. A highly recommended download!

Artist: Various Title: Tokyo Underground - compiled by DJ BIN Label: Stargate Format: CD (Jewelcase with standard 4-page inlay) Released: August, 2005 Review: Stargate is already well known in many parts of the world as the party-organisation with the most impressive progressive lineups in Japan. As a label Stargate is still pretty unknown though, with so far 2 official releases in the catalogue. The first official release was an ambient-compilation, featuring tracks from artists like Solar Fields, Kaya Project, Aes Dana and Vibrasphere, and the second CD, the recently released "Tokyo Underground", provides an impressive and very promising list of artists from the progressive trance and house spectrum. 01. Antix - Free As We Are (Paste Remix) [134 BPM] The compilation kicks of with a remix of "Free As We Are" from Antix' 2003 debut-album "Lull" - behind the remix is the slightly inactive Swiss duo Paste, and the result is pretty good. Like in the original the atmosphere is quite dark, almost even darker after the addition of a gloomy child-sample. The groove is made sleazier and dirtier, which works pretty well with the other elements in the track. Fine remix. 02. Clutch - The Weekend [130 BPM] Next up is Clutch from Japan - a relatively unknown act, despite appearances on labels like Sub Machine, Groove Zone and Maniac I.Q. "The Weekend" is probably the best track I've heard from him - quite slow, but with a very relentless techish groove and a hint of some melancholic pads somewhere in the background. Maybe a bit too monotonous for my liking, but placed in an early progressive DJ-set, I can imagine it would work wonders. 03. D-Nox & Beckers - You're A Star (Club Version) [129 BPM] D-Nox and especially Beckers are in flying form at the moment, playing everywhere worth mentioning and releasing some of the biggest progressive partyhits in the last few years. "You're A Star" was originally released on the "Outsider" compilation on Plastik Park earlier this year, and while I didn't really connect to the original, this club version is better. This is mainly based on the fact that the main vocal-line is heavily filtered and isn't quite as dominant - but overall the entire track feels much more polished and harmonic. 04. Thomas Penton - Inside Me [130 BPM] Thomas Penton is one of the first progressive house artists that caught my attention, and "Inside Me" is more or less your average Penton-trademark tune. From the first second there's a hint of his well-known tribal percussion, and the track evolves without any major surprises. Not his finest creation to date: very predictable, but without a doubt a true dance floor pleaser. 05. Tetraktys - Vergence [135 BPM] Mainly based on his Tetraktys debut-album, I have for some time considered the French Vincent Courcot as one of the most underrated progressive producers, and while the Tetraktys project now is getting slightly in the background, due to the success of his other project Motion, it's great to see that he's still making fine techish tunes. The sounds in "Vergence" are very metallic, and everything seems to fit perfectly - a very sophisticated production, and in my opinion one of the better techtrance creations by Tetraktys. 06. Martin H - Bolido (Inkfish Remix) [129 BPM] The Swedish Martin H is present with "Bolido", a track remixed by Inkfish (also from Sweden), originally released on Spiral Trax' sidelabel ACDC earlier this year. A sweet tune with a really catchy hook, subtle pads and a nice, steady groove - quite laidback and well made for home listening, but don't let that fool you - pump up the volume, and you'll discover that this is a heavy dance floor bomb as well. 07. Motion - XXL [138 BPM] Vincent Courcot appears on the compilation once again, this time under his more house-oriented Motion-project. "XXL" is a bit faster and more pumping than usual though, more experimental and with clever breaks and a cheerful, bouncy groove. Not quite what I expected, but a very fun and funky tune nevertheless. 08. D. Sens - Enjoy The Silence (Remix) [128 BPM] "Enjoy The Silence" comes from another Frenchman, Mattheiu Delepau, - perhaps known as being part of the Lunaspice duo, but this time he's on his own as D.Sens. The similarities to Lunaspace are obvious though - this is seriously deep stuff, with a very broad sound spectrum and an enchanting, dreamy atmosphere. Despite maybe going on for a few minutes too much, this is one of my favourites. 09. Vibrasphere - Bitter Deep [132 BPM] (Bonus Track) The bonus track proves to be my absolute favourite on the CD - the Swedish maestros of smooth, caressing sounds Vibrasphere provide one of their best tunes for a while. They always had a special way of combining soft ambient influences with trance, and "Bitter Deep" is no exception. It's quite similar to their stuff on "Lime Structure", but slower and with a deeper, more chilled atmosphere - a sweet and very enjoyable tune to end the compilation Bottom line: The list of artists on "Tokyo Underground" is quite impressive, and I can't say that I was disappointed with the product. There's a well-balanced mix between progressive house, progressive trance and even some techtrance, and generally the quality is good with no tracks completely failing - but with a few more truly outstanding tunes, it would have been a great release. That said, it is one of the better compilations I have bought lately, and if progressive is your thing, I doubt you'll regret buying it. Favourites: 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (!!) Loved the first 2 albums from him, and his morning-set on the alternative stage at VooV 2002 was amazing. Heard him at VooV again this year, this time on the mainstage, and it was a huge disappointment. I do like some full on, but his set sounded very standard, and not very "S>Range'ish" to me.

I was never a big fan of Shiva Chandra - I liked a lot of the releases as his sideproject Auricular though. The only Shiva Chandra album that I kindda liked was "Subsonic" - ironically also his worst according to many of his dedicated fans. I couldn't at all connect to his latest album "Change Of Air". The melodies seem off-tune, the samples are corny and the grooves are weak - to be honest I found the whole thing kind of pointless. That's more or less the case with a lot of the "german" progressive at the moment - especially the stuff coming out from labels like Sinn Tec (with a few exceptions).

I agree that this album is made with homelistening in mind, but after experiencing Jaïa live at VooV Experience this year, I must say it's totally mindblowing on the dancefloor as well. Without a doubt the best set I've heard so far this year.

Torsten Edwinson, a former member of psychedelic acts Masada and Klegg with releases on StoneAge, Inpsyde and Tsunami, has received lots attention for his releases on Dance n Dust and Groove Zone in the last year, while Andy Yakovlev (Sonify) has released on labels like Yellow Sunshine Explosion, Kagdila and Oxygen as a member of Sound Field, and with his soloproject ProSect. "No More Silence" is the first release from their new collaboration, and the fact that it is released on the sidelabel of one of the biggest progressive labels, Baroque, has really raised expectations. Let's see if they can live up to them. A. Threshold Prod. & Sonify - No More Silence (Original Mix) [125 BPM] The original of "No More Silence" starts of with a kinky vocal, followed by a lazy, yet very attractive groove. Around 1 minute into the track we get the first hint of the overall theme of the tune - a guitar, which plays a simple, yet quite delicious melody. Some big, evolving pads enter before the lovely breakdown in the middle of the track, and after this it's pretty straight grooving, until the appearance of some slightly full on'ish synth-stabs in the background in the last couple of minutes. Good tune, relatively fresh sounds and no wonder why Baroque picked this one up. AA. Threshold Prod. & Sonify - No More Silence (Damien Heck's Feroshi Gets Fierce Mix)[130 BPM] The Canadian progressive producer Damien Heck provides the remix, and his approach is definitely more in the straightforward progressive trance/house territory. There is a lot more emphasis on a faster, harder groove than in the original, and the big, uplifting sounds and melodies are taken one step further. The result is great, and to be honest it's my preferred mix - not highly original, but very smooth and enjoyable. Bottom line: "No More Silence" is definitely a worthy debut for the two psy-producers on the more club-oriented progressive scene, and while it probably won't go down in history as an essential release, both mixes are of a pretty high quality. Not for every fan of the progressive psytrance sound, but the progressive house/psy crossover listeners are adviced to give it a listen. I couldn't agree more. I find the Torakka album way better than the, in my opinion, way overhyped releases from Tranceform and especially Suntrip. Not just an imitation of "the good old days", but also a release that I felt had something new to tell.

Well, I've heard a lot of very famous DJ's in the psyscene mess up the simplest beatmixes. Goa Gil of course comes to mind, but he's definitely not the only one. Sad thing that you don't have to be very good at mixing to get gigs in the psytrance scene - even at big parties and festivals. All it takes is a label or artist-status.

Don't know what to think really. On one hand the sound is really pleasant and enjoyable with some sweet melodies, but on the other hand it didn't provide any of those "wow, this is awesome" moments like on the first Andromeda album. Anders Nilsson has had some excellent years with albums as both Soul Surfer, Chromosome and Andromeda, but he really need to get some new ideas and evolve his sound. My favourite track is by the way the remix of "Imploded" (why isn't Sound Field credited on the cover?). Biggest disappointment is the remix of "The Collective" from 12 Moons' excellent "Solid State" album. It was the main reason why I bought this release, but I found that it is nowhere near the quality of the original. This isn't at all a bad release, but I feel it's all been done before. Still hoping the real new Andromeda album will be as good as the first one though

Maybe it's because it's the official release information coming directly from the label? Come on, do you think a label would diss their own release? And at this point Psyshop isn't different from the other shops, so can't seriously see why you guys are complaining about it.

Neurobiotic comes to mind as a label that isn't sold at Psyshop anymore.
