  1. not sure if its strictly dubstep, but ive been liking milanese a lot lately. sorta in the same vein as boxcutter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkfPdXF-tTI
  2. its somewhere towards the middle of the second season i think, after the dude starts to recover from being run over by a bus. its definitely psy all right.
  3. other than juno reactor's matrix tracks i cant think of any movies ive seen that have psytrance in the soundtrack other than "once upon a time in mexico" which had some remix of that juno reactor track pistolero. i definitely want to check out zohan and man on fire now though! however, in the british teen drama show 'skins' theres an episode where the characters go to a club and there is very definitely psytrance in the background; and in another episode the characters talk about going to tribe of frog in bristol.
  4. so ive seen every episode of caprica now, and while i like the atmosphere, the acting, and the music, this whole "vworld" thing is starting to get a little ridiculous. i hope they do less of that in future episodes.
  5. my all time favorites are battlestar galactica, the wire, and the sopranos. ive been liking caprica a lot also lately; i just itunesed the first 2 seasons of big love and have been getting into that. my new favorite though is the bbc comedy 'the thick of it', about inept british politicians. the dialogue is just hilarious, even for someone without a great deal of knowledge about the british governmental system. check it out
  6. I've really gotten into this guy over the last year or so; basically I think he's written the most imaginative and well thought-out sci-fi ive read in a long time. I just finished "against a dark background" and it might be my favorite of his yet. I havent read many of the culture novels (only excession and use of weapons) but i was well impressed by those also. Anyone else here into him? Whats your favorite?
  7. my budget is roughly 500-600$US and no i dont have a DAC and you may have a point about the crap, my brothers roommate apparently has the 320s of the same line and they do indeed sound pretty bad
  8. hey all. im thinking of picking up a set of alesis m1active 520 usb monitors as they are relatively affordable and connect directly via usb which is a large plus for me at the moment. does anyone have any experience w/ alesis monitors? would this be a good choice or not? i am not a rank beginner at production (i know my way around the sequencers and vsts) but im by no means experienced and have never worked w/ monitors... thanks in advance
  9. sardool sikander: patte gaye ni munde -- nachna sakh mana hai
  10. and i cant really put him solidly into dubstep; but youre right, i cant really call him idm either
  11. just like everyone else i have a hard time demarcating genres here, but ill give it a go nonetheless (btw these arent ordered by preference or anything, theyre just my favorite artists at the moment). 1. richard d. james 2. squarepusher 3. the flashbulb/benn jordan 4. kettel 5. venetian snares 6. bit_meddler (only one demo sadly) 7. edIT 8. boxcutter 9. plaid 10. telefon tel aviv
  12. the remake of battlestar galactica for sure...
  13. pretty much anything by kool keith is pretty good--totally far out stuff, he's certifiably insane i believe--especially dr. octgagon--octagonacologist. that's probably my favorite hip hop album of all time: more awesome sci-fi rap comes from deltron3030 (this may have been mentioned already, but deserves saying again imo). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5aocYRShXM many solo albums by dudes from the wu-tang are great, specifically gza's 'liquid swords' and raekwon's 'only built 4 cuban linx' also, ive got a real love of the really old school stuff like krs-one, brand nubian, public enemy, etc. etc. and i cant forget to mention the albums that got me into rap in the first place, back when i was a teenager: dr. dre's 'the chronic' and snoop dogg's 'doggystyle'. both are amazing and still get played to this day, 17 years later, at parties and on the radio.
  14. who are your favorite dub artists? ive been listening to a lot of old school dub over the years and really got back into it after mad professor played here in seattle recently. so, what do you guys recommend? some of my favorites are lee 'scratch' perry (of course): mad professor: scientist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OLccug3RKU iration steppas:
  15. are these all supposedly "psychedelic trance" covers? i dont stay up on new music really but if i had to go by some of these covers i'd believe all the "psytrance is dead" ranting...
  16. now there's a whole journal dedicated to this; its not strictly psy/goa but there are several articles that seem to be about that scene. haven't read any of them yet... http://dj.dancecult.net/index.php/journal/index edit: the journal is edited by the abovementioned graham st. john as it turns out...
  17. my favorites have to be "total recall" and "the sixth day" but theyre all pretty solid. also, i was fucking disgusted by the movie they made from the computer game "doom". growing up i always imagined schwarzenegger playing the space marine that descends into hell; not only did they cast the rock it also had nothing to do with hell at all. i fucking walked out of it halfway through...
  18. yeah, i listened to him a lot for a while too. i need to get supermodified again, that albums was fucking awesome. i also liked 'out from out where' and 'bricolage' a lot, but theyre all pretty great. i missed his appearance here in seattle by 3 days
  19. the samples are very nice. ive never heard of this guy, does he have any other releases?
  20. i just relocated from ohio to seattle (a lifelong dream) but as of yet i havent seen much in the way of psy or goa parties here. anyone other psynews members around? anything good or regular here? drop me a line...
  21. the excision shambhala 2009 mix is up; i havent listened yet (dling now) but im sure itll be sublime: http://excision.crabdance.com/Excision_-_Shambhala_2009_Dubstep_Mix.mp3
  22. the lineup looks good and im relatively close by (in dresden), and since full moon was canceled id like to find something else before i go home aug. 1. i dont really have the funds to go to ozora or boom etc. is this one good? anyone go last year/planning on going this year? thanks, --gallowglass
  23. i know, i just found out yesterday. damnit.
  24. personally i thought metabolic activity was the most badass
  25. soon hopefully, i think im going this year but id like to know...
