The State of Fullon 2011

wow, so many replies in so short time. psynews is indeed a lot more busy since offtopic was reopened....

Do you happen to know any songs/artists in this style?

i was afraid of that question, as i'm not up to date with regards to fullon and heard the best examples in dj sets by local dj's. but i'll still try to look for examples on youtube:

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFtsg0x6suA&feature=related

and also this one: Dickster & Burn In Noise - The Wibbler

the first sounds a bit too much like generic fullon, while the second is a bit too melodic and lacks a bit in atmosphere, but these are the closest things i've found (things really sound different when hearing them on a big soundsytem). some of the tracks in the thread also fit nicely, especially the EVP one, the aphid moon track is also close, but better because of the melodies ;)

Some more artists that create non cheesy highly melodic twilight or full on-ish sounds

Deliriant

Slug

Brethren

Tickets

Tryambaka

Sick Addiction

EMP

Sattel Battle

Dark Nebula (although his last album was too cheesy)

there's also that EP in my signature :P

Off your list, I can recommend "Tickets" for sure (one part of Brethren, the other part being "Phyx", they are real-life brothers).

One of my all-time favorites! Check it out:

Tickets - Power Of Fear

Tickets - Tinnitus (including unique 8-bit feeling with one of the most memorable transitions in a track EVER)

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfZqyALqM8E

Slug has become too cheesy, but that's just my opinion/taste.

Since we already spoke of Brethren and Tickets, let's not forget the other Summs brother, Phyx. If you only check out one track, make sure it's "Evolver", if you check one track by Shift, make sure it's "Pump".

//Oh and Edith says, that the only "real" full-on artist I still like and listen to from time to time is RAZ (Raz Kfir), e.g. (h)ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXSOmpFuBYE. His last efforts are available at ektoplazm, http://www.ektoplazm.com/2011/raz-static-noises and http://www.ektoplazm.com/2010/raz-recorded-dreams

I prefer to call that Twilight. There's no cheese in it, it's more complicated than the normal full on and most importantly the bass is not the main element in the track.

But it's pretty full on-ish I agree with that.

This is the definition of full-on to me, the risers, super cheesy sound design and arrangement defines what I call full on.

Obviously people like this kind of music and that is fair enough.

Peace out.

These are 3 examples of music that people call full on, but I don't, I just call it psy-trance because there are a lot of elements that bring my mind back to the late '90s psy-trance i.e. the trance with 16th single saw basslines yet had a nice balance of acid (and especially in the case of the Dickster - Burn In Noise track), proggy elements. It has that vibe with the added "modern" production which for this style, I quite like.

Its not re-inventing the wheel, its good dance music to get lost into, as it lacks the cheesy leads and in your face risers and noise of what people call Twilight music, which to me is the definition of full on as it is full with cheese and lacks any kind of depth.

Peace out.

To add some more examples besides being a promo twat;

...and basically this mini mix from Tristan.

Peace out.

Sorry but this is why I don't like Full On. No variation at all, annoying bass and just seven minutes of big, empty nothing.

For me Tristan was never interesting especially since he went to Full On.

Tastes are tastes.

Anyway another awesome track although pure twilight and more aggressive, but still morning enough.

i see why you wouldn't call this fullon and it indeed reminds me of pre-fullon psytrance, but as music like that would be called fullon when i started to go to parties i guess it will remain fullon for me :)

i agree with the rest of your post and that tristan track is indeed a nice example. me like!
