Breaking up with music

There have been about 6 months since the last time I really dedicated to a track. Remember that project which I was involved with lives act and all that? Well, I quit it..... I left the project cause I dont have the time and proper settings

 

It all started around december and settled it down a few weeks later. All related to a bunch of life sucking resource problems that I have and they have several subcategories but I may say the root one is the basic finish-my-studies-and-get-a-real-job kind of problem.

 

The funny part is that I know this is not the end of it. I know one day Im gonna be back at the all night making music and getting that rush when it finally start to reveal itself, to take shape

 

I've actually put a date of my return. It will be around the end of this year, probably in december, just to close an year...Nah I'm kidding, it will be because it is the date set to graduate, which I believe is more tiresome that a lot of real work out there. The time I produced the most was when I worked in night shifts and went to the University during the day, but I was at no process of graduation. I cant use all the energy that making music takes when I have to spare it in order to, well, graduate.

 

Also, I have never been more creative at this break up. I have all those new fresh ideas I want to experiment, but I know what it will cost me. So I will wait untill I actually have the disposition to make music once again

 

And what I want from this topic? That you, share your experience if you ever had a great period of time away from music.

As far as I'm concerned, music is an intimate relationship. Therefore, I expect it to come and go. If it's a good relationship, it will last for years. If a bad one, days, with vast stretches of fantasizing with (listening to) other people's music, which is the equivalent of porn. If I'm not listening to other people's music very much, but am creating a lot, I know I'm in love.

 

My various relationships and break-ups with music have exactly mirrored my maturity, my relationships with women, with human beings in general, and with my universe, since I started 20 years ago. Most of it was very naive, all of it was necessary for learning, and very little of it has been completely genuine. With this very clear logic I know that in order to make the best music I'll ever make, I have to first learn how to love myself completely, which of course will reflect in my relationships with others, which will reflect in my music. Very simple. Very complicated.

Yep I've had that time away from music before stalker. Somewhere around June 2006 I decided I should start my military service a little early, as I was scheduled for 2007, but I went in August 2006, 2 weeks after my 18th bday. 6 long months have passed, the only thing I could think of was coming back home, getting back to my friends, and more importantly, my music. You would think you can just resume with your work, but life didn't intend it to be that way. I had to get a job, and to this day (I've quit my job a few days ago) I've never had the free time to actually make something out of it. I would allways come back home either exhausted, or I had some other plans to do. Well I'm job-free again, need to sell a few things now to upgrade my studio and then I'm back on track. This should happen very soon now. Anywho just wanted to say that before the army service I was working on music daily, it fascinated me so much and I kept going on exploring in the world of music making. Hopefully I'll get that feeling back and start working full-time on music, rather then on some shitty job just to cover some bills

Well, the same thing has been happening to me since last 3years.The bottom line is if you want to produce , please dont give it up, no matter how busy you are right now.I can touch my music production only on weekends and sometimes that too is not possible but ideas do keep revolving around me all the time and you should get into the habit of writing them down(which i have to get into too).

 

When you are not busy with other things, you will eventually come back and try to produce something and at that time these ideas will help you.I am also fed up at times when I cannot produce the right thing and sometimes it takes months but after lots of hardwork when you reach very near to it, you will realize that it was worth spending time on.But studies and work is first

I find its best not to have the stress of other things in the way while making something.

Although if they are just little things, making something is good to forget everything else.

in between my creative phases (1-2 weeks, that's how long it takes to finish a track), there are weeks and months of not making music. that is due to school: i basically only have time for music when there are no exams coming up in the course of one month, which is rare, or during holidays. of course i would have an hour or so per day to make music, but, as ninja said, i don't like to have other things in mind while making music. i can't work on music when i know that there's a huge biology exam coming up in two weeks or so. i like to dedicate myself fully to what i am doing; the most important thing is always the one that i'm working on in the very moment.

I can relate with that.

Last time I was involved on my music I pratically never listened to anything. Now that Im on a break I listen quite a lot, and got some weird urgency desire for dodgy music
