  1. Artist: Xshade & Loopstep Title: Double Reaction EP Label: Iono Music Date: 22-06-2010 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Double Reaction 2. Light In Motion 3. Inside The Madness Here's a great EP I discovered recently. After hearing Xshade's and Loopstep's 'From Another Planet', it wasn't long before I looked up more stuff from these producers. I ended up getting this EP and I can't say I'm disappointed. All the tracks have more of a darker feel to it. Still very slick with one touch effects with focus on the atmosphere. I must say Double Reaction really awakened near the end. It was almost like the melodies were hiding out a little, to give me a nice surprise for being lost in the track as long as I was. There guys have got everything in there hands by making these tracks as tight and compact as they did. When they think the time is right they make you speed up, slow down. Whatever suits the moment and whatever can surprise you. Light In Motion and Inside The Madness are no different. They use a bit of a deeper approach to make everything unfold near the end. You have to take your time when listening to this kind of stuff, nothing cheap and commercial to be found here. Great job! Links: http://www.beatport....ction-ep/254999

  3. Artist: Reverse Title: Reverse EP Label: Iono Music Date: 01-05-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Klopfgeister - Good Bye Goa (Reverse Remix) 2. Progenitor - Soundreflex (Reverse Remix) 3. Reverse - End Of Line (Time In Motion Remix) 4. Reverse - End Of Line (Loopstep Remix) I stumbled upon this EP after hearing some good remixes from Reverse. Seeing some familiar names on the tracklist, I was extra curious to see what these tracks would bring. The first one is a great opener. I like the original Good Bye Goa from Klopfsgeister as well but this remix seems more powerful and full to me. Good piece of work. Next is Reverse's take on Soundreflex. He made the original as well, since he's half of the Progenitor project. It's a solid and dreamy track at the same time, especially almost at the end of the track where he let's you drift of one last time. I think this would work at home, just as well as playing it on the dance floor. I have to say halfway the song I was lost in the music. Before I knew the song ended. So you can say it did the job. The last 2 tracks are remixes coming from Time In Motion and Loopstep, for the End Of Line track. I enjoyed a lot of there albums and EP's so I expected some good music and I have to say they gave me exactly what I was looking for. Time In Motion is first, carrying on with the hypnotic vibes that I was getting from the first two tracks. It's as steady as can be and everything seems perfectly balanced out. Loopstep's version is slightly more slick and tight if you will. Both remixes took me on a very relaxing ride. Two different takes, but both of them have a great drive. I couldn't choose a favorite. If you like most of the other Iono sounds, I have a feeling you will be just in your element with this EP. It's the kind of progressive you can't go wrong with, hypnotic and more on the deeper side of things. Great stuff! Links: http://www.beatport....erse-e-p/899974
  4. Hi everyone! Based in Hamburg, Germany for almost 8 years we had a Progressive Trance Project called "Phyler". Maybe even some of you have heard of us, although we didn't release a lot of tracks. However, some time ago we quit the project. Cleaning up my computer I've found these years-old progressive trance tracks that we've made and that are slowly gathering dust on my hard disk. They are all unreleased, unmastered and some of them, especially the old ones, are in a horrible sound quality, but still it would be a pitty to let them rot on the hard disk. We've played them in several live-sets but apart from that always kept the tracks under tight wraps, but now that we've quit, we've decided to let you people out there listen to what we've produced over the years. Maybe we can still put a smile on someone's face. This is what we made music for in the first place. We've uploaded a collection of our tunes on Youtube. Enjoy! Feedback is still welcome as we put our heart, souls and creativity into our music for many years. Cheers and thanks for listening, Phyler Here's the link to our channel: http://www.youtube.c...ser/PhylerTunes
  5. Artist: Various Title: Audiophile Vol. 3 Label: Spintwist Records Date: September, 2012 1. Arped VAISHIYAS 2. Modern Terms PHAXE 3. Deep and Pumping Sound (Day.Din rmx) AUDIOMATIC 4. Extraordinary FABIO AND MOON 5. Count Down INTERACTIVE NOISE 6. Spin Spirit (Audiomatic and Vaishiyas rmx) KRAMA 7. Automatik SIDEFORM 8. Up on you COM!NG SOON 9. Transformation AQUAFEEL 10. Dr. Lupo (Audiomatic rmx) ACE VENTURA AND ROCKY That crazy microphone from the 50's is back at it for the third installment of the Audiophile series. Spintwist is one of the more prolific labels with regards to progressive trance and while not one of my favorites I'm a bit of a completionist. True, I keep collecting all the seasons of The Simpsons on DVD even when they stopped being funny a while ago. So with that piece of info there was no way I was going to let this fly under the radar. The usual suspects are represented and it looks fairly impressive. Arped is a great way to open with catchy bass and a huge beat. A good time track to be sure. The problem for me is that this label then tends to go off the reservation after hooking me with the first track. Phaxe did an adequate job, but the Pumping Sound remix left the melodic frontier and hung out in weird sound techno town. Extraordinary picked up right where the previous track dumped me with harsh metallic sounds and pain in the ass house-like samples. Whattya want it's from DJ Fabio, I shoulda seen it coming. Countdown has an interesting break, but its lack of evolution bores me. The Spin Spirit remix has more agonizingly repeated samples that make it unlistenable. Automatik brings some much needed Balkan talent to the compilation, but even they can't save this. At this point it's a bit like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Just when I thought it couldn't get more pathetic Up On You proves me wrong with the embarrassing "I want you" sample. Ugh I'd rather slam my fingers in a car door than go through that again. Aquafeel has made some good tracks to be sure, but this ain't one of them. Somehow he managed to make it sound as if he was covering Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene. The momentum (typed that with a straight face I did) killing phone call and mouth music also had me rubbing my temples. Finally (Thank God) the Audiomatic remix of Dr. Lupo closes things out and is actually not bad. It has a catchy melody and no stupid sample to screw it up. Dr. Huxtable can I get a ruling on this? Oy what a sh*tshow that was. This was a descent into me throwing my headphones across the room and fighting the urge to clean my floors. Obviously there is a market for this type of progressive trance, but if you like the deeply atmospheric and melodic stuff look elsewhere. The cover tells the whole story as he's hanging on for dear life. Another performance like that and he might try to hang himself with his own cord. Psyshop Beatspace GoaStore Mdk
  6. Artist: Yotopia & Sphera Title: Focal point Label: Echoes Records Date: 12-03-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Yotopia & Sphera - Focal Point 2. Yotopia & Sphera - Vertigo Focal Point is a killer. The first track alone shows that this EP is a great combination between 3 Israeli producers. I would like to think of it as progressive that doesn't take itself to serious and allows a bit more of a playful vibe. Around 2 minutes it gets really good and that's when the track really takes over. Smashing and hypnotic at the same time. Good job on the brakes as well, it gives you enough time to catch your breath before taking it to the next level again. If you feel a little sleepy Vertigo is another one that wakes you up immediately. Full of energy and life! While listening closely you kind of get a clue of what elements both teams brought in during this collaboration. The result is stunning and at 5 minutes it gets better than I ever expected.. great job! If you like Vertical Mode's albums and other progressive that is leaning a little towards full on, I would suggest you give this album a shot. 7. Artist: Egorythmia Title: Night Sight EP Label: Iono Music Date: 15-10-2008 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Egorythmia - Night Sight 2. Egorythmia - We Can Fly Most of you familiar with the finest progressive trance, will know Egorythmia. Here's a short 2 track EP from this Macedonian producer, containing the tracks Night Sight and We Can Fly. Night Sight is a nice one. It has a very dark feel to it and the bass line remind me a bit of some Ectima tracks. Heavy, deep at the same time and certainly not the regular stuff we're used to hearing. Now I don't think this track is bad at all. But after hearing the Flegma & Nerso remix of it (on the remix album) it's kind of hard to say that the original is very special. I mean, the remixed track has such a good drive with stomping beats.. truly amazing. Just go ahead and listen to it yourself. We Can Fly is my favorite from this EP. Every effect seems in place and to me it's probably one of Egortyhmia's best tracks. I remember hearing it at a party once, not long after I discovered this track. It was about 4 or 5 in the morning and the crowd went crazy. I can't blame them either. Hearing something like this on good speakers and in a wide open area really brings out the best of it. I noticed stuff I never even heard before. Those of you who like there progressive deep, dark and powerful at the same time, will be right in their element with this EP. 8. Artist: Infinity Title: Control Group Label: Iono Records Date: August, 2011 1. Traditional ways of healing (Remake 2011) 2. Ghost of Sparta 3. Lost in the sunlight 4. Alcoholism 5. Techniques 6. Arkham City 7. Car Accident 8. Control Group 9. From the depths of the underworld "Chaos will be unleashed." I've undergone a life change Dial it back a bit tough guy. But that make up job is stunning. No nothing so drastic. I'm trying to eat better and work out more. See, I was humbled athletically for the first time. Been a high level athlete all my life, but the class I took at the gym had me feeling every bit of my advanced age. Couldn't even finish it, and it made me realize that my 20's were waaay back in the rear view. Hell, I can barely see the thirties these days. So out with the fast food and sugary drinks and in with boatloads of water, salads, and fruit. Or as I like to call it...my de-Americanization. This is Nick Karamalakis from Greece with a smooth and flowing debut album of progressive trance. Since it's from Iono you have a better chance of seeing a Cool as Ice sequel than this blowing chunks. I'm begging you...begging...make this happen. Until then surround yourself with top notch stuff loaded with floating melodies and drifting atmosphere that has a dark tone to it. Look at the track titles...Alcoholism, Car Accident, From the Depths of the Underworld? Is this release autobiographical? And if so I hope he gets the help that he needs. The phrases seem to go on forever, which I suppose makes sense based on the artist's name. Easy to get lost in and more than once I had to hit the repeat button because my mind was carried away. As is the style of Iono artists, effects ricochet throughout, giving the tracks massive depth. Samples are well placed and not overdone (you know the ones you've heard ad nauseum) and breaks are so full of emotion that you could reach out and touch the streams. Well, Ghosts of Sparta are wet with you know what and Arkham City is rife with Batman samples as one would expect, but for a touch of surreality listen to the samples in car accident. Did he do a ride-along and bring his sampler with him? So very good stuff from Nick. Very descriptive and he fills every space. Reminds me of E-clip's Shuma. Highly recommended. 9. Artist: Protonica Title: Form Follows Function Label: Iono Music Date: 17-08-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Login 2. Greece 3. Subground 4. Serotonin Overdose (Protonica Remix) 5. Motion Control 6. Floating Point (Liquid Soul Remix) 7. Modification 8. Codes 9. Emerge I expected this release to be a real good one. For the simple reason that Protonica has really impressed me with there previous work and the fact that they haven't released anything in a long time. So my hopes were high and somehow my ears were dying to hear this. After the short Login intro track this album starts of with Greece. It's an extremely solid track, going straight forward like progressive should. All the effects during the song seem in place and as I'm listening I notice what made me like there style in the first place. It's not over the top, no cheap vibes or overdone voice-samples. Just straight up trance, in it's purest form. Subground really reminds me of there older work, taking you higher and higher using a basic yet original method. One of my favorite tracks from this album, bringing things back to the source. Serotonin Overdose is another killer and I have to say they did a great job on this remix. The original done by Rocky & Ace Ventura was ok but I prefer this one. It's just a little more solid so to say. Motion Control is a good follow up. At first it didn't really do it for me, it couldn't hold my attention all the way. But after a few more listens I could dig it somehow. Now the original Floating Point was probably my favorite track from Protonica all time. So when I read Liquid Soul was going to remix this one, I was really wondering what he would bring. The original track matched the title for me, it got me to a floating point many times. It's hard to describe the remix from the old one, but let's say it's put in to a slightly newer and modern jacket. For me both work just fine, but I must say the original stays very special to me. Modification is another favorite, if not my favorite. Slowly taking me further and further in a sort of minimal style. Actually all the tracks are made in a minimal way more or less. This track displays the power and originality of the entire album in my opinion, that sometimes less is more. Codes kind of brings out the oldskool progressive style that lies within there music. It was fun listening to but after a lot of Protonica tracks I find that it isn't there best work. Emerge is another track that exists out of simple trance-waves, keeping things basic. Great way to bring this album to an end. After listening to the whole album I realize how you can create something extremely special in a simple way, that really brings out the best in trance. I recommend listening to each track from the beginning. Protonica's tracks intend to evolve in a slow progressing way and seem to just go with the flow. This way you really get to feel and experience the build ups. Also I seem to find it ok that a song takes so long to build up because it is clear that there is a story to tell in each track. So overall this is a great album in my opinion. When it comes to melodic progressive trance, it's probably one of the best releases of the year. If you want to take a listen before buying it, I suggest checking out there Soundcloud. 10. Artist: Vaishiyas Title: Spacelord Remixes Label: Spin Twist Records Date: 23-03-2010 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Vaishiyas - Spacelord (Float Remix) 2. Vaishiyas - Spacelord (E-Clip Remix 3. Vaishiyas - Spacelord (Zyce Remix) 4. Vaishiyas - Spacelord (Flegma & Nerso Remix) 5. Vaishiyas - Spacelord (Ectima Remix) 6. Vaishiyas - Spacelord (Original Mix) The original Spacelord is a nice one, not your typical progressive. It's very melodic from the start but a little later it develops in to a tight and solid track in a sort of smart way. Good job by Vaishiyas, this German producer set the standards high with the original and now it's time for the guys of TesseractStudio to show what they can do with it. The first to remix is Float, making it very minimal. Now don't get me a wrong, I'm a fan of the more minimalistic music myself but at first this one seemed a little to calm. At the beginning it didn't do it for me, but I gave it a few more listens while concentrating on the song and it made me understand the track a little bit better. Not as energetic as the other stuff on this album but I love how Float left the melody alive and throws this in during the break. Not bad after all. E-Clip is next with a heavy take on the original. Straight away he comes in with powerful bass lines and super effective touches, making this track an absolute killer. One of my favorite remixes without a doubt. Zyce takes a whole different turn, giving things a bit of a tribal groove with the necessary percussion during the song. Still he's not forgetting to keep things very melodic and warm. Now the Flegma & Nerso remix is my ultimate favorite track of this release. It's a perfect mix of melodic trance, straight forward progression and stomping beats. Things are made a bit more spacey, after all the original is called Spacelord. Everything about this track is very intelligent and the brake halfway the song really got me going. Perfect floater, just this track alone is almost worth getting the whole album! Last but not least is the Ectima remix. It doesn't flow as smoothly and crispy as the other tracks and I must say I have heard better Ectima tracks and remixes. But never the less it's a fun little track in my opinion, with more of a darker feel to it. The whole setting and the way E-Clip, Flegma & Nerso, Zyce and Ectima appear in this album, reminds me a lot of the Multistop Remixes album, by Ritmo and NOK. One by one they basically deliver the same quality as on the other remix album and they stayed extremely loyal to there style. Not saying these remixes look just like the Multistop remixes, but they did exactly what was expected of them. Great job! Links: http://www.beatport....-remixes/222986 http://www.spintwist.de/
  11. Artist: Synesthetic Title: On Da Way EP Label: Iono Music Date: 20-07-2010 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Critical Method 2. Going Further 3. On Da Way 4. Sticky Finger Synesthetic have made a lot of good tracks, released on several compilations. This On Da Way EP contains some more beauties and the entire album has a very deep vibe to it. It's fair to say there music is all about moving forward in a rather slow and calm way. It allows you to float away peacefully and I can't say there was a track that didn't let me do that. Critical Method is a nice one to start with but it's not my favorite. There's just more going on with the other tracks that it doesn't fully stand out. Never the less not a bad track. Going Further is when the groove makes it's entrance and they didn't lie about the title at all. Some fine hypnotic progressive this is. On Da Way is a little more powerful and melodic, it makes an amazing follow up and very deep once again. It's hard to choose but I think the last track Sticky Finger, is my favorite track of all. It's a very unique take on things and it just has a great drive. It doesn't get boring for a second and that's not always an easy job with a 10 minute track. What more can I say, these guys truly know how to make some good trance. Sometimes I'm in the mood to close my eyes for a while to just fully concentrate on the music. Now and then I'm still surprised how much music can make you drift of if you just let yourself go and let the music do it's thing. For these occasions I usually play some stuff from Synesthetic as it's perfect for that mood. It doesn't give me a chaotic feeling but the opposite actually, rather smooth and always in balance. There style could be described as a mixture of progressive trance and progressive house and that's just perfect for me. Highly recommended! 12. Title: Progressive Classics Vol.1 Label: Iono Music Date: 24-08-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 01. Kaempfer & Dietze - Shear Force (Jerome Isma-ae & Daniel Portman Remix) 02. Minoru - Upload 03. Frogacult - All Seasons (Freq's third Remix) 04. Nyquist - Ghostrider 05. Funky Dragon - Yellow Summer 06. Timedrained - Sacha 07. Midimal - Over & Out (Klopfgeister Remix) 08. Time in Motion - Shadowgaze 09. Sinister Silence vs. Sartil - Heaven and Hell 10. Andromeda - Sensations (Aquafeel Remix) 11. Suntree - Comparable Worlds 12. ARW - Searching For New Levels 13. MUTe - Space n Time (Ritmo Remix) 14. Egorythmia - Distant Point 15. Ritmo - Practical 16. Flegma & Nerso - Altitude (with E-Clip) 17. Ovnimoon - Galactic Mantra (With Via axis and ItomLab) 18. Protonica - Airflow (Live Edit) 19. Ritmo - Rapture (Gaudium Remix) 20. Motion Drive - Heart Of The Sun I was waiting for this release a little while now. When they announced it I had a good look at the tracklist and immediately decided I had to get my hands on it. A lot of great Iono classics are on here, including some of my all time favorites. All bundled in to one album, how great! Now as there are 20 tracks on this album, I will comment on those that deserve the attention. It's just gonna take to long otherwise. It starts of light, with a remix for Kaempfer & Dietze's (aka Protonica) Shear Force. It's a combination of progressive trance and a touch of house music. If you ask me this one goes down really well, great way to get this VA going from the start. I had a fun time listening to All Seasons (Freq Third Remix), but I couldn't call this a special track that has a lot to offer, it's to chaotic for me. A lot going on, but I don't feel like this one is really going somewhere. Over & Out is a great track. Klopfgeister is all about going straight forward, no weird interruptions or unnecessary brakes. Very catchy since the melody stays in my head. This Midimal track is remixed by Flegma & Nerso and Seven11 as well and I can't say any of the remixes disappointed me. Shadowgaze is another lovely one. Great follow up from the last track, it matches really well. Time In Motion really did a great job, some fine relaxing progressive trance this is. Comparable World is one of the many songs that did it for me. Suntree delivered some solid stuff. It's a track to stomp the ground with, still it's kind of dreamy and I think the combination is what makes this a good track. Distant Point by Egorythmia is a much darker track than the others and it's one of the better ones from this release. I can say the same for Practical. It sounds smooth to my ears and so do a lot of other Ritmo tracks actually. So far some wonderful tracks but in my opinion Jensson kept the best for last. Altitude, by Flegma, Nerso and E-Clip was already one of my favorite tracks. It was released on there album Opposite, together with a bunch of other beauties. But it fits in just as well on this release. It's heavy, hypnotic with a lot of appropriate echoing and it gives you the feeling like there is plenty of room for everything in this track. I swear, every time I hear this song I can't stop moving. Perfect, what else can I say. Airflow is another one that clearly stands out. Again moving as forward as you can while remaining tight and sharp. I love it when you get the feeling there is a destination this track is heading to. What more do you want from Protonica, one of there best tracks if you ask me. Heart Of The Sun is in one word breathtaking. I know I have mentioned to have a lot of favorites in some reviews, but this is for sure in my top 3 of all time favorite tracks. Possibly even the best. It's hard since I have a shit load of music, but I have listened to this one so often and every time it stays special. It gives me a sunny morning time vibe and it's like I'm actually heading to the heart of the sun. Motion Drive keeps things interesting from the beginning, slowly building it up giving me a warm melting feeling. Then just as you think things couldn't get better, after about 4 minutes he brings things down a little and continues to go all the way after that. Words can't describe the beauty of this track. Couldn't think of a better way to end this compilation. My advice? If you are in to progressive and you enjoy the more modern Iono sounds, I would get this VA. Just for the best tracks I described it's worth buying in my opinion, let alone some of the other ones. I experienced a lot of variation between lighter, heavier and darker progressive, so there's always something for everyone! Iono Shop: http://www.ionomusic...&shop=343&D=409
  13. Title: Progressive Love Label: Synergetic Records Date: 11-05-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 01. Earsugar & Double Click - Beat It 02. Behind Blue Eyes - Rumble In The Jungle (Zen mechanics Remix) 03. Protonica - Floating Point (Morning Mix) 04. Zyce - Strange Fragments 05. Midimal - Ages Of History (Human Element Remix) 06. Aquafeel - Unity Consciousness 07. Earsugar - Bonfire 08. Human Element - Being In 09. Ma'Co - Phantasy 10. Midimal - Fast & Delicious To start of, I don't think there is a single thing wrong with the title of this VA. There seems to be a lot of promising names listed on the tracklist as well, with a few tracks that I heard of already. I recognized some of them from one of the Extrasensory Perception series actually. But that's ok, I don't mind listening to them again. Beat It is not a bad track but I was hoping for something a little more special. It's not something I would remember afterwards or would like to play another 3 times. The Zen Mechanics remix for Rumble In The Jungle is one that I enjoyed. Not your typical stuff and I'm glad this turned out a little different than most tracks. I would like to say this is a bit more on the psychedelic side of things. Definitely a nice one, but I know there are a lot of better Zen Mechanics tracks/remixes out there. Protonica's Floating Point is one of my favorites tracks ever, I mean what more do you want. I have a lot of favorites actually, but this is one to close your eyes with and slowly reach a floating point. It's just perfect, almost like it gives you wings. And when you get the feeling that there isn't a thing you would change, you know it's good stuff. Protonica shows us once again that they are the masters of progressive trance. Speaking of masters, Zyce is in this VA as well. Strange Fragments is a great track, another melodic floater. I listened to this guys music so much that I probably could recognize most of it blindfolded, no joke. I would like to say all but he has that many tracks, nobody could keep up with that. Don't get me started about the other projects he is doing, this review would take hours. Ages Of History is a bit more on the minimal side, slick and steady would be the best way to describe it. Human Element did a good job on this remix, still keeping the melodic vibes from Midimal alive. Unity Consciousness is heavier but still super melodic from time to time. Very nice! Next is Earsugar with Bonfire. I like this one a lot more than there Beat It track. This one reminds me of some Human Element tracks, although they are usually a lot lighter than this but just as slick and tight. Being In is another nice one, but I have to say it took a while for me before this track fully came alive. It's just a little more empty than most of his songs but I will forgive him for that. Ma'co's Phantasy is nice and bouncy but somehow it lacked of groove and a good drive for me. I enjoyed his Intergalactic Paradise track a lot more to be honest. This one is ok, nothing special. Now they saved the best for last, Fast & Delicious is one of my favorite tracks of Midimal. Probobly my favorite actually now that I think of it. It has like a 2 min intro, but that's with all of his tracks. I don't find it annoying at all as u can clearly see he slowly grows in to the song, theres a story behind it. Midimal's name says it all (intentionally or not). It's kind of minimal progressive trance, but yet still somewhere in the middle. Such a unique style, if you take the time to listen to it I know you will love it. I remember the first time I heard this track I got goosebumps. Anyway 10 tracks later, I can't say my love for progressive has gotten any less after this release. Solid stuff, with just a few outstanding tracks. But sometimes that's all it takes. 14. Artist: E-Clip Title: Troublemaker EP Label: Iono Music Date: 01-10-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Troublemaker (11:06) 2. Overload (07:10) I don't think E-Clip needs an introduction. If you are not familiar with his work, I suggest listening to his Shuma album which contains some great tracks. A review of this can also be found here at Psynews. Not long after this album he released some amazing work and in my opinion this EP is a perfect example. He stayed loyal to the E-Clip style, while introducing some refreshing sounds. Both of these tracks are killers. Great listening to at home but I'm positive this could really rock a dance floor. There's a lot of energy in this EP and it's fair to say that he went all the way. Powerful baselines and great build-ups are just some of the elements we are used to from this Serbian producer. Everything we know him for is put in to this EP and it seems like there isn't a thing missing. Overload has to be my favorite, it's energetic but constant at the same time. You can really notice the track getting heavier and heavier as it goes a long. It's being built up nicely, better than spilling everything in one go. This really makes you appreciate the progressive trance format. It gives you so much room to go further and further, while being able to make a playful progressing story of the song. Terrific job on this one! 15. Artist: Unseen Dimensions Title: Real High EP Label: Spin Twist Records Date: 29-06-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Beautiful Day 2. Gold Star (Natural Vibes Remix) 3. Real High Unseen Dimensions is all about the groove, he made this very clear with his Airglow EP, released in 2011. In my opinion this was one of the best progressive EP's I heard in my life and it takes a lot to over class it. This style is truly original and I can't remember hearing anything similar to it. I like it when someone goes out of there way to create something new, it really makes it worth listening to. So far Airglow, now it's time to get Real High. I mean this in in every sense of the word. Beautiful Day is a great track, going a bit more towards the Spin Twist offbeat style but staying loyal to the original twisted funky sounds that I'm used to hearing. It's filled with all kinds of layers making it a very clever track. There's so much going on, that I wasn't bored once. Enjoyed it a lot! Now I think Gold Star is a hard one to remix. One again the original track was filled with all kinds of effects, making it very atmospheric and complicated in a good way. Actually I just played it before the Natural Vibe remix and it always stays a real journey. The remix is much more powerful and aggressive if you will. The bass line is heavy and you can still sense the original track in it. I can imagine a dance floor will go crazy over this one. Near the end I was thinking about how much I enjoyed it so far. Then it surprised me with some dubstep like ending, this disappointed me. Things would of been so much cooler if that was left out. Luckily it was near the end and not right in the middle. But still.. The last track was not my favorite, I can say it was a fun little floater. Real High just had a little less to offer than all the other tracks I know from Unseen Dimensions. I don't know, other tracks were filled all the way so this gives me a slightly empty feeling. Never the less, I get the impression this guy knows what he's doing. This release is a good piece of work, but I think it will be hard for anyone to create something as good as his first EP. Good job! 16. Artist: Kopel Title: Flavor EP Label: Blue Tunes Records Date: 19-09-2011 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Amaretto (08:32) 2. Coconut (07:29) Here's a short 2 track EP from Kopel, a great producer from Israel. Some of his work worth mentioning are the remixes for Ritmo's 'Music From Heaven' and 'Unannounced Portal' from Liquid Soul. Not to forget, the Unreal EP that contains some good tracks as well. Now it's time for the Flavor EP, which I enjoyed a lot. When listening to these tracks you could say this fits right in with the Blue Tunes style. It could be described as something in between the Iono and the Spin Twist style. It's very bouncy with a nice groove to it. Seems like everything is just right, not to light and not to heavy either. Also it has this nice offbeat vibe to it, but he didn't go overboard with this either. My favorite track from this EP is Coconut. It's just a little more bouncy and playful. I truly enjoyed this one and to be honest I can't stop moving to this track. What can I say, there's a great drive in this song and I expect a lot of listening before this could bore me. Great work! 17. Artist: Human Element Title: Subsequent Connection EP Label: Plusquam Records Date: June, 2012 1. Subsequent Connection 2. Subsequent Connection (Atmos Remix) This is Martin Knecht (half of Earsugar) with a short 2 track EP. Actually it's one track and then the same track remixed by the Sultan of Sweden, The Prince of Progressive, the...it, it's Atmos. Awww Yeah! That soft pillowy kick is so f*cking inviting as incidentals bounce around the tympanic membrane. Smooth, gliding action and subtle chopped synths bathe the listener in the warm glow of a party getting started. Did a bunch a drag queens escape from prison? So then the Atmos remix comes and hey I got nothing against his music, but the purpose of a remix is to make the track sound...I dunno, different? I liked the track, but I just f*cking heard it! It's like Groundhog Day and I just wanted to punch your software. So it doesn't matter which track you choose to download, but if you choose both, then you must have some extra green lying around. Can you get me a happy meal? Beatport Mdk
  18. Artist: Odiseo Title: Fenix EP Label: Spin Twist Records Date: 25-10-2011 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Api (06:16) 2. Fenix (06:52) It didn't take me long to find out that I absolutely love this EP! It's one on the lighter side of progressive and It has this offbeat touch to it, typical Spin Twist Records. If you can dig this style, you will probably enjoy this release a lot. Another thing I love is the perfectly matching voice sample in the 'Api' track: 'There is something you need to know about progressive music. It makes your life much better!' I'm not making this up, I can proudly say I have noticed it throughout my life and this song proves it once again. If you don't believe me just go listen to this EP and you will notice it soon enough. 'Fenix' is the same story as 'Api', both tracks have such a slick and crispy feeling to it, that while I'm listening I just don't want it to end. What more can I say, Odiseo did a great job if you ask me. Really living up to the other stuff he produced. 19. Artist: Ecliptic Title: On A Ledge EP Label: Undergroove Music Date: 19-03-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Ecliptic & Odiseo - On A Ledge (06:43) 2. Ecliptic & Tron - Even More Power (07:48) I have been listening to Ecliptic for a while and there style of music is extremely addicting! The reason I say music, is because this duo has mastered progressive trance, progressive house and tech-house. The last 2 with the project names 'Ruls' and 'Navarro'. It doesn't happen to often that I come across an artist where I like all there different kind of music projects and most of there albums. This is one of them cases and I can proudly say that I love this On A Ledge album as well. Both tracks are a bit on the lighter side and have a great flow going on. On A Ledge is a collaboration between Ecliptic and Odiseo, another great Mexican artist. I pretty much like all there collaborations so far and there's not a single thing wrong with this one either. It has a nice smooth vibe to it. Even More Power also has this amazing groove, making it very entertaining to listen to. Ecliptic most of the time has these slight twisting turns in there tracks that go on during the whole song. Kind of hard to explain but it's definitely an original approach. It's one of the reasons that I like there other projects, because somehow it has that same fresh twisted touch to it. So to make things short, this EP is definitely worth buying if you can dig this style. 2 tracks, but that's ok. I much rather hear 2 really good ones, then a bunch of average sounding tracks that don't hold my attention all the way. 20. Artist: Various Title: Eternal Symphony (Compiled by Djane Betty) Label: TesseracTstudio Records Date: 06-03-2012 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Vertex - Second Element 2. Djane Betty & Funky Dragon - Behind You 3. Orison - Mutation 4. Nerso & Zyce - Force Of Existence 5. Lyctum - Consciousness 6. Funky Dragon - Dreamer 7. Relativ - Universal 8. Zyce & Funky Dragon - Peacemaker 9. E-Clip - Capital Distress 10. Zyce & Flegma - Shades Of Gray Judging from the names on this tracklist alone, this has to be a damn good release. I am always used to high quality progressive when it comes to the guys from the Serbian label TesseracTstudio. So I was very curious to see if they could live up to my expectations. I started of with Vertex (also known as Zyce). It's an easy going track and perfect to start of this compilation. Enjoyed it! Next is Djane Betty & Funky Dragon. After some spiritual-like voices in the beginning, the track gets very energetic with a powerful baseline to got with it. It's ok, but not my favorite track of all. Then after hearing Orison's Mutation, things get extremely interesting. I never heard of this project before and I believe Zyce & Flegma are behind it. Very powerful again and I know this would work just fine on the dance floor. Still these guys didn't get rid of the warm melodic sounds they represent on there other projects and I'm very happy about this. Great stuff! I think most of us know the great hypnotic power of Nerso & Zyce. Well this track is no different and it's time to get back in to the floating trance mode. Halfway you just want to close your eyes and drift of, perfect stuff! They have released a number of amazing tracks together and I think they can be very proud of this one. Consciousness by Lyctum is probably one of my favorite songs of all time when it comes to psychedelic progressive trance. It's almost like it's existing out of heavy pads instead of your regular baseline. Seriously, what a great bouncer this is. Everyone should keep his eyes out for Lyctum, another fantastic act from Belgrade. Just 5 tracks done so far and I'm already very happy with what I've been hearing. Funky Dragon's Dreamer is a nice one as well. Much different compared to the last track but Funky Dragon keeps things interesting enough for me to like it. Universal from Relativ is my favorite track from this release, without any doubt. I don't think I ever heard a track this powerful and it just takes you higher and higher. During the second half of the song it explodes. When I hear this I just feel like stomping the ground at a well filled dance floor. This is truly amazing! Next is Zyce & Funky Dragon, who take over with Peacemaker. These guys already released a remix album of there Serpent track and it was a great success. They did a brilliant job then and they did a brilliant job now. A little lighter than the tracks of Lyctum and Relativ for example, but this one is telling a small story once again. Funky Dragon took care of the groove and Zyce made sure of a very hypnotic vibe. Very nice and at the end of the song they take it even further. When seeing E-Clip's name of the list, you expect high energy immediately and he definitely doesn't let you down. He couldn't be missing in this release and he really takes care of this track in a powerful way. To finally end this compilation in style and bring things down a little, Zyce & Flegma's Shades Of Gray works just fine. Another floater with deep bass lines and matching background effects. These guys really know what trance is all about. If your searching for the psychedelic aspect in progressive trance, this release is what your looking for. TesseracTstudio did a terrific job, taking it to the next level for sure. It's a perfect balance between the relaxing melodic side and the stronger aggressive side of this type of trance. Probobly one of the best compilations I came across in 2012. Links: http://www.beatport....symphony/873886 http://www.psyshop.c.../tes1cd012.html http://www.tesseractstudio.org
  21. Artist: Flexus Title: The Beginning EP Label: Iono Music Date: July, 2012 1. Sunset 2. The Beginning 3. Magnetic Field Technically this isn't the beginning for Flexus aka Stefan Goransson as he collaborated with Time In Motion on last years Smooth Vibrations EP from Iono. That aside what did I learn from this release? Not everything needs to be a massive storytelling adventure. Sometimes it is great to just be spirited away. And that is just what this 3 track EP does. I would describe it as light and airy progressive trance that follows the Iono mold of gentle melodies, soft breaks, and a sh*tload of delay. Imagine taking flight on the gossamer wings of a butterfly or plucking the strings of a spiders web to get an idea of how delicate this is. Soft and sensual, never intrusive, this floats like bubbles in the wind against the warm rays of the sun. Stefan shows that you don't have to be overly complex to craft a beautiful track. Well done sir. Beatport Audiojelly Psyshop Mdk
  22. Artist: NOK & Ritmo Title: Multistop Remixes Label: Blue Tunes Records Date: 10-11-2009 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (Original Mix) 2. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (E-Clip Remix) 3. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (Ectima Remix) 4. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (Flegma & Nerso Remix) 5. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (Zyce Remix) 6. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (Sven Snug Remix) 7. NOK & Ritmo – Multistop (Aerospace & Emotive Remix) So in case you don't know the original, it's absolutely amazing! The first time i heard the Multistop track, I fell in love with it. It sounds smooth and fresh. If you were to show someone an example of progressive trance, that would be it. Very suitable for in the morning time. Not much later I discovered an entire remix album, remixed by the leading artist of the progressive scene. Just imagine how excited I was for this one. When you think things can't get much better, E-Clip comes in. He applied his powerful sound to this song, making the baseline heavy while having echoing melodic background effects. It's the typical E-Clip stuff, he always knows how to make things just a little more interesting. One of my favorite remixes. Next is Ectima, that represents a sort of tech progressive sound. This duo exist out of Zyce and Flegma, pioneers in the progressive scene. They did it once again, making the track much different formed in to the Ectima style. It can be described as much darker with a different approach on handling the bas. It works just fine and it's nice to see what kind of things you can do with one track. Flegma & Nerso's turn! I would have to say that together with E-Clip's remix this has to be my favorite. The track is way more melodic and they have created a perfect balance between the smooth feeling of the original track and the hypnotic and atmospheric sounds they are bringing in. If theres a song that can bring me in to a trance state so to say, it's this one for sure. Just perfect! Well if someone knows how to create melodic sounds, it should be Zyce. This guy made me float away and drift of that many times, it should be illegal. I must say though, I have listened to better tracks of him then this one. Still there's not much wrong with it. Not so heavy as the last tracks, but a lighter take on things can't hurt either. Sven Snug's version is much different than the original. A bit more of a playful approach I would say, but it works and I'm drifted away just as easily. Nothing wrong with this remix. Last is Aerospace & Emotive and it's surprising that again the song takes a total different turn. Almost like the original track was meant to be remixed after hearing all of this. This version is not my favorite but it works fine. Serbia has a fair share in this release and those guys almost never let me down. Highly recommended! 23. Artist: Synesthetic Title: Into The Vibe EP Label: Spintwist Records Date: December, 2011 1. Klitsch n Chic 2. Into The Vibe 3. Twisker I got a ticket a few days ago for rolling through a stop sign. I'm pretty sure I stopped, but you know we're in a recession so cops gotta write tickets right? Thought for sure he was gonna let me go when he asked about my flawless driving record, but no. Ticket was only 30 bucks, but the court costs and ahem..."processing fee" make it almost $100. Don't you have real crimes to stop? I was less than 2 miles from my house so I was doubly sour. Needless to say I needed some good time music to cheer me up. Synesthetic are Alessandro Pintus and Paulo Lopes and this is their sixth EP. They make the groovy progressive stuff that stirs involuntary dancing. Just what I needed. The first track is rather long at 9 and a half minutes and I just couldn't get into it. But the last two are big beats that are super dance friendly with melody changes that bring some wide smiles. Fun in the sun which conjure up memories of good times past. 6 bucks for 3 tracks is a bit steep so give it a listen to see what you prefer. Beatport Mdk
  24. Artist: Optiloop Title: Destination Unknown EP Label: Iono Music Date: 05-04-2011 Style: Progressive Trance Tracklist: 1. Destination Unknown (09:06) 2. Prime Level (08:34) If you don't know Optiloop, perhaps there other project 'Loopstep' rings a bell. So far they released some great tracks with both projects and judging from just about all there releases, this is truly a very original style of progressive trance. An amazing track worth mentioning by Optiloop is 'Gang N Stan', released on Carrots & Stick. With there Loopstep project they have made some awesome remixes, The Journey (Motion Drive) and Circles (Progenitor) are some perfect examples of what these guys are capable of. It's definitely not the basic stuff, they went out of there way to create something new and it evolved in to something sounding very slick and crispy. There's always a lot of speed in there work and both of these tracks are no different. The first track Destination Unknown starts of with energetic rolling baselines, supported by fantastic atmospheric effects. It only gets better and more intense during the song. This Greek duo truly knows how to keep the best for last and I can proudly say that this track really carried me away. Next is Prime Level and after hearing the first track, one would strongly doubt if it could get any better then that. It starts of very slick and tight once again, the Optiloop and Loopstep signature so to say. All effects are timed just right with simple yet effective touches during the whole song, while the beat remains constant. There cannot be anything found wrong with this track in my opinion. Everything is thought about and the hypnotic vibe I'm getting from this one is priceless. 2 tracks that really impressed me. I can recommend this to anyone who thinks all progressive sounds the same. Check this EP out, get in to full relaxation mode, give it a good listen and I would say your opinion is changed quickly. 25. Artist: Timeless Title: Night Drive EP Label: Iono Music Date: June, 2012 1. Night Drive 2. Traffic the Light feat. Upsoull If you've read any of my reviews (you can't escape me) regarding Iono Music and their artists you'll know that my admiration approaches cult status. This is due to their consistent track record when it comes to releasing descriptive and atmospheric progressive trance. I can count on one hand the number of releases that didn't thrill me and that's pretty good for a label that has had over 80 releases. That said, a reviewer has to be able to take the fan helmet off and rely on his objectivity if his opinion is to be taken seriously. Which is why I'm about to respectfully sh*t all over this EP. Yep John, I'm afraid there is nothing here that would make me recommend it to you as it is a departure from all that you have come to expect from this label. I know I couldn't believe it either. Excessively boring and repetitive it fits into the niche of background noise, a perfect soundtrack for folding laundry. The bass sounds were almost if not identical and when you only have two tracks it's really easy to see. Where are the grand soundscapes and the effects coming from all sides? An argument could be made that this is good for a night time vibe like a predator lurking in the dark. For me however is comes off as been there done that, unimaginative and too many periods of just a bass line and a kick. *Yawn* Night Drive? Maybe. If your intent was to hit every animal trying to cross the road culminating in a broken telephone pole and a totalled vehicle. Sorry Iono, this was weak. Beatport Mdk
