Software is something that 'happens' as a result of a certain input into a compiler.... Sound is something that 'happens' as a result of a certain input into a synth...

No, the point of creative sound is making sounds that people have not heard. Technically, having a kick is the most cliche and uncreative and unoriginal aspect of any electronic song....you name the song, it has a kick.

4123 or 1324-ish arp, with a gate alternateing from half to 4th...with a delay, and some reverb....bam! Add a chorus and cuttoff/reso/PWM automation..and you got something that causes women to get wet inside!

i like this track alot actually it has a dark overtone to it too....to be honest this is very good for a second track, but i think more chordal progression wouldn't hurt it at around 2:40 where it progresses upwards, if you stay in scale it would make imho, it way more enjoyable, but it sounds like your just moveing up key instead of up scale....

i don't make music for people to dance to, i make it for people to sit in thier rooms and listen to so i doubt a dj will want to play it anyways, reguardless of how mastered it is

synths aren't meant to emulate real sounds, thats my point....trying to make a real sound with a synth is pointless. but a kick is a kick electronic music does not = dance or club music btw....electronic music is music that is made on a synth, thats the only thing that sets it apart, electronic music is not 'club music', it most certainly is not only danceable music...and goa defianitly isn't only danceable music....if they wanted to make it danceable, they would go to europe and make some tiesto... i don't want to play in a band..and..............goa head?

Exept that not everyone actually has quality speakers. Sure, you can tell people to get good stuff, doesn't change the fact that most people don't have good speakers, and most likely, that will not change, ever. The point is, anyone who is smart will try to make thier track sound as good as possiable on as many speaker setups as possiable..those who don't, are lazy. And don't care about the quality of thier track. A track is best known to people when they hear it in their headphones or thier Cd player, or, which is no surpise, on a computer with thier PC speakers....unless someone is an artist, they probably won't dish out 1000$ for some good monitors.

So your saying Gataka and Astral Projection and Cybernaut are shit then...thats nice. Because all of them have songs that sound crappy on earbuds...and also on regular PC speakers....and on car speakers.....just because you master something on the highest quality speakers only..does not automaticly mean it sounds good on anything less quality.... And you master to fit your target, everyone knows that.

Well, i don't make dance music...which probably would explaine alot. And most of the time, i pruposely make my kick sound undancy, i don't really like those 'phat black bassy' thumps people use in thier tracks.. :/ Alot of my tracks are supposed to [many probably don't ] entrance a person, not get them dancing, i usually make a track with the intention of the melody or what not getting stuck on them, in thier head. Sometimes, i don't even add percussion, because the sound alone does it....but most people probably wouldn't dig that as much...i have like 70 tracks that i haven't shown anyone, some are done, some arn't, some are expriements...

Who is talking about crappy speakers reaching high quality sound? I said you need to master on crap speakers aswell as high quality ones so that you get a balence. Because what sounds good on high quality speakers, doesn't sound good on low quality speakers, duh. And you need to matser them on ear buds, and you need to master them on headphones, and if you can, you need to use standard car stereo speakers aswell....the point was, to use many qualities and kinds fo speakers when you master, and not one brand/model..because it won't be the same on all speakers. God damn, i had to actually expline that, lol.

What is that about? Well, unless you don't give a shit about the listener, sure go ahead and use only the highest of high quality monitors...it will most likely sound shitty on your car stero though.

I doubt it...and if it did, again i ask, why? If it sounds real, why not just skip that whole waste of time, and use..a REAL kick? This is something i don't get about trance music sometimes, tries so hard to not sound organic, yet when it comes to percussion, they try to sound as organic as possiable, using a synth or what have you....stop wasteing time, thats probably why most electronic songs are mearly catchy dance tracks "because we gotta make sure that kick sounds real mate!!! don't forget to master it.....what? melody and harmony? GTFO i like my kick bass kick bass kick bass kick bass line..that shit is tizight!!!!" I'm just saying, a synth isn't going to make a kick drum sound more realerer [sp??] than an actual kick, so why not just use a recorded kick drum and modify that? Thats useualy what i do. i don't waste time trying to turn my 404 into a real authentic kickdrum...besides, people will think its a sample anyways if it sounds too good. Its amazing how much of a waste of time people spend on stuff... Why the hell would you use a synth to emulate something real like a kickdrum? It sounds like a waste of time to me, when you can simply get a real kick drum and modify it... And making hats and snares from a synth, well, those people can GTFO, why make somethign when it is unnanimously known to not sound authentic and real? Lol, i didn't think people actually tried to make percussion with a synth..thats funny.

90% of the people who listen to music, don't have monitors, and msot of them, probably don't even know what monitors are, if someone uses high quality speakrs to master a track, it can, and most likely will..sound like pure shit on shit speakers, and that is a problem, because most people use shit speakers, like earbud headphones for instance... i have heard wav format songs taken from astral projection and the like, and some of them, sounded like crap, probably because they took the time to make thier track sound good only on high quality monitors.... if your going to master, you need to master on the type of speakers that most people will be useing, mostg people..use headphones, and i have yet to hear a track that sounds really good on earbuds....

This is probably the wierdest psy i have ever heard but imho, this is mearly a point of taste, id add more chordal progression and a harmonized bass...it sorta sounds like a collection of strange sounds, not much 'song' if you know what i mean. And it does sound rather empty, i agree with pretty much what the guy two posts above said, but i also think more melody and harmony would be awesome.... get a better kick, and like the other guy said, add more percussion, snares and stuff, imho, i think this would be better as a dark jungle or dnb track id say heck!, expriement and add a DnB perc line in there [keeping the 4/4 kick]...but really i'm only saying that because i would love to hear what it sounds like, do what YOU want though

when you make a kick and a hihat from a synth, call me....if you don't use samples, you don't have percussion.

i simplify my main lead melody, thats how i get my bassline...

just an idea, have two sections of tracks? oen section, which will probably be the majority, and one section will be the really good stuff, the purpose will be to help people find the 'good' stuff... imho, the best option is to not worry about how mastering is going to get done, and to find out a way to form this issue into your system..its not somethign thats going to get fixed instantly, and you also have to know that making music is a fun activity, mastering is never fun, and relize that people who are doing music for free, probably arn't to worried about the mastering, considering that IS a comercial standard, in the free world, its a perk... the best thing would be to say hey, some tracks are mastered good and some arn't, i need to find a way to catagorize these two groups...

I suck at making kicks, thats my excuse, besides though, i have gigs and gigs of deepest india percussion samples, i can just use a real kick if i want.

Hell, i have a track on myspace with startrek/5th elemnt/ bevis and butthead samples loaded all over the place....and you know what, no one has said a damn thing, and you know why?..the world isn't looking.... to be honest, most people, esp psy/goa artists, are not that far into the 'global spotlight'...not popular nor famous enough for anyone to actually give a shit if someone stole a sample....
