Mike A, I would also check the electrical circuits leading up to the key. If you notice a brownish color where the copper is, or a "break" between the copper too, it may not function due to this. You can simply use a number 2 pencil "cheap method" to trace the circuit back on, but press really hard, and make sure not to overlap any other circuits, or you can buy a silver circuit marker that is liquid, has silver in it, and conducts better than copper and works way better than the number 2 pencil method. Otherwise, a good cleaning is in play. And by cleaning, not compressed air. Despite popular belief, it isn't the best way to clean an electronic part. Specifically, the PCB circuit board with everything on it no doubt; do not desolder anything. it will be o.k.: - Full immersion in a saponifier bath (Alconox Detergent 8) @ 50°C for 10 minutes. - Full immersion in a water bath at room temperature for 1 minute. - Full immersion in denatured alcohol bath @ 50°C for 3 minute. - Dry component at an elevated temperature. That's the master's way of cleaning a synth. The boards will no doubt be good as new, and I would allow drying time to 48 hours just to make sure you don't turn it on when it looks dry and bam, it zzzzaps out. I get along fine with denatured alcohol and a rag as well as a vacuum -d

You know, for somebody like you antic, they invented Microsoft Word and cut and paste. Simply cut the list, paste it to microsoft word, and press shift+f3 and your list will be converted to all lowercase and you can stop being mean. you hater! -d

The A-80 has poly-at. It is solid hardware based as well. It does have weighted keys as well. The A-90 is somewhat identical to the A-80, but the poly-at has software emulation, so I guess it's described as having untrue poly-at, if that makes sense. I had no idea the ASR-10 had poly-at, crazy! I was going to go a rack mount sampler, the asr-10r, but decided a sampler keyboard would be even better. Edit: I meant earlier the Kurzweil Midiboard - not Kawai. I don't know if anybody else is into Poly-At, but here's an interesting site I just found talking about it a little bit: http://personal.inet.fi/private/matador/cs-80_tips.html

I am not a Roland freak so much, but I buy things that are *deals*. The MKS-50 and programmer were basically free, the D-550 came as a set with the programmer and a bunch of crap at a price I could not deny, and well, yeah, you get the picture. It's just kind of turned out that way. I *wanted* the super jupiter, the other stuff just kind of happened at bargains. OKAY I ADMIT, I love the roland sound =] nonetheless. I haven't had much else to play with. Nobody locally is ever selling something not roland for a super bargain. And regarding the Mackies, yeah, they'd be in working order. Lots of people in the music scene here use the mackies and they come available often at what I'd think to be a good price. I would like to say that putting Roland aside, I would like to acquire an Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler keyboard and would prefer a kawai midiboard, but it's either the midiboard or roland a-80 and midiboards are hard to find...as my midi controller. I require one of those cause I would be using it to play live as well and the polyphonic aftertouch is schweeet for live apps. Not many midi controllers have this feature, at least ones that are weighted. I don't know anything about synth-action controllers...but! Anyways, weeeeeeee. -d

Haha, I think it's a great start. I would definitely keep this in the "when I was a beginner" folder. You are definitely finding your way. Aaron

Okay, so here's the deal, I have headphones coming, and despite what I think they may hold up to, I may be completely and utterly wrong, or maybe right now while I am learning and such, they'll work. I am hopeful the latter. However, I am working on pushing a piece of gear out the door and expect around 600 dollars for the stuff. I figured my stuff is analog and I suppose I could have room for a digital synth, but if I really need it, I would really just want to incorporate a computer. I mean putting that aside, I've begun work on a custom SID chip synth and will be incorporating an Atari ST with Cubase 3.0 in as a sequencer where the LinnSequencer I have may fail, although unlikely, I love that thing. So straight to the point, give me recommendations of monitors that are good. I can score a used set in excellent all-round condition pair of Mackies on a regular basis here in Minneapolis for about 600-650. Would these be the best bet at this range? I don't know new speakers. I know vintage JBLs and I just said somewhere else that I have owned SRM450's which made me a Mackie nut, just cause they rocked and were loud and were in a tiny little cabinet, heehee. Monitors are different, no doubt, but....your input is most definitely appreciated and will probably fall into which route I go. Does everyone agree, 824s? =] Also, somebody asked me for pictures of my gear. Here's some shots in my not-setup environment. This stuff has since been moved 150+ miles away from where I am staying right now. I was supposed to move tomorrow, but I got rejected. So my stuff is in a basement studio in the city where I'm supposed to live, heehee. The Juno is still here though for me to play with and my parts will be arriving to solder back in the Envelope slider. I have more gear, just no pictures of it to share. Thanks in advance, Aaron The mighty 106. This mixer is weird, it's old, from 85, it's an Akai, it works great, analogue, and just a temporary mixing solution right now. I don't know when I took this, but it was probably erm, 3 weeks ago, before moving it far away from me. I keep everything in a lockup case since my son is almost 3, but he likes to touch and play with everything mine. Hell, I even have a 7 ft tall bookshelf made of plastic with doors on it to keep things locked up [it has a key too] from him. As well as 100% plastic computer desk so he could beat the crap out of it as much as he wanted and it'd still be standing. hehe. K BYE! i talk too much.

Headphones: Ultrasone PROLine 750's

I suppose, but financially, I don't want to go out and buy a 200 dollar pair of monitors that won't do the job for me. It may just be me, but I feel like doing so would subtract me 200 dollars from having a good set of monitors down the line. It won't take that long to get the money for a set of used monitors that I know I'll be happy with. I also don't think using headphones in a limited sense is going to be too bogus. The nice thing about these is due to their high recommendations, I'll be able to use them elsewhere in different applications whereas monitors, when I do buy them, would stay in one spot, on top of the desk. I do get the picture though! If my D-550 sells for what I'm looking to get out of it, I will have acquired enough to buy a used set of some mackie hr824. When I had a mixing studio [i rented a real studio space, yeah. it was the best thing during those years going on in my life ], I owned a pair of SRM450's sitting up on stands and it kind of gave me a Mackie bug. I don't know about other monitors and if anybody has some suggestions...well, check the new thread started! -d -

I took your folks' advice like usual on things and did go for the 701's. They're on there way. I can't afford the other kind of monitors right now sooo the cans will have to do for awhile. Excited to receive and use them. When I pretend-spun vinyl, I used Pioneer HDJ-1000's. They were great for mixing, but they kind of muttered the mid-range frequencies and the ultra-low frequencies weren't well, heard very well. -
What new gear [equipment] did you get today?
devious replied to devious's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
It wasn't ebay, it was actually craigslist. I found a secret, googling for $item + craigslist and you could find some crazy mad deals that are far beyond real. The SH-101 the police said he did have but he had a life excuse as to why he did not ship it. I felt that he was legitimately selling the 101, but took advantage of the situation, got my funds by paypal, and decided to say fuck it and never ship it thinking he'd never have to answer to it. Well, the Tallahassee Florida Police had a warrant for his arrest already in the system, it was a bench warrant. So they went ahead and answered their warrant because of me calling them. So it was cool. I haven't got my money back yet, he took a screenshot of his monitor showing that he initiated a withdrawl of 375 from his bank account to paypal and its supposed to clear today or tonight and I will probably be a nice guy and drop charges because I'm not really that mean. I just want my money back. He said he'd ship me the 101 after all this shit and I was like fuck it, forget the price, forget the deal, I just want my money back. Ya know? It hasn't detered me from dealing with out of state craigslist postings though. I've had about 5 deals where I've turned 30 dollars into 200, 300, even 400 dollars. One's man trash is another man's treasure chest. Aaron -
What new gear [equipment] did you get today?

Yo Bro! I'm not sure. I'm still working the kinks out on being able to even use my gear. I am actually 200 miles away from my gear right now, well, roughly. I am supposed to be moving down to that location so when I take trips down to Winona, MN, I drop my shit off at my friend's [he has a basement studio at his house]. I haven't had a whole lot of time to compose. Taking care of everything else first, buying gear, storing it away for more trips down there to drop off, to hook up, to play with, come back to minneapolis, blah blah. It sucks. Business first right now. On any note, I would like to say that the Linn Sequencer is awesome. Love it to death. Very simple to use. Go read about it at www.forat.com/sequencer/ - Look forward to getting into my place soon and hooking everything up in a more "organized" manner and putting the Atari ST to work as well. That'll be interesting. Promise though, as soon as I finish a quarter of a track Otto, I'll send it your way. =] But don't share it with anyone. I would say expect something by January of next year. Yeah, that long. I have a lot of stuff to work around these next few months, but next year, I'll be ready to pump some shit out, or maybe not. Maybe I should stick to playing live keyboard. Heh. NO! But improv is fun. Really, this is my gear list, it's not much, but I think it's a good start and has only cost me out of pocket 1200 dollars: MKS-80+MPG-80 MKS-50+PG-300 D-550 w/ MEX Upgrade+PG-1000 Ensoniq SQ1 DW-6000 [still want to get rid of it] Added today: Juno 106 but not down in winona in my possession still Akai MPX820 8 channel mixer [have to start somewhere, yeah? somebody got to the tascam 3500 32ch8bus mixer for 150 bucks before me :-/] LinnSequencer Atari 520ST w/ Steinberg Cubase and C-Lab Notator and...a bunch of C-Lab accessories and other peoples accessories and software JBL L36 speakers used for monitors. They sound good enough for now. And hopefully I will find the time somewhere to build a quad SID chip MIDIBox. Really I don't have a lot of gear, I don't think? I really still want to add a better mixer and some good non-JBL monitors and possibly reacquire a dp/4 - sold mine to pay for a sh-101 that was NEVER SHIPPED but the tallahassee police nabbed the sucker on an outstanding warrant for something else. Then he made a "sorry life" excuse as to why the 101 had never been shipped. I should have my money back tomorrow [375], but I did get asked if I wanted to press charges. I said yeah since it's allegedly taking so long for him to get my monies back to me. =/ I talk/type too much. I quit. Aaron -

I too, lumpi, am curious about that d-machine and how it sounds. My gear humping quest is coming to a halt. All of my stuff is not near me anymore, except tonight and Monday I'm picking up: Atari 520 ST [i like oldskool, k? k!] with many midi tools. It comes with a ton of shtuff, ex-studio gear with both a monochrome and color monitor. 40 dollars well spent in my opinion :clapping: Immaculate Juno 106 - I don't know if I will really use this, but it's mint, used a few times in church, nothing else. Guy wanted 50 bucks for it, but he's getting more, 250. I had a lot of time playing with the LinnSequencer Friday. I moved it down to my friend's studio and hooked it up. By far, I love it. I have yet to understand anything software related besides playing with Reason. I think the music software of today is just too complicated and thus why you'll always read me buying old stuff; simpler is better. If I can open a box and use it right away without studying a 300pg manual, I'm good to go. hEEhEE. Anyways, for the hardware whores out there, the LinnSequencer is highly recommended. With buttons like rewind, fastforward, stop, record, play....it doesn't get any easier than that. The settings from within the menus on the LCD are simple to understand without reading a manual and it has an onboard memory tester which for what it's worth, the memory stinks, 10600 note capacity, but on a disk, 106k. Has a scsi hookup and am in the process of picking up a zip drive and 21 zip disks for free come monday too. Still need some good monitors though, the one thing I've neglected. Maybe come christmas I'll buy me a present. Anybody have a need for a Korg DW-6000? I'm finding I won't need it, 15 dollars plus shipping, but you have to put a new battery in it. -d -
so, why book transwave now when dimension 5 can be booked? and a far better fetch in my opinion. yeah! the oldskool and some newskool mixed. i'm unfamiliar with their new shit but man, definitely have d5! tell me when and where and i am there. =] -d
-
Haha, wouldn't doubt it. The mother of my son used to kick the shit out of me, I allowed it. Then she would call the police. Then eventually I ended up with custody when everything was done. She's now in Chicago stripping down there and beating up the next guy =] eventually. heh. Some chicks are just plain crazy, especially strippers and popstars. HEH! -d
-
Indeed. Transwave, despite still having a live act and all, just doesn't do it anymore, at least for psy nerds. It would be an absolute waste of time, while still having the name Transwave, the current Transwave music does not carry the psychedelic aspect of the old Transwave. In other news, Britney Spears continues to remain the same person she was 2, 3 even 4 years ago. Some people, as well as their music...never changes! -d

What new gear [equipment] did you get today?

... It is indeed interesting. My son enjoys synthesis; he dances more to striking a key of the most bizarre swirly sound, but never moved to any CD I put into the player. On any note, I *had* to. I've been wanting an ASQ-10 sequencer, but can't find one for less than 200 dollars, so I figured despite it not being as feature-riffic, I would go after this bad boy and got it. Hope it works when it arrives. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N:IT&ih=017 It's a Linn Sequencer, an oldschool, super outdated piece of crap which means I'll put it to a lot of good use. :posford: I needed a hardware sequencer. I can't stand using software, I'm already on the computer way- too much. -Aaron -
I think it's been a fun thread about what music did you get in the general thread. However, I can no longer partake in that thread because I've stopped buying music altogether and instead replaced music with my own musical creations. This thread, despite it not being posted in 100x a day, should garner some attention from the gear whores. I have admittedly become addicted to buying gear, but like the old goa, at great prices. Anyways, today I got a Tascam M3500 32x8x32 console with the full meter bridge, the complete shebang for a mere $150.00. It's fully functional, but I am going to have to spend a lot of time cleaning the boards. It's a project being the console is 4 feet x 5 feet and a 140 pounds or so. It was chosen because of price. I was eyeing some 16 channel mixers, but at double the cost and when I found this baby, she was mine. I also received my PG-300 for my MKS-50 I've been awaiting forever for. It was missing one slider cap but a visit to a wonderful restoration parts website scored me a new old stock piece plus a few IR3095 chips for my MKS80 as a precautionary measure. I have yet to hear of an issue of such to the MKS80 but better safe than sorry on these old pieces. I'm still undecided on where I'm going to live, but god damnit, it better be a place where me, my son, and all my gear can fit! So, what did you get? Aaron
-
do you ever shut up? i mean seriously, go to private message. stop instigating your shit in everybody's thread, 4 REEL SRSLY K?!?!K!!THX!!!! p.s. instead of questioning, maybe you should do some research on the oldskool not-labels, but distribution companies who not only fucked the labels but fucked the artists in the process of fucking the labels mr. always know it all artur. this was repeated behavior with psy labels [and many other non psy labels] and still carries the tradition onward even today.
-
All of it has been sold to good ol' damon. He met me in Minnesota today, on business. Hah! I was sad to hand over the vinyl, but also quite pleased since it went to Damon; I know it won't end up at a plastics recycling company, heehee. Thanks Damon. Sorry for not having the promo/white label shit. I boxed them up when I got home, they'll be out in the post tomorrow. =[[[[[[[[[[[[[ I felt stupidly retarded but I was in such a hurry, I did not realize I had the other shit in a separate stack at the time until on the way down I was like OH FUCK!@# Now I can retire from these forums and move on over to the ambient forums sooon enough. Aaron
-
Yeah, right. For every fifty pounds of records, it'll be about 180 bucks a package. Heh. Aaron
-
At one point I had about 35 LP promos from all the oldschool labels. I acquired them from somebody who was living in India along with a bunch of other stuff. I sold most of my other super rare shit awhile back when I really needed the money, then I tried collecting CDs, but alas, music ventures of my own are making me part ways with my collections and I am kind of moving onward and formulating my own stylee in musical terms. And no, I did not rip every single one of these to the computer before hand. I tried along time ago, but it was too time consuming. Same with CDs. But yeah, this is for whomever is interested. It'll be a bitch to ship overseas as a bulk lot, I mean financially for the winner, and I don't even know if it's worth it. I sold most of my TIP collection. I kept some for somebody else who needed some records to complete their collection. It was uhm, 105 dollars to ship 25lbs of record which this lot is far heavier soooooo... Anyways, weeeeeeeeeeee. Aaron
-
Okay I know one person who was interested, but he's a big meanie and I need these to go by November 1st so I threw a few promos [still have others available] and a bulk lot of vinyl. I started it at what I expect to at least get out of the deal, the more the merrier. I don't pay attention to vinyl prices anymore. That's less than 2 bucks a single and LP in this lot. So if you or someone else you know loves vinyl and wants a very good start on a good psy collection, what's left of my vinyl anyways, get them in on this. Other stuff for sale too. Aaron http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZheliospace

i just want to say, thanks. thank you others from the US who are fully aware of the problem with psychedelic music in north america, er, the united states. i say we all get a huge bus and go to canada, or even mexico for an event. =D oh, i want to say i think the latest wave of dark psy should be called "monotonous unpsychedelic trance." k?1?!?! k!!!!thx!!! =]]]]]]]]]] -d

haha! kickass. well, he's been around since 2002 on here, but probably disappeared because of disappointment like many others who just simply moved on. i stuck around, but only in jaded-mode. i'll have to give that album a listen indeed. welcome back, newcomer! -d
