  1. Indeed it's not the classic melodic chill stuff for sure, it's oftenly hypnotico-mental & btw not plenty entertaining all the time.
  2. If you consider that Solar Fields & Aes Dana are the main artists of this roaster from which you can add their project HUVA Network, Globally enjoying Ultimae means at ~ 66% , enjoying Solar Fields & Aes Dana. It's quite simple as that :clapping:
  3. Sorry but i don't see your point here mate, Metapsychic was a netlabel (there was no worries with this release, you confund with The Mindspher's album i think from same label) & according to discogs, this compilation received a good support (see the number of holders for example) & also if you check the rating =>http://www.discogs.com/Various-Human-Hyperactivation/master/1586
  4. I'm with you for this one, big disappointment...
  5. i was just thinking globally about Chillcode , so not especially for 2008, that's why i wasn't really connected with the results of the poll about Chillcode.
  6. i didn't realize that point indeed
  7. It's weird that a label such as Chillcode doesn't appear at all in the downbeat charts for 2008
  8. To be frank, i never listen to his other project Mendark, how is it sounding, what's the style? I'm curious
  9. As requested here a review of v/a Human Hyperactivation (Metapsychic) 2007 Tracklist: Metapsychic is a net-label held by Lost Buddha & Cosmogenesis. Human Hyperactivation is their second compilation, but their first one commercialized through Internet (the first one was free to download check their website : www.metapsychicrecords.com/ ) Tracklisting: 01. Pan Psychic – In Suspend 02. Mindsphere - Perception 03. Subra - Snel Hest 04. Artifact303 - Trip To The Sun 05. Pandemonium - Pandemonium 06. Liquid Flow - Overdose 07. Alienxxs - Infected Creature 08. Brain Technology - Jungle Hippie 09. Nolax - Pareidolia Compiled by Filipe Santos (Lost Buddha), Cosmogenesis & Octodur Mastered by Dave Hook (Infinite Dimensions) Artwork by Bruno Filizola (Astrancer) 1> I've got a worry with Pan Psychic (Georgy & Ivan Fedorenko) from Russia, his track is too fast to my taste, it doesn't fit well with its content. That's a pity coz with an appropriate tempo, it'd result more attractive; & unfortunately it just gives a headache. 2> Mindsphere (Ali Akgun) from Turkey propulses our ears through the cosmos, the atmosphere is very spatial. The feeling delivered is closed from a goa-anthem like Prana – The Earth which was made with Indoor, that explain too the big Israeli vibe influence here. 3> Subra (Michael Anenburg) from Israel has cooked a more chiselled neo-goa tune which lets a little place for a somehow global melancholic feeling. From a creativity & originality Goa view, it's without doubt the most interesting tune from the compilation; although i'm not convinced by the interest of the acid line's misappropriated. 4> Artifact303 (Zolt Peter) from Romania manages to produce some true happy & powerful Goa sounding & being at the same time quite genuine, i mean this tune doesn't evoke me something already done by the past except an Astral Projection influence in the combo rhythmic-deep bassline. 5> Pandemonium (Filipe Santos) from Portugal comes to rock the place with a hard pumping Goa tune with a massive kick (Miranda or Shiva Shidapu alike). Around 3''00 we benefit from a sweet oriental melody played at the vibraphone & flute, which brings an interesting contrast with the previous ultra-energized acid-rock harmony with the heavy brassy tones option added. From 4''50, the melodic theme is declined another way, focusing on the insane elements to increase the frenzy. 6> Liquid Flow (Tomislav Savic) from Croatia, shows an intense & quite short strong 303 Goa tasty stuff. No, we aren't on a Acid Flash compilation, but really on Human Hyperactivation. Here as you probably already understood, we are in the land of the big smashing sound, pure body music. 7> Alienxxs (Simon Bay) from Switzerland has done an average tune : nothing bad but nothing brain blasting too : it goes fast (too fast), it lacks a lot of contrast (please work a bit more the mix of tune next time, everything is at the same level...) & the sounds are quite common. 8> Brain Technology (Damir Abjanovie) from Croatia brings a more hypnotic goa side that could make your head turned. It could remind slightly Disco Volante with Forbidden (Floorplay remix) but much more thick, powerful & faster. 9> Nolax (Christoph Mitsch) from Austria, decides to employ heavy shrill tones that's a risky choice & i don't share it. For me these kind of sounds are closer to the torture than the entertainment, sorry. For the old school lovers, this compilation is good choice as the selection permits to range a nice variety of Goa tune from more or less acid to Oriental influenced through hypnotic, shrill, emotional or adrenalistic styles. Furthermore some tracks will certainly remind you some good old goa productions & nice memories. Highlights: 2,4,5 Good moments:3,6,8 7,5/10

    Review Requests

i made one at that time (when it was released), i post it here immediately :posford:
  11. I have made some (only connected with the psy scenes labels such as Ultimae, Chillcode, chilltribe,Interchill, Organic, Cosmic leaf, SST, BNE 3d Relax etc...) , you can read them here eitheir under my current log LLB or my former one Le Lotus Bleu.
  12. Indeed now Elysium (Kris Thinning) works under Wombat Music his chill project & concentrates his work only on it, he released an album on Chilltribe.
  13. i've got awful news for you dear Insejn... concerning Yumade, indeed there was 2 french guys inside, one of them was Dj Péa (Pierre Busson), today he's making music under the name Yuksek, he even got a mainstream dancefloor hit under this project : Tonight in a lame copycat of ...Daft Punk =>http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/yuksek/video/x7t098_yuksek-tonight_music Furthermore in interviews he totally denied his past trance connexions & productions, even going to piss on the psytrance scene Sometimes success, money, change peole Concerning 3 point turn, French guys too (i think they've got dom-tom origins, i mean our exotic french islands or territories such as Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyane for example) are still in music productions but more focused on professionnal purposes with their studios like creating jingles for TV you see or proposing mastering services.
  14. Side Liner - Crying Cities (Cosmicleaf cd /2009) Review Track List: 1>Crying Cities 2>Highway Dreams 3>Old Neighborhood 4>Dead End 5>Camera Obscura (vs. Red Eye Express) 6>Violet Room (remix for Zero Cult) 7>Tall Stories (remix for D.Batistatos) 8>2222 (Prostranstvo 2008 mix) 9>Urban Haze (vs Secret Sound Labs) 10>Crying Cities Remix (Cydelix's ambient version) About Cosmicleaf => It's an Australian label (Initially from Greece in 2003) component of the CUT music label group which means: - C for Cosmicleaf, the Chill-ambient division. - U for Unicorn, the Progressive side. - T for Tempest, the Electronica-techno dimension. The artists involved in this group comes from different countries such as Greece (mainly), France, Israel, Australia or New Zealand. Who is Side Liner ? => it's Nick Miamis, and Crying Cities is its fourth album on Cosmicleaf, elsewhere he also released 3 albums, all on Unicorn, under the name "Mendark". By the way, this other project, is its first one starting in 2003. What's Inside Crying Cities ? => The global style coming out from Side Liner in this album is melodic, hypnotic (i'd say probably the main sin would be too repetitive/hypnotic) . I'd precise exactly it's the kinda chill stuff which i call "Slow motion productions". I mean it always give me the impress the track was initially made faster & then the tempo was reduced to confer it the chill aspect. Indeed when i say : "it gives me the impress to be reduced",actually i'm convinced it's not the case and just a peculiar trademark from some chill, downtempo artists. It's a style existing since a long time in the psytrance scene (i remember of Tandu - New Aura in the same construction 's approach) but i admitt i always encountered difficulties to enjoy it. By the way & despite this preamble, i found positive points in this album . I'll focus on them from now. Let's start with Crying Cities the eponymous title of this album appearing twice. There's the original version and the Cydelix ambient version. My choice goes to the second coz it's succeed to reach what, for me Side Liner manages with difficulties : conferring an atemporal side to his chill productions. Globally he tends to offer a bit too much elements like a dance floor stuffs, in this version from Cydelix we get layers, it's more floating & fluffier, based on the harmony. To be honest, listening this album at first, i noticed i was preferring the tracks in collaboration or with a remix add, so i was starting to think the solo tunes from Side Liner in this album were weaker up to Highway Dreams. This one constitutes my highlight from the album. Previously, i told Side Liner not always succeed in giving this magical atemporal touch in his production, here it's the perfect example that he can & he does . The tune has a morning colouration, i'd say a bit melancholic for the mood. It has another particularity, its rhythmic with sort of soft bongos or African drums alike. There's also a good work for the background soundscape with different crispy tones all along. I was speaking of collab', it's the case with Camera Obscura (vs. Red Eye Express). Here we find out some common positive elements with previous track quoted at the 2 main following differences : the colouration is dark here & it's a collab :clapping: . For the rest, there's all the good & nice trademarks explained previously. The rhythmic is nevertheless on the downtempo-breakbeat side and focus more on special resonating tones on the second half. Another collab deserves some attention, Violet Room (remix for Zero Cult), in this once again Side Liner makes me lie coz this time he's the remixer & not the remixed, & the result is fucking smooth & can't be more that easy to listen & go through it or with it . You know it's the stuff you listen without realizing really what occurs & when it's finished, you're thinking "shit 6 minutes 45 has passed really ? That's not possible, time must have accelerate highly suddenly!". I have also some sympathy for Dead End, despite the vocals which according to me don't match very nicely with the harmony (probably a bit too much present for me). Here, the construction is funny, like an hesitating progression, fill in with lots of sensibility. I'll conclude with another collab', Urban Haze (vs Secret Sound Labs). Listening to this tune which is quite entertaining by itself, several nice musical reminiscences come to my brain : - Infected Mushroom, coz the part with the hacked melody with fx, it reminds some tunes from the Freestyle Cd of Converting Vegetarians. -Mauxuam due to the dark & mental(not to say a bit experimental) production's style with unpolished bank tones used. So , very quick sum up: Highlight: 2 alternative Challengers (by order of preference):10, 6, 5, 9, 4
  15. For The moment, the track which reflects the most some ability in music's production is Pyramidal Form. For someone which started only 2-3 weeks ago it's not bad , it's even possible to notice the progress betwwen the 4 tracks :clapping:
  16. For sure, didn't i post a message here about that ? http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=55293 :clapping:
  17. ABAKUS - May 2009 After Hours Dj mix Here's a little mix from Russ (Abakus) in the mood of his last free album released on his label Moodus rec=> http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=7F...ZZK8AULYalJ5Fig "Some moody dreamyness sounds for after a long bank holidays partying" www.myspace.com/artistabakus :posford:
  18. Haltya - Book Of Nature (Exogenic) 2008 For this 3rd Haltya's album ''Book Of Nature'', Tommi Sirkiä, aka Justin Space, Pelinpala, has produced alone (without Jürgen Sachau, aka Outolintu, busy on his side with his solo debut album released in 2007). Known as a Funkadelik & trancey act, Haltya delivers fresh, melodic, happy dancefloor music ; this new opus is nevertheless the opportunity of integrating a wider range of musical influences. If you're fond of Haltya, you'll enjoy for sure the artwork which follows perfectly the style exposed since the first album made of forest elements with elves playing music more or less hidden in this nature. Tracklisting: 1. Nature's Secret 2. Rainbow Funkster 3. Finny Funny Finished 4. Kawaii Bushido 5. Borboleta Purpura 6. Daisy Chain 7. Between the notes 8. Mean Green Monster Machine 9. Firecracker 10. Make it look like an accident 11. Fry 12. Mothership 13. Walking On Sunshine Track 1 is just a quick spoken intro of the album, the music really starts with next track smile.gif . 2 => We've got typical Funkadelik music here : bouncy, bracing with some funny sounds embellishing the whole & a nice deep purring bassline. The rhythmic is somehow sounding Tribal-Housey to me in a midtempo mode. 3 => We gain in speed now , still Funkadelik but with a robotic break from 3''00. The atmosphere is more shaking with a more classical rhythmic. Track 4 is an experimental transition (which indeed announces a style evolution or the next song wink.gif ). 5 => Borboleta Purpura is an alchemy of 2 main influences : Samba & Jazz, the whole packed with Suomi spirit. Concretely, the rhythmic is definitively Brazilian. The piano's melody is at first in Samba mode but the second time is Jazzy & finally comes back in its initial way. The bass resonates Jazzy all along. Remain a flood of tones which are common to Suomisound, . The result is unexpected but truly a success. 6 => I need to use my 'Jump o' meter' tool to measure the amplitude of the groove in Daisy Chain : Daisy my little froggie (represented in the top left on the cover of the album). According to Daisy wearing a big smile & climbing at the top of its ladder, all sounds very good biggrin.gif . But beware the song could reveal also an aquatic & mischievous universe... Like every 2 songs, now you understood that ... No... it's not the time to go pissing, at least not yet! It's another sonic transition, weirder & longer than previous one & it's highly probable that the musical direction (clue) will evolve again. 8 => Orchestral opening for Mean Green Monster Machine, which doesn't constitutes not the more classical influenced production but the more psychedelic stuff of the album. Sometimes the orchestral pattern can occur again, in an impromptu way. Question: Is there still a slice of Funk here? Reflexion:...hum... Answer: no slices of Funk as it was eaten by the Mean Green Monster Machine. Indeed the atmosphere is like being inside a factory with an all robotized equipment & no single presence of human beings, you visit the different parts of the factory with different machines. 9 => We're keep going on Psychedelic but back in Suomisound & spirit. Firecracker is a short tune, very happy & raving. There's something of a Japanese video game musical thema, with peaceful, amusing sides & some rush/tense periods. Do i really need to introduce this new transition track? I will only mention a sample sound, which is normally famous to every Psytrance fans who respects himself, the grinding door, that our dear beloved GMS (Shrek tune) have contributed to its notoriety. 11 => Question (from the same person about T8) : It's 2 tracks without any Funk inside, how about this one? Let's simply say about Make it look like an accident, it's the Funkadelic climax of this album, a fast vigorous, nervous tune with a catchy melody & an avalanche of tones under which you're tottering. 12 => We're going fatter now & the bassline is still nervous. There's a freak atmosphere starting with the break at 3'40 & progressing up to a strong level of musical rave standing. Hopefully the last 1''30 comes back to 'normal'. 13 => A fat production again, that i'd qualify Funky-Jazzy. I enjoy especially how Haltya proceeds here to escape from the break thanks to the creeping bass. The final apotheosis consists in a multi-layered melodic part, a thick one biggrin.gif. If you're already an Haltya's fan, this new album is for you without any restrictions. For the others, if you're into melodic psychedelic music or have nothing against Funk & Suomisound: Go,Go,Go, Try it, Buy It, Enjoy it! Mark : 9/10 Recommended
  19. 1. World Travelling Eclipse Chasers => Somehow this tune reminds me : Sonic Fusion - Tribal Warrior, not as percussive but in its long hypnotic groovy construction with African influences. 2. A Poem Of Hope => Direction orient with flutes & sitar which deliver bewitching melodies, more strangely you can notice dogs barking very far in the background. 3. Artificial Earth Satellite => Here, some voices are incorporated & i'm quite destabilized by the presence of the 'chiki chika' gimmick. Indeed for me, it's very connoted to the Latin eurodance productions (Not Real Presence group anthem's Chiki Chika). Here this gimmick confers a rhythm to the tune, a tempo; that's quite different from its original use. 4. 96 Plus A Few Seconds => Just a transition between a first-3 tracks «Deep , mental & hypnotic» part with a new direction in the album. 5. Time Zones => Lets place to more melody, nevertheless the way it's delivered is sounding too puffing for me : it's somehow lacking of conviction & results clumsy. 6. Future Society => A new step forward into melody & plus, i would add harmony. This tune contrasts with all the previous by its colouration, less sad, more contemplative & fairish or spacey. The style differs too here : the rhythmic is more present with a first-plan sustained bassline. Some little French words are scattered all over the song 'mon dieu!' (oh! my god) in order to probably highlight an un-wished situation. 7. You Are On My Mind =>A simple Piano + Wombat's vocal's song at first, the layer & synths only appear after 3'00 rejoined later on by the rhythmic, all this in a very soft mixing. 8. Copalectrocabana => Another step forward happiness with this traditional Brazilian theme in a Wombat's adaptation, more moody... 9. Why Not? => Constitutes the second transition's phase of the album toward the third & epilogue part of Shameful Silence. 10. Shimmering Madness And Hovering Butterflies => The tune is particularly airy with a freshness coming out from it. 11. Shameful Silence I + 12. Shameful Silence II => Some texts by Houry Seukunian are incorporated , in English on the first part & more astonishingly in French again on the second part. The first part is more electronic whereas the second is more purified. These tracks constitutes a melancholic end to this album consisting in a realistic (melt of asking, doubts, hopes) vision from a 'mature' artist with his environment. My favourites: 1,6,8,10,12
  20. V/A Light Aromas (Chillcode) 2006 TRACK LIST: 1. Vega Networks (Beatstream rmx) ENTERPRISE 2. Summer Breezin KUBA 3. Lovely Atoms ENTERPRISE 4. Sparkling Circles JONG 5. After the cut TEN MADISON 6. Chiquita KUBA 7. Life in Dub AURAL FLOAT 8. Echtzeit TEN MADISON 9. Fuzzy Vibes VIBRASPHERE 10. Supernatural SAAFI BROTHERS This new cup of Aromas from Chillcode contains 10 different ones emanating from worldwide. The first flavour comes from germany with Enterprise (Alexander Khorosch), Vega Networks is about light floating piano & sweet layer, an ideal starting track for a chill compilation. Kuba (Laurence Harvey) in Summer Breezin is accompanied with birds, Balearic guitar, atmospheric piano, it sounds or smells here in your cup like the tittle announced it . Ok you didn't get enough Enterprise's aroma with the first tune, here's a remedial session with Lovely Atoms. You'll recognize here some Entheogenic's loops from their last album 'Golden Cap' which are in the background. You can add some short strings notes plus a muffled, melancholic & discret melody which will be held on by further violins presence later on. Time for some French aromas with Jong (Jonathan Garnier) – Sparkling Circles let us penetrate into a deeper dub side coppled with indian flute. Usually , i like Jong's tune but this time it doesn't work on me (too soft for me i think...). Ten Madison (Peter Jurgens) delivers several floating layers evaluating into an infinite universe, sometimes you get some retro-back effects on sounds in order to maintain your brain focused on the music & avoid you to sleep (especially if you're driving while listening to it ). It's a very pleasant track, timeless; listenable hours during repeatdly without any drawback, just some "Travelling without moving". Second dose of Kuba called Chiquita, it sounds country-blues chill to me with some extra exotic flavours such as the vocal or some rhythmical elements. It's quite genuine compared to the traditional range of chilly-trancey productions i'm used to heard. Ok it's probably not a very close comparison but there's something likeable in the spirit to KLF – THE White Room (the album) according to me. Seventh ingredient of this Light Aromas is prepared by Aural Float (Gabriel Le Mar, Pascal FEOS and Alex Azary), Life in Dub uses a warm bass for a smart jazzy downtempo tune. Second dose of Ten Madison with Echtzeit, hum probably the overdose... a naive song, too long & puffing for me, i never match at any time with this track. Before finishing this cocktail of aromas, it's still time to incorporate some Swedish tones & Vibrasphere are man powered for this. Fuzzy Vibes is a dub tune with some piano parts a la Supertramp from 4'00 (i mean both in the melodic way of playing here & with lots of echoes/resonance). There's also some Balearic guitar & maybe kinda oboe in the background. For the final, Chillcode have included some Supernatural aroma coming out from Saafri Brothers (Gabriel Le Mar + Michael Kolbecker). As usual you can expect from them, some rough edge, tecky 'mental' chill production at its best. Once again the balearic guitar is present here accompanied with some woman vocals. Climaxes: 5,6,10 Favourites:1,2,3,7,9 Artificial Aroma:8 A nice compilation in the average quality from Chillcode, i guess next compilation will be about Strong Aromas... mark:8/10
  21. V /A Surreal Detachment (2006 Bootheswara records) It's the first release from Bootheswara records, a Macedonian label runned by Blisargon Demorgorgon (Valentino Trencev). The CD was mastered by Tim Schuldt (4CN). The cover artwork design was made by Ernest Dlutek, the style is similar to a Megadeath cover album to my view. Tracklist: 1>Para Halu – Welcome To Future (148) 2>Atriomh – Rakija (146) 3>Traskel – Knas (148) 4>Encephaloticys – Red Ball (149) 5>Astrometrix – Kill0gram (150) 6>Baphomet Engine – No Room (147) 7>Blisargon Demogorgon vs Stranger – Cosmic Dance Of Shiva (150) 8>Phobos Azazel – Ninth Gate (Abandoned Noise) (148) 9>Tryambaka – Multipass (146) 1> Let's open this v/a with Para Halu (Adam Hohmann & Andras Fekete from Hungary) which delivers some quite minimal dry darkpsy in Welcome To The Future, definitively mentally oriented for me. Usually i'm not matching with the dry darkpsy side but here the mental atmosphere contributes a lot in the positive re-evaluation for my taste. 2>Generally when some positive feedbacks about an artist come to my ears before the opportunity of listening to him ; i always check-confirm it with the music. That's the case here with Atriohm(Aleksandar Golcev & Leonid Golcev from Macedonia). In a way there's something similar in Rakija with Ocelot's atmosphere but in a darker & deeper way with the same raving feeling with twisted fx. It's not the pure pumping darkpsy style, it's more on the dark story telling expressive side. 3>Traskel (Marcus Ryman from Sweden) with Knas is a good discovery for me. High sharply, twisted lead coupled with a muffled bassline confers a nice intriguing evolving all along with a same common basis. I consider this tune even if the tempo is quite high (148) as mental & dance floor. 4> New track & new orientation with Encephaloticys (Vasko Velickovski from Macedonia) – Red Ball, this time the register is more apocalyptic& intense. Not too much things to say, it's a pure trippy music, just enjoy... 5> Astrometrix (Moshe Ivan from Israël) delivers like Atriohm in Killogram, an Ocelot's production alike. It's very twisted, lots of fx, plus a cosmic & robotic-satellite feeling. There's especially this Ocelot's trademark: an always collapsing lead & i must admit i'm quite fan about this trick too . Nevertheless I wouldn't considerate Astrometrix as just one of his clones as he got his own rhythmic pad furthermore his break building is completely different at 2'50 (it goes faster contrarily to the major part of the classic breaks). 6> Baphomet Engine (Luis & Fabio from Brazil) offers what they usually produce: some intense, fast darkpsy. In No Room, i'm happy coz it's not as dry as usual, indeed it's more hypnotic groovy & crazy. I've got the impress of becoming a computer which is nearly reaching the saturation point of explosion. Very mental & fast-powerful hypnotic dance floor tune here, be careful too much listening of this song can only damage your toxins . 7> Blisargon Demogorgon vs Stranger (Stephanos Gkokakos) for Cosmic Dance Of Shiva, bring a linear dark production for me. Indeed it concerns the bassline: a rolling flat one very oppressing one. It's without doubt very psychedelic, but for some reasons, it's not my taste. I have to mention here, that this track is more dedicated to Parvatti, Doof & others heavy psychedelic psytrance label's fans (maybe you), according to me. 8> Phobos Azazel (Darko Noveski from Macedonia) – Ninth Gate 'Abandonned Noise remix' (Elena Simonovska & Valentino Trencev) propose us a corrosive darkpsy production, aggressive tortured synths accompanied with plaintive lead. It's probably the most body involving track of the cd. 9>Tryambaka (Tiago Pimentel from Portugal) has cooked the most coloured tune from this v/a, as a result it's also the happiest track of Surreal Detachment. As an antagonist contrast result philosophy compared the rest of the compilation which could be resume this way: 'from the dark comes the darker, & from the darker if life still resides into it, one day will emerge the blinking result composed of sweat yellow shinning lights'. At first it hurts, it's normal it means that you're still alive, & the physical pain will vanish quickly . Climax(***):3-6-9 Favourites(**):2-4-5-8 Outsiders(*):1-7 This first V/A ranges from a large spectre of the darkpsy production, it's eclectic from mental to pumping dancefloor through apocalyptic or more melodic or colourful productions. It's also artistically & geographically diversified (Macedonia, Sweden, Israel, Brazil, Portugal,Hungary). If Bootheswara records Keeps going this quality & diversity , they should expect to encounter a long musical business career.
  22. Digicult is a Belgian duo composed of Davy Piessens & Bart De Decker (aka dj Nemesis), After a very promising full on-goaish influenced tune released on the starter compilation from Avigmatic, it seems quite normal to meet them again for a debut album on this same French label from the Lyon's suburb, founded by Dj Chaï & Khetzal. The band provides a mainly melodic & morning full on which doesn't mean this album lack of energy & vivacity on the contrary. I think they deserve to be quoted as belonging to this new category of more subtle Full On artists such as Optokoppler for example. I mean a Full On trance which always keep a floating, oniric or adrenalistic feeling, indeed in a word emotions without focusing on the usual high bpm . *** 1 This opening tune reveals a light mystic forest ambiance mixed with percussions appearing later on. 2 It's a more swift & nervous dancefloor production. Around there's a nice little break made of the hacked/syncoped elements of the song. You've got some goaish flavours from 3'30 with this typical oriental & vibrating old school lead which brings more heat & btw more depth and contrast to the the track. 3 A very good & unexpected deep jazzy atmosphere serves as intro alas i think i'd appreciate it to keep more going all along the tune. However the next is nice too composed of a groovy-funky bass. 4 The track giving its name to the album has the specificity of incorporating more acoustic elements (a guitar). During the core-peak many layers deliver slightly shrill but very fast arpeggios. 5 Here we go with a more floating, muffled, vapourish ambiance at first , it pursues in this atmosphere, this time multi-layered with a catchy rolling bassline. The lead before the 3'40 tiny break has a pretty texture, a bit nasal. Then we keep going with another interesting lead, it gives the impress to be in weightlessness especially in the position of a cosmonaut walking on the moon: you don't control very well your scrolling but it's fun. 6 Tougher , rougher tones & bassline compose this new track, it gets obvious it'll evolve in a frenetic way with intensity. Like in some previous tunes before, during its core-peak time, you've got a flood of melodic layers answering to each other. 7 Now it's time for more rocking production with some slightly sour hatred riffs with delay & echo on metallic tones. At beginning there's also a cold ice block lead conferring a sweet melancholic feeling before the more rock part occurs. I particularly enjoy the bassline here, reminds me the New Wave period. 8 We enter a cosmic dimension, high in the stratosphere above the clouds but also accompanied with vociferous leads & some powerful winds. The rhythm is more kickin than than the rest of the album & the hit hats are specially metallic & resonating. It's also embellished with spatial robotic voices which fit well in the global harmony here. 9 You're welcomed by a robotic, hacked, sharpy lead & a big bouncy bassline. Many leads are present here and sometimes i must admit it's quite confused & chaotic by moment. This one is under the average quality production of the album for me, i think a lifting remix couldn't bad for this one. Overall not a bad tune but the harmony is a bit harder to perceive or enjoy. *** Belgium has always brought several talented electronic artists through the last 20 years among the different styles coz this country has a strong history, connection with this underground music. Psytrance doesn't escape to the rule & Digicult should normally become soon a new rising star in their country & obviously beyond. Mark:8/10 Climaxes: 3,5,7,8 Outsiders:1,2,4,6
  23. Optokoppler - Replugged (usta 2005) I first heard their sound on Loud Frequency with Sie Nannten Ihn Locke, i labelled their work as morning prog. So beginning the listen of Replugged i was convinced it would be this direction. I quickly understand i got false. Clean : A muffled dark hypnotic full on whirlwind at first which gets more light contrasted after 4'45 with a melodic will o' the wisp lead. At 6'15 a deep abyssal break atmosphere prepares the will o' the wisp climax conferring a final cosmic floating touch to the tune. Straight : The tones are more metallic here (the high volted lead at 2'45) from which results a more slicing/bleeding spirit with a still muffled dark flavoured background. The break at 4'30 is nicely sad, gloomy reminding me a bit of the Cosma-Non Stop album. That's when, the high volted lead riffs come back at 6'00. The last 2' are more enlighten with a background shrill woman chant. After a short free fall break, the shy & limping morning Tool Time : The progression of the track is more spacey upto 1'50. Then the bassline starts to surge accompanied with a sustained rhythmic.emotional melody makes his appearance at 4'34. The melodic theme wins self assurance with time & becomes a more virulent lead. Persia : Contrarily to the previous ones, this tune has an immediate energic beginning coupled with an instantaneous bedecked sound treatment. At 3'00 a morning lunar & oniric lead arrives. After a dozen of seconds around 4'00 where you've got the impress of going beyond the sound barrier & you penetrate a turbulence field upto 5'45. After a short moment stationary, waiting for your authorization to open & cross the magnetic field , you can at least engage speed to the max & activate your turbo booster, direction planet Persia. That's when the tune becomes goaish backgrounded tasty to my ears. Conqueror : At 2'35 the lead is like a facetious & happy alien trying to talk with human beings with no real result. He encounters more success muting his voice into a bewitching cosmic siren chant at 3'52. Now it's late you've been caught &are under its power. Into The System : The rhythmic is close to Tool's one, but there's more : tons of nervous sharpened riffs conferring an aggressive but always positive feeling to the song. To confirm my words, Optokoppler have all forecasted with a break sample at 4'47 'a woman cries of surprise & a man tell her «wow wow wow, relax, you're ok …it's just a simulation, it's over, it was a test, judgement, concentration, technic high schools are everywhere…You get some blasts, You're ok ?'. Get some atmospheric layer in order to catch your second breath before heavy rocking starts again Into The System with more self assurance as now the woman is able to declaim these 3 words (8'52). Intergalactic : I don't why the Optokoppler dudes have decided to include this more clubtrance tune. Ok it's not very noticeable at first as it is still quite close to the style developed in their album. None less, it's particularly sounding with the break at 5'40 & following up the end. That's a pity, personally i'd better enjoy a more groovy morning production like they managed to succeed with Sie Nannten Ihn Locke in the Loud Frequency compilation. Traditions : One of the major attraction in this tune resides, for me, in its 'yoghurt fx part' between 7'50- 8'00, it's a very little thing in the track but it makes me really happy & going degenerate. To obtain a good idea of Optokoppler's soundscapes take a third from Cosma-NonStop album for the night-dark emotional vibe, a third from Blue Vortex for their bassline & morning full on harmonies than add a neo-goa background flavour in the melodies without forget a hint of their own spacey-ship tones & happy energized trademarks. If this last time your taste got disconnected from full on productions, going through the listening of Optokoppler's album could Replugged, reconciliates you with this style. I do enjoy the whole album except 7 a bit less coz of the club trance final part influence. Climax of the album :4,5,8 8/10
  24. Tri-Force - Entrance To Reality Entrance To Reality is the debut album of Yoshinori Saito from Tokyo, he wrote all tracks, except T.6 which is a remix of a track from George Winston. The mastering was done by Tatsuya Kase & the graphic design is by Masaki Obari. 1. Opening on a quite long & sweet morning muffled intro upto 1'25, then a quite discrete rhythmic appears with a round kick. Since the intro your brain will be hooked by the morning floating layer & harmony, from 06 there's a little tip for the background rhythmic made of sounds close a repairman hitting on something. The atmosphere is like a wonderful wake up, thanks to your open window you can already smell the morning dew on the roses (the melodic lead from 2'20) coupled with an imminent sunrise (at 3'20 with the voice sample fx). At 4'10, the content gets slightly more clubby but results still a lot acceptable, little by little all your senses set up back to their optimized possibilities. From 6'20 your energy bar is full, you're now ready for a full day fill in with mental & physical activities. elements,a bit more smashing, have already oftenly make & experiment weird mixing tones compared to more classical 2. Water drops & didgeridoo (performed by Nata) constitute this mysterious intro, quite long once again upto 1'57, whereas the rhythmicappeared since 1'10. The kick is very round though. A very far spatial layer opens the harmonic part, soon followed by several elements, reinforcing the lost & cosmic floating feeling. The coming of the didgeridoo at 3'19 is a but unexpected & incongruous for me nevertheless from a pure Japanese musical conception it doesn't surprised me as much after all (i mean Japanese but with European sounding approach in their productions). All along the tune you may noticed a little sparkling sounding like an instantaneous fairy appearance (for example at 2'08 ) to guide through out space in the good direction. From 5'35 the track evolves to an happier sonic universe part compared to the didgeridoo one, the melody makes me think to a little facetious cartoonish character dancing by jumping from one feet to another describing a circle. 3. This time no big intro, direct to more night dancing coloration of course the speed is faster, the rhythmic more kickin & the tones results too a bit less polish, at least at first upto 2'13. The melodic lead comes then & Tri-Force , as i already explained before, like to surf on the edge with some more clubby elements from time to time. That's slightly the case with this lead but it's more obvious with the one at 4'36 in a slightly sour way, but nothing cheesy for me. A break made of samples 'Give me one rhythm' 'please write Trance Personnal Waves' ,'Welcome to reality' with a slightly robotised voice occurs from 5'28 upto 5'58. Then the cyber-robotic feeling of the voice is kept with the following harmony & the squeaning rawly hacked tone upto 6'53. Time to let place for a 1'20 outro still in the cosmic floating & i'm bit lost in the outer space way but i'm having strong fun. 4. The sound of the intro is typical for me from the basket playing, i mean the sound produced by the baskets on the wooden area while running &changing direction. The kick gets one more time louder here. There's some fairy loops illuminating the tune from 1'34. Upto 3'34. Time for a progressively floating break made of the remaining fairy loop letting place to a magic up & down going carillon & backgrounded woman voice layer. The rhythmic restart at 5'08 with the pre-quoted elements. The track wins in density with a melodic lead at 6'00 unfortunately i find it to be too clubby-cheesy this time, hopefully it doesn't last longly (hardly a minute). Then there's the come-back of the fairy loops at 6'54 that have vanished earlier for a nice sweat progressive outro. 5. The intro let think that this tune will more look like to Trance Personnal Waves & that's what happens : a more night dancing atmosphere, or maybe grey cloudy should i say, embellish with more boisterous tones. The spirit with Tri-Force still keep cosmic floating exploration like with this layer at 2'02. It's another nice spatial trip without doubt more energic & shifting though, like especially from 6'02. Just close your eyes & switch on your brain… 6. This one is a step forward into the clubby sphere announcing the clubby climax of the album with the next track. Very limit on the edge with proof of the melodic lead at 2'13 that really sounds clubby-puffing to my eardrums. The backgrounded morning floating harmonies are still present & the tune gets a bit more chiseled after 3'00, even if some noticeable clubby trademarks remain as some drum rolls at 4'25, 4'50 & the big one at 5'40 in guise of break. At this moment (3'06) the melodic part is kinda slightly sour rain falling over you. After the break at 5'15 & the restart, you've got some typical psychedelic hacked autotuned voice as a melodic part at 6'45. 7. I don't like too much this one coz it's a just remix , so it means it doesn't receal all Tri-Force trademarks for me. Indeed it's just too way clubby for me that's all, just check as main example the piano part at 4'30 and at 6'15 in order that you'll be able to make yourself an opinion about it. So i skip it. 8. Last one with a pumping structure, possess an undeniable positively happy energic & bouncing melody from 1'20. This must be the first time in the album i have this impress of a fat bass sustaining the whole construction & also about so much musical power in a Tri-Force's tune, check it at 2' 50 for example. The tune textures gets very rich around 3'00 then comes back to more lightness progressively upto the floating break at 4'00. Around 5'30 a more clubby synth is added but as mentioned before, the whole content is already very rich so it doesn't bother me here, taken me away inside the big musical Tri-Force tornado ; same thing later on even if this time it is more noticeable with the melodic lead. Favorites :All except 7. If you aren't allergic to some clubby influences mixed with floating morning melodies & harmonies, Tri-Force is probably as strong as Phi (from Elf-Music also), even maybe a little better but in a different style. 8,5/10 Recommended
  25. Downbeat Liquid Volume 1 (Chillcode) 2006 1> Hi-Fi Companions > Spaceships (5:45) 2> Enterprise > Two Cups Of Coffee (7:14) 3> Jong > Hymn To Kali (8:09) 4> Enterprise > Patchhead (7:37) 5> Sundial > Sacred Plants (6:12) 6> Schatsi > Clouds Over Stalden (8:54) 7> Jaïa > December (8:14) 8> Magnetrixx > Tiefsee (9:20) 9> Vibrasphere > Forest Fuel (7:27) 10> U-Recken > Aquatic Serenade (4:40) After many quality chill albums, here's a new step in the Chillcode's history releases with Downbeat Liquid Vol.1 as it's the first compilation from the label. The design was made by http://www.ar34.net & the cd was mastered by Martin Eyerer 1. The journey begins with Hi-Fi Companions composed of Merv Peppler (aka Eat Static) & Steve Joliffe. The band is most known for jazzy downtempo tunes but this one is a bit different. They offers ethereal & floatings leads coupled with muffled synths, the whole immersed in a tropical summer night atmosphere. 2. Enterprise (Alexander Khorosch) is introduced to us with Two Cups Of Coffee, it's probably a way of announcing that he will appear twice on the compilation . So this first coffee cup is fill in with jazzy influences, like this if you were hoping that vibe from HiFi Compagnions, you can compensate by grabbing it here . A particularity of this tune is to be rich in elements, the vibraphone melody is especially focused on all along bringing a sweet & wooly aspect. 3. Jong (Jonathan Garnier a french dude) is a newcomer on the chill scene, he has just released one other track under the name Naiad on Hoots rec. It consists in a mixture of Bollywood dub groove with Indian flute melt in sweet sharp cycling up & down loops , it also incorporated some Indian singing woman samples. The style is very Indian, it's an exotic & muggy atmosphere described here. 4. Second cup of coffee from Enterprise with Patchhead, the situation seems to occur in slow motion with humans being walking & acting generally in a completely dislocated way. it's like instead of making a step after another, you were propulsed from one meter in lenght & height each 2 steps or if your neck was growing of half a meter each time you would kiss someone. Welcome in the elastic world of Patchhead ! 5.Sundial (Patryk Gegniewicz, Jaroslaw Jacek, Radoslaw Kochman & Daniel Lulkowski) is a polish project & delivers one of the highlight of the cd for me. The style is without doubt punchier than the range of chill productions brought here in the compilation, you'll notice on the end a famous spoken sample from Ann Clark . 6. It's time for Yoni Oshrat (formerly half of Psysex aka Ace Ventura for his prog productions) & Corin Kiser or let's just say Schatsi , not Skazi em hum ..., but Schatsi! We are proposed stretched wide soundscapes in an environment of a third of dub, a third of Drum n' Bass + Jazz & the last third... was initially mentioned. Clouds Over Stalden is an interesting + complex musical structure nevertheless deeply entertaining too by the way; try to listen to it with your eyes closed for a better effectiveness for your travel above the clouds over Stalden. 7.Jaïa (Yannis Kamarinos) delivers with December something in the same spirit (globally the same tones) that Epsilon released on Hadra (V/A Rabbani) at the major difference that it was more on the proggy side and now this one is more on the chilly one & better too from an emotional view. If you had listened to old school Jaïa stuffs, this one may reminds you 'L'ivresse des profondeurs' in a way but with his current trademarks. 8.Magnetrixx (Stefan Lewin) makes us penetrate through Tiefsee, in a pure jazzy hypnotic groove sound, you can't escape the big deep + arm bass & the melody according to me, comes out from a clarinet. It's the quiet, peaceful & relaxing tune by excellence. 9. Vibrasphere (Rickard Berglöf & Robert Elster) with Forest Fuel have done it again, re-employing the successful formula of the San Pedro (Low Sky mix). For those who still doesn't know the previous quoted tune, let's just say to characterized Forest Fuel, it's kinda ideal tune to listen if you encounter worries to fall asleep & make nice dreams. 10. I'll ve very frank about U-Recken (Yaniv Ben-Ari), i don't see why he's appearing on this compilation for 2 reasons. First, the compilation was supposed to be constituted of 10 brand new tunes. So, it's not the case as it was published on the U-Recken album released on Dooflex this first half year. Secondly, i find out the song to be very pop/chill cheesy, nothing comparable with the rest of the quality's production emanating out from the compilation. I would imagine Downbeat Liquid to conclude on a better note than this. Let's quickly forget this last statement to focus again on the global content, i consider the result as brilliant. I don't like the idea of perfection for a musical taste but without U-Recken, it would have really approach it from very close i think. However i can't do otherwise than Recommend it to every ambient/chill fans. mark: 9/10 Climaxes:1,5,6,7,8,9 Outsiders:2,3,4 Average:10
