  1. Entheogenic are worth checking out if you like Shpongle. The new download only album is great: http://entheogenic-usr.bandcamp.com/ and so are the first two: http://universalsymb...?products_id=29 http://universalsymb...33805172c890a07 As for Shpongle I like all their releases but 'Nothing Lasts...' is my least favourite
  2. Dakini just about wins for me. Dakini together with LSD and Interchill probably are the best labels in their field from a few years ago, but Peak Records put out a few good chilled releases. Namely these comps: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Chillogram/release/585207 http://www.discogs.com/Various-Tranchillizer/release/1296055 http://www.discogs.com/Various-Chilling-Goddess/release/430262 and these excellent artist albums: http://www.discogs.com/Flooting-Grooves-Upsyde-Downe/release/943506 http://www.discogs.com/Peaking-Goddess-Collective-Organika/release/1047536 http://www.discogs.com/Flooting-Grooves-Psydeburns/release/2027197 http://www.discogs.com/Master-Margherita-Hippies-With-Gadgets/release/1783609 If you haven't heard them all of the above are well worth checking out.
  3. I was wondering about that as well. I'd love to get one but no way can I afford that much unfortunately.
  4. I got my signed pledge CD about a week ago, but I don't know if the custom artwork has gone out. I got an email to say it had been dispatched first so if you haven't got one yet I guess yours hasn't been. Also mine was posted in the UK so if you are are abroad I guess it might take some time getting there. I agree the delay was a bit disappointing as we supported the band by paying up front, I actually started the third thread on the Twisted site that Rotwang linked to, even though Benji responded on a different thread at least he did give an answer.
  5. Instead of searching Discogs for releases with the word Goa in them somewhere it might be better to search for releases tagged as Goa Trance, although it relies on the style tag being accurate of course, and I'm sure that there would be disagreement on some. A search for releases that have the style set to Goa Trance and format CD gives 2,464: style:"goa trance" format:cd The search above includes releases that are tagged with more than one style e.g. Goa Trance and Psy-Trance. So same search as above but excluding any release tagged Psy-Trance gives 1,855: style:"goa trance" format:cd -style:psy-trance These searches include duplicates and exclude CD singles and vinyl LP's.
  6. Altered States is loosely based on Dr. John C. Lilly's Ketamine and isolation tank experiments. There is a short explanation of the ape man experiences on this page: John Lilly, Ketamine and The Entities From ECCO As the article linked above explains the ape man thing is an experience that one of Lilly's co-experimenters actually had under the influence of K. Surely the film is just using some artistic licence to show what was happening in the persons own head and how real it seemed to them. A quote from the article: From this experiment, Enright and Lilly drew three important conclusions: "First, one's internal reality could differ radically from the external reality in which one was participating, even with regard to prominent features of the physical environment. Second, the person might remain active physically in the external environment, in a manner not responding closely to one's internal experience of this activity. And third, one could remain totally oblivious to this disparity." I thought that it was an amazing movie when I first saw it when it came out in 1980. This may have partly been that I saw it tripping at a private showing on a large screen, but i do still think that it's good, although the special effects look a bit dated now. Lilly has written a book about his life and work called "The Scientist - A Metaphysical Journey", which has more detail on his experiments and what happened to him.
  7. Two more that definitely belong in a best psy-chill list are: Peaking Goddess Collective - Organika Flooting Grooves - Upsyde Downe Whilst we shouldn't restrict the number of releases per artist, do so many of the Shpongle, Entheogenic, Solar Fields etc. releases really belong in a "Best Of" list? I'm not saying they aren't good, it just seems like some artists have got all of their releases listed without trying to pick the ones that are genuinely the best.
  8. My favourite chilled compilation (at the moment anyway) is TIP CD15: Infinite Excursions 2 - Sonic Hallucinations Great music, nice artwork on the foldout inlay and a good title as well.
  9. Seriously underwhelmed by these two recent releases. Abakus - We Share The Same Dreams Eat Static - Back to Earth And I was dissapointed by Ott - Skylon in comparison to the excellent Blumenkraft.
  10. I got a Movements postcard - but I can't remember which order it came with. Got a James Murray one as well and I haven't even bought the album (yet)
  11. From Amazon.co.uk, marketplace supplier called zoverstocks. I was just lucky to look at the right time I guess! Still waiting for the Ultimae pre-orders to be sent out. Last e-mail said they should be shipping by 15th December so fingers crossed.
  12. Raja Ram Presents - Evolution of Expanded Consciousness Raja Ram says this in the CD insert: "On this album I rounded up 6 of my favourite acts that I felt had the vision and expertise to come up with something special for this concept. Each were given a brief, describing the drugs, cultures and sounds to draw from for their nominated section and of course some I was directly involved with. 6 pieces that hopefully take you on a journey and provide some enjoyment. Not the run of the mill compilation but who wants that!" And Entheogenic - Entheogenic. I guess you would call it a concept album as they say this about it: "On Entheogenic-Entheogenic each song has its own part and relation to the story as a whole. The story's inspiration came from a very intense shamanique experience we shared at this time.We used whatever we had to recreate this event to translate it into the most accurate sound experience we could. " Taken from an interview. More here http://www.trance.net/article/articleview/245/1/27/
  13. Nope ... I did say in case (you haven't heard that it has been re-issued) As you were suggesting someone should listen to an old Entheogenic album that is out-of-print I thought I'd mention one that you can actually get hold of again.
  14. In case anyone hasn't heard Entheogenic's debut album has been re-issued by USR (£6.99): Entheogenic - Entheogenic http://universalsymbiosisrecords.net/usr_s...ff14b40aa9e8705 I ordered a copy back in September when it was released and it was sent out the next day so I can give a good report on their service.
  15. Yeah that's exactly what I mean. So it's OK to post about that type of stuff in General - that's good I'll post in there then, when I feel the urge, and not in Other Electronica. Can't remember where the avatar came from unfortunately (somewhere on the 'net). It's a shame 'cos I'd really like to give whoever did it the credit they deserve. Does anyone know if email notification for thread replies is broken? I have enabled instant notification and this thread says "You are currently receiving email notification of replies" but I never get any for this thread or the others I've posted on.
  16. I recently got a pair of these headphones: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 ohm) The overall sound quality is excellent and the bass is amazing. I'd recommend them if you're in the market for a pair costing around £100.
  17. Jonathan Ott's Pharmacotheon is an amazing book! And Blumenkraft is a stunning CD too
  18. +1 I'd be interested in a Downtempo sub-forum, but I guess that "Other Electronica" is now an appropriate place to start threads about this genre.
  19. Recently managed to get a few of out-of-print CDs Saafi Brothers - Mystik Cigarettes (Blue Room Released) http://www.discogs.com/release/354566 V/A - Quality Relaxation (Chill Tribe) http://www.discogs.com/release/466554 V/A - Liquid Dub Vol. 7 (Liquid Sound Design) http://www.discogs.com/release/85678 been after that one for a while and it was only £3.47. and a few months ago now Aes Dana - Season 5 (Ultimae) http://www.discogs.com/release/165576 that was after the reprints were announced - but it was only £5.00! Now I'm waiting for 5 Ultimae pre-orders. They say they should ship by 6th December. I can hardly wait for the special smelling package to arrive!
  20. It's already had the release date put back once - was initially 11/11/2008. Any bets on how many more times the release date will be changed?
  21. I've got these that I'd recommend: Super Vision and Super Vision II (TIP.World) Spun in Motion (Spun Records) New Maps of Hyperspace (Solstice Music) has got an excellent version of Shpongle's Around the World in a Tea Daze but the rest is a bit short and not that great. And as already mentioned the Twisted DVD is superb and comes with a CD as well.
  22. If you like Adham Shaikh and Lumin then you'll probably like anything else on the Dakini Label, especially Makyo. Lots of Sitar in Jadur Madur by The Dreamtree Project (Adham Shaikh and Uwe Neumann) available direct from Adham at Sonicturtle. Also look out for: Don Peyote - Peyote Dreaming Ganga Giri - Tribe Vibe Flooting Grooves - Upsyde Down Peaking Goddess Collective - Organika
