  1. He's playing in Oregon in September, and depending where it's at a minimum a six hour drive from Vancouver. He may be a legend, but I'm not so much into dark, twisted psy. I like morning trance and uplifting melodies. What I want is to rewind the clock a few years and attend an old skool Goa trance party.
  2. Doesn't really sound that interesting. I think maybe if that's the case it's not really worth going.
  3. I have the opportunity to go see Goa Gil for the first time in September. Can someone explain to me a little about Goa Gil and the music he spins?
  4. IMO being drunk is one of the lamest highs. I get a short lived mood lift, lose some inhibitions, feel swimmy in my head and then get tired and lethargic. Depressants suck. When the buzz starts to hit it feels like the promise of a truly great high and then it just doesn't go anywhere. Plus, alcohol hangovers are the worst of any drug I've tried. I'll take an entheogen or empathogen hangover anytime over that hot, restless, sicky, nauseous headachy feeling the day after drinking a lot. Oh yea...to answer the question......no, i don't enjoy music more when drunk.
  5. That could be true, I don't know. Whenever I explore a genre of music I pretty much research it and find the 'golden age' of the genre and purchase the classics that nearly 100% of the people agree were the gold standards by which all music of its kind can be compared. It means I have a smaller music collection but I'm fairly confident I'm listening to the best of the best.
  6. Sorry to be so lame and state the obvious, but psychedelic trance fucking rocks!!!!! Today I received a used copy of Tantrance 6 from France. The cover art is awesome. When I opened the album cover and was looking at the artwork of the elephants and the temple in the trees inside, I caught the smell of nag champa incense that had somehow burned itself into the album cover....i started to tingle in anticipation of what was awaiting me and wondered where the album had been. I swear, the longer I listen to psychedelic trance the richer and better it gets. There's so much in it, and you hear something different every time. The headspace is amazing. And to think that a couple of years ago I bought this weird album by Pleiadians called Identified Flying Object, listened to half of it and threw it on a back shelf for several years. Geez, this stuff sucks you in and you can't get out!!!!! ....enough rambling but it had to be said.
  7. Sure RAH, go ahead and throw some stuff out there. I know that he's more into the full-on side of psy and doesn't like too much melody and hates vocals. He really likes crazy samples.
  8. I have a buddy who really loves minimal psy with understated melodies. He's really big on layered bass lines. His birthday is in two weeks, and I want to get him the new Shpongle album as well as some great minimal psy. Since I don't listen to minimal, I need some help. Any recommendations of things that can be purchased easily from online shops. If it's any help, I found out he purchased and really likes Rinkadink - Rabbit from the Darkside...or whatever it's called. Any help?
  9. There are a lot of amazing and unique highs to be had from a variety of experiences and substances, but for me..... ....the best high of all is when I'm with friends watching a sunset over the beach or hanging out listening to a favourite band or whatever experience and get a natural rush of euphoria and well being and realize that it didn't take a synthetic chemical to make it happen. :-) Sometimes it's great to be reminded that the greatest things in life are still free.
  10. What exactly is the connection between psychedelic trance and psychedelics? Call me lame and boring, but I've never had the urge to eat a bunch of shrooms, put on some dark psy and listen to an alien voice rasp, "Diieeeeeeeeeeeeee" in a screaming whisper. That would be a recipe for things to head south in a hurry. Shpongle....well....now there's a psychedelic mental orgasm just waiting to happen. That flute....oh my god....that flute has carried me into unions with the divine. I dunno, guess we're all different but it's usually the slow, sweet ethereal and trippy tracks without too much meat that give me the most mileage. Even when I'm tripping to Shpongle and the BPM starts to get too fast, it gets distracting and destroys that cool "slowly twisting and melting into the universe" that I get on the slower music.
  11. Manuser just became another one of my most respected forum members with that tracklist. I'm getting farther away from mainstream trance, but most of those tracks are incredible examples that are timeless favourites of mine. Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Armin van Buuren Remix) and Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (DJ Tiesto remix) are absolutely stunning pieces of art.
  12. The following are on the way as we speak: Colorbox - Train to Chroma City Indoor - Progressive Trance Ott - Blumenkraft Psygone - Optimystique Space Cat - Shapes of Sound The Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing X-Dream - We Created Our Own Happiness
  13. I am rounding out my collection of classic Goa releases, early trance and trance in general. I enjoy buying certain pieces of music not because they are groundbreaking or amazing, but rather because they represent a certain era, sound or progression of electronic music. And to be quite honest, after listening to some of the samples I think parts of this album would make for a great trip.
  14. Thanks for your help Cinos. Yea, now as to the question of "why" I would want it.........
  15. Quite simply put..... Is there any realistic chance of still being able to find this album anywhere? I've tried gemm, amazon, chaosunlimited, saikosounds and psyshop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Try gemm.com or Ebay. I found Tantrance 2 and Tantrance 4 at a cheap price at those sites.
  17. I think I can agree with you Cinos. It would pain me to call any of the artists I mentioned as true Eurotrance. Unfortunately, there are plenty of elitist technophiles who are willing to lump them all together in one unfortunate category.
  18. Eurotrance covers a broad range of trance that from utter crap to complete brilliance. Eurotrance is sometimes known by different tags such as Dutch trance, melodic trance, uplifting trance, mainstream trance, commercial trance or in some cases 'cheese'. Today Eurotrance has become a term that has largely become synonymous with light, fluffy commercial garbage. Eurotrance is characterised by soaring female vocals, uplifting ecstatic melodies, sweeping background synths and lots of buildups and breakdowns. IMO, the golden era of Eurotrance was between 1996 and 2001. Artists and producers such as Armin van Buuren, DJ Tiesto and Ferry Corsten were churning out some mind blowing sets and compilations. Unfortunately, in later years as trance has become more mainstream there has been some real crap produced that has given the trance genre a bad name. Following are some examples of what I consider the absolute best of Eurotrance and are essential to any trance lover's collection: Armin van Buuren - Transparance 004 Kimball Collins - Generation Trance 2000 Ferry Corsten - Trance Nation Tiesto - Majik 6: Live in Amsterdam Tiesto - In Search of Sunrise 3 On the flip side here are some names to avoid like the plague: Ian van Dahl, Lasgo, Scooter and Darude. There is very little Eurotrance that is currently being produced that is worth one cent. If you are interested in exploring Eurotrance, go back to the years when it was actually good.
  19. 30 years here boyz!!!!
  20. I recently acquired Cosmosis Synergy. As with most new albums, I like to give them focused listening, so I took it downstairs to the gym in the apartment to listen to it while I worked out. I got on the treadmill and started walking while listening to the music. Some albums take time to grow on me, but it was apparent this one grabbed me right away. As the psychedelic energy kept growing, I kept upping the power on the treadmill until I was clipping along at a hefty 4.2 mph. I was lost in a sea of fantasy as the music carried me away. I was on a trip of sorts as the music tweaked and twisted my brain, and then it happened..... ....so unexpected and out of the blue, the music paused and a male voice so matter of factly stated, "The drama is internal," and then the music started off again. I nearly fell off the treadmill I was laughing so hard. It was one of the moments of shroom-like brilliance where I was in a headspace where that statement suddenly was the most impressive, mindblowing, clear and funny thing I'd ever discovered in my life. It was that feeling where suddenly you've discovered such a fundamental truth and you can hardly grasp the implications of your discovery. What is yours? As an aside, I really like that track about the crossroads. I grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, USA which is where the crossroads is located at the intersection of state highways 49 and 61. To the side of the intersection there is a huge guitar where he sold his soul to the devil. I never realised the significance of that intersection until later in life. I find it incredible that I find a Goa track that mentions my little rural farm town where I was born.
  21. I'd be interested in Total Eclipse Violent Relaxation. Count my bid in for $10 depending on shipping costs from where you're at?
  22. I realise classifications don't mean much, but is this considered Goa trance? I had this sitting on my shelf for some time before I began collecting Goa. It really doesn't sound like anything else I have in my collection. When I first bought it a couple of years ago I didn't like it and after one half hearted listen I put it away. Now that I'm voyaging into the world of psy/Goa I pulled it out and gave it another listen. I have no previous listening experience with MWNN, but for some strange reason I really appreciate this album. It certainly doesn't have a 'typical' Goa sound. It never gets that crazy or exciting, but it has a steady beat and I like the understated swirling synths and noises going on in the background. It may be the ignorant question of the decade, but is there such a thing as progressive psytrance? This style almost reminds me of prog house or prog trance in some ways. I've not yet listened to anything that I know is considered full-on. Is this full-on?
  23. I perhaps spoke too soon when I said Goa was dead. I was basing that on what I read here in the forums a lot of the time. It's very much alive to me, at least. Trance music in general is not widely popular where I live, at least to look at the music being played in clubs. I think that's probably why sometimes I get a bit discouraged and feel a bit isolated.
  24. Why is it that the Goa scene largely seemed to die? I am nostalgic for an era I never experienced. I can't even begin to imagine what it was like in the glory days from 1994 to 1999. From what I've read I have these mental images of full moon parties on the beaches of Goa and other exotic locations around the world where you had those sunrise moments when your soul rose with the music to greet the rising sun. I was never blessed to be a part of that generation or of the PLUR movement of the early trance movement. No matter what genre and no matter that I didn't experience it, there is something in the old skool Goa and 'normal' trance that always has attracted me, so I know it's not because I have good memories of it. There is a depth to the music that keeps rewarding me in new ways every time I listen. The early music seems so raw and organic in its appeal. The layers of floating melodies pull your mind into a trance where everything is possible. I'm not against drugs and fully believe in the power of MDMA and certain psychedelics as learning vehicles, but my only experiences with the dance scene these days are in crowded, hot clubs with people shuffling around under the influence of dirty E, meth and ketamine. The pounding bass lines go on and on in a relentless beat. Where is the joy, the entheogenic reaching within where you connect with the music and are uplifted to a place where it's just you and the music? I want music that makes me feel free, to be truly alive. Goa has that magic touch. Was it always this way? Did the scene as people describe it ever really exist, or as time goes do they tend to forget the bad parts and only remember the best? Music in the trance genres today seems to be dark and formulaic. It's so polished and technical that the 'soul' of the music is lost. Did the people listening to Goa become disillusioned or tired of the sound? What caused the evolution? Obviously the progressive and full-on sound is alive and well because that's what's being produced now and what people are listening to, but I just don't get it....honestly. I'm sometimes sad for an era of music that I never was able to experience first hand. At least I get to sit at home, put on my headphones and close my eyes and dream. I know that it irks some people, but drugs and electronic music seem to go hand in hand. Does the popularity of certain drugs influence what sounds people want to listen to at any given time? I want to hear from some of you who experienced the early days of Goa. What was it really like? Do you think the spirit still exists, or is it gone forever? I'm 30 years old and go to some of these mainstream electronic music events. I have a good time, but in many respects I feel like an old wannabe that is chasing a ghost that can never be caught. Seriously, if the scene still exits, let me know. I will go to any lengths to travel anywhere in the world if only for one time in my life to experience the magic. I don't know if Shambhala is known on a wide scale or not, but it is a three day electronic music festival about a seven hour drive from where I live. It supposedly is a fantastic event and this year Shpongle will play live as one of the acts. I want to go, but at the same time I'm afraid of being disappointed. Apparently it's in the mountains with stages built in trees, dancing in the forest, all night and all day parties.
  25. Thanks seraph! If these recommendations are anything like your Goa recommendations, I'm going to be one happy man! Actually I already own all the Banco de Gaia albums. I forgot about them. I haven't given them any air time in quite a while.
