  1. Thanks Heva. That's what it is. I must say, I agree with you. It's got a great intelligent groove to it.
  2. A friend burned a CD for me, but I forgot to label it. It sounds a bit minimal and the first track has a sample that says, "This is my magic eye, I can see what people are thinking." Later another sample says, "It's not day-glo, it's fluorescent" Is this Atmos - Headcleaner?
  3. I'm a bit confused and feeling anticipation at the same time. I just did a search for "Matsuri" and "The Truth of Communication" and I found a live link that goes to the old Goa review page that used to be found here at psynews. Are they available through the website, or how did this happen? The Truth of Communication
  4. I don't quite understand this post. I checked my Matsuri - The Truth of Communication, and the track list is completely different. Mine has Pleiadians, AP, Quirk, Nervasystem, Inscape, Typhoon, Endora and Kailash tracks on it. Anyway, I'm gonna give it a listen this afternoon. Edit: Wait......hold that thought....I completely get it now. I was misunderstanding the post; you were talking about two completely separate things. Anyway, the good news is I already have both of them.
  5. Thanks for all the great replies here guys. This is really gonna help me out. I also realized that I have Matsuri - Truth About Communication. I picked it up off e-bay several months ago and was so busy that week that I put it on the shelf and haven't had a chance to give it a whirl yet. Now for some music hunting............
  6. I'm looking for Goa compilations that are worth purchasing. In addition to most of the recognized classic Goa albums of the era, I have the following compilations: Tantrance 1 Tantrance 2 Tantrance 4 Tantrance 6 Goa Head 3 Distance To Goa 4 I really enjoy compilations to hear the variety of sounds and music that was produced during the Goa era. Are there any other that are particularly outstanding that I should look for? I also have Distance To Goa 5 and 6, but those don't quite carry the same magic.
  7. Thanks for the replies so far. Some good material to work with here.
  8. ......I can never get the damn search function to work for me. There have been some recent threads on ambient music, but I don't think I'm quite looking for ambient....at least not the relatively beatless, spacey, random-sounds, swirly synth type music. I need more downtempo/chill. I have the following albums: The Infinity Project - Mystical Experiences Ott - Blumenkraft Entheogenic - Dialogue of the Speakers Shpongle Younger Brother - A Flock of Bleeps More recommendations down the same line? Your help is greatly appreciated.
  9. uh......yea. i figured that out after i started purchasing psy/goa based on what sounded good to me versus what the experts say is good or bad. i quit reading reviews and started listening to lots of stuff to define what made me feel happy and stimulated rather than what other people think is great. i found out that i actually like a lot of full-on and psytrance and that there is more to life than old school goa sound and that yea......i really dislike astral projection and a lot of shpongle's stuttery sound. after that happened, my music collecting hobby became really fun because instead of bragging that i had a primo collection of rare albums or music that was considered the best of the best, i now have a collection where i can pull any album and be excited for the music on it.
  10. You might be looking in the wrong subgenre. Goa and psytrance isn't necessarily what I'd call emotional trance. Uplifting, spiritual and mystical qualities are terms I'd attach to some of it, but for sheer emotional feel good trance, look elsewhere.
  11. I wholeheartedly disagree. A DJ is an artist. When a person has the talent to pick the proper progression of tracks and blend them seamlessly together to take people on a musical journey through the trance dance experience, that is an art form. As with many art forms, there are many practitioners but few masters. Most people want instant gratification and formulaic buildups and breakdowns in every track. A skilled DJ crafts a set that works so well that when it's over you are in awe because it's not just one stand out track you remember, but the entire thing from beginning to end.
  12. Thank you and welcome to my respected users list. That post is the voice of reason. It echoes my sentiments exactly. My attachment to psynews has been its use as a resource and a learning tool. It's always a good feeling to be able to come here and feel the spirit of people around the world who enjoy the same kind of music. Thanks to all the knowledge that has been shared here, I have been able to build a small but uber quality collection of psy.
  13. Great news indeed! When I read the news yesterday, I was quite sad. Although I'm not a frequent poster, you guys are about my only link to the psy community and I've come to grow quite fond of some of you. Peace
  14. This track makes me smile and feel full of warm emotion. This is the sound and feeling that got me into trance music in the first place. This is the kind of music that needs to be produced. Be true to your vision and I wish you the best of luck. Keep 'em coming!!!!! EDIT: Wow...after a few more listens, this is some quality stuff!
  15. Renaissance - The Master Series - Hernan Cattaneo - Vol 1

    Khetzal - Corolle

Oh....my...god! The samples of this album at Saikosounds have tripped me out. This sounds like the Goa trance I've always dreamed of finding.....that dreamy, uplifting Eastern influenced sound that wraps around you in layers and carries you away to mystical places. I can't wait to get my hands on this little work of music.
  17. After a year of searching, I finally found this fucker on Ebay. Turns out the seller lives 15 minutes from me and is getting rid of his entire collection of Goa. I was able to pick up this album and Shakta - Silicon Trip for a ridiculously low price. ....anyway, i'm sitting here listening to this album for the first time and it's one of those increasingly rare moments where you just kind of sit there with a goofy grin on your face while the magic of Goa blasts through you. This may be one of the most energetic Goa albums I've ever heard. I'll have to see how it weathers repeated listenings, but this may give Prana - Cyclone a run for one of my best albums of all time.
  18. No, I've never even heard any of the tracks on these albums. I have never downloaded music, so I'm not sure where to go to find it. I don't have a problem with downloading the music, it's just that I'm not the most computer savvy.
  19. I've been on a hiatus for a while from buying psy/Goa. I'm ready to purchase a few more albums, but I'm not sure which direction to go. Here's a list of my small collection. Everything I have is primo to me except for the albums I mark with ***. Maybe that will give you an idea of what direction my tastes lie. Apsara Astral Projection - Amen Astral Projection - Trust In Trance Astral Projection - In the Mix Astral Projection - Ten *** Bluetech - Elementary Particles/Prima Materia California Sunshine - Trance Chakra & Edi Mis - The Promised Land - WOW Chi-A.D. - Anno Domini Chi-A.D. - Infinitism Color Box - Train to Chroma City - WOW Cosmosis - Contact *** Cosmosis - Intergalactic Cosmosis - Synergy Otherworld - Dance, Trance & Magic Plants Demented Dimension 5 - Second Phaze - WOW! Distance to Goa - Volume 4 - WOW! Doof - Let's Turn On Entheogenic - Dialogue of the Speakers Frogacult - Something for Sundays Goa-Head - Volume 3 Filteria - Sky Input Hallucinogen - Twisted Hallucinogen - The Lone Deranger Indoor - Progressive Trance - WOW! Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians Infected Mushroom - The Gathering Infected Mushroom - B.P. Empire Infected Mushroom - Classic Mushroom The Infinity Project - Mystical Experiences Jaia - Blue Energy Juno Reactor - Shango Juno Reactor - Labrynth Juno Reactor - Bible of Dreams Juno Reactor - Beyond the Infinite Kox Box - Dragon Tales Man With No Name - Interstate Highway MFG - New Kind of World Miranda - Phenomena The Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing Oakenfold - Fluoro Oakenfold - A Voyage Into Trance Oforia - Delerious Ott - Blumenkraft Power Source - Cosmic Waves - HOLY SMOKE!!!! Planet B.E.N. - Test *** Pleiadians - I.F.O. Pleiadians - Family of Light Prana - Cyclone - WOW!!! One of the best albums ever produced. Prana - Geomantik Psygone - Optimystique Ra - To Sirius Rinkadink - Rabbit from the Darkside Shpongle - Are You Shpongled - This is pure tripping magic Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible Space Cat - Shapes of Sound - this album is different but I really dig it Tandu - Multimoods Transwave - Helium Transwave - Phototropic Tantrance 1 - Tantrance 2 - Awesome! Tantrance 4 Tantrance 6 - Incredible! Younger Brother - A Flock of Bleeps Ypsilon 5 - Binary Sky X-Dream - We Created Our Own Happiness - This album has to be some of the most intelligent trance I've ever heard. Obviously I'm dying to get my hands on GNOR - Rock Bitch Mafia and Dimension 5 - Transdimensional, but after a year of searching I've about given up hope. I'm not that interested in any more Astral Projection. They are one of the few artists with albums that I can't get through in one sitting. As stand alone tracks they work marvelously in a compilation, but otherwise they all sound exactly the same to me. Based on what I have here, do you guys have some recommendations? I'm also open to what might be considered *great* full-on and/or progressive, but I don't like minimal psy. I'm more about complex layers and epic melodies. I'm particularly fond of the older school sound that is more raw and organic than the sleeker, tighter and more artificial sound of some of the "new" Goa.
  20. Whoaaaaaaaaaaa......I live in Vancouver and didn't know this. SWEET!
  21. You're right...my bad. It's all good. I have kind of a short fuse, and a lot of times on these boards I'll write something and then decide better against posting it. It's always pissed me off when people hijack topics with their little side interests, so as soon as I posted it I realized it really had nothing to do with the topic of Tiesto trance, and I decided to "straighten" it up. LOL
  22. Before anyone here has any authority to speak about Tiesto, you need to give an honest listen to all of his compilations and albums first. For what it's worth, some of the worst trance I've ever heard is psytrance. A lot of psytrancers seem to have this elitist technophile attitude about how great Goa/psy is and how crappy anything else is. Music is what it is; nothing more & nothing less. Goa trance as a genre is one of the most amazing types off music there are, but for sheer feel-good-euphoria-mind-trip music some of Tiesto and artists of his kind can't be beat. Tiesto's compilations Magik 1 and Magik 2 could very well be some of the best trance I've ever heard in my life. You'd be pretty hard pressed to call it pop trance. If anything, I'd call it dream trance, but it's some powerful stuff. For something that's a bit more 'mainstream', if you will, there is Magik 6. IMO Magik 6 is probably the best trance compilation of all times, bar none. For a more chilled trance, the same could be said for his In Search of Sunrise 3: Panama. Sadly, his later stuff is kind of crappy, but then again most trance produced these days doesn't suit my ears very well.
  23. Goa, but not for dancing.
  24. It depends who writes the review. I have identified a handful of people here whose tastes seem to sort of mirror my own. Their recommendations have never let me down, and I put a lot of confidence in their music reviews. However, that doesn't mean they have superior tastes, it just means that if they liked it or saw merit in it, I generally do too.
