How to write a goa / ambient review

Hello!

Some time has passed since I last opened a topic. But there's something that would be nice to get some information about - the reviews.

 

I really like reading them and I also like to write them. Before I post them here, I'd like to know what are some of the tips you (the experienced reviewers ) would give to someone relatively new to this "profession". Maybe what should one stay away from? What do you focus on: production, mastering, impression,...?

 

Personally, I like to write how the music made me feel. And this is also the main reason I listen to music, it makes a strong impression on me and I like to share that with others (and at the same time tell what I like and what I don't in a song).

There are no hard and fast rules. Different people like different things in a review.

Make sure what you write is relevant and try to use proper grammar.

Stick with what you know, if you don't have any idea about production techniques and technical musical terms then steer clear of them. If you are knowledgeable in technical areas don't go overboard describing everything so technically as not everyone else is.

Your impressions and how the music makes you feel is pretty good usually mixed in with some layman descriptions of what the music sounds like.

 

Most importantly write for yourself fist & foremost and don't worry too much about what other people think of your reviews, that way it will be more fun for you to write and you'll end up with better reviews

Just do it, that's what I do. Also it never hurts to put icing on the cake. I like to colour my reviews for example - makes the review more interesting imo.
