ariScotle Posted August 31, 2009 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Ok, So I have poked around a lot trying to learn as much as I can about Techno and thanks to many of you, I have discovered a ton of great music I have been really enjoying my Techno experience thus far. As a general Psy-head, its refreshing to occasionally dive into other genres. I have gotten a lot of recommendations for old school techno ala Jeff Mills, Joey Beltram, Speedy J, Surgeon, X-101, System 01, Holy Ghost, Sven Vath and some others. and I have also gotten a ton of new school/modern minimal recommendations like Paul Kalkbrenner, Minilogue, Robert Babicz, Stimming, Evan Marc, Ricardo Villalobos, Trentemoller etc. But my question is.... IS THERE ANY BANGING "MAXIMAL" TECHNO FROM THE MODERN ERA? Is it all minimal/tame/chilled/ambient? I'm looking for recommendations of new/modern era Techno that is aggressive and maximal, as opposed to relaxed and minimal. Any ideas? All info and recommendations are appreciated. Cheers everyone. Cheers everyone. i am not sure what you mean according to "MAXIMAL", but if you look for bangin' stuff you might like to check out christian wünsch, reeko, phase, oscar mulero, go hiyama, grovskopa, elektrabel, mike dehnert and the likes. still this is "kind of" minimal-techno in the surgeon/regis downwards style. or check out my favourites, the 65D mavericks. dunno if that is what you are looking for, to be honest. Minimalism tries to have less going on, and especially with so much of the modern stuff I have heard, not only has less going on but is also more tame and laid back, almost ambient/downtempo stuff. So yes, banging/hard/aggressive/in your face kind of techno from newer artists is what I'm looking for. Thanks for all the recommendations - I will dig a little and see what I like. (i think dj rush ^ is a good example. others are adam bayer, chris liebing, ...) it's still rather monotonous, but fast/hard with more going on. it was quite popular a few years ago before minimal, electro and hardstyle became big. If you liked the above youtube link, then you dig the more off-beat techno sound. Artists which drop music in the similar vein are Oscar Mulero (he's often associated with Surgeon, an influence is obvious), the more progressive side of Cristian Vogel, and especially the 'drop dead revive yourself with a defillibrator and then drop dead again' British Murder Boys project. Check out James Ruskin's last year's "The dash" album, I found it really mature despite not being the typical 4/4. Other then that, a really fast & furious, maximal techno label of today which I find relatively interesting and a tad above the rest is ARMS ( http://www.discogs.com/label/ARMS ). Far from that all of their stuff is good, but some of it is awesome party material. I'll let you know if I get some more interesting ideas with time. He produce classic hard/baging techno, which is so typical for slovak techno scene.
