  1. Artist: M-Run Title: Some Run Just For Fun Label: Cronomi Records Date: October, 2012 1. Return To Yourself 2. Ethereal Resonator 3. Cognitive Disorder 4. Custodian 5. Galactic Hunt Part II 6. Abduction Phenomena 7. Alien Brain Train 8. Twin Sister Some run just for fun. Whatever. Those people are crazy. Even in my twenties when I was a sprinter it wasn't cause it was fun. It was because I wanted to beat you. Because I wanted you to think you had a shot at beating me only to watch your face fall when I kicked in that extra gear. Or because in my thirties I wanted to make the crowd do a double take because there was no way that I should've been able to reach that long frisbee throw. Dickish I know. I don't have to be the fastest Robin. Just faster than you. But for fun? Nope. Don't get it. You know who gets it? Cronomi. This label while not as prolific as Suntrip has released some absolute crackers in the genre. The Portal by Portamento and the Erta Ale compilation were outstanding. So here they go again with a limited release by M-Run ( Mario Matakovich) who only released two tracks (Goat Man and Kapala) and that was on Erta Ale. Obviously from the less is more school, he understands you give the public a taste so that they will keep coming back for more. Got news for you. You make music like this I will be at your doorstep. Return To Yourself- "These are the victims of psychotic behavior." That kick makes me want to hit the heavy bag. Not you ma'am. Ok, you. It's got some funky disco swagger that is infectious. What I really like is that the melodies are not the usual twisting spirals, but something wholly original. Take the chopped up bit...genius. There are plenty of twists to keep things fresher than cucumbers in my crisper. Even the cuckoo sample brings the tribal funk. How the f*ck did you work that in there? Outstanding. And that was just a taste. Ethereal Resonator- Now you may be asking yourself how do you follow that up and the answer is with more funky rhythms and ripping leads. Attitude heavy goa trance with continued evolution that never seems to break stride. It's like the master of disguise up in here. Funky, melodic, and not afraid to challenge you in the slightest. Cognitive Disorder- Crazy motherf*cker. Has he even broken 140 bpm's yet? More funkadelia rolls over you in waves and I'm sitting here with my mouth wide open. The sample is annoying, but only because it's so long otherwise it worked for me. Do you think he knew because he came out of it swinging like a black chick after you called her a bitch. "Holy sh*t, white people hide! The hulk is loose!" Custodian- It's outer space goa with a bouncy vibe and a wicked lead melody. Face meet huge sh*t eating grin. Edgy sounds with layers that seem too good to be true and I'm only 4 minutes in! Oh...can I get a little soul clap? This is another awesome piece of music that throws multiple punch combinations. Over here being a custodian, while honest hard work, isn't the most glamorous mode d'emploi. But if it were like this... Galactic Hunt Part II- Where was the first part? This is 9 and a half minutes of pure madness. The middle is the calmest portion of this CD and I guess the break, but it still doesn't stop. He lets it run to allow you to get caught up. When he finally gets to the break it's alien and liquid at the same time. Part Syb Unity Nettwerk and part Merr0w. Abduction Phenomena- 1o minutes. 10 minutes of joy. He lays down a rhythm and syncs the bass with rapid fire melodies and eerie effects. It has some old school feel as well as some slight nitzho appeal. There are just so many changes that it's impossible to get bored with this. Alien Brain Train- Love the way he offers numerous melodic "snippets" in layers with this one. There is a lot going on and it's full of motion. Maybe this is what it's like running through space like that guy in the funny underpants on the cover. The undercurrent of...unease is palpable and at the same time it's very twirl friendly. What a journey! Yeah that happened when I hit play... Twin Sister- With an industrial opening and some more heavy percussive bass it doesn't even feel like goa trance until he slides those melodies in you like a suede condom. Alien vocalizations and cauldrons a bubbling make me hug the blanket a little tighter and the little melody at 4 minutes brings it all together. Power, atmosphere...this is music to soothe the savage beast. Wait...soothing is not the right word. Poking with a sharp stick, yeah that's it. "Hey! Hey Frosted Flakes! Quit making fun of the Asians! Hate that tiger." I wanna have sex with this CD. Straight up sweaty monkey love with all the dirty talk. Is that wrong? Do I now have to register as a sex offender. Worth it. (Psssttt...no it's not.) For me this is so mind blowingly different than anything else out there. Huge beats remind you that it's cool to dance and melodies that just don't scramble up and down the scale. It can be rough like Sky Input and it's always in your face. He takes goa to a place it hasn't gone exploring all the dirty areas goa trance producers are won't to travel. I recently reviewed the stellar Mindsphere Patience For Heaven calling it one of the best new school releases ever. I stand by that. Good thing there is always room for great music at the top. This is right up there but for different reasons. Where PFH was lush and beautiful storytelling on a grand scale this is the most psychedelic goa trance experience I have ever had. Highly evolving originality throughout the whole album. The tracks are long and chock full of everything you could want in goa trance. M-Run, Mindsphere, E-Mantra, Artifact303, Portamento, Crossing Mind, Artha, Afgin, Sky Technology, Somnesia, Space Elves...it's good to like goa trance these days. Cronomi Web Shop Mdk
  2. Artist: Brainwash Title: Brainwash & Friends Label: Fractal Records Date: October, 2012 1. Acidbrain - Feelings 2. Brainwash feat. Magneto - I Have a Voice 3. Brainwash feat Zinx - Brainscan 4. Brainwash feat Sinful Reactions - Destroy It 5. Brainwash feat. Khopat - Version 3 6. Brainwash feat Alienn - Second Level of Storm 7. Brainwash feat Brain Hunters - Massive Army 8. Brainwash feat Freeze - Alive "What's so funny, c'mon lemme look at it." Nothing good ever came after this sentence was spoken. Case in point whatever this headache is. Buildups, buildups, and more buildups. Oh the buildups. But wait...there's more! Stops and starts and so many repeated phrases. I know we loop sh*t in this genre, but give me f*cking break. This is sonic regurgitation with samples galore. It plays at twilight music, but this trojan horse is fooling no one. It's commercial full-on tripping all over itself to reveal its inane nature. Have you no shame? There are some good acid deluges, but they're shoehorned in between all the other terrible bullsh*t. The cast of characters is impressive as they have each made much, much better music than this. It's just full steam ahead without any attention to detail. Wonder what they have in common. If I could just put my finger on it... And I don't know what the f*ck Fractal Records was thinking. Oh well, one step forward, two steps back. Don't get Brainwashed. I'm not linking to this. Support your own bad habits. Mdk
  3. Artist: Koan Title: Argonautica Label: Section Records Date: October, 2012 1. Orpheus and Eurydice 2. Lost Lyre 3. Peleus and Thetis 4. Irida falls to Morpheus' pits 5. Crying Prozerpine (Blue mix) 6. Pegasus 7. In the garden of the Hesperides (Golden apples mix) 8. Seven mirrors of Atlas 9. Ladon (Serpent mix) Holy crap this sh*ts rainbows. I was gonna say it was hopeful in feeling but we're way past that. Like Yanni meets OMD type stuff. It is tremendously grand and beautiful no question, but my refrigerator is more psychedelic. Were you trying to impress a girl? Cause I would totally put this on if I was trying to get some. Once I got the green light then the Ginuwine comes out. "If your horny, Let's do it, Ride it, My Pony" You can't hump to this, but you can certainly lay the groundwork. Floating pads, heavenly strings and melodies so sweet you'll get diabetes. It's sparkling electronica that manufactures smiles and is superbly well done. There are layers upon layers of delicious ear candy. I just didn't see it coming from this Russian duo. I think it's less downtempo and more new age, although I don't think the new age guys could make something this good. Beautiful music that you should listen to if you're looking to be in a good mood. 4. Artist: Ritmo & Egorythmia Title: Spin It Remixes EP Label: Iono Music Date: October, 2012 1. Spin It 2. Spin It (Gaudium Remix) 3. Spin It (Lish Remix) Thank you. Thank you gentlemen for including the original track on this brief Ep of remixes. Also thank you for keeping it brief. Nothing makes me want to punch babies more than an entire album of remixes of 1 track. But back to the first point it's such a pain in the ass trying to find the original track when comparing remixes. Starbucks might have a f*ckload of flavors, but I'm pretty sure they still stock regular coffee. Sure, those elitist pricks probably charge you twice the price for it. Go to Dunkin Donuts, my Dad swears by their coffee. 7-11 surprisingly is no longer just a place for week old hot dogs that may or may not have fallen on the floor repeatedly as they have good coffee also. So the original was pretty good progressive trance in the Iono mold of huge melodies and a thorough reverb soaking. The Gaudium remix has a refreshing big beat during the break, but is otherwise unremarkable. Good, but nothing to write home about. The Lish remix feels fuller so I guess he out-Ionoe'd the rest. This is what it feels like when I explain the definition of remix. Hello? Hello, is this thing on? You're hearing me, but you're not listening. They are good tracks to be sure, but in my opinion it fails as a remix ep for the same reason most of the remix ep's do. It's the same f*cking track. Grow some nuts and think outside the box. If I wanted 3 almost identical tracks I'm pretty sure my music player has a repeat function. Beatport Mdk
  5. Artist: Various Title: Avalon - The Remixes Volume One Label: Nano Records Date: October, 2012 1. Final Transmission (Zen Mechanics rmx) 2. Funky Voodoo (Captain Hook rmx) 3. Stinkin Warehouse (Loud rmx) 4. Aggressive Progressive (Burn In Noise rmx) 5. Destiny Awaits (Cosmosis rmx) 6. Teleporter (Laughing Buddha rmx) 7. Out There (Tristan rmx) 8. Swamp Funk (Master Blasters rmx) 9. Distant Futures (Dickster rmx) 10. Into The New World (Sonic Species rmx) "Insanity is wasting your life as a nothing. Insanity is being sh*t on...beat down. Coasting through life on a miserable existence when you have a caged lion locked inside and the key to release it." This is Leon Kane from the land of soccer hooligans and tasteless food and he was kind enough to let a bunch of full-on producers have his way with his tracks like Michael Jackson did with Corey Feldman. It's ok kid. It's not your fault. But the sooner you come clean the sooner you can put away the zipper jackets and stop moonwalking. It's over, he's gone. He can't hurt you anymore. The results are predictable. Most of the tracks originate from Leon's terrific debut album Distant Futures. Normally I hate remix albums because I have to round up all the original tracks and see if they actually did a remix. Which inevitably leads to way more f word than my wife is comfortable with these days. But not this time. Nope, from now on I'll treat it as just another compilation. So if a track blows it just blows. Own it. Let's start with the bad. The Captain Hook remix is annoyingly terrible. Loud takes a track from the great Tales of Heads compilation and deconstructs it, turning it into a disjointed and unfocused mess. The Cosmosis remix uses a great sample and does nothing with it relegating this track to autopilot. Destination...generic full-on town. While you're there say hello to Chromatone for me. Whew, what happened there? And your ears do not deceive you, that was a Matrix sample on the Sonic Species remix. Was it in the original? I don't know I told you I wasn't going back. He left it in there so now he owns it. Look I love that movie too, but how long are we gonna beat that horse? But lo, there were beacons of hope. Lucas does what Lucas does and delivers a layered and flashy gurgler a la God Save The Machine. The Burn In Noise remix shines bright in the goa sun. A definite scorcher. The Tristan and Laughing Buddha remixes were solid full-on stuff that didn't flatten the house, but some windows were smashed and the dog bowl was knocked over. I liked the debut album from Avalon as I previously mentioned. It was complex and ever evolving. The Nano Records feel is with this. The power, the sounds, and the mechanical mayhem at a rapid pace. But for the most part it falls short and is just a collection of slightly better than mediocre full-on remixes. One thing I wanted to mention because it confused me. You could by the CD from Psyshop and get 10 tracks or you could buy the digital download from Nano cheaper and get 13 tracks. On what planet does that make sense? Shouldn't you reward someone who actually purchases the CD? Now maybe it's one of those things where you get a key to the extra tracks once you get the CD, I dunno. But I haven't been able to confirm that. Still the way that album went, you might wanna tell them to keep the extra three tracks. Psyshop Beatspace Mdk
  6. Artist: Tron Sepia Title: Weird Fishes & Other Stories Label: Fish N Trips Records Date: October, 2012 1 - Flange (70 BPM) 2 - Factory (70 BPM) 3 - Cuttlefish (65 BPM) 4 - Abyss (70 BPM) 5 - Factory (Video Edit) (70 BPM) 6 - Abyss (VIP) (70 BPM) O Canada...our home and native land. My neighbors to the north have produced quite the varied album here. Downtempo grooves and dubstep rhythms go hand in hand with the smooth female vocals and melodic pads. Delicious slow motion electronic stretching as if I were Neo dodging bullets from the agents. Those bass drops hum and oscillate as eerie piano melodies drift ethereally out of reach. Mechanical and spiritual all at once this is electronic tai chi. This is the music I want to listen to when I finally get to hike the high peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Highly recommended Free at Ektoplazm Mdk
  7. Artist: Various Title: The Persistence of Memory Label: Blue Hour Sounds Date: October, 2012 1. Theory Of Big Bang - ONCE UPON A TIME PLAY 2. Post 100 (Ianuaria rmx) - HUX FLUX 3. Crystallised - GAIANA 4. Hypnotic Quality - GIDO AND AVARA 5. Jack The Tripper - AJJA VS FLOOTING GROOVES 6. Outbound - ANTISPIN 7. Hippy Hoop - MARK DAY 8. Motoremoto - PEYO 9. Movements - JARAMOGI AND NAIMA 10. Expecto Patronum - FLOOTING GROOVES When you say Blue Hour Sounds to me I think of two things. The multi-colored EP's and the exceptional Ianuaria Beware of the Fish album. This Italian label specializes in very detailed stuff with the psychedelic factor turned up to 11. So to see them with a new release I think it's fair to say that my expectations were pretty high. Mastered by Braincell (a guy who knows a thing or two about great psytrance) this album is one of storytelling, but without lots of twists and turns. Hypnotic and hallucinogenic, they supply pumping rhythms as the backbone and allow melodies to slither in amidst healthy effects and delay. For the most part it's pretty psychedelic, but I felt it could've benefited from a bit more detail as there were some thin stretches in the tracks. Sometimes it seemed as if it lacked power or wasn't very dynamic. When you set the bar high it's difficult to maintain that level of quality. That said, there are portions where this is extraordinarily deep and involving. Don't know how that last track made the cut though as it didn't fit with the theme of the album. So it's a good comp if not a little disappointing. Not great, but good. GoaStore Beatspace Psyshop Mdk
  8. Artist: Deedrah Title: Out of Control Label: Hom-Mega Productions Date: October, 2012 1. Step by Step 2. Pendulum 3. Out of Control 4. Cycles of Life 2012 5. Purple Unicorn (Hard Mix) 6. Over Bloody Flood (Old School Mix) 7. Soul Motherf*ckers 8. Motel Lover 9. Ananda (Morning Mix) 10. Half of Me (Mickey Noise Remix) 11. Gayatri (Deedrah Remix) 12. Over Bloody Flood (Tech Mix) 13. Half of Me I don't know about you, but there are certain labels I avoid. It comes with experience and getting burned a couple of times. Hom-Mega is one of them. They are notorious for putting out the creme de la creme of crap. Uninspired, lazy, unimaginative drivel. But people keep buying this stuff so on they go. I knew this was going to blow, but that little goa head inside of me said that he would probably would do justice to a couple of goa classics. After all Dado was himself a goa artist (part of Transwave) at one time so surely he would be understanding when it came to remixing tracks of this stature. Right? Step By Step- This was an awesome progressive track. Really thumping with an extra helping of sexy shake. Remember this because Pendulum- "I want everyone on the floor...NOW!" Out of Control- Now that is some wicked bass. Funky as hell and totally out of control. And that's just the half of it. The middle of the track slows to a semi reggae crawl halfway to dubstep before returning to its funky ways. Gott in Himmel I liked it. But you just couldn't resist the cliched snare roll, could you? Cycles of Life 2012- You sonofab*tch... I bid you good day sir. Purple Unicorn (Hard Mix)- Ok let's just forget that last track ever happened. I'm a forgiving guy. See, you've recovered. The bass is punchy and yes...I see you brought your epic house pianos...good for you. Oh and that's a nice build up. Well they can't all be smash hits can they? Over Bloody Flood (Old School Mix)- There is nothing old school about this mix. Unless you equate it to a lifetime of detention. Excruciating. I haven't heard sh*t this bad since the MFG Remix of that Rhianna track going around on Facebook. Really dude, that's two classic tracks that you've managed to sully like a stopped up toilet. What happened to you? Soul Motherf*ckers- Holy sh*t was that a Madonna sample? Motel Lovers- This was pretty good full-on. If it was 2002. Ananda (Morning Mix)- The lead sounded pretty good with some progressive backing and the ending was a gentle touch, but all I'm thinking of is I have 4 tracks left to go. Half of Me (Mickey Noise Remix)- More generic full-on with some awful vocal tacets. Good God and you had help with this one? How bad must the original must've been? Be patient, you'll get to find out soon enough. Gayatri (Deedrah Remix)- The original was on the Stars on 35 EP by Astrix so I guess this is Dado's take. You know I don't really give a f*ck anymore. I would've shut this down long ago, but what if there is a track that really restores our faith in.... what? Yeah I know. Over Bloody Flood (Tech Mix)- He's already cornholed this track once. Two times and you have to register as a sex offender. Half of Me- If you order this you might as well go punch Blue Planet Corporation in the nuts if they haven't already rolled over in their grave. Ishq - Bloom

Artist: Ishq Title: Bloom Label: Virtual Date: October, 2012 1. Blue Wave 2. Evergreen 3. Iao 4. Ancient Lands 5. Opal Aqua 6. Bioluminessence 7. Clover 8. Amaryllis Dreams 9. Summerland Beatless Ambient is an acquired taste. You have to hold the listener's attention in other ways when you treat the kick drum as if it were a pedophile otherwise you stray into drone territory. And that is a whole nother level of catatonia. Ishq is Matt Hillier and this is one of his numerous albums. Very prolific he is. This one is kind of like a compilation of some of the tracks he made from 2001 to 2012. Are they unreleased? I dunno, it's not like I would remember if they were. The title is perfect as it moves slowly (sometimes excruciatingly) like the opening of a spring flower. It is extremely relaxing with slow attack rates and long pads amidst the sounds of nature. Stop me if you've heard him do that before. As someone who is go go all the time this forces me to slow down and let it unfold at it's own pace. Iao is 15 minutes of said beatless ambient that had me contemplating the universe as well as hurry the f*ck up I gotta make dinner for my kids. So I'm of two minds with this release. Obviously it can be super relaxing as he keeps to the theme with slow moving textures and makes you feel at one with the planet. On the other hand do you know how much I can get done in 15 minutes? I often found myself trying to get behind the track and push it along. Maybe I cannot relax or get that deep into meditation to delve into a track that takes forever to get where it's going. Then there are a few tracks of very short length that are just a pad with a slow attack and a long delay. That's not a song...that's a note. I suppose if you've finished your honey do list and needed something to help you to sleep, this would work. Mdk
  10. Artist: Mindwave Title: Enlightenment EP Label: Iono Music Date: October, 2012 1. Enlightenment 2. Surreal 3. Somnium The geniuses at Iono very rarely stumble so it was with pleasure that I picked this up. Mindwave is Israeli Anton Maiko who has released 3 albums. Haven't heard a one, but that's going to change. Enlightenment is a smooth progressive rumbler with an ethereal vocal touch and long, distant melodies. Surreal doesn't present anything flashy, just a quality dream experience that is very relaxing. Somnium borrows that same vocal from the opening track and adds a nice break producing more mellow vibes. While not as melodic and deep as some of their releases, this one shouldn't disappoint progressive heads looking for a little downtime without dropping the bpm's below 130. Give it a try. Beatport Mdk
  11. Artist: Space Tribe & Mad Maxx Title: Mind Is God EP Label: Space Tribe Music Date: October, 2012 1. Mind Is God 2. Mysteries of the World "Perception is the key to transformation. The mind is GOD!" Olli Wisdom has been around since the before some of you were born so like Boris Blenn he has earned respect and street cred. Personally I didn't care for his early work and have only started appreciating his music since Time S-T-R-E-T-C-H. He makes great acidic twilight music like Boris does. Or, did. Those two seemed joined at the hip because their collaboration with the ESP project has been quite solid. Olli's latest album of new stuff Peak Experience was enjoyable and seems to have maintained his ability to lay down some stormers. This two track EP is another gem if you are into that type of music. It's hard hitting with loads of acid for the connoisseur. He maintains the feeling of spiritual other worldliness with the samples that enhance the track but don't dominate it. Seems like his collaboration with fellow monkey poo flinger Mad Maxx has paid off. Boris better pick up his game or Olli might replace him. Beatport Mdk
  12. Artist: Tryon Title: The Source EP Label: Kaos Krew Records Date: October, 2012 1. Noise Freak - Tryon Vs. Digital Talk 2. The Void - Tryon Vs. Mindcore 3. The Flame "Keep on doing what you've always done. Keep on being what you've always been." Oh yeah...now we're talking. Telmo gets it. Take a thumping beat, drench in acid and repeat. Why is this so hard for some? He's not here to weave a complex tale dissecting the intricacies of our existence. His goal is to make you get up and dance with a sledgehammer combination of lasers and acid. His style drives in the fast lane where your grandma insists on staying with the right blinker on. If you're in his way well, you've got another grandma right? "Oh thank you young man. I-I-I don't know who he was, but he was one of those foreign fellas. Probably in the Taliban. Did you know they make their women wear potato sacks? I don't. Both died of cancer, but let's be honest it would be much cooler to go with smoking acid marks on your back. His collaboration with Digital Talk is my favorite as it is unrelenting and super rhythmic. He's got this ability to use a sample that is clear, but sounds far away. Adds to the mayhem for me. If you're a fan of the high tech acid heavy style consider this recommended. Beatport Mdk
  13. Artist: Various Title: Sonic Alchemy Chapter II Label: Sonic Motion Records Date: October, 2012 1. Technology - Outer Signal 2. Impulses Reimagined - Deeper In Zen 3. Eureka - Yurika Sonic Motion Records is back at it again with the 2nd chapter of...ah, you can read. The name sounded familiar so I went back and "re-discovered" that I had actually reviewed the 1st chapter here. And after reading what I had written I'm still uncertain whether I liked it or not. Well I must not have liked it enough to keep it cause I no longer have it. Compiled by Atyss again (whose latest release Luxe In Nocte also befuddled me) he offers 3 tracks in the same night full-on style. Outer Signal makes a track that reminds me of California Sunshine with guitar in a prominent role, but I listened to it anyway. I came away with a definite feeling. Hardware that is effective and delicious? Yes please. Impulses Reimagined- I've always liked Mr. Brian's music, but his persistent thumping and warbling on this track left me indifferent. Nothing really to discover, just temple pounding. Eureka- Hey look, the track name sounds like the artist, but it's spelled differently. That's called a heterograph. Like their and they're. You and ewe. How many can you name? I'm serious because that holds my interest better than this track. Sonic Motion I'm disappointed. This was fairly benign without any of your usual characteristic bombast. Maybe you should stop with the EP's and just focus on compilation work. I don't know the answer, oh wait yes I do. Get better tracks. Beatport Mdk
  14. Artist: Electric Universe Title: Psystep EP Label: Electric Universe Records Date: October, 2012 1. Psystep 2. Under The Surface "Lying just beneath the surface of the everyday, is a world we hardly recognize." Boris Blenn is one of the greatest names in out genre. Jupiter 8000, Paradise Connection, Galaxy, Rainbow Spirit...all him. If there was ever a godfather, he could be it. Like a lot of masters that started out in the goa genre he has long since left that arena and now is firmly mired in the full-on swamp. That's not to say all he has released is pablum and forgettable. Remember Cosmic Experience? Superb stuff. His pairing with fellow old schooler Space Tribe as EsP has yielded quality results. But in a business that is what have you done for me lately his last effort Higher Modes was an impotent mess that had me wondering if aliens actually abducted the real Boris and replaced him with cucumber suffering from Down's Syndrome. I mean really you have to work hard to make music that bad. So while I was doing a little EP shopping I came across this and dove in. He's earned that type of blind buy status from me and really, what are the odds that he would sh*t the bed again? Not one to miss the latest trend he hops right on the step wagon (dub, psy, whatever) and that's how Psystep opens. But like all he does, it's grander and I think sounds pretty good. It's not long before he moves headlong into what he does best and that's create acidic mayhem. Pretty good mix of the two styles me thinks. Under the Surface is pure EU power with acid storms and a bruising straight ahead demeanor. He's got a slightly annoying buildup, but it's mainly back to where he excels. So I think this EP is validation that my theory on alien abduction is valid. While this still isn't Cosmic Universe, it's light years away from Lower Modes. Not essential, but it is good to know that he hasn't completely lost his ability to create upbeat music. Beatport Mdk
  15. Artist: Sylica-X Title: Research EP Label: ACP Records Date: October, 2012 1. Re-Search 2. Hypoxis Talking sh*t is an art form. There are plenty of people who talk a good game but don't or won't back it up. Take this heifer for example. If we ignore the fact that she could be distracted by a box of twinkies I'd still be willing to bet that you could unwrap that gun and it would be made of chocolate. Bang bang. You've got diabetes. I'm not sure if this artist is Filipe Santos (can you blame me, he seems to have a new project monthly), but even if it isn't him, it's being put out on his label. He has been releasing quality original goa trance for what seems like a decade and a lot of that for free. He charges for some of it, but you know what...he's earned it. I have never listened to his music and said this sucks. Never happened. I won't go into all his aliases (go to Discogs), but his projects are different than a lot of the goa around today. He consistently tells artists to take risks and not follow the same mold. And he backs it up. But mistake his originality for poor quality at your own peril. He has an old school sound that few can duplicate. Re-Search swings the 303 like Thor's hammer and settles into a good groove instead of coming out with guns blazing. Instead of force feeding you melodies he introduces them until you attain a comfort level and then it's on to the next one. Now don't get me wrong(ly). I love melodies and stacks of them. But when you get a Filipe Santos production it's always something to look forward to. So if he talks a little smack about doing something different it's ok to listen to him. He knows what he's talking about. And he doesn't need a chocolate gun to back it up. ACP Records Mdk
