  1. hi here u have shown illustrations of different rhythms for basslines.. u have not mentioned anything about intervals or the notes to use.. for example k k k k c5e5g5 c5c6g5 - - - - - - or k k k k c5 g5 c5 g5 any idea about this?? what notes sound good..also what scale and what key.. also how do u use sliding notes in a bassline..? thanks...
  2. i guess this is it... i think u will find alot of stuff at forums.. look at some older posts... try using search.. try posting some of your questions.. there is alot of stuff about synthesis on the net.. try google..
  3. hi... using your comp keyboard is not so great.. u have to familiarize your self with the keys.. the layout is not like a musical keyboard.. if u wanna use it anyway then u could try pressing the record button and play so your notes are sequenced on the piano roll while you play.. but you would need to play in time or otherwise re arrange the notes a second time accordingly.. there is another way that i find much easier.. its called step editing in fruity loops.. ( i think its cltr + E ) there is a little icon of a foot somewhere on the top toolbar next to the play, stop buttons (transport panel).. if you activate it then you can play one note at a time..each note you play will be added to the piano roll..then it waits for the next note to be played.. try it out.. you'll understand better.. anyway hope that helps.. bye ps: this is from the help file... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AUTOMATION & RECORDING Step Editing Step editing is a technique to record melodies note by note using your MIDI keyboard (or computer keyboard if Typing Keyboard to Piano is enabled). To start the step editing mode, first enable it from the Recording panel or the Options menu. In the Step Sequencer, select the channel you want to step edit. Now each time you press a key on the MIDI keyboard a new note is added in the Piano Roll (you don't need the Piano Roll window opened to step edit) and the position advances to the next step automatically. The step size is equal to the snap size in the Recording panel. You can use the Num. pad / key on your keyboard to go back to the previous step position. Adding note in an already filled position erases the old step. The Num. pad * shortcut sends the marker to the next step position. This way you can leave empty spaces between the steps. You can also create steps longer than the current snap setting. While holding a MIDI key on your keyboard, press the advance position shortcut ( Num. pad *) one or more times then release the MIDI key.
  4. i recently heard a cat patch on the korg legacy cell vst synth... it sounded really cool... very realistic samples are a good idea..but if u really have the inclination or time then u can defenately create your own dolphin sounds just try and figure out what is happening in a dolphin sound.. like a note with some pitch bend or some envelopes but if you're in a hurry then just use samples...
  5. any day making my own sounds... even when i hear samples i wonder how to make them.. using samples is very limited..creating your own sounds is like being the source itself..its limitless..with infinite possibilities... i like to use samples only of real sounds like nature sounds or street sounds or things like that or samples of dialogues from movies.. learning about and using synthesis is so much more interesting and rewarding...
  6. hi.. can someone pls tell me a little about using pulse width and also detune on a bassline.. i find that when i use detune the bassline gets much more depth but it dosent remain constant..it keeps changing like a phaser or flanger.. how can i gain more control over these parameters... what is the right way to use these ?? thanks..
  7. its the journy not the destination that counts in the end...
  8. hi.. its real funny the way u explain it cause i feel exactly the same way many times... sometimes i get fed up, no new ideas and feel un inspired... everything i try to do sounds crap... like i just dont have the energy to sit and make something... i'd rather watch tv or something... many times i dream stuff, like some great melody or some sort of arrangement but when it comes to putting it down in a sequencer, it just dosent happen... its like those ideas dont translate very easily to the actual sequencing... what i do to get some creativity flowing is to just work on some other style of music... for example - i listen to alot of classsical music,so i try to make an instrumental piece using general midi.. here i am just making this stuff for fun and can be easy on myself about it.. trying new ideas, not trying to sound like anyone else... or try making something using a different time signature than u usually use.. or i spend some time on figuring out a new vst or something like that..during this process u may be struck by some new idea for a new sound or something... soon i find that my mood has changed and i am able to begin working again.. hope this helps... bye
  9. hi.. ya thats a good explanation... so each time u wanna use a phaser accurately u gotta make these calculations?? i suppose these values are caliberated at preset amounts on a phaser... for example : 1/16th Hz = 0.0625 Hz 0.0625 is not a complete cycle... so it means that in 0ne second 0.0625 of th full cycle completes and there would be 16 such parts over the whole sine wave cycle.. also the fruity phaser seems to be caliberated a few 0.0 something hz away from 0.0625 hz for one cycle over 16 seconds(32 beats) at 120 bpm... its 0.063275... are there some good vst phasers to download ? so using the same system i can have 4 cycles or 8 or 16 cycles over 32 beats ie: 4/16 hz or 8/16 hz... at 120 bpm.. also i suppose that the same methord is used for flangers as well.. thanks..
  10. hi... is there some sort of a technique to create counter melodies or is it just done by ear?? for example- overlapping notes of two different melodies create chords that are dissonant or dont sound pleasing... even though the timbre of each instrument is very different... thanks..
  11. hi.. does anyone have any tips on using phasers while making psy trance? can phasers and filter sweeps be used at the same time?/ what vst phasers can i get for free that are accurate...?that give more control on depth,sweep.... i am currently using fruity phaser...it is not very clear to me how to be accurate using this... what i mean is that if i want the phasor to move up and then down for exactly 8 bars and then repeat it each time the same way... the knobs are caliberater in hertz... what does this mean??? they are not even rounded off...as in 0.238403hz and frequencies like that...they are not rounded off like 2 hz 4hz...... how does frequency correspond to number of bars... like a delay unit that has two steps or 3 steps or 8 steps.... also.. apart from creative reasons...is it better to use phasers as inserts of sends?? thanks
  12. i recently read about melodies, counterpoint, counter melodies.... i was just wondering if psy trance uses counter melodies and canons and stuff like that for example- two individual trance leads playing simeltanouesly thanks
  13. i find it real hard to come back and find what key or scale i was using... so i try to remember to type it out in one of the playlist track title when i start to make the track...
  14. hi... i noticed that a lot of artists like digital talk ,parasense.... pan their sounds and leads really well... they get alot of depth to their mix... almost 3d... any tips on panning, using pan lfo... how do u utilize stereo to the best possible?? when i pan it seems like its almost hard left or right... it dosent seem to move from one side to the other or round in circles and that sort of thing... any suggestions would be good... thanks...
  15. hi... i have an mk 425 c evolution kb.. its quite simple to assign controllers in fruity... all u do is right click on any knob and click on assign to controller..then just turn any knob on your mk midi keybrd...this knob is automatically assigned to the controller.. on vst's u will have to click on plugin options on the top left corner of a vst and then link to controller... also if u are looking for midi cc numbers the look up the manual...there is a table.. bye.
  16. thats good to hear...just go ahead and use it..hehe.. thanks guys...
  17. hi... recently i was trying to upload a track to the net and i read in the agreement that no copyright material allowed... i took a few voice samples of a dvd and used it on that track...and decided not to upload it.... i was just wondering what the system is?? i hear alot of professionally released tracks with various voice samples from movies.... do they get permission for that??? how about if the sample is tweaked till unrecognisable... like pitch shift etc... thanks...

  19. hi.. in fruityloops 4 is there a way to use the aux send as a pre aux or post aux??? it seems like only post aux is possible... i want only the wet signal and not dry and wet signal together... example- i want to use an effect or a filter on the wet delayed signal and not the dry signal.. thanks..
  20. hi.. how does one layer bass ? is it two or more bass synths running together using different wave shapes?? or is it two or more oscillators with different wave shapes on the same bass synth?? how should layered bass be eq'd and compressed? or are the layers far apart on the frequency spectrum and only need to be eq'd if required?? thanks.. chirag..
  21. how about the virus ti , c or nord lead 3....
  22. hi.. i get stuck so often after making a bassline and percussion like a drum loop or two... i kinda know what sound i want but i'm not able to make it... i would like to know how to make some dark pads or drones... also i'd like to know some wave shapes to use in combination for some nice dark textures for leads and also pads... what vst's could i use??? i really like grapes of wrath, psycho micro, digital talk ...that sort of style... thanks
  23. hi... i have been having a little trouble understanding the use of the pitch knob and pitch lfo in psy trance... it seems like the pitch knob is the same as transposing to another key... and transposing certain patterns and not the others makes it all sound out of key.. what are some of the ways to use them?? can i use it on basslines?? thanks..
