I wonder if you could actually pass a blind test to differentiate between high quality mp3 and CD audio. I agree that a good sound system is important, because it actually makes a huge difference, but the difference between good quality mp3 and CD is minimal. And then you can always do what I do and download flacs (lossless audio codec) instead of mp3s.
  2. I can think of only two albums I can really get excited about from this year: Filteria - Sky Input Juno Reactor - Labyrinth Filteria shows that it's still very possible to make fresh sounding, intense, melodic goatrance and Juno shows how to blend different musical styles for amazing results (IM & X-Dream take notes coz your attempts sucked). Then there has been lot of proggy stuff that I can't get excited about but is still good/ok/nice/pleasant listen: 12 Moons - Solid State Andromeda - Temptations FREq - Strange Attractors Kooler - Open Son Kite - Colours The Higher Human Form - Neurohighways And some other stuff worth mentioning: Four Carry Nuts - Mechanical Age Fünf D - Angelheart Jupiter 8000 - Twisted Bliss
  3. Juno Reactor - Conquistador Part 1 Infected Mushroom - None of This Is Real
  4. With goa I understand psytrance that has some eastern influenced melodies, I guess that's the difference. Not much goa been made after 90's, unfortunately.
  5. So why not leave it downloading when you go to bed and by the time you wake up it will be ready? Even with a modem you would get it 10 times faster than ordering a CD via mail.
  6. Hold on now, what the hell is going on in here? First Filteria comes and blasts away with his amazing, Pleiadians influenced melodic explosion, and now you're telling me there's another melodic goa piece coming up? I thought music was supposed to be dead and buried years ago and we were all supposed to live with boring, randomized noise for the rest of our lives?! I'm stunned.
  7. Huh, don't miss it just because you can't buy it anymore (if you can't). That's what the Internet is for.
  8. Well, after listening to this for a couple of days now, I would have to disagree and say that it is that good. Definately better than anything else I have heard in many, many years (besides Juno Reactor - Labyrinth). Of course you are entitled to your own opinion, but if others want to herald this as the next big thing, that is their right also.
  9. Well, by keeping in mind that it's a 3 minute sample, I suppose. The thing is that this is so different than anything else out there that you could judge that from a 10 seconds sample. Of course such judgement is not the same thing as reviewing an album, more like first impression etc.
  10. After listening an mp3 version of the album one thing bothers me though. Is it just me or have the melodies lost some of their screaming edge in the mastering process? They sound somehow softer and more "messy" than in the samples that were available on the filteria site? On the plus side there seems to be more kick in the bass drums and the overall soundquality seems better, still it kinda bugs me that the melodies don't sound quite as exploding as in the original samples. Or maybe there's just something wrong in the rip I got.
  11. Just the first that pop into mind: Pleiadians - Electra Hallucinogen - Shamanix Transwave - The Rezwalker (London Live Remix) Ra - R.O.M Tim Schuldt - Ohm Shiva and some already mentioned.
  12. Well since it's a survey I think our non-spiritual persons' opinions are important as well. However the radio buttons don't seem to work for me so I couldn't answer.
  13. In other words it progressED. In that case it should be called progressed trance, not progressive trance, because imo the music itself that we call progressive isn't such. It is not moving forward but standing still. It doesn't continue steadily by increments, because it never has many sounds at once, more like minimalistic?
  14. Hmm, I'm having major troubles understanding where these genre definitions come from. I mean the dictionary definition for progressive is as follows: # Moving forward; advancing. # Proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change. What comes to progressive music I think the first definition can be ruled out. Obviously progressive trance is very much formulaic and tied into certain fixed form. And the second would seem to fit much better with music that adds layer after layer and continuously builds, again this definition would seem to fit much better with other types of trance than what we call progressive. Then again the artists you mentioned could very well be called minimal in my opinion, they have less layers and things going on than goa or full on etc, thus minimal? The problem I have with minimal is that instead of minimal it to me seems to often mean more like nothingness, that is that there is absolutely nothing going on in a track... At least that's what I think of lots of the minimal that came out around 2000.
  15. Haha yeah that is really weird? Can it be accidental? Even if they did it on purpose I think it's a funny idea in a good way. LOL
  16. Well, I can only defend myself, when I said I'm glad it's over, I meant that I'm glad it's over SO something new and better can emerge. What I did not mean is that I'm glad someone loses something that they like. It's just that sometimes it at least appears so that these subgenres kind of take over the whole scene and if you don't really like that particular subgenre then there may not be much to get excited about for an unknown period of time.
  17. Well, obviously I'm not happy that you are loosing a genre that you like. Back in 2000 it's just kind of felt that the minimal wave killed everything I personally liked about goa & psy, but I guess it's wrong to blame minimal for that. It's just how it felt back then... So don't get me wrong, I'm just hoping for the good days before minimal to come back.
  18. Yep maybe I see your point, maybe I don't. Perhaps there's this sort of separation in the music these days. Maybe that's why I really don't like most new psy. The crazy party music is missing something that for me separates music from just noise, and the homelistening stuff just doesn't have enough to get you "there".
  19. Yep, I got into the whole party thing (what's possible here anyways) too late I guess. I did see Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom, Man with no Name etc live a couple of years ago and I thought it was great, even if you guys mind the stage effect or whatever, or think that you can't play a set with such artists at night. Maybe I just haven't learned yet to be picky enough.
  20. Yes you are absolutely right, that's exactly why I said that when I go to party I have to settle for whatever it is they're playing, because I just don't like new psy (with a few exceptions of course). For me it's basically all the same whether they play commercial trance or new psy because I can't get excited from either one.
  21. Yes. For me it was for instance stressing to be in the army partly because I couldn't listen to music very often and I have been used to listen to it all day every day. That's why I put a questionmark in there because I was unsure which term would best describe it, I thought you saw these issues as "problems" in music. I like artists like Hallucinogen, Pleiadians, Chi-A.D., Ra, Dimension 5, Transwave, Man With No Name, Cosmosis, Tandu etc etc etc. I don't know if you find that home listening or party music but I know I'd love to hear that stuff on either occasion be it home or a party.
  22. If it's dead, then I'm glad it is. In my opinion it was the most useless genre of them all. If anything, right now is the comeback time for real goatrance. Bring on the Filteria.
  23. Ok I understand your point, but for me both problems(?) seem like minor things to worry about. I don't get stressed from music, I get stressed if I can't have it!
  24. Hehe, no doubt I could never enjoy those artists dancefloor or no dancefloor. I just don't see how music that I pretty much hate would suddenly become likeable in a different place, it's the same damn music. By the way, what is stage effect?
  25. I'm sure there's space for both kinds of music, that is if you feel there should be a division such as that. What's important here is that that is your personal opinion, not an absolute fact. For me it simply isn't like that.
