  1. Different strokes for different folks, as they say. I've tried hard to acquaint myself with this compilation, but it leaves me somewhat buzzled everytime. There are okay tracks. Don't get me wrong. For the full-on follower, I'm sure, each and any of these tracks played at the right hour would rock your sox off. I know my sox would do the gymnastics ! But I'd probably only go for one dance, then I'd gotten bored. It leaves me unimpressed! If I go for full-on, there are so many, much more interesting acts out there. Filteria, Altöm, Rinkadink. Even Serotonia, if you like straight full-on-no-bullshit psytrance. Still there are three trax here I guess comes border close a safe purchase, namely, Alien Project, Electric Universe, and Kinetic. They're not essential. They're not highly recommended. But they're a safe purchase on an over-all "well, ..." album.
  2. You think My point was merely whether that was sananton's intention. Anyway

  5. As sometimes is with older releases, and then particularly the later your discover them, you have to work with them to get the full impact of them. I find Alien Protein such a release. I don't hear nearly the complexity here that I hear in nowadays cutting edge psytrance releases and thus need to hold my breath when putting this album on. Little by little, however, I will then be able to border the Etnica bandwagon. And what a beatiful midnineties goa voyage Etnica is then laying ahead! Overly melodic, simple, upbeat, happy and cheerful, but without any cheesy elements, Alien Protein comes across as one true, happy attitude rocker. It may sound simple, but as is with simplicity it can come across so very insisting, and when done the Etnica in their prime kind of way, never more so. Tripping on this is one hell of a nostalgic bliss taking me back to the very early goa days. And that's about the time when an album holds all I'm looking for. Highly recommended to fans of midnineties psytrance. Fav's: Screaming butterfly, Z-Plane Sunrise, Starship 101, Deep East, and Trip Tonite.
  6. This has got to be my favourite Koxbox/Psychopod release sounding as exciting and fresh today as it did in 1995. Everything works to perfection here. While I sometimes find Koxbox/Psychopod releases challenging to decipher and therefore more suited for "listening" purposes rather than dancing, the sounds of Forever After spiralls right into my mind and feet. I can trip equally well in a comfortable chair as go mayheem on the dancefloor with this baby and opening track Point of no Return has the perfect title. Once on you need to hear it through ... Favourites? Impossible to pin out. All! A magnificent 5/5 stars if there ever was one. Essential.
  7. X-Dream has been one of my favourite psytrance acts since being introduced to them with this album in 1997. Everything reeks talent, psychedelic craziness and innovation here. Two youngsters entering with a shitload of ideas and balls to carry it out. The amount of hairraising moments is almost endless, while their later taking to darker psy/tech-trance also reveals itself just below the surface. Our Own Happiness makes out the backbone of this record, but every track really has its own to offer, and my favourite be either one on any given day. Recommended to all psytrance listeners, and a sure must for old skool lovers. And my personal fav: Our own happiness for sure. I will NEVER grow tired of that bass. Well, that'll be the day psy don't do it for me no more ...
  8. The Emperor's old clothes ...? There seems to be general consensus throughout the psytrance community that this is THE quintessential psytrance album. Only briefly acquainted with psytrance in 1995, I didn't get onboard the Twisted waggon back then, however, and didn't like this album when introduced to me in 2000. So, scandalize and ridicule me if you must, I have only gotten to know this album now. But possibly ruining all review credibility what is Twisted doing to fresh ears 10 years after its release? As with many "dated" releases one has to appreciate the time of making. Even if the style here still comes across as highly psychedelic, it doesn't catch me off guard. At least not at first hand. Time has had its effect. Besides, Posford is loaded with ideas and the tracks never sticks to one theme or mood for a longer time, making it challenging instantly to trip on. But then when you give into it and convince yourself this is majestic, you start to fathom how breathtakingly impressive this may come across at its best. I heard someone refer to this as your brain on acid. That could be true. You certainly realise what an enormous impact this sound has had on psy music in general, and how Posford's influence is traceable to this day. So is all the hype justified? Well, I've heard quite a few trance album since this was released, but seldom an album that turnes me on and off this much, or an album with this much to offer. In 1995 this must have been a bomb! My personal verdict 6 years ago, however, still pretty much stands. This is psychedelic to the extent you have to go ALL in to get it, and mostly I like just a little part of brain to remain close to status quo. Those looking for psychedelic mayheem madness should still have a field day here though.
  9. Those looking for psychedelic trance music packed with details, ideas, and highly intelligent need look no further. Psychopod's 55 mins long Headlines cd sounds close to Koxbox, but twisted a notch or three extra to make this some of the most wicked, obscene nineties psystrance, I know off. The music here at times is infinitely far out, practically "full-on psychedelic" if there ever was such thing, but always carried out with so much intelligence you never need worry that the chain falls off. Psychopod knows exactly what parameters they're twitching. Actually, once you truly realise that, this cd will come back and haunt you even more vigirously. When that happens I will need to regrade this to a 5/5 or possibly a 6/5 stars. For now, however, I need to grade this 4/5 simply because, whilst I love to trip on Headlines in small doses, I am still not fully able to enjoy dancing to it. Too much is going on for me to just enjoy the dancing codes. And at the same time, I can't sit still for too long with this cd. Then I'm freaked out! But in small doses and at the right time every track here is a stand out psychedelia experience and the cd as a whole a true gem in any well equipped psytrance collection.
  10. Ordered it Monday, received it Wednesday , just popped it on and sense trippin approaching All is said in the reviews above for now. Dark and dirty psychedelic forest trance.
  11. the link won't work on my computer Can you recheck it. I think I'd like to come Skelly always likes a good party
  12. That's stretching it DP ! That's stretching it veeeeery far
  13. Label: Solstice Music Europe Catalog#: SOLM-CD011 Country: France Released: 2004 Tracklisting: 01 Become Aware (8:20) 02 External Pleasure (7:29) 03 The Tunnel (7:50) 04 Epicycle (6:24) 05 Space Flights (7:47) 06 Function Of Color (7:03) 07 Energy Transport (8:16) 08 Stimulated (7:25) 09 Serotonia (7:26) 10 The Ecstasy Of Revelation (8:27) Question: What do you do when your favourite full-on artist, Astrix, stops making the type of full-on you like after his debut album? Answer: Start looking around for other quality full-on artists! Altöm showed up some time ago, Rinkadink recently, and now Quadra! Like full-on with a dark twist? The rolling bass and the energy, but not the cheesy elements so often accompanying? Then you wanna check out Quadra's Serotonia. Yep, I've said so before in my reviews of full-on albums: When these starts challenging you with some dark influences, this music is so rewarding. Forget about difficult patterns and psychedelic sounds you have to decipher. Forget about funky, progressive basses, you have to appreciate. When full-on takes me on, it always has to do so full handed. You can't be almost pregnant, and I can't be ALMOST on the full-on wagon. I have to go all in. Well, Quadra is selling, and I'm buying the full ticket here. Full on at its most exquisite, insisting, formula true, mind consuming self. And with a force here and there so freakingly strong it knocks me over. Check out for instance Epicycle at 4:53. If it needs to be done any more difficult than this, don't tell me when I'm tripping ;o). Rating this 4 or 5 stars is all a matter of how you rate. This album contains 9 full-on megablasters, but if you wanna be really picky, you might say there's not much new here. But who fucking cares when it's so well carried out and so freaking pleasant to listen to!?
  14. A few not so interesting tracks aside this is a very interesting full-on release. On the downside, Electro Sphere's and BLT's tracks doesn't really rock my psychedelic boat. The former is some sort of minimal full-on and the latter proto typical full-on. Also Exaile falls through, though they got a great sample going: "In a few moments you will have an experience which will seem completely real". Mkay ... the bass DOES seem really boring! The rest of the tracks, however, ranges from okay to smashing ! Nes vs. Mr. Peculiar and their "Graffiti" is my favourite, a full-on tune but with a great melodic part and a dark edge forcing you to go deep. Awesome dancer! Evil Drug Lords' Resonance follows this line of thought. Dark full-on with a vibe and long repetitious sections. When you gotta work with full-on like this, it is so rewarding! Closing track Have A Good One by Zen Mechanics closes the album in style, though being a track more building up than delivering, it might have suited better as an opener. Finally, Rinkadink enters with his trademark full-on, i.e. full of ideas, energy, and different sections, all with personality. This South African dude is the guy to watch! With the less interesting tracks this baby feather lightly touches the 3/5 stars bar, but the rocking ones here easily makes up for the purchase!
  15. You're not the first to use this argument, and I have never understood it. What's your point? All hail the leaders and agree with their decisions or stfu? I think they made a wrong decision. I voice my opinion. I get a reply that doesn't convince I'm still allowed to protest. No? Besides, I thought the psy scene was, well, at least partly, about tolerance. That includes being tolerant towards the people that are not being tolerant towards you! Otherwise there's no trick in being tolerant!!! But fuck it. The decision has been taken. I see 10 posts for lifting the ban for every 1 one post supporting it, and nothing's changed. But goddamnit. I'll voice my opinion any fucking time I want to.
  16. Guilty pleasures Hmm, I have a couple. Roxette - A Thing About You. The chorus is just so banale, honest and sweet. Coldplay - Speed Of Sound. I really think this is one of the greatest poprock songs ever written. Would LOVE to hear trance remix of this. It must be possible. Had the song in my head for months after I heard it the first time. Some Enrique Iglesias I quite like. Rhythm Divine. That rocks. And Bailamos. fuck me, I'm mainstream !
  17. Label: Rumour Records Catalog#: TRIPCD02 Country: UK Released: 1995 Tracklisting: 01 Astral Projection Power Gen (07:31) 02 Salamander Tempest (Moonweed Mix) (06:10) Remix - Moonweed 03 Total Eclipse Le Lotus Bleu (Remix) (07:17) 04 Razor's Edge The Zoo (Sourmash Remix) (10:09) Remix - Sourmash 05 Etnica Tribute (08:20) 06 Organic Tea Citric Acid (07:25) 07 Man With No Name Sly-ed (05:52) 08 Spacebuggy Starlit (08:01) 09 Disco Volante Moonraker (Man With No Name Remix) (07:23) Remix - Man With No Name 10 Morning Wave Dreams (07:02) In 1995 trance as a genre was still in its infancy and I will ascribe this fact, that Morning Wave's Dreams was included on this album. If this is goa trance, let alone trance, call me Albert Hoffmann. Wow, this is pretty horrible techno (the sample is stupid, the bass is boring, the lead is cheesy) to end this album. Striking that the fall through tracks on this album are placed either at the beginning or the end! Track 2 and 3 ain't much worth either. So let me jump right to the middle section Etnica, as always, delivers. Tribute carries all the Etnica trademarks, and in 1995 they never shone brighter. Fantastic track from start to finish. Organic Tea has the challenge of following up and does so surprisingly well!! Interesting for me as I knew nothing of this act beforehand and to my knowledge hasn't released anything else on major labels/compilations since. But here they treat us a techno inspired trance track, that doesn't start very well, but at some point falls in place and comes through. Trust me, give in to it and at 6:22 your patience is rewarded . Just remember, the real melody here to follow is the "bass" kicking in at 1:39. If you get on that, it's quite deep ;o) M.W.N.N. also makes one of his earlist appearances here. Trippy, deep, and melodic trance, at the same time, Martin Freeland seats the dance floors on a flight to Smileville, but we sure all will appreciate this for the girl in us! Beatifull track. Hell, he even gets away with modulation at 3:12. Lastly, it would be downright improper not to mention Razors Edge's The Zoo (Sourwash rmx). Like Organic Tea, they too start questionable, fouling with a lame "Futuro, Destiono" sample, but with a bass saving the day from 1:08. Oh, and when it goes mayheem around 3:39 ... You know the tracks where you never know if you're following the right bass? A couple of improper tracks aside this an interesting 1995 psytrance release and definitely worth considering if you come across it.

  19. I don't think my taste in music is superior to any ones Only that I am not so much (at all, practically) under the influence of CEOs of the big record labels. Yeah, I'm sure many would prefer Georgi boy. But they never gave x-dream and trance a chance, cause they never knew about it and never dared or had the energy to find out. Be it trance, house, indie, tribal, punk, garage etc. They watch Georgi boy again and again and again and again ... When it finished at the gym they even started it all over ffs !!! Perhaps a little inspiration and innovation guys ... !!!!! But nooooooo, we know Georgi boy so we stick with him. Forever and ever and ever ... But what do you mean "george michael at a gym club"? Doesn't he fit in here precisely with all the testoteron pumped people (not including me ).
  20. So I went to the gym some hours ago. Yep, my conscience couldn't be any better right now. Celebrating with a spliffy So anyway, at the gym they got this HUGE video monitor. 8 x 5 meter or something. Huge motherfucker. And as always cheesy places like this they show cheesy videos. This time (2nd time in a row) they were running George Michael Ladies & Gentlemen from start to finish. Talk about ego ... The great thing was I was listening to X-Dream Radio while pushing the tin! Pretty fucking funny to trip on THE psychedelic trance album, while people around me could watch GM sing another of his crooners. Jesus to a child ... dang dang. These people don't know what they're missing only obeying the heads of big record labels! And I bet I work out harder to X-Dream than Star Fucking People
