  2. at least this album got me interested enough to get out of my reviewing "retirement" Well, first of all, I'm very skeptical about remixes, especially when they touch absolute classics, my first thought would be "but what was wrong with the original?". On the other hand, I guess anyone who was into goa in the 90s can't help give this a listen since it basically has some of THE absolute classics remixed by what is in the memory of most THE goatrance group of the 90s. So then, how does it actually sound, well, good for memories sake and at least they kept true to the goatrance sound rather than make some crappy full-on remixes like Transwave did a few years ago. However, since esentially there is nothing new here I already got bored with it after a few days so I couldn't give it more than a 3/5... Highlights would be Mugen and Feeling Very Wierd (especially the robot voice in the climax which Anoebis seems to hate, funny how tastes can be different )
  3. umm I think you're forgetting that this is released on TIP Records? These guys are well aware of the marketing power of old classics, 1200 Mics and Simon P haven't released anything worthwhile in more than a decade (uptempo-wise), yet Raja Ram and Simon P are still one of the most sought after and highly paid DJs during festivals
  4. Felt lots of emotions when hearing that this was out. Gave it a few listens today and... hmm not really impressed Ok, I guess that on the positive side, they remained true to their goa roots and didn't make some stupid full-on/ progressive remixes. However, the problem here, as with like 99.9% of newschool releases it that it's just more of the same, no new territory is uncovered. Basically the ONLY part of a track that made me smile and nod my head (as odd as it might seem) is that part with the robot voice in Feeling Very WIerd (7:30). So yeah, great for memories' sake and I did enjoy giving a few listens but IMO it will get old really fast PS THANK GOD they didn't make another remix of Mahadeva
  5. Don't know if you've seen this, he has recently pushed a speaker on a girl who he considered got too close to him while taking a snapshot on her iphone... Later he said it was an accident and he appologizes (well, obviously now that he has a potential lawsuit on his hands you'd expect that...) although it appears pretty clear on the video that he didn't give a damn when it happened (it also appears that he was high?). [meida] [/media] anyway, he gets a major thumbs DOWN from me, total loss of respect here...

  7. hmm yeah I kindof get what you're saying and you're right, the more you don't feel attracted to a certain type of music, the more you have a tendency to dismiss it in the "don't like" pile without really paying attention to it (unless you're high and then you get amazed by the slightest high-hat sound haha ). However this is kindof my point from the beginning, I don't find a real leap in evolution in psytrance, if there is one it's only slight details (well, obviously there has to be SOME variation or else the artists would have copyright issues). Say, a difference like between X-Dream - Our Own Happiness and X-Dream - Peeter's Hoover. Only 5 years separate these tracks, yet there's a world of a difference between them.

  9. amen to that, although back in the days it would have been like 80% psy and 20% other music, these days it's more like 5% psy and 95% other music, I actually have more fun listening to what they call EDM than psy... Ah well that's exactly it, I've always had my "on-and-off" periods as well the problem is that back then I'd stay away from the scene for a few months and would be amazed to see how many fresh ideas would be around when I came back, however this isn't the case anymore today. Ok, in all honesty I have stumbled on a few interesting tracks like Phaxe - Angels of Destruction but overall I'm really getting the feeling that every substyle sounds almost exactly the same as it did a decade ago (well, except hitek although that's not really my cup of tea...) totally agree!! Psytrance was all about "music for the future", I remember when I was a kid we'd joke with some friends saying that this is the kind of music that aliens from an advanced civilization listen to, it's not the case anymore today IMO...

  12. thanks for you replies people, especially Scandinasia for those recomendations, nice to hear something fresh shounding As for the evolution/ devolution of psytrance humm well the way I see it it's simply that there's a lot more progressive and a lot less full-on than before, although I always found that most uninspired full-on was basically progressive with a loud bassline anyway, this being true ever since the turn of the century and the "evolution" of minimal. I guess there's just something with psytrance and having a monotonous 4/4 kicks and bassline with a little break and wooosh sound every now and then Hmm yeah, Hitek is more recent than darkpsy although IMO they use the exact same formulas just with the tempo a bit (a lot?) higher so I wouldn't really consider it really something new...
  13. hmm that's odd, personally I enjoyed Inception but never found it to be a great movie simply because I found the main idea too unlikely. BTW, South Park pretty much nailed the plot problems in the head in Insheeption ("just because an idea is complicated doesn't make it cool" ) On the other hand, I could totally relate to Interstellar, 99% of what is in there could be possible someday in the future IMO (well, ok, except the "love transcends dimensions" stuff which was a bit tacky). Part of it is already true today, like people concentrating on everyday concerns like food rather than space travel to the point where it seems unthinkable that people went to the Moon in the 60s PS never thought much about Paprika BTW, didn't really get what all the fuss was over that one...
  14. yep, just ranomdly stumbled on it on Spotify yesterday, didn't even know these guys were still in business lol Hmm well, a nice stroll down memory lane and I'm sure that old Pink Floyd fans will love it but it just sounds too old for me, if you're gonna listen to music that sounds exactly like it did in the 70s why not just take out your old CDs and give them another listen?
  15. Hi everyone, Don't know about you guys but lately I find pleasure in listening to just about anything BUT psytrance (I never thought the day would come...). The thing is basically everywhere alse you look there is evolution in music, for example dubstep came out of nowhere a few years back, now it morphed into trap, even commercial trance DJs are now playing mostly EDM, not to mention modern "radio" tracks that basically sound like slowed-down hardcore, these are very interesting times... EXCEPT for psytrance where I get the feeling that everything sounds EXACTLY the same as it did (at least) 10 years ago! And this is valid for all substyles I'm familiar with, ranging from progressive to dark to (not-so) newschool, forest, you name it.This really contrasts with the turn of the century where I had the feeling that a new subgenre would come out like every 6 months. The only real "evolution" that I have heard is putting dubstep parts in the breaks, although that doesn't really change the overall predictability of the track once the break is over. So anyway, since I don't want this to be the 1000th topic of compaining how things were better "back then", I'm wondering, are there any new directions or even substyles that have happened recently? Anything to take psytrance to a new level?

  19. umm, ok if you see it as a mashup then yes, however AFAIK people into rap usually hate high BPM music and people into high BPM music hate rap Although I have to admit it's growing on me, at least you get the feeling that ANYTHING could happen in a track as opposed to "incoming break at 2:00 followed by a climax at 3:00" etc. anyway, apparently this is the song that started it all: basically a rap track about going to the Thunderdome (how wierd is that? lol) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTkRehr3iGI
  20. This new fad seems to be hitting the dancefloors lately: having music that is a bit of everything in one track, so it has a dance part, a rap/ trap part and a hard part, like WTF?? And what is it called?   23. nah I wouldn't say so, just about every subgenre has its ups and lows, just look at goatrance, all it takes is a handfull of passionate people to bring it back to life again
  24. one picture says more than a thousand words taken from here Obviously, psytrance isn't even mentioned in the graph... I guess the most spectacular line is the rise and fall of dubstep and indeed, that's the feeling I had too, only in a handfull of years we went from "what is this new underground sound?", to "dubstep this, dubstep that" to "meh, you still listen to dubstep?". I mean, most genres have such an evolution but with dubstep everything happened so fast. Otherwise, isn't progressive house and deep house quite interchangeable? And no mention of "big bass" music like Hardcore/ hardstyle?
