  1. Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the whole music making thing; I"m a few months into it. I find your critiques, comments, and suggestions invaluable! Here's a track I made recently that was supposed to be drum&bass, but it morphed into some kind of fusion. I got some production tips from you guys based on my last track, and they helped a TON with this track...so anyway..it would help a lot if you could comment on any aspect of the track. here's a link to Haunted Hero. thanks http://www.soundclick.com/kaifeng
  2. I tend to get more focused when I'm really sleepy, so my best ideas come when I'm exhaused. I've never tried writing on drugs. I find it funny that when I'm well rested and full of energy it's difficult to write and extend themes/ideas into full tracks because I'm so easily distracted.
  3. hey guys. I'm a total newb here with making music but here's my newest song that is kindof techno and kindof psy :: shrug ::. click the black circle with the arrow in it to play the song. what do you guys think? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=794871 I've been messing with fl studio for not that long, and while I'm often happen with the composition of my songs, I'm often not happy with the "cheap" sound of my tracks. After listening to the pros and your guys' music, I realize I have a shitload to learn.
  4. music aspect: jeeze...this track is beautiful. so simple. I like the environment you created. :- O production aspect: damn this is so clean. it sounds very high quality. I just started making music and I use fl studio, but I don't know how to make my music sound so full. what do you use to make music?
  5. Can you guys help me classify the genre of my new song? I want to call it blend of psy & techno and...crap I don't even know. It's called "Cavern Occurance". You can click the black circle with the triangle inside to play the track. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=794871
  6. I'm not surprised by the negative responses to this album. I'm not a new IM fan. I've been listening to them since their first album, and have loved each of their releases ever since. That being said, I LOVE their newest album, Vicious Delicious, although I'm surprised so many people hate the track "Artillery". That track is my 2nd favorite on the album (the first being Heavyweight).
  7. In my opinion, I consider I classify the subcataories of "psy" based upon mood and environment they create. Full-On, in my opinion has energetic, almost attacking sort of mood which is niether "happy" nor "sad", but indifferent. Full On usually has simpler melodies (by "simpler" I mean more repetative and "easy" to remember, analogous to the hook of a pop song). IMO, "psytrance" can have any mood, but has "odd", "erie" or "weird" undertones or environments. Psytrance tracks also can have more complex melodies; ones I might not be able to remember exactly in my head [[Younger Brother, Hux Flux, Haltya, etc...]] OR possibly might contain many chapters(for the lack of a better word) with varying themes [[think Infected Mushroom - The Messenger]]. Goa, on the other hand, has minimal melody , imo, and is usually pretty monotonous, kindof like droning with variations in beat and synth choice. I love them all though.
  8. I'm a fan of Derango's "Phenix" on this compi
  9. Cancellation and Violation are my favorite tracks on this compi.
  10. A pretty standard and non-creative psytrance track called "String Theory" by Man With No Name, which has an unfortunate title because string theory is very creative and interesting .
  11. Ok, so instead of asking "what are your favorite _____?", I want to know what artists have come out with the most UNIQUE electronic albums, whether they are psytrance, progressive, dark, ambient, chill. Please note that I don't want you guys to list your favorites or even albums that you like, but the most unique in terms of any combination of style, atmosphere, synth choice, mood, timbre, emotion, or WHATEVER. The most unique sounding album I've listening to recently was Kino Oko's "Lost Entertainment". There were only 2 tracks on the album that I truly loved, but the whole album created an environment unlike any of the psy releases I've heard. Even if you hated the an album but thought "omg I've never heard anything of this type!?" then post it here :-D EDIT: Woops, wrong forum. How come I can't delete my threads?
  12. I'm going to give this album a 6/10 for a being an ok conventional release and a 3/10 for innovation.
  13. Jon Cocca, I'm suprised there aren't more reviews either. Violet Vision is one of my favorite artists but their releases are few and far between. VV's style is never set in stone, so if people here their music one time and aren't flexible, they won't like VV the next time their here VV's music. That being said, "Your Voice" is one of my all time favorite tracks, but my favorite version of it is "Your Voice (pulse mix)", a very chilled rendition of the original. It's on the "Life is Creation..." compilation.
  14. I'm guessing it's something like aerobics to goa music.
  15. I think this album is "good" overall. Tracks 2 and 4 are my favorites
  16. hehe no. lol. Now it's basically just another "what's your favorite track?" thread, with one smalle exception. What difference does it make if you heard it for the first time in 2005?
  17. I think it was meant to be our favorite tracks in 2005, no matter what month they were released :-P. At least I hope that's what it meant. There's way more than 5 individual tracks that I love from 2005, so here's 5 of varying styles. Rinkadink - New Phizzics <- kick'n full-on track (slightly "cheesy") J.Viewz - Feeler <- chillout, very musical, with real sounding instruments. Broken Toy - Slaphead <- insane "cheesy" full-on. This has one the best buildups I've ever heard in my life. Jocid - X Ray Vision <- straight ahead energetic monotonous (melodyless) psytrance track that uses tight rhythms and gritty synths to drive the song. Tranan - Bump <- basic almost house/club style track that drops a simple heavy bass line. I like the texture of the track and it just has an overall kick'n pulse.
  18. Jon Cocco, I'd add "IM the Supervisor" to my list as well, but this album is from 2004. My list is the following Chillout/Fast Abstract first: Waterjuice - Melbaphonics J.Viewz - Muse Breaks V.A. - Life is Dimensions... Amon Tobin - Chaos Theory Pedra Branca - Pedra Branca Psytrance ... Broken Toy - Broken Toy Rinkadink - Pirate Signal Ocelot - VectorSelector V.A. - Check Your Pulse
  19. I enjoyed this album a lot because it's so unique. Whether it's housy or whatever I don't care :-P/ "Born Without a Soul" (1) and "Industry of Broken Parts" (8) are my favorites on this disc.
  20. Dangerous Game is my favorite track in this compi because it sounds so odd. IMO It sounds TOO odd for Penta to not have known where he wanted to go with it. My guess is that he wanted the track to sound out of whack, and that's what I like about it :-D.
