  1. Also, it's ripped from the master. Considering that Extrawelt tracks have so far only been released on vinyl (haven't seen them on any unmixed comps), the only versions you will find on the "free" file sharing networks will be ripped from vinyl and will have a lower quality than what you would get from the Border Community webstore. And honestly, £3 for all 5 tracks appearing on the vinyl? That's like $1.10 per track. How much cheaper can it get? This single rocks! 10x better than their Soopertrack/Zu Fuss debut on Border Community, IMO. I had to get my hands on the vinyl when I heard it in the record store instead of waiting for the download on Beatport.
  2. Beckers used to be more varied. I remember hearing him once in the Butan Club (you were there GSH - the Son Kite party in Dec. 2004) and he was playing all over the place. Dirty tech-house, some breaks, some proggy stuff....really diverse and really fantastic. Same with some other sets I heard from him in 2003/2004. But yeah - now he tends to stick more to the Beckers sound (at least when I've heard him). It's still damned enjoyable, but I haven't been surprised the last couple times I've heard him.
  3. I've heard D-Nox many many times, but have only heard Beckers by himself on a couple occasions. The main difference I could point out is that Beckers tends to be a bit more funky and *nastay* in his sets, whereas D-Nox pounds out the peak-time massive-bassline tracks (and tends to be a bit more melodic in his sets). They both thoroughly rock, though.
  4. Haha - I never saw it before. Infected Mushroom = Scooter
  5. Holy shit! Why the fuck didn't I hear this CD or see this thread before? I only heard the first couple releases on Exogenic breaks which I didn't like so much (more wacko Finnish style with a breakbeat or d&b rhythm), but this is the sort of stuff I've been waiting to come out of the psy scene since the whole psybreaks thing died several years back. Other recommendations in this style.... I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Tipper or KiloWatts. They do really cool IDM-ish breaks with a psychedelic feel like this Pyrexia CD. Carbon Community and Sons of the Electric Ghost (sometimes abbreviated just to SOTEG) are also sometimes producing a sound like this. The label of SOTEG is called Bless Records - they release a lot of this subtly-psy style of breaks. You might also want to check out Bassnectar - his music is more groovy than intense psychedelic, but the guy came out of the psytrance scene, so he has some pretty trippy wacked-out sounds in there. Search on discogs.com and you will find a lot about these artists. I might also suggest checking into some of the harder nu-skool breaks style. A couple of the samples on that Exo. Breaks compilation reminded me of artists like The Breakfastaz, Transformer Man, DJ Mutiny & Quest, etc. Beware, because this style sometimes incorporates some hip-hop influences. It's not my favorite style, but you will still find a lot of really hard & heavy psychedelic stuff from these guys. Might be your cup o' tea. You could also check out some of the more tek-funk/breaks artists like Force Mass Motion, Meat Katie, Elite Force, Lee Coombs, Dylan Rhymes - maybe more their releases from 2001-2004 (their material in the last couple years incorporates a lot more electro & vocal influences). FMM in particular lays down some thick acid that almost has a slight old-school goa feel to it. I'll also have to highly recommend (maybe more like put on a pedestal ) the artist Introspective. He's been my favorite breaks artist for the last couple years. He's producing really thick, nasty acidic breaks that IMO is extremely psychedelic. Here's a link to his discogs.com page - he's got another release coming out soon on Sinister Rec. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Introspective+(3) BTW, most of the stuff I recommend is unfortunately releases primarily on vinyl. But you can definitely find a lot of it on download stores like Beatport, and I bet you could track some of it down through less scrupulous means as well (Arrrrrr!). Shameless self-promo......you might like some of the tracks in a mix I recorded last year - you can download it here: http://www.krelmatrix.com/broken_symmetry.html Look for "Gonzo Beats". It's gotten some good reactions from psy people before. I would say to skip maybe 15-20 minutes into it for the slightly more psy-ish stuff, and pay special attention to the last 4 tracks.
  6. I was being half ironic. Bringing a blindfold to parties from now on could increase your musical enjoyment if you find yourself in a situation with over-enthusiastic performers. My only true idol is the one that exists only in my head as the amalgamation of Skazi, Eskimo and Axel Rose. If you *ever* diss Skazkimo Rose, I will find you and give you paper cuts with Chemical Crew CD covers.
  7. Then close your eyes or turn in a different way and quit yer bitchin! Peter Didjital does totally rock ass. Heard him last year and he blew my mind. I just wish he would come to Germany more often.
  8. I consider several tracks off of their latest album XI to be really dark-flavored full on. Strange - for me, none of that stuff is really dark. Twisted & chaotic, yes, but it doesn't inspire any feelings of darkness in me. Heavy, dark melodies are what do the trick for me. Now Tim Schuldt....that man was the dark master.
  9. I bought my CD version of it for something like $10 a couple years back on ebay. Ebay prices aren't always indicative of the real selling value of a CD since sometimes the same CD will fetch an unusually high or low price there, depending on the how the listing is written and how many people are interested in the item at that particular point. BTW, I'm selling an vinyl version of Transmissions for €50 if anybody is interested. (sorry to hijack your topic crazyboris )
  10. Holy shit, that Chicago cover has got to be the worst I've seen yet. And that San Fran Psychos cover is fahrking awesome! In a cheesy King Diamond sort of way, of course.
  11. Yeah, full-on discussions are completely boring which is why it's nice to interject some humor into them occasionally. I guess some people just don't get humor though, eh? Nobody cares what you listen to.
  12. Go sit in the corner with radi, you dirty full-on-o-phile. We don't like your kind 'round here. (now I'm going to go listen to some Xerox & Illumination )
  13. I think you are lying. Maybe you should show people the *real* unphotoshopped picture that you made into your avatar...hmmmm? Nice t-shirt. Full-on hater my arse!
  14. I got to play this one on a rather immense sound system this past weekend and it really reminded me of the true genius of the Project Genesis album. It's so brooding and dark, and ridiculously psychedelic. I'm slightly apprehensive about their upcoming album (*if* Hommega ever actually fucking releases it), but there is hope. One of the teaser tracks from the new album - "Shining Faces" also absolutely rocked the dancefloor in the middle of the night last weekend. When you first hear it, it sounds pretty full-on. But on a good system, the classic MFG dark brooding industrial flavor ala Project Genesis definitely comes through. Fucking perfect. Let's hope the rest of the album lives up to it...
  15. Blue Room and Matsuri - both were going in amazing experimental directions before they closed down.
  16. "There's not enough EQ knobs on this mixer channel for the two of us...."
  17. At least this guy is smart enough to put the laptop next to the mixer so he can give the illusion of doing something.
  18. Wow, what a waste of time. If I gather what's going on correctly, then this is a video of the artist Intersys giving a live PA at this party. If you look at the very beginning of the video, you can really briefly see him do something at a laptop (pressing PLAY ). When the song changes, he runs back over into the direction of the laptop. Other than that, he's just messing with the EQs on the mixer (not the CDJ effects). In other words... LAME!!! Usually when you see these guys doing a "laptop live PA", they are at least standing in front of the laptop pretending to do something. This dork is just cuing up tracks and twiddling the EQs on the mixer. You can even see some synths in front of the laptop that are probably not even plugged in.
  19. I heard Psaras play his remix at the Tshitraka festival last summer. Was not impressed at all. I was told he had also done a more commercial house remix with Steve Mac around the same time, so the madness ain't over yet... The 2 mixes on the original viny are still the best, IMO.
  20. Funny - it all seems to be releases from the Liquid/Organic posse.
  21. Yeah, this EP totally rocks. Totally deep. I'm really into Certain Things Pt. 1, but the second part (Radiohead semi-bootleg) is also great. The Steve Barnes remix is proficient, but IMO not nearly as good as the original tracks. If you like that sort of sound from Minilogue, I would also recommend checking out the material they released recently on Frosty Music. There was the Spam EP (which was also on the most recent Tribal Vision CD) and they also did a remix for the Asle Björn song called "Lucky You". They also have another 12" coming out soon on some new label that is really great. I think it's released in a couple weeks - the guy who runs a local record store got a promo copy and let me listen to it a few days ago. I forget the name of the EP and also of the label, but I'll ask the guy in the record store about it. And I wouldn't call this style really house or progressive or even really techno - it's really along the lines of that whole minimal/Cologne/Kompakt sound (ie, Traumschallplatten ). Really wicked stuff, IMO. Edit: The new EP I mentioned is called "The Girl from Botany Bay" and is being released on WIR (sublabel of Traumschallplatten). There are samples here: http://www.wordandsound.net/article/39894
  22. That's going to sound bad/abrasive to anybody - not just those with perfect pitch.
  23. Fuck - of course I wrote 2005 in the subject. But the party is really happening in 2006.
