  1. Politics aside.... That's what I call a crappy cover. Looks very amateurish. Back to the subject of politics - I personally don't want it infecting the music I like. Politics are around me everywhere - in the news, on the TV, in many conversations with friends - everywhere. I love a good discussion of politics and like to keep abreast of what is going on in the world. But one must also remember that it is a very divisive subject. If you start putting political messages and themes in the music and on CDs, then you will alienate a large part of the audience. Not that I want to use music as a way to ignore politics and the world situation, but I just find it to be a bad and potentially harmful & divisive choice to mix trance and politics. As I've said before, I don't give a shit if the person I'm dancing next to loves George Bush or thinks he is the devil incarnate. I don't care if the DJ supports Israeli occupation of Palestine or is against it. In the figurative sense, if somebody wants to talk politics with me, it's more than welcome - just wait until I'm off the dancefloor. Then we can talk about it till our voices go hoarse.

  3. Hey Ktrance, much thanks for the honest feedback! I can definitely see how the vocal samples could get a little annoying - I didn't even realize how many were in there until I read your post and mentally went through the tracklist. I have just recently warmed up to more vocal samples in tracks - they used to bug the shit out of me, but now I just hear them as another instrument. Diva vocals still drive up the wall. Although I will admit that the vocals in the "Shine a Light" track are a bit gratuitous. Were the music in that track not so damn good, that record would have probably ended up as a frisbee.
  4. OK, the mix is back up - sorry for the delay. I think the bandwidth of the Bijoubreaks site gets a little strained at the end of the month. But it will be up for 2 more weeks with no interruptions. Here is that link again: http://www.bijoubreaks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=159 And here is a tracklist for anybody interested: 01. Pappa & Gilbey - Ortygia [Wrecked Angle Remix] (Choo Choo) 02. Export Audio - Stay [break Even Mix] (Sprout Music) 03. Mara - Desanitize [Terminalhead Remix] (Hadshot) 04. La Liga - Out in London [breaks Mix](Bedrock Breaks) 05. Soul of Man - Dirty Waltzer [santos Remix] (Mantra Breaks) 06. Meat Katie & Christian J - Turn Me Out (Kingsize) 07. Splitloop - Klaxx [introspective Remix] (Sinister Recordings) 11. Ticon - It Breakz My Heart (Digital Structures) Feedback still welcomed.
  5. A recent mix of mine is currently the featured mix on www.bijoubreaks.com - it is the first hour from my Aug. 16 radio broadcast (Broken Symmetry). The musical style is breaks with a definite psy flavor...one might venture to call it psy-breaks at some points. The format is 224kbps .mp3, and the mix is approximately 60 minutes long. The mix will be available until Sept. 15, so don't hesitate. Just follow the below link for tracklist and download. http://www.bijoubreaks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=159 All comments are welcome!
  6. I heard some of it at a party this last weekend, and also heard some samples in a record store a couple weeks ago. What can be said - it's no better and no worse than anything else from this camp in the last couple years. Not especially bad in small doses, but more or less pointless and uncreative. Nothing new. I'm sure it will rock dancefloors worldwide and all that crap, but I just see no point in getting it. But I must say, the track "Trancemega" is one of the most annoying things I have ever heard. When Son Kite does the same thing and makes a "best of megamix track" like that is when I trade in all my psytrance records & CDs for commercial R&B. I also hope that the next album from Space Cat breaks the mold a little more than this one - he was always one of the Israeli artists to me that stayed away from any typical formula and did things a bit differently.
  7. 100% agreeance with the above reviewer....one of the best 12"s of 2001. "Fever" is a brilliant tribal progressive psy-house piece that *never* gets old on the dancefloor. Beautiful wisping vocals in the breakdown that build into a massive percussive explosion. "Sizzler" is a decent tune as well, but not even close to the dancefloor killer as the other side. "Fever" makes this one worth buying at all costs. Find it and get it. 10/10.
  8. Diversity is the quality that separates a good label from a truly great label. The Spiral Trax label group is one of the best out there right now. It is refreshing to see that Anti can release a killer full on album like this Talamasca album as well as a brilliant progressive album like the Matenda album within a few weeks of each other. If anything, this album proves that Anti has firmly grasped the plot more than most other label managers out there. Keep up the good work!
  9. One of the best CDs of 2001. Very groovy all around, with nice rhythms and a great progressive flavor. Only gripe is that several tracks on the album were already released on CD, but it is nice to have them all in one place. Hightlights are the laid-back morning funk of "Music" (tr 2), the tek-tribal stormer of "Groove Session" (tr 6), and the light, screechy, funky "Turtle House" (tr 7). Solid release for these guys. 8/10
  10. This is an absolutely brilliant piece of work. Some of it is previously released, but not all on CD. From the downtempo grooves of "Traveller" and "Future's End" to the classic full on track "Weirdoworld" to the psy-d&b offerings, every song on here is the hightest of quality. I personally love the breakbeat offerings here...he seems to have taken the whole psy-d&b sound to new heights. All are dark, brooding, heavy, deep, and intense, yet wonderfully atmospheric - sort of like LTJ Bukem on a bad trip. I'd have to say that "Inside" stands out as the top track on this album. The way it slowly progresses from a minimalistic dark brooding groove to a fully layered eerily melodic stomping jungle track is absolute brilliance. Every other track on the album is damn fine too, so my favorite changes dependent on my mood. If you only like the classic goa sound, avoid at all costs. If you want to hear an artist successfully experimenting and pushing the envelope in totally new directions, do anything you can to get your hands on this. Eagerly awaiting anything more from this guy. 10/10
