  1. Does it really matter if it's psychedelic or not? Good music is what it's all about for me personally, and that whole elitist "this or that is/isn't psychedelic" is so old and bores me to death. It was exactly the same discussion with the minimal-wave back around the millenium, as well as with all the Astrix-clones after his debut album. Psychedelia is all subjective anyways.

well it does matter for me, if any electronica music is not enough complex, well it bores me

illl take minilogue for example, and everything he does, i understand what he did. i mean, i do music, and i understand that he uses for example a reverb, and a delay ect.

what i like about psychadelic, is the feeeling like WOWWWWWW how he did that, and minilogue doesnt do that for me

  2. Not at all, and just because it's called psy doesn't neccessarily mean it will be psychedelic

    +1

For me psychadelic music doesnt have to be psychadelic in the hallucinogen's or shpongle way. For me psy is any electronica music that i try to analyse (i hope you know what i mean by this expression), but even tough i listen really carefully to the music, too much is going on, its too complicated to fully understand every little details. Electronica that i try to follow one melodie or one bass line, but changes so often that i lose the map, this is my defenition of psy

while trance is pretty obvious melodies, with a pretty clear bass line...etc.

So psy music doesnt have to contain hardcore modified sounds with big special effect to be put in the psychadelic style, but it helps. But the problem now, is that some full-on artist, or whatever israel is bringing on, makes some crazy sounds, the quality now is almost everytime top notch, but it is not enough complex, not enough changes.

  3. I know this is not a constructive opinion, and some people might put me down for being so direct and bold, but I think this whole neo trance movement is really boring.

I have been into electronic music long enough to have witnessed the demise and birth of many styles, genres and trends, but this has to be the worst I've heard yet. If I remember correctly, while a youth, I used to have more respect for speedcore and jumpstyle back when that was relatively fashionable, but this is just so disengaging I can't imagine going to a party where this stuff would be played for the whole night.

Not that I mean disrespect to anybody, I just cannot relate to this music at all.

yeah, its just pretty boring, i mean its well done and all, but i agree, i find it pretty boring
  4. okay... for idm, me its all Kettel, check pretty much everything hes done since cenny crush album (i have to suggest you real hard one this one)

then look for wisp albums, you will find free releases right there http://wisp.kaen.org/

then go look at autchre, the flashbulb( best album in my opinion is red extension of me), aphex twin, Boards Of Canada and plaid. With that, you have an excellent selection, going from melodic idm to the darkest idm side.

theres some ambient that combine idm and ambient. Artist like secede, subheim, Helios(I have to suggest you real hard this one, Lights Out Asia, blackfilm

you need to listen to mostly everything evan bartholomew/bluetech/evan marc has done, he has done idm and ambient into his three project.

    and some pure ambient:

    Mimesis

Emanuelle Errante album hummus is a masterpiece

    Ishq the album orchid

    Haushka

I suggest my all time favorite artist mostly from idm and ambient, you'll probably find something interesting. I didnt suggest anything from the psychadelic ambient side, but in the site, youll find a list for the best psychill http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?/topic/56586-the-best-psychillambientdowntempo-albums-of-all-time-compiled/

  5. I'm a big fan of Ultimae Records. This place is full of a top quality ambient music, including some danceable stuff.

Carbon Based Lifeforms, Aes Dana, Solar Fields, Hol Baumann, and Asura are my very best favorites. This is where whole album is great and unforgettable. Other good stuff from Ultimae includes HUVA Network, Kliment, and Sync24.

There is stuff like Vibrasphere, Kilowatts or James Murray, etc, which you have to decide for yourself if you like it. Vibrasphere has some GREAT tracks (like Mountain lake) but otherwise by genre it's morning trance, so not for every ocassion. Kilowatts (Ground State) are somewhat IDMish but also a lot ambient, so you should like it.

As for non-Ultimae stuff, I somewhat like the IDM album by Mouse on Mars - Radical Connector. But it's IDM with lyrics, not a pure Autechre's noise.

yeah, you liked the new kilowatts? it left me quite dissapointed, should check it out again
  6. Like Kozmik said it would be useful to know vaguely what acts you like so we can build from there. Without guidance I'd suggest things like

Midnight Soul Dive - V/A - Aleph Zero

    Oxycanta - V/A - Ultimae

Leaving Home - Solar Fields - Ultimae

    Elementary Particles/Prima Materia - Bluetech

The first three are what I'd personally say were great (and easygoing) ambient albums, but there are lots of others that would lump together all sorts of different downtempo as ambient and this is really just my personal idea. Bluetech is quite cool downtempo IDM stylyised grooves. It could be an idea to check out this site that Murphy is always spamming around (there's a couple of nice mixes on there as well), Abasio's reviews here and maybe checking out some mixes to find what you enjoy. Recently come accross this site which is full of nice, very deep ambient mixes.

+100 for midnight soul dive, really good mix between idm and ambient
  7. Hallucinogen's remix is always better then the original, witch is a good sign.

Ott of course, even tough, his remix album is not has good as the orginals one, ott just showed everyone a pretty shpongled side of hallucinogen world.

Aphex twin mixes for cash is pretty outstandong

Kettel had done a couple, and its always better then the original

  8. At least people eating fast food usually do so to save time in their busy schedule. Listening to psytrance is like a drug. It's an activity that thousands of lowlifes around the world participate in in place of accomplishing something useful.

but you were talkin about health here, and even if they buy fast food to save time, its still bad for the health. while psytrance just isnt

listening music is an addiction not only for psytrance lovers then

but what is there so much to accomplish, besides doing...some... psytrance! okay maybe its a drug

and theres a lot of people that go to fast food not to save time

  9. That's a good question. Some of his early tracks are the reason I listen to goa. Going downhill is relatively usual thing to happen ain't it? The producers see smiling drug-heads dancing to their tracks no matter what they produce, as they're big names they have nothing to prove either to get gigs. You can probably count with two hands the number of early acts that are still around with a fresh approach.

    +1
  10.

im really sorry about the off-topic, but theres no section for that.

Okay, if you really look at that video for the whole time, and then, you you look elsewhere, i swear to god, its like you hallucinate. and like for 5-10 seconds, ridiculous, i never tought a video would make me hallucinate.

    enjoy

  11.

you dont see any ressemblance between kettel and apehx twin? well, listen to old kettel, and you will see quite a ressemblance

lol for the cosmosis and logic bomb, i needed an example  , they are at least a bit like posford, no :D ?

  12. :)

Yeah, people NEED different tastes ;)

For me a journey must be perfect with nothing to distract me so if there is something out of place then I can't travel. Usually with Simon P's work that thing is his samples. They grate on my nerves & so I find it impossible to get lost in his tracks. Only the sample in LSD do I like but I could do without even that one ;)

    WHAT!?!?!?
  13. The IDM I listen to rarely sounds like Aphex Twin and the only psy I listen to that sounds like Mr. Posfords work or Infected Mushroom are their own releases :)

    kettel

    wisp

    flashbulb

just to name a few, sounds like aphex twin

and cosmosis, logic bomb, talpa, sounds like posford or infected mushroom

and honestly to sound like posford or aphex twin, its a sign of a good artist

  14. Jesus Christ that was a long and wastefull read. If you want to push the limit on my argument that far, then you might as well say that all artists who use the same instruments sound like eachother.

My opinion: Wisp clearly has a huge admiration for Aphex and that colours his work in a way that some listeners (like myself) might find his work a tad unoriginal.

Anyway, I don't know why I`m writing this since I don't know if you're trolling or not

    I'm the one trolling?

euh... you pushed the limit of your argument so far, that on a debate, i would be embarrassed for yourself :P

Imo a LOT of idm music will sound like aphex twin. And a LOT of psytrance will sound either like posford of IM.

and you didnt answer to any of my question :wank:

  15. I can dig that completely. I have made up my mind to come and look up Evan Bluetech some time and tell him how much his music has helped me have brilliant trips. I used to play his first two albums a lot when tripping on (5-MeO-)DMT and I only have superpositive feelings when I listen to it. Very good stuff indeed. :)

dmt? where do you live !!!!
  16. as a student, in class, i cant. But when im studying i always put music on. When i read, i listen to music, and i read about 2-3 hours a day. I always go to bed with music. and whenever im doing music, its just like if im listening to MY music. SO i'd say... 6-7 hours a day, plus the night, but does it counts? at work, im a janitor, so i work 7 hours shift and the whole time with music
