  1. True, its just that these tracks are, IMHO, the best I've heard of their respective producers. Yes, I know saying that Where is the best Ofer Dikovsky track is a lot but the track is simply perfect.

Of K.U.R.O. I've only heard Zoa, and I'd say Brain Structure is definitely better.

  2. Tracks, not neccesarily electronic, that give feelings similar to those trance gives....

White Stripes - Seven Nation Army - the guitar is simply crazy!

Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness

    Fatboy Slim - Acid 8000

Cranberries - Zombie - the vocals are really uplifting for me, they belong in a trance track

The Chemical Brothers - Private Psychedelic Reel

Rammstein - Ich Will - interesting electronic sounds

    Second Phase - Mentasm

    Enya - Tempus Vernum

    Plastikman - Plasticine

    Laurent Garnier - Wake Up

You can also try some regular trance tracks -> http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=54245

These won't give you the same amount of stimulation goa/psy does, but I hope atleast some of them will come close.

  3. People who love techno say that it has a lot of depth beneath the surface, but it simply can't take me to the places trance takes me to. Its just too repetitive, and frequently there isn't enough variation. The melodies in trance are unbeatable :) Techno is good, trance is better. I've never danced to techno so I can't judge them on that aspect. Trance also has more joie de vivre.

    Trance

  4. I 100% agree with you. Goa/Psy is absolutely amazing, on the best of it I feel like I'm flying into a star :posford: I heard my first psy track 2 years ago and haven't touched another genre since!! For me its the highest form of music. If I close my eyes while listening to goa I can see all sorts of crazy visuals =p

For most people, goa/psy is just too weird and crazy I think, but if you like it, nothing compares. I've been trying to find music that gives me the same level of stimulation and I've found nothing

  5. I think Amma by The Nommos is my fav tribal track till now, but I haven't heard much tribal. The track has this amazing, shiver inducing female vocal sample in the middle that, to me, sounds like it comes from the bowels of the Earth of something :o

The didgeridoo can sound really good too, try Aphex Twin's Didgeridoo track and the album a.b. didgeridoo oblivion - lucid dreaming

FSOL's Papua New Guinea is a nice tribalish track.

  6. that is acid techno to me :)

otherwise i agree with most things on your list (the rest i don't know)

Well it gives me the feeling that I associate with trance, not with techno. But its really hard, so maybe you're right and it crosses the line into techno.
  7. I love mind bending stuff too. IMHO if you want deep mindbending stuff then head for hard acid. I made a list of the really acidic stuff. Here goes.....

    Bamboo Forest - Sadhu (Goa)

Cosmosis - Gift of the Gods (Goa)

Chemical Brothers - Believe (Breaks) - The acid only peaks towards the end, maybe there is a mix that focuses on the acid more.

Darshan - Speed Freak (Dark Goa) - This is you usual darkpsy track but the middle of this track has some amazing acid.

    Doof - Double Dragons (Goa)

Dr. Octopus - Dr. Octopus (Trance)

Fatboy Slim - Acid 8000 (Breaks)

    GMS - Juice (Full-on Psy)

Hardfloor - Acperience 1 (Trance) - The essential hard acid trance track for many.

    Hallucinogen - Space Pussy (Goa/Psy)

Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness (Tweekin' Acid Mix or Original) (Breaks)

Kopfuss Resonator and DJ Jörg - Whipbird

Mama Indica - Radioactive Rain (Hard Acid Goa)

    Moonweed - Telepath (Trance)

MWNN presents Yogi and Grey One - Big Trouble in Outer Space (Dark Goa)

Razor's Edge - Exquisite Sin (Exquisite Acid Mix)

Solar Quest - Acidophilez album (Trance) - The entire album is good acid trance, but Acid Air Raid (George's All Nighter Mix) will blow your mind, it blew mine for sure.

Space Tribe vs Electric Universe - Rabbit Hole (Full-on Psy) - Plus every single track on Thru the Looking Glass , get it!!

    Stakker - Stakker Humanoid (House)

Uberzone - The Brain (Braindusted) (Acid Breaks)

Zodiac Youth - Fast Forward the Future (Voodoo People Mix) (Goa) - Make sure you get this mix, the Hallucinogen mix has a lot less acid.

I also highly recommend the Psychedelic Goa Core series, especially the first one. They're fast, driving, acidic mixed comps. Ubar Tmar is good too. And there was a topic on "Crazy Complex stuff" recently, it'll be in the next few pages of General somewhere.

Btw I don't find whatever I've heard of Skazi and Aphex Twin particularly mind bending, atleast when compared to the tracks listed above.

  8. I have never considered "The Gathering" a milestone... Of all the IM albums (except Vicious (un)delecious) it is the least interesting. I think.

    - A

    +1

    Ott - Blumenkraft

Say what you want, I don't like it. The first song is good, yeah. But the rest not IMO. Never understood the fuss that chill fans made about this one...

    +1

Umm...I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I find a fair amount of chilll uninteresting. Its not bad or anything but all of it sounds similar and it isn't psychedelic enough for me.

I also don't like GNOR that much, they need more rhythm and melody. As "acid techno" they're fine but not as "acid trance".

  9. I'm not really into techno, but I think the Mentasm EP is one of the greatest EPs of all time. Mentasm and Mind to Mind showcase two completely different sides of techno and both are compelling tracks.

    I also like....

    Plastikman - Spastik

    Plastikman - Plasticine

    Galaxy 2 Galaxy - Hi-Tech Science

    Sterac - Asphyx

    Aztec Mystic - Jaguar

3 Phase feat. Dr. Motte - Der Klang Der Familie

    Laurent Garnier - Wake Up

And I dislike Choice's Acid Eiffel, I find it really boring.

Otherwise I'm a total newbie when it comes to techno.

  10. Regular trance tracks I like in order of best to less best...

Dance 2 Trance - We Came in Peace

Solar Quest - Acid Air Raid

    Sasha - Xpander

Space Manoeuvres - The Seventh Planet (Leama & Moor Mix)

Rabbit in the Moon - Out of Body Experience

Future Sound of London - Dead Cities

    Orbital - Remind

    Quench - Dreams

Nathan Fake - The Sky was Pink (James Holden Mix)

The KLF - What Time is Love?

    Aphex Twin - Digeridoo

    Resistance D - Cosmic Love

    Aril Brikha - Winter

Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix)

    Lost Tribe - Gamemaster

    Balil - Parasight

Royksoop - A Beautiful Day Without You

    Brainchild - Symmetry (C-Mix)

The Light - Panfried (Original Mind over Matter Mix)

    Jam & Spoon - Stella

    Orbital - Belfast

    Union Jack - Red Herring

    Underworld - Thing in Book

Rabbit in the Moon - Deeper

    Emmanual Top - Acid Phase

Three Drives - Greece 2000 (Classic)

4Voice - Eternal Spirit (Northern Mix)

Robert Miles - Children (Dream Version)

Gabriel & Dresden - Lament (Satoshi Mix)

At the least, the first half of this list is definitely good stuff.

  11. This is a great album. I'll just post my Discogs review here.....

This is an under-rated album. After all these years, this album has aged well. There are some great moments, like when the melody comes in around 1:50 in Frequency Sucker. This album also has a strong experimental streak, each track is different. Hidden Dreams is a trippy, floating track, quite rare to see a something like it, while Virtual Island is a harder hitting track with something of a break in it. Space Child II has hats, acid and a melody combined very well. Listen carefully, and you'll notice the level of detail in it. Sleepwalker has this great futuristic atmosphere, with the vocal sample and synths repititively fading in and out. Waterdrome is unusually dark for a closer, similar to Sleepwalker, but darker.

Overall, this album is a must for anyone who's interested in or loves the oldskool Goa sound =] Produing an album like this in '94 is quite a feat.

  12. Fat of the Land is my favourite, every track on it is top notch. Music for the Jilted Generation and Experience are equally good. I didn't like AONO that much, its okay, the Girls track is fun.

I like the way Prodigy balanced being more mainstream than other electronic acts but still producing good stuff.

  13. I too initially thought psy was dead, but then later realised that as Basilik mentioned, its the signal to noise thing. There is enough good psy out there, you just need to find it :) IMO dark psy is psychedelic enough, its the progressive part that I dislike.

To me progressive psy is .... HOUSE, nothing more.
