  1. I never have but missed hanging out with posford for a whole week in 2000. I made friends with the promoter a few months later and Simon stayed at his house for the week. He did sound like a really cool guy. I know when the same guy brought Juno Reactor he said they acted like rock stars, needed a certain type of hotel, a laundry list of stuff they needed in the room, cartons of cigs. Simon just slept on the guys couch the whole time. I also went to get stoned instead of picking koxbox up from the airport, that was kind of stupid in retrospect. Then i moved to a different city and a few months after that all my friends there got Penta smash drunk at a bar and I missed that too....
  2. it was a joke....here is an actual dance lesson on what i was talking about, heh.
  3. the the pacman one is cool if you get the reference. that other one...the "artist" doesn't have an artistic bone in their entire body.
  4. if you dont know basic subtractive synthesis reaktor is probly a bad place to start unless you want to spend the next six months learning reaktor and drinking alot of coffee. i would say start with albino, cosmosis posted some nice patches on his site and you would be good to go.
  5. find a hot hippy bitch and start grinding her ass. they love when you do that.
  6. honestly man, i tried to read what you wrote past this statement but it all became gibberish to me. Some people post serious pyschedelic blowhard bullshit on here but please take me at my word that is not what i'm going for here. The idea of "prerational rational" and "postrational" strikes my what i would like to believe to be "rational" mind as an art way of saying "irrational". "irrational" has been beat to death, its not 1939 right now and your in some surrealist movement in spain. It seems to me for some reason art never moved passed that into rationality to say that warhol soup cans or a guy throwing ketchup on toys is just fucking shit. The best education on art i've ever run across is i got in 1999 this documentary on Francis Bacon at the library , he's the star of it, he was still alive when it was made. Track that down, there is nothing more to say about art than what he says in that himself. bom
  7. I think it depends, dubstep seems pretty hit or miss to me, the genre seems pretty wide right now. I wish they had a webcast of the this dude on the college radio here, he spins fucking sick stuff. mostly sounds like hiphop beats with really nice dub melodies over the top and some skank. I noticed more idm/breakcore guys getting into it, there stuff doesn't really do it for me. its the hiphop influeced guys that are making the good stuff.
  8. no offense but i think trying to make some rational arguements about art really only has its place in an art school context. in reality its nonsense. something looks good, it sounds nice, food taste good or bad, i like it or i dont. i can write an essay on why i love indian food and give all these variables vs other food and why i think its superior, who cares though. my mom hates it, cant stand all the spices, some essay on it is just meaningless and would never change the fact that she just doesn't like indian food. i actually like Jackson Pollack, i hate marc rothko. i'm sure i can find a million art student dissertations on why both are genious and why both suck. its ultimately a drunk guy throwing paint on a canvs vs a guy drawing boxes. your eye likes it or it does not. if anything i think this bullshit is why i don't bother going to see any modern art openings anymore. its all nonsense, its all rational with some art student nonsense like this as opposed to just being pleasing or not. the last one i went to was at the college here. gi joe action figures with ketchup on it. the artist was going on about all his intentions and all this stupidity but in reality it was just toys with ketchup on them. i'll pass.
  9. check out the old electribes used, super cheap, probly can get one for less than a 100 bucks USD. Korg ES-1 is just a sampler, the other one is more a synth drum machine. The ES is probly what you want, it would basically be like a hardware redrum. get the smart media card for it and the reader, should be able to find it bundled used on ebay with an ES. tons of fun.
  10. comeon man, if anyone does spetrum analysis in a contest thats just in good fun like this they seriously need to get laid. if this is a concern though then do it in lame. lame takes raw audio, compresses it, then plays its back uncompressed without loss of data. if anyone wants to take the pepsi challenge they can hear raw audio being uncompressed then lets put some money on the line with paypal, but it would have to be like 50 files to get a good statistical sample and not just luck. i'm no hippy. i make my living trading stock index futures, love to play poker, love any game that in involves real money and probility theory combined with human uncertainty. this is a joke odds wise, i'll bet against anyone who wants to take the lame vs wav challenge.
  11. in that article i posted up top, it said something interesting in that some people who actually have hearing problems in one ear probly have a better chance of hearing the difference with mp3 because of the way that breaks down the psychoacousic model. i think a test would be fun, get as many people to do it as want to. i would be up for it and dont expect to hear the difference. a minute would be some big files. i think it would be far better to have 20 - 10 second clips, 10 guesses on what one is what. i would rip them but there is no way i could resist making them all actually wav or all mp3 and fuck with everyone
  12. naa..thats my old account, this is new improved 2.0 version of me...or i'm dumbass, cant remember my password and dont have that email address anymore.....
  13. listening test with mp3 vs cd, $18k setup with a bunch of super audiophiles listening http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofive...php/t27324.html some people picked the 128k mp3 to sound better at some points, hahah. if anyone thinks they can hear the difference between flac vs wav they are an idiot and dont understand what flac is.
  14. sorry this 320 mp3 vs wave at a party is nonsense. there is no way you can tell the difference at a party. maybe at home with some good higher end studio monitors you might be able to tell the difference. at a party though the system itself is going to color the sound a 1000 times more than mp3 vs wav. i bet if you took 2 laptop djs, told everyone one guy was spinning wavs, one guy was spinning mp3s but in reality you switched them, everyone would say the wavs sound like shit and they can hear how much clearer the mp3s were....
  15. hehe, i caught them live around 1999 too. sickest music ive ever heard come out of speakers, especially when they got into the pyschopod tracks. i remember it was in some gym or some weird thing like that with about 40 people there. the owner was flipping out because of how loud it was that the cops would show up and koxbox just kept telling the sound guy to turn it up louder and louder. every track they would point to the sound guy then stick their thumbs up in the air "louder louder". fucking awesome
  16. yea i havent had one now for about 4 years. i had just really started to get into programming it when i sold it too. you can get some really sick lead sounds by stacking 3 or 4 layers of the weird waveforms, filter on each layer then link the filters to the mod wheel. something that would rock that i never bothered to try would be to sample a nice FM patch of a virus or nord without the filters on, then build a keymap for the k and use its filters.
  17. nice...i curse all current labels in the name of chaos......... "CHAOS NEVER DIED. Primordial uncarved block, sole worshipful monster, inert & spontaneous, more ultraviolet than any mythology (like the shadows before Babylon), the original undifferentiated oneness-of-being still radiates serene as the black pennants of Assassins, random & perpetually intoxicated. Chaos comes before all principles of order & entropy, it's neither a god nor a maggot, its idiotic desires encompass & define every possible choreography, all meaningless aethers & phlogistons: its masks are crystallizations of its own facelessness, like clouds. Everything in nature is perfectly real including consciousness, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Not only have the chains of the Law been broken, they never existed; demons never guarded the stars, the Empire never got started, Eros never grew a beard."
  18. i'm not sure its fair to compare this to headware. i'm not sure this wouldnt have been just as mindblowing as headware if you switch the release dates between the two. to me what stands out is the actual interesting sound design/synth sounds on this compared to pretty much every other album released these days. shitty vst synths have really ruined psytrance, this album is the nord modular right in your face with actual cool programming with it.
  19. damn, i hadnt looked in awhile but they are even cheaper now. k2000 keyboard went on ebay last week for 250 bucks. that is fucking stupid.
  20. i think its outdated as a sampler but if treated as a synth i dont see how it could get outdated just with how deep it is programming wise. the best part of it though is they are stupid dirt cheap used. keyboards seem to go for around $400 USD and the rack ive seen go for $300 on ebay.
  21. only a stupid hippy businessman blames the consumer for their failure. if i open a hamburger stand and people cook out on their home grill instead of coming to my stand its pretty absurd to blame the consumer. just close shop, you have no business being in business.
  22. if you really want to get close to simon's sounds your best bet is to get a used k2000. most of simons sound is pretty much the filters/shapers of the k2000. k2000 has a very distinct filter sound and some different typs of filters, your not going to find them in software.
