"Riders on the Storm (Infected Mushroom Rmx)" – 4:29 Ever since Bp.Empire was released, Infected Mushroom has been subject to a fierce discussion whether they are sell out's or are reinventers of the genre. There is a sort of love or hate relationship to them, which is both their curse and benefit. One thing is for sure, and that is, that every album I.M release is a big evolution, good or bad, from the previous one. Even the skeptics did agree that Converting Vegetarians could be regarded as psytrance, and downtempo, but it was with this album the border between psy and mainstream really began to erode. And with the release of I'm The Supervisor the last skeptics still accepting I.M also jumped off the train. Then there were the people just taking Erez and Duvdev's music for what it was, music, or to express it in a more poetic way, art. I am on of them and has greatly enjoyed the releases following after C.V, but it is clear that the direction of those albums was towards a more mainstream appealing sound. If this was a conscious choice or just natural evolution is hard to say, but most probably it's a mix of both. I.M is obviously trying to reach out to a new audience, but they are still faithful to their older fans. More so on Legend Of The Black Shawarma than on Vicious Delicious. The tracks can be divided into two categories, psyrock/psypop and psytrance where tracks: 1,2,3,4,5,7 and 11 fits into the first one. The tracks 6,8,9 and 10 are tracks with no lyrics, fitting into the second one. I feel as it is important to say that the lyrics are not used in an ordinary way. They are more as a compliment integrated in the tracks, often synthesized, modified and twisted à la Infected recipe. Which is very prominent in Legend Of The Black Shawarma(T11). This is as I see it a great way for introducing listeners to pure electronica. Gently fading the border between voice and computer generated sounds. The album has a very smart planning where you are presented with more rock/psy oriented tracks in the beginning. This is especially obvious with Smashing The Opponent(T4), where known singer from Korn, Jonathan Davis makes his guest appearance. The track contains alot of the typical Korn atmosphere, perfectly mixed with I.M's magnificent production skills and unique sound. You are then, as a figure of speaking gently (since there is nothing gentle about most tracks) introduced to the non lyric, pure psytrance tracks. The old and reliable I.M formula is very present on this album. Change of tempo, twisted sounds, epic sensations, darker mystical excursions, and blissful uplifting panoramas are almost exclusively present on all the psy-oriented tracks. Never at any part does it ever get tedious or repetitive, this is and has always been Infected Mushrooms main strength. Always evolving, ever changing. There are moments, in the psytrance tracks, where Erez start working his magic, or Duvdev is performing a beautiful guitar piece, when all former doubt regarding this release is washed away, and I remember why I fell in love with I.M in the first place. The contrast between different parts of a track can be immense, and it's a universal truth that contrasts is what life is all about. The joy, playfulness, seriousness, melancholy, bliss, wizardry, geniosity and everything in between is still present from albums like Classical Mushroom and B.P.Empire, you just have to look for it. And elements from all previous albums are here to be found, for the attentive listener. Often I find myself being thrown back in time to former installments during my listening sessions. A touch of nostalgia is never wrong! My personal favorite is without doubt Slowly(T10). A flawlessly executed, pure psychedelic track. It has all the ingredients required, so even the most hard headed I.M skeptic can't have any argument against it whatsoever. If so, then it narrows down to just a simple matter of personal taste. I don't feel as it is a coincidence that Slowly has the penultimate position. It might be a hint, Erez and Duvdev are clearly showing they still got the vestige to make pure psychedelica. They just don't want to, or life put them in another direction. And maybe, just maybe, had people been a little bit more humble regarding criticism on I.M's endeavors following B.P.Empire. There might have been a few more non-lyric tracks on the album, in the same league as this particular one. Recommendation: In regards of what I think the album is trying to accomplish, converting a new generation of listeners to a more psy/electronic sound, showing of genius production skills, making more money for the duo, and satisfying older fans with a few tracks, it's perfect with a capital P. This is Infected Mushroom anno 2009, love it or hate it. Or as Erez and Duvdev might have put it, either you are with us, or against us. review by: Melancholyman Listen to samples and buy the album HERE
  2. Well, you have yellow hair .. :P No, but I asure you, I have tried to drink many many beers to grow my hair back out, no luck.

  3. First half was good, then just a typical hoollywood flick
  4. I think that this is a problem for many. Don't try to get old psy stuff, just listen to it as it is. I greatly enjoy listening to the tracks with lyrics, just beceause of the magnificent production, it's just a feast in terms of composing skills.
  5. Nice to hear! Well, you have a justified point. We can only hope some side project in the future will result in a pure "back-to-the-roots" album. Then I guess you're not a fan of Xenomorph either? Yo fools! My review is nearing completion, but I am waiting to see if I can review it for Isratrance (since I want the album for free lol), other than that it's turning out good, and I am looking forward to read comments and have a mature discussion about my statements in the review! Cheers!
  6. My review is going to POWN! hehehe This album is more than meets the eye, it's made to convert a population non psy-listeners, and it will succeed inevitably.
  7. That one is great, but soooo short! Global Communication - 76:14 Bluetech - The Divine Invasion Omnimotion - Dream Wide Awake

  10. Master Margeritha - Hippies With Gadgets ( Peak , May. 2009 ) Tracklisting: 1. Deepchandi 120bpm 11:34 2. Orange 62bpm 6:33 3. Koto 92bpm 4:40 4. Binghi Dub 135bpm 5:43 5. Antaris 108bpm 10:17 6. La Mela 85bpm 6:11 7. Zwi Musik 70bpm 4:51 8. Super Dry 60bpm 5:37 9. La Sublime 6:22 10. Opus 5 64bpm 5:11 11. For Aldo 120bpm 9:13 Review: Midsummer's eve, the night is thick with moisture. The celebrations are mostly over, the rain washed them away. I'm outside to record a nightingale, a bird that produces beautiful melodies with its song, traveling from Africa to the northern hemispheres. I return to my garden shed, put myself into bed, take on my headphones and push play. To my surprise I am now in the jungle, rain is gently wrapping down on the forest, I hear exotic birds sing and I can vaguely make out a nightingale. What a peculiar coincidence. Tribal drums kick in and I now realize that it is music that I am about to listen to. This is my first impression and what sets the mood for Master Margherita’s Hippies with gadgets. I am taken from the rain forests to the subtle guitar strings of the Japanese Koto (T3) ending up in pure blissful electronica with La Sublime (T9) and For Aldo (T11) . Many artists fail in mixing different styles and genres but MM has managed to do this in a good way. Mostly it doesn't feel strange or inappropriate when the music crosses from more ethnic dub sound (like in T4) to more spacey and electronic. It is done in a very fluid way. Antaris (T5) is a wonderful track, slow and highly meditative, with a strong Eastern feel to it. At this point the album has brought me to a very nice mood but when La Mela (T6) hits, I feel disoriented and it disrupted my listening experience. This is a flaw that is easy to oversee though, since the intro, first half, second half and ending of the album are great. Fortunately I am quickly recovered and back on track with Zwi Musik (T7). Before moving along towards the finale, Super Dry (T8) is a catchy and quite amusing track that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still maintains a sense of mysticism and earnest. The album regains its pacing and direction and sweeps me in completely yet again. Now there are no more surprises. Just a mystical journey through downtempo remains. Then it finishes as it started, back to the forest, to nature. It took me in, carried me away, put me back and vanished, leaving the sensation of a psychedelic moment. The album has a great mix of organic, electro and ethnic sounds. It's very slow overall, so it is great if you feel the need to relax and put yourself into a meditative mood after a hard days' work. Also throughout the whole album there are great moments, mark of great ambient music. Truly there is vast potential waiting underneath. Hopefully we will experience this to its full extent on the next album. And to me Moreno really captured something in La Sublime(T9), and I sincerely hope he will continue elaborating on this type of sound. I come to think about the title Hippies with Gadgets. Because as far as I have understood the hippies were all about the worship of nature and the return to it, and this is just the feeling I got from the album. We (should I say it?) are no longer dysfunctional kids and junkies hanging on the beach, having sex orgies in the forest. The new generation of hippies has evolved and they are now artists, music producers, and just common people living everyday life. Respectable human beings as regarded from society, we are simply, hippies with gadgets. Recomendation: A very well crafted, ambient travel through many of the different genres residing in downtempo electroacoustic music. Master Margeritha manages to weave together all these different styles making it a very unique album. Sure, many has produced music in these genres before and done it equally good. But none has managed to put together an album with all of them in, creating a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. This album is damn good, without doubt in the top tier of downtempo releases. Listen to samples and buy the Cd here!!! This review was originally written for Isratrance

  13. Label: Cosmicleaf Records Catalog#: CLCD015 Format: CD, Album Country:Greece Released:Jun 2009 Genre: Electronic Style: Dub, Downtempo, Ambient Credits: Mastered By - Cydelix Mixed By - Dbatistatos* (tracks: 1 to 8, 10) Performer - Dimitris Batistatos* Written-By, Producer - Dimitris Batistatos* (tracks: 1 to 8) Tracklisting: 1 Dbatistatos* Under Pressure (5:30) 2 Dbatistatos* Weeper On The Shore (5:18) 3 Dbatistatos* Night Diving (5:06) 4 Dbatistatos* Just The Sea (6:07) 5 Dbatistatos* When The Clouds Come (4:52) 6 Dbatistatos* Diving (6:01) 7 Dbatistatos* Beyond The Ocean (5:38) 8 Dbatistatos* Underwater Dub (Letter To Egypt) (5:36) 9 Dbatistatos* Driving (Cydelix Remix) (4:21) 10 Red Eye Express Vin Del Mar (Dbatistatos Remix) (5:48) 11 D. Batistatos Hoover (Zero Cult Remix) (6:30) Cosmicleaf records, to me known for their not so conspicuous cover arts and mediocre output of music. Having the only to me really interesting act Zero Cult. But being spoiled with so much great psybient, never really gotten into their albums in the deepest sense. So it was a bit of a surprise to me when I listened to the samples for Dimitris Batistatos album, Weeper On The Shore. They instantly caught my attention and I never hesitated even for a blink of a second to lay my hands on his release for a review. First of all it should be clear to everyone that this is not a cohesive ambient excursion. This is more to the lounge side of things. So it is not really psychedelic music in that sense, but it does rest on the border between the two. This is just 8 tracks (not counting the three remixes) each standing on their own, varying in style and genre. Relaxing and soothing, never requiring any direct effort to enjoy. The downside being the lack of psychedelic soundscapes. But since the album never really tries to be psychedelic, but clearly stating it's intention this isn't really a downside. Only if you were expecting something other that what it is. Starting off with a light and happy loungish track Under Pressure(T1), which ironically takes away any pressure you might have had. The title track Weeper on the shore(T2) is a more grasping expreience, with amazing swirling flute tunes accompanied by tambourines only to be abrupted by adorable piano melodies. It doesen't make me weep but it sure sets me in a humble state. Just the sea(T4) does manage to captivate the essence of floating around i endless waters, with it's astonishing female voice samples, flowing guitar strings and fairytale like array of tones. When the clouds come(T5) is in fact a quite psychedelic track, leaning towards the melancholic side of experience with beautiful haunting piano strings, and modestly intricate but satisfying arrangement of sounds. If you have heard Anahata – The unmade sound, you will feel at home with this track. The transition towards brighter dwellings is stated by Diving(T6), still being to the heavy-hearted side of things, but holding a higher tempo so it gets you're blood flowing a little bit faster. And the flutes seems to push out that last drop of sadness, where at the other end joy resides. Still modestly climbing towards brighter places with Beyond the ocean(T7), but with the echoes of vapors still lingering in the wake. Underwater Dub(T8), can be regarded as the last track of the album. It's a nice dubby track with a hint of jazz and southern american atmoshpere. A quick word about the remixes: The first remix is Driving(Cydelix remix)(T9), a track than trespasses on mainstream territory. There's a mix of pop, lounge and electronica. Surprisingly I don't feel reluctant to this track, the album manages to bring me to such a tolerant mood that I just sit back and enjoy. Hoover(T11), is the best remix and one of the best track on the album. Not surprisingly it is remixed by Zero Cult, who has infused it with their unique mystical sound. Altough the album consists of separate tracks there is still a fluidity imbued between them. And even though it's not a cohesive jorney there seems to be a governing idea of being light and happy in mood at first, entering a more contemplative state and then ending in a more cheerful way. There's alot of acoustic elements througouhgt, flutes, tambourines, guitars, pianos and more. It's nice and gives the album a sense of realism. Recommendation: This is great music for introducing you're friends to a new genre. It suits for a nice calm dinner a warm summers day by the sea, on the beach, when cruising around in you're car or riding a bus. It is music that couldn't possibly offend anyone. I can only thank Cosmicleaf and Dimitri for putting out a very appealing album. Don't miss out! This is the unedited review originally written for Isratrance
